Mrs. Berit Rose

Mrs. Berit O. Rose, 59, of 1955 Neptune Drive, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Mrs. Rose, a native of Oslo, Norway, was a homemaker and a Lutheran.

Survivors include her husband, Donald R. Rose; one son, Dean Fenelli, Fairfield, Calif.; and one daughter, Elizabeth Yvsjoen, Oslo.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Baxley

J & B Vending owner

Mr. James F. Baxley, 57, of 2062 Bridgewater Drive, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity On-The-Hill United Methodist Church with the Revs. David Jones, Brian Germano and Greg Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Baxley, a native of Maron County, was the owner and operator of J & B Vending and a member of Trinity On-The-Hill United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the adult couples and singles Trinity Church Council. He was a volunteer at University Hospital and a member of Georgia-Lina Emmaus Community.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Baxley; three daughters, Carol B. Couch, Birmingham, Ala., Denise B. Smith, Atlanta, and Jeannine B. Furlong, Augusta; two sisters, Bobbie B. Williamson, Charleston, S.C., and Helen B. Shelley, Galivants Ferry, S.C.; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Lamke, James Drew, Ricky Derby, Keith Peeples, Vic Howdieshell, Donald O. Smith, Michael Watts and Larry Hendrix.

Memorials may be made to Trinity On-The-Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Ave., Augusta, GA 30904; or St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Poteet Funeral Home, Wheeler Road.

Mr. Hubert Brown

Retired school bus driver

MITCHELL, Ga. -- Mr. Hubert Brown, 73, of 4605 Baker Road, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Fellowship Baptist Church, Warrenton, with the Rev. Augustus Lockhart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Brown, a native of Warren County, was a retired school bus driver and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacon board.

The family said he lived to help others.

Survivors include his wife, Hattie M. Brown; one son, Allen Brown, Mitchell; six daughters, Martha Bass and Myrtice Sullivan, both of Augusta, Lois Boatwright and Nina Brown, both of Mitchell, Earnestine McNair, Columbus, and Ruthie Swann, Sparta; one sister, Odessa Farley, Mitchell; and 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Youth Education Fund of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Friends may call at the residence or at Dawson's Mortuary, Warrenton.

Mrs. Ruth Erskine

Shirtmaster retiree

BELTON, S.C. -- Mrs. Ruth Marchbanks Erskine, 94, of 1600 Trail Road, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at National Health Care, Anderson.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Neals Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Randy Creamer and Marshall Tribble officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Erskine, a native of Greenville, was retired from Shirtmaster and was a member of Neals Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member of the adult ladies Sunday school class.

Survivors include one son, Rufus Erskine, Belton; three daughters, Sara Wilson and Laura Ann Kay, both of Belton, and Edith Grant, Blackville; one sister, Agnes M. Watson, Travelers Rest; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Neals Creek Baptist Church, 3204 Amity Road Extension, Anderson, SC 29621.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Sullivan-King Funeral Home, Anderson.

Mr. James Felder

Traffic router

Mr. James C. Felder, 71, of 3172 Floyd Drive, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, with the Rev. Timothy Clontz officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mr. Felder, a native of Detroit, was a traffic router with Thermal Ceramics and was a member of Open Door Baptist Church. He had been a Marine Corps reservist. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and had attended the University of Georgia, Clemson University, Augusta College and Augusta Technical School.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley S. Felder; three sons, Richard Felder, Augusta, Wayne Felder, Rock Hill, S.C., and James Wren, Brunswick, Ga.; one daughter, Yvonne Clement, Augusta; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mable Gay

J.P. Stevens Co. retiree

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Mable Barlow Gay, 73, died Wednesday, April 22, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Joiner-Shepard Funeral Home with the Revs. Ray Jenkins and Bob Banzon officiating. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Gay, a native of Telfair County, was retired from J.P. Stevens Co. She had worked at Cooper Wiss and was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Portal.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Eugene Gay; one son, Robert Eugene Gay Jr., Statesboro; one daughter, Lynelle Rushing, Statesboro; one brother, Allen ``Pete" Barlow, Statesboro; one sister, Doris Lee, Statesboro; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Raybon Cannon, Ronnie Cannon, Ray Cannon, Billy Barlow, Pat Barlow and Jerry Barlow.

Mr. James Hoover

Prudential Securities retiree

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Mr. James O. Hoover, 79, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Memorial Mausoleum of Parkhill cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Dupree officiating.

Mr. Hoover, a native of Augusta, was retired as a registered representative with Prudential Securities. He was a 1934 graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and was a 1938 graduate of the University of Georgia. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served as a captain and served in the 36th Infantry Division. He received the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Ribbon. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman and treasurer of the Official Board and taught the young adult Sunday school class. He served as president of the Columbus Boys Club, YMCA, Columbus Speech School, Hoover Commission, South Columbus Boys Club, Columbus Symphony Guild and United Givers. He served on various other community organizations and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award as Young Man of the Year in 1953 and the Boys Club of American Medallion.

Survivors include two brothers, Charles Hoover, Atlanta, and Jack S. Hoover, Augusta; and one sister, Anne Gulley, Nashville, Tenn.

Memorials may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Columbus Boys Club, 1309 29th St., Columbus, GA.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home.

Mr. Jeffery Jones

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Mr. Jeffery Jones, 31, died Saturday, April 18, 1998.

The funeral will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Runs Missionary Baptist Church, Beech Island, with the Rev. C.W. Phinizy officiating. Burial will be in St. Catherine Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Jackson.

Mr. Jones, a native of Jamaica, N.Y., was a 1984 graduate of Silver Bluff High School, where he played varsity basketball. He received a scholarship from Limestone College, where he was a member of the Saints Basketball Team and received an award for his performance at the 1987 International Basketball Tournament, Cork, Ireland. He was a member of Runs Baptist Church and had worked at Footlocker at the Aiken Mall.

Survivors include one son, Darius Malik Isan Jones, Hephzibah; one daughter, Shakemia Jones, Gaffney; his father, Cornelius Bettis, St. Augustine, Fla.; his mother, Easter M. Jones, Jamaica; one brother, Larry L. Jones, North Augusta; and his maternal grandmother, Millie Jones, North Augusta.

Pallbearers will be Charles Cummings, Lionel Green, Randy Gaines, Tony Douse, James Scott Jr., Dennis Smith, Danny Neals and Jimmy Jones.

Friends may call at the residence of Millie Jones, 4019 Carver St., North Augusta, or at 1 p.m. today at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home and from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. L.J. Landers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Mr. L.J. Sanders, 79, died Friday, April 17, 1998.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harrison Spring Baptist Church, Harrison, Ga., with the Rev. Anthony Pittman officiating. Burial will be in Harrison cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Landers was a native of Washington County, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Landers; two sons, Herbert Landers and Bobby Landers, both of Fort Lauderdale; three daughters, Martha Taylor, Sharon Landers and Kathleen Gordon, all of Fort Lauderdale; one brother, M.H. Landers, Harrison; two sisters, Mary Bynes and Christine Dorsey, both of Fort Lauderdale; and 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Sydelle Miller

Civil service retiree

SALUDA, S.C. -- Mrs. Sydelle E. Miller, 76, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Saluda Nursing Home.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Bethany United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Miller, a native of Saluda County, was retired from the civil service, where she worked for the Pentagon, Washington. She was a graduate of Hollywood High School and Newberry College and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her mother, Mary Naoni Duffie Miller, Saluda.

Memorials may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church, Route 1, Box 460, Saluda, SC 29138; or to Saluda Nursing Center, South Carolina Highway 121 N., Saluda, SC 29138.
