Wasie Getts

Wasie Getts, age 82, of Jonesboro, Georgia, died Saturday, January 17, 2009. She was born in Itawamba, Mississippi to the late Jesse and Willie Jane Dulany Works. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Getts. Most important to Mrs. Getts was her faith, her family and her friends.

Mrs. Getts is survived by her daughters, Alice Emigh, McDonough, Linda Rothman, Lenior City, Tennessee; grandchildren, Bradford A. Emigh Jr., Jonesboro, Jonathan D. Rothman, Lemoore, California, Jan M. Shoopman, Greensburg, Kentucky, James P. Rothman, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Sedona A. Emigh, Jonesboro, Matthew D. Shoopman, Greensburg, Kentucky, Benjamin M. Shoopman, Greensburg, Kentucky; and sister, Buple Priest, Blue Springs, Mississippi.

Funeral services were held on January 24 at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gar-dens in Birmingham, Alabama with Rev. Philip Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.

Doris Claire Veasey Haney

Doris (Dot) Claire Veazey Haney, age 73, of Stockbridge, Georgia, died January 22, 2009. She was born in Berkley, California to the late Harold Albert and Eunice Smith Veazey. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Haney Nabers. Mrs. Haney was a member of Community Bible Church. She was a dedicated youth counselor and loved to write. But most important she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Haney is survived by her husband, George B. Haney, Stockbridge; daughters, Cynthia Haney, Stockbridge, Tina Robin-son, Greeley, Colorado, Linda Haney Nabers, Stockbridge; son, Fred Daniel Haney, Stockbridge; grandchildren, Erica Haney, Kyle Haney, Amanda Kemmerlin, Daniel Nabers, Jeffrey Nabers, John Nabers, Matthew Nabers, Jake Robinson, Zach Robinson; cousins, Dale Rasmussen and Ray Cordy Hyde.

Funeral services were held on January 26 at The Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Pastor Brooks

Everett officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.

Joyce V. Mick

Joyce V. Mick, 75, of Stockbridge, Georgia. passed away on January 23, 2009. Mrs. Mick was born in Dixon, Missouri. She was a member of Crossroads Christian Church. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband in 2001, Ray Mick, and her parents Frank and Gladys Perkins.

She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Doug and Sheryl Mick of Germantown, Tennessee; grandchildren and their spouses, Amy and Jeff Adkins of Stockbridge, Wesley and Misty Mick of McDonough; great grandchildren, Kendall Mick and Zoe Mick both of McDonough; sisters Shirley, Joann, Sharon and Frankie; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held January 25 at Ward’s Fairview Chapel with Minister Ken Davidson officiating. Entombment at Fairview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Ann Margaret Lively

Ann Margaret Lively, 33 , of Stockbridge, Georgia passed away January 23, 2009. Miss Lively was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Frances Trot-ter and Janet Smith, and a brother, Thomas Lively.

She is survived by her parents Frank and Vicky Lively; grandfather, Bill Trotter of Stock-bridge, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held January 26 at Ward’s Fairview Chapel with Rev. Jeff Daws officiating. Interment at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Summerville. Horis A. Ward Fairview Chapel.

Kathryn Odessa Atchison Burke

Kathryn Odessa Atchison Burke, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia, formerly of East Point, passed away January 23, 2009. Mrs. Burke was born in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Sophrenia Katherine O’Neal and James Jefferson Atchison. Mrs. Burke worked before her retirement for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department. She was a member of Jefferson Avenue Baptist Church in East Point, and she enjoyed living in the country on the lake, reading, driving and shopping and her beloved cats. Her husband, Corry Crowell Burke, and her siblings preceded her in death.

Survivors are her children, Patricia and Harvey Alsabrook of McDonough, Kathy and Donald Sims of Senatobia, Mississippi, and James and Jeannie Burke of Slidell, Alabama; grandchildren, Brian Rountree, Triscia Wilson, Cory Sims, James Sims, Donnie Sims and Nathan Burke; great grandchildren, Morgan and Katelyn Pepper; numerous nieces and nephews; Care Giver, Cynthia Lambert.

A memorial service for Mrs. Burke was held January 26 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Darwin Caldwell officiating. Those who wish may make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association. Haisten Funeral Home – McDonough - 770-914-8833.

Robert Willis Strickland, Jr.

Robert Willis Strickland, Jr., age 87, of Luella, Georgia, passed away January 25, 2009. Mr. Strickland was born in Henry County, the son of the late Banks Ferguson and Robert Willis Strickland, Sr. Mr. Strickland graduated from Abraham Bald-win Agricultural College in 1938, he served his country in the US Army during WWII, and he was a member of Luella Baptist Church and a member of the F. & A. M. Ringgold Masonic Lodge #90. Mr. Strickland enjoyed farming, raising his cows, and traveled all over the world.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Lucy Strickland of Luella; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Pat Strickland and Bob and Lynne Strickland of Luella; grandchildren, Tiffaney and Keith Shurbutt of Luella, Amanda and Michael Horton of Morton, Illinois, Thom and Carmen Strickland of Luella, Ashley and Shawna Scharlow of Luella and Brian Strickland of Luella; great grandchildren, Jay and Chad Shurbutt, and Reid and Elliana Horton.

A graveside service for Mr. Strickland was held January 27 at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough with Rev. Gaines Wise officiating. Haisten Funeral Home – McDonough 770-914-8833.

Harold Gene Pruitt

Harold Gene Pruitt, age 79, of Conley, Georgia went to be with his Lord Saturday, January 24, 2009. He was born in Thorsby, Alabama, to the late John Thomas and Maddie Langston Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt was a member of Peoples Baptist Church, a good and faithful servant. He was a Mason for 20 years. Mr. Pruitt served his country in the US Army, serving with the Second Armored Division in Germany and the 82nd Airborne unit in Japan. He was a friend to everyone he met, and he was a generous man with integrity who was always looking for an opportunity to help others. During his career he counted his customers as beloved family members and was always ready with a laugh and a hug.

Mr. Pruitt is survived by his wife, Gwen Pruitt; son, John Thomas (Elizabeth Ann) Pruitt; daughter, Penny Jean (Gary Lee) Adams, McDonough, son, Timothy Quinn Pruitt, Locust Grove; sister, Mary Alexander, Conyers; grandchildren, Shaun Thomas Pruitt, Michelle Satterfield, Brittany Pruitt, Elyse Adams, Levi Timothy Gene Pruitt; and great-grandchildren, Madison Satterfield, Caitlin Pruitt and Mekenna Satterfield.

Funeral services were held January 26 at The Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Di-rectors with Pastor David McCoy, nephew John Bentley Burnette and associate Pastor Ray Turner officiating. Interment at Sherwood Memorial Park. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors.
