GROVETOWN -- Joseph R. Espiritu, 15, of 600 C. Chamblin Road, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Starling Funeral Home, Harlem, with the Rev. Don Widner officiating.

Joseph, a native of Richmond County, was a student at Harlem High School and a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara J. Espiritu, Grovetown; three brothers, Randall E. Espiritu, Appling, Paul J. Espiritu, Augusta, and Herbert L. Espiritu, Dearing; and one sister, Tanioa M. Espiritu, Grovetown.

Friends may call at the residence.

Ms. Lena Fleming

Retired lunchroom worker

SAVANNAH -- Ms. Lena Fleming, 75, of 3340 Florence St., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Heritage Inn Nursing Home, Sandersville.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. S.R. Daniels officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Fleming, a native of Washington County, had retired from the Chatham County Board of Education as a lunchroom worker. She was a member of Electra Chapter No. 1, Order of the Eastern Star, and of St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Juanita F. Harris, Tennille; a brother, Walter Jones, Miami; five sisters, Ola Mae Robinson, Bartow, Lucille Humphrey, Belle Glade, Fla., Johnnie E. Roberts, Claxton, Susie Odum, Philadelphia, and Mattie Armstrong, Sandersville; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service at Delany Social Hall.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rachael Gossip

Homemaker

Mrs. Rachael Elaine Gossip, 47, of 3620 Abbey Road, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mark United Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Fincher officiating. Burial will be in Walker Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gossip, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker. She had retired from Travelers Inc. Co. She was a 1969 graduate and class secretary of T.W. Josey High School. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Gossip III; three daughters, Saudia S. Williams, Francina N. Gossip and Angelia E. Gossip, all of Augusta; her parents, Raymond and Alice Williams, Augusta; two brothers, Kenneth C. Williams, Charleston, S.C. and Clarence M. Williams, Chesapeake, Va.; three sisters, Robbiesteene Robinson, Atlanta, Kathy A. Chapman, Washington, and Pamela D. Queen, Odenton, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Presswood, Dexter Hill, Sylvester Justice, James Mickey, Derrick Ansley, Sylvester Justice and Clarence Gardenhire.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the T.W. Josey High School Class of 1969.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends at 2 p.m. today at C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gale Hartley

Registered nurse

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Mrs. Gale M. Hartley died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at her residence.

Funeral services will be private.

Mrs. Hartley, a native of Augusta, was a registered nurse.

Survivors include three daughters, Marcia Salmons and Micki Haubold, both of Virginia Beach, and Connie Weaver, Midlothian; her mother, Florie J. Maddox, Augusta; one brother, Elbert Maddox, Augusta; and five grandchildren.

Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hazel Hunt

Insurance clerk

WASHINGTON, Ga. -- Mrs. Hazel Patterson Hunt, 63, of 1754 Thomson Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Rehoboth Baptist Church, Metasville Community, with the Rev. Herman Bradley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Hunt, a native of Wilkes County, was an insurance clerk at Wills Memorial Hospital. She was a member and Sunday school teacher at Rehoboth Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Don Robert Hunt; two sons, Donald T. Hunt, Gainesville, and Kevin L. Hunt, Elberton; two daughters, Lynne H. Oliver, Conyers, and Patti M. Hunt, Washington; a brother, Herbert Patterson, Washington; five sisters, Irene Swann and Elmyra Chafin, both of Washington, Lois Greene, Crawfordville, Louise Gaines, Elberton, and Lee Long, Dade City, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Austin Meadows III, George Lokey, Marlon Caldwell, Jimmy Callahan, Johnny Reed and Hammond Garrard.

Hopkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. LaDonna Gladden-Lamb

Therapist

Mrs. LaDonna Gladden-Lamb, 51, of 2928 Sussex Road, died Friday, March 6, 1998, in Aiken County.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Good Shepherd with the Revs. Daniel B. Brown and Robert D. Fain officiating. Burial will be held later in Beaufort National cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C.

Mrs. Gladden-Lamb, a native of Kernersville, N.C., was a therapist, family counselor, free-lance motivational facilitator and an Augusta State University professor. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina-Aiken and Augusta College.

