SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Ms. Madge Bassett Waters, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Baptist Church with the Revs. Roan Powell and Sonny Mason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Ms. Waters, a native of Screven County, was a homemaker and a member of McDonald Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, W. Ronnie Waters, Sylvania; two daughters, Bernice W. Griner and Sarah W. Aaron, both of Sylvania; one sister, Vernon Bassett, Perkins; and 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Glynn Bassett, Wallace Taylor, Brantley Bragg, Thomas Hughes, Alton Hughes and Thomas C. Freeman.

Memorials may be made to McDonald Baptist Church, Social Hall Building Fund, c/o Dorothy Pierce, 207 Oak St., Sylvania, GA 30467; or Sylvania First Methodist Church, Organ Fund, P.O. Box 256, Sylvania, GA 30467.

Mrs. Betty Myers

ALLENDALE, S.C. -- Mrs. Betty Elmore Myers, 47, of 447 Robin St., died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, at Providence Hospital, Columbia.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Ervington Baptist Church with the Rev. W.H. Burison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Myers, a native of Allendale County, was a counselor with Bamberg Job Corp and a member of Ervington Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Myers; two sons, Carey Elmore, Augusta, and Bobby G. Seabrook, Atlanta; one daughter, Pamela Priester, Hampton, Va.; one stepson, Lavel Moore, Ulmer; one stepdaughter, Pamela Priester, Allendale; her father, Eugene Elmore, Allendale; two brothers, Eugene Elmore Jr. and George Elmore, both of Allendale; five sisters, Julia Jackson and Sarah Drayton, both of Allendale, Annie O'Callahan, Columbus, Ohio, Mary Ritter, Fairfax, and Geneva Elmore, Orangeburg; and nine grandchildren.

Cave Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Hammond

Homemaker

EDGEFIELD, S.C. -- Mrs. Mary Vina Hammond died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Red Hill Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Revs. Albert Atkinson and Jack Borders officiating.

Mrs. Hammond, a native of Edgefield County, was a homemaker and a member of Red Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Lee Hammond and F. Bettis Hammond, both of Edgefield; two daughters, Myrtle H. Anderson, Aiken, and June H. McKinnon, Columbia; and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Hammond, Harvey Holmes, John L. Smith, Hammond West, Obie Smith and Ted Hammond.

Memorials may be made to Red Hill Baptist Church, P.O. Box 17, Edgefield, SC 29824.

Mrs. Marie Jernigan

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Mrs. Marie N. Jernigan, 86, of 475 Randall Road, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sweetwater Baptist Church with the Rev. Eleazer Benenhaley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Jernigan, a native of Baxley, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church. She was a member of Consolation Baptist Church, Baxley, where she served as pianist and Sunday school teacher. She was a retired teacher.

Survivors include three sons, Charles Jernigan and Handy Jernigan, both of Brunswick, Ga., and Danny Jernigan, North Augusta; three daughters, Sarah Williams and Linda Gillespie, both of North Augusta, and Shelba Stone, Graham, Ga.; and 17 grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, five stepgreat-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rowland Funeral Home.

Mr. Howard Graybill

Navy retiree

Mr. Howard Everett Graybill, 82, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Columbia Augusta Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with the Revs. Grady Wigley and Coy Hinton officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Graybill, a native of Augusta, was a retired warrant officer with the Navy and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he was a member of Dialogue Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Temple and Friends of the Library. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Graybill; one son, Stephen L. Graybill, Lindley, Ohio; one brother, Veryl Graybill, Mobile, Ala.; one sister, Maxine Barney, Joplin, Mo.; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3185 Wheeler Road, Augusta, GA 30909; or Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 W. Loris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.

Mrs. Elsie Johnson

Mrs. Elsie Thigpen Johnson, 81, of 1113 Stanley Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Crawford Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. William L. Owens, K.C. Stevens and Robert C. Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Johnson, a native of Avera, Ga., was a homemaker and a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 25 years.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Johnson; one son, James R. Johnson, Augusta; one brother, Joe Thigpen, Avera; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Richard Morris, Clifford Richards, Herman Thacker, Hugh Lord, Rudolph Dixon, Raymond Blackmond, John Bailey and Harris Atkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ester Bible Class and Jack Brown Bible Class, both of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church.

Mr. Edward Hopkins Jr.

Mr. Edward Hopkins Jr., 70, of 2583 Quebec Court, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, at Salem Nursing and Rehab Center.

The funeral will be at noon Saturday at Cumming Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. H.B. Bady officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Hopkins, a native of Savannah, was the Kain Building Apartment manager and a member of Cumming Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hopkins; six sons, Walter Ragland, Charles Hopkins, David Hopkins, Oscar Hopkins and Lloyd Hopkins, all of Augusta, and Edwin Hopkins, Pittsburgh; one daughter, Patricia Hopkins, Pittsburgh; one sister, Matilla Williams, Augusta; and 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Cumming Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Mattie Nero

Mrs. Mattie Bell Ruffin Nero of 303 Gilbert Manor died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at her residence.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Mount Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Andrew Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Southview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Nero, a native of McBean, Ga., was a homemaker.

Survivors include six sons, Willie Nero, Thomas Nero, Grant Nero, George Nero, Butler Nero Jr. and Horace Nero; six daughters, Gracy Garcia, Mattie Nero, Hattie Bell Williams, Patricia Hollins, Georgia Mae Nero and Sandra Nero; two brothers, Clarence Ruffin and Alfreddie Ruffin; one sister, Ruby Jackson; and 51 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Buford Gordon, Ellis McDaniels, Wayne Webb, Josiah Jones, Leon Jones and Floyd Blount.

Mrs. Justine Doctor

VARNVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Justine Doctor, 74, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Hampton Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Isreal Boatwright officiating. Burial will be in Antioch cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Doctor, a native of Hampton County, was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Rayfus Doctor and Richard E. Doctor, both of Varnville, and David R. Doctor, Hampton, Va.; one daughter, Marilyn Langston, Varnville; and 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Virgie Manning

King Mill retiree

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Virgie Pauline Manning, 80, of 4483 Georgia Highway 56 North, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 1998, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

The funeral will be at noon today at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road, with the Revs. Cecil Rice and Earnest Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Manning, a native of Jefferson County, was retired from King Mill and was a member of McBean Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Freddie Manning, Augusta; two daughters, Annette Hall, Lincolnton, and Joyce Hornsby, Macon; three sisters, Irene Williford, North Augusta, Mary Caraway, Augusta, and Hattie Martin, Waynesboro; and 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Everette Caraway, Mark Williams, Frank Clements, Cecil McCollum, David Williams, Ryan Williams and Rufus Lee.
