ATLANTA -- Mr. Hoey Shanks, 76, of 106 Wellington St., died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Springfield Baptist Church, Thomson, with the Rev. F.D. Favors officiating. Burial will be in Shanks cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Thomson.

Mr. Shanks was a native of McDuffie County.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Shanks; a brother, Arthur B. Shanks, Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Ludell Washington, Thomson; and one grandchild.

Friends may call at the residence of Ludell Washington, 200 Viola Avery St., Thomson, or after 9 a.m. Monday at the church.

Dawson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Neva Sprawls

Retired registered nurse

WILLISTON, S.C. -- Mrs. Neva Mathis Sprawls, 90, of East Main Street, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Folk Funeral Home with the Revs. Jimmy Hanf and Floyd Dukes officiating. Burial will be in Williston cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Sprawls, a native of Burke County, was a graduate of Margaret Wright Nursing School, Augusta, and had retired as a registered nurse. She was a member of Williston First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Perry Sprawls Jr., Atlanta, and Dick Sprawls, Williston; a daughter, Emily S. Rountree, Lexington; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Williston Public Library, Springfield Street, Williston, SC 29853.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Peter Stathakis

Retired business owner

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Mr. Peter Tom ``Pete" Stathakis, 81, of 507 Trakas Ave., died Friday, May 8, 1998, at Self Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Blyth Funeral Home with the Revs. Gregory Rogers and Jim Karagas officiating. Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Stathakis, a native of Karyia, Greece, had retired as owner and operator of The Loan Shop. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the Office of Strategic Services, and retired with the rank of master sergeant. He was a member of American Legion Post 20, Disabled American Veterans and Travelers Protective Association.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Blanos Stathakis; a son, Thomas P. Stathakis, Greenwood; a brother, Mike T. Stathakis, Greenville; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Peter Stathakis II, Perry Kerhoulas, Frank Stathakis, Brooks Champlain, Larry Moore, George Stathakis, Charles Kumpuris and Billy Stathakis.

Memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 953 Telfair St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Mrs. Rene Tewkesbury

AIKEN -- Mrs. Rene Ann Young McNair Tewkesbury, 68, of 134 Kimberly Drive, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church of Aiken with Drs. William R. Johnston and Jerri Perkins officiating. Private burial will be in Bethany cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Tewkesbury, a native of Hollywood, Fla., had lived in Aiken 35 years. She was a former employee of J.B. White Stores and of East Aiken Elementary School. She was a member of Circle No. 4 and volunteered for the Aiken Regional Medical Centers hospital auxiliary.

Her family said she dedicated herself to caring for her family and friends for most of her adult life.

Survivors include three sons, Craig McNair Jr., Greensboro, N.C., Wallace Duncan McNair, Greenville, and Paul Tewkesbury III, New Orleans; three daughters, Chayne McNair Johnson, Cary, N.C., Ruth McNair Bradford, Columbia, and Rene Ann Tewkesbury, Aiken; four stepdaughters, Helen Tewkesbury Crenshaw, Aiken, Nancy Tewkesbury Graves, Surfside Beach, Paulette Tewkesbury Brown, North Augusta, and Mary Sue Tewkesbury Melner, Brentwood, Tenn.; two brothers, John Marshall Young Jr., Donna, Texas, and Rodney William Young, Winter Park, Fla.; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Young, James Malcolm McNair Jr., Scott Craig McNair, Edward Palmer Tewkesbury, Benjamin Murray Talbert, Allen Wayne Young, Robert Blair McNair, Philip Kitchings McNair III, Allen Matthew Tewkesbury and Robert Talbert.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 111 Pendleton St., Aiken, SC 29801, or to Hitchcock Hospice, 721 Richland Ave. W., Aiken, SC 29801.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra W. White; a daughter, Dana Lynn White, Harriman, Tenn.; a stepson, Darrel Poole, Mathews, Ga.; his mother, Edith M. Sleister, North Augusta; his father, Dewey White, Aiken; and a sister, Annette Mathis, North Augusta.

Mrs. Hazel Wolf

Mrs. Wolf, a native of Athens, Ga., had lived in Atlanta since 1968, and was a former Aiken resident. She had retired from Neiman Marcus Department Store in Atlanta in 1987 after 15 years of service. She was Jewish.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Wolf, Atlanta; a sister, Evelyn Surasky Caplan, Atlanta; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stephen Surasky, Joel Wolf, Roger Wolf, Aaron Surasky, Monty Warner, Michael Capilouto, Jared Surasky and David Bruckner.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Bonnett Aaron; a daughter, Camie Aaron, Portal; his stepfather, Moultree Graham, Yulee, Fla.; and a stepmother, Mentoria Aaron, Savannah.

Her family said she was a devoted wife, mother and daughter.

Survivors include her husband, Jay Glenn Hart; a daughter, Heather Michelle Hart, Edgefield; her parents, Fred Steinke and Ida May Steinke, Wadsworth, Ill.; a brother, Larry Wayne Steinke, Milton, Wis.; and a sister, Cynthia Davis, Littleton, Colo.