She was a member of the Augusta Players and the Augusta Choral Society. She served on the Hope House board of directors and taught in the Richmond County Mentors Program at Joseph Lamar Elementary School. She was a team captain at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church soup kitchen and was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd.

Survivors include her husband, Dick Lamb; two sons, Russell Gladden, Savannah, and Pete Lamb, Augusta; two daughters, Ellen Gladden, Athens, Ga., and Patti Ann Smith, Augusta; her parents, Chuck and Frances Hanner, Kernersville; one brother, Mark Hanner, Kernersville; one sister, Cindy Worrell, Kernersville; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hope House, 2542 Milledgeville Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Telfair Street.

Mr. Roosevelt Seawright

Brickmason

AIKEN -- Mr. Roosevelt Seawright, 64, of 460 Monetta St., died Thursday, March 5, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Montmorenci Baptist Church, Montmorenci, with the Rev. Leander Jones officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley.

Mr. Seawright, a native of Orangeburg County, was a brickmason. He was a member of Oakey Spring Baptist Church, Salley, and a member of the Welcome Travelers Baptist Church Gospel Choir.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Seawright; two sons, Rondia Seawright and Reginald Seawright, both of Greenville; three daughters, Sharon Childs and Renee' Seawright, both of Aiken, and Patricia Adams, Graniteville; one brother, Henry Seawright, Aiken; two sisters, Mildred Patterson and Martha Minor, both of Aiken; and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends may call at the residence or after 1 p.m. today at G.L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary, Aiken.

Mrs. Lucille Thrash

Retired civil servant

Mrs. Lucille Thrash, 69, of 3154 Windy Hill Drive, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, with the Rev. Paul Volpitto officiating. Burial will be in Raymah Primitive Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Blackshear, Ga.

Mrs. Thrash, a native of Savannah, had retired from civil service at Fort Gordon.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Burke and Chuck Thrash, both of Augusta; two daughters, Jane Davies, Atlanta, and Beth Gilliland, Martinez; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lon Volner

Logger

HARTVILLE, Mo. -- Mr. Lon Harvey Volner, 86, died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral was Friday at Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Charles Stoker and John Snavely officiating. Burial was in Murr cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Mountain Grove.

Mr. Volner, a native of Cabool, worked in the timber industry as a logger and sawmill operator.

His family said he lived a good, full life. He loved the Lord and his family, and will be missed sadly by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife, Delcie Volner; eight sons, Roy Volner, Hubert Volner and Eddie Volner, all of Hartville, Bill Volner and Lynn Volner, both of Mountain View, Bob Volner, Harlem, Carl Volner, Springfield, Ore., and Jessie Volner, Mountain Grove; seven daughters, Patsy Stallsworth, Fay ``Dark" Parsons and Naomi Perkins, all of Mountain View, Reta Young, Hartshorn, Irene Stallsworth, Arroll, Judy Richmond, Doniphan, and Ruth Foster, Viola, Ark.; a brother, Jim Volner, Shenandoah, Iowa; five sisters, Cora Curtis and Annabelle White, both of Roseburg, Ore., Opal Carder, Springfield, Faye Ellis, Mountain Grove, and Louise Whitehead, Dale, Ind.; and 47 grandchildren, 18 stepgrandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and six great-stepgrandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jay Clark, Wayne Parsons, Roger Perkins, Clifford Stallsworth, Billy Volner and L.H. Young.

Mrs. Marjorie White

Sands Food Service retiree

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Marjorie Tucker White, 71, died Friday, March 6, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Joiner-Shepard Funeral Home with Dr. H. William Perry officiating. Burial will be in Eastside cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. White, a native of Bulloch County, was retired from Sands Food Service and was a member of Statesboro First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Sue Deal, Statesboro; three brothers, James Tucker, Port Wentworth, Charles Tucker, Statesboro, and Ted Tucker, San Francisco; two sisters, Eloise Brannen and Bernice Drake, both of Swainsboro; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be Donald Joiner, Donald White, Mike Brannen, Kenny Tucker, Tommy Cowart and Franklin Edenfield.
