Susan McCarter
Mrs. Susan McCarter of Locust Grove, Georgia died December 18, 2008. Susan was born
in Birmingham, Alabama on July 9, 1954. She attended public schools in Birmingham, Montreal, Canada, Pittsburgh, and received a B.A. Degree in Jour-nalism from Auburn University. She attended graduate school at Florida State University and majored in Mass Communications. Susan was athletic and competed in high school swimming, diving and synchronized swimming events as well as gymnastics. She recently participated and completed the Breast Cancer Three Day Walk. Susan was a professional photo-journalist and was employed at Turner Network Television, the Talladega Daily Home, and the Fulton County Daily Report. She also had many free-lance assignments around the state, such as wedding and high-school sporting events. She was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church and also a member of the Locust Grove Women’s Club. Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn DeShazo of Birmingham, Alabama and father-in-law, Charles McCarter of Locust Grove.
Survivors include her husband, Scott McCarter of Locust Grove and children, Dylan Scott McCarter and Laura Angelyn McCarter; father Mike DeShazo of Birmingham, Alabama; mother-in-law, Elsie McCarter of Locust Grove; sister, Becky Cree of Loganville; brother, Doug (Jane) and Rhiannon DeShazo of St Cloud, Florida; brother-in-law, Chuck (Misty) and Charlie( Kristin) and Doug McCarter of Locust Grove; sister-in-law, Karen Hearn, Luke and Jake Hearn of Locust Grove and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Locust Grove and Birmingham.
Service were held at the Locust Grove United Methodist Church on December 22. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Susan’s name to the Susan G. Faye Yates
Mrs. Faye Yates, age 69, of Locust Grove, Georgia died December 19, 2008. She was born
in Dallas to the late James Franklin and Josie Carolina Cole Pate. Mrs. Yates retired from Fort MacPherson and drove bus 98-7 for Henry County Schools.
Survivors include her husband, Pete Yates; daughter, Sheila and Cleve Mundy; sons, David and Nicki Yates, Joe and Tammy Yates, all of Locust Grove; ten grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Hunnings of Dallas, Dot Harper of Sharpsburg; brother, Geary Pate of Dalla; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held December 23 at Philippi Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Seabolt and Rev. Terrell Hopkins officiating. Interment Locust Grove Cemetery. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy N. Roca
Mrs. Dorothy N. Roca, age 73, of Jonesboro, Georgia died December 20, 2008. She was born
in Athens, Ohio to Raymond and Nellie Viola Rowan. She was a member of Oak Park Church and served as a Missionary to Cuba and several other mission fields. Dorothy dedicated herself to helping translate Spanish to English for women in the Atlanta area who needed prenatal and postnatal care. She also loved working in her garden and spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and sister Thelma Gaskins.
Survivors include her husband, Armando; daughter, M. Yvette (Antonio) Argueta of Stockbridge; sons: A. David (Sonya) Roca of Jonesboro, Jonathan D. (Roxann) Roca of Baltimore, Ohio, Andrew L. Roca of Jonesboro, Jeremy J. (Bethany) Roca of Stockbridge; brothers, David Rowan of McDonough, James Rowan of Griffin, John Rowan of Stockbridge, Philip Rowan of Lancaster, Ohio, Mark Rowan of Columbus, Ohio; sister, Susan Crawford of Locust Grove; and eight grandchildren.
Services were held December 29 at Oak Park Church with Pastor David Scott officiating. Interment Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Edmund E. Faria
Mr. Edmund E. Faria, age 94, died on December 22, 2008. Born in Bristol, Rhode Island and a long-time resident of Shalimar, Florida, Mr. Faria has lived in Georgia since 2001. Mr. Faria honorably served his country for over thirty years in the U.S. Army Air Corps/U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen D. Faria.
He is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Ramsden of Cape Coral, Florida, Mary Anne Counts of Peacedale, Rhode Island, Rita Nelson of Eatonton, and Julie Hooper of Winter Springs, Florida; sons, Richard Faria of Milton, Florida and Robert Faria of Stockbridge. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a sister, Claudia Mederios of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Services were held December 26 at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church in McDonough with burial in Bristol, Rhode Island. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Herbert Paul “Sonny” Williams
Mr. Herbert Paul “Sonny” Williams, age 70, of McDonough, Georgia died December 24, 2008. Mr. Williams was born
in Fulton County, the son of the late Laura Mildred Tanksley and Hugh Williams. Mr. Williams retired from Murphy & Orr as a cabinet maker. He enjoyed wood work, sports and was an avid UGA, Falcon and Braves Fan; he enjoyed cars, motorcycles and racing. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a son, Jody Lee Williams and a sister, Betty Thornton.
Survivors include his daughters, Joni Davis (Gary) of Griffin, and Lisa Williams (Jackie) of McDonough; grandsons, Cary Davis (Jenny) of Brooks, Justin Davis (Kim) of Barnesville and Bryan Davis (Emma) of Statesboro; sister, Bobbie Bradley of McDonough; great grandchildren, Dalton, Ethan, and Bradyn Davis; numerous nieces and nephews.

Frances Ferrell Hill
Mrs. Frances Ferrell Hill, age 96, of McDonough, Georgia died November 22, 2008. She was born
in LaGrange, Georgia to the late John Henry and Louetta Howell Ferrell. Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonough; enjoyed traveling, cooking, and working in her yard. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Hill and her husband, Robert L. Hill.
Survivors include her children, Ronald Hill, Richard Hill, and Janet Williams; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sister, Alice Verlander; brother, Jack Ferrell.
Services were held November 26 at Westview Cemetery

Frances Jones Craig
Mrs. Frances “Eadye” Jones Craig, age 75, of McDonough, Georgia died December 8, 2008. Eadye was born
in Cochran, the daughter of the late Frances Davis McNeal and Arthur Marvin Jones. Eadye was known for her love of life, outgoing personality, dancing, she was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bingo, and traveling by car. She was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church where she served in all areas of the church. Her husband, Pummie Dorman Craig; brother, Albert “Bubba” Jones; and sister, Sara Pitts preceded her in death.
Survivors include her children, Anthony “Tony” Craig and Eadye Christensen, both of McDonough; and the light of her life was her grandson, Anthony Mayo of McDonough; sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Butch Nixon of McDonough; sisters-in-law, Nancy Jones of Jackson and Myrna and Ernest Sowell of McDonough; brother-in-law, Gene and Betty Craig of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held December 11 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Boggs and Dr. Charles Thomas officiating. Interment Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
