Mr. Frank Corley

AIKEN -- Mr. Frank Wesley Corley, 87, of 1465 Dibble Road, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Revs. George Duffie, Kenneth L. Nelson and Eugene Mullikin officiating. Burial will be in Bethany cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Corley, a native of McCormick, was the retired owner and manager of Coward-Corley Seed Co. and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, where he was a past treasurer, past chairman of the board of trustees, a Sunday school teacher and a member of James Cannon Bible Class. He was a member and past president of Seedsmen's Association, Aiken's Lions Club, the Rotary Club and the Businessmen's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Flowers Corley; one daughter, Susan Corley Keenan, Decatur, Ga.; one brother, Robert A. Corley, Columbia; one sister Melba Corley Titus, Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St. N.W., Aiken, SC 29801.

The family will receive friends following the services at the church.

Shellhouse Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Margaret Cox

Homemaker

Ms. Margaret Moore Cox, 88, of 1028 Northwood Road, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Westover Memorial Park, with Dr. Timothy Owings and the Rev. Jake Malone officiating.

Ms. Cox, a native of Simpsonville, S.C., was a homemaker. She was a member of Dogwood Garden Club and First Baptist Church of Augusta, where she was a member of the Sunday school class and was superintendent of the primary department for 20 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Gay Cox Shaw, Augusta; a sister, Lula Moore Cothran, Piedmont, S.C.; and six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Department of Retirement Fund, 3500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909.

Friends may call at Poteet Funeral Home, Wheeler Road.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Andrew Croft

Retired detention officer

BARNWELL, S.C. -- Mr. Andrew Lee Croft, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in Barnwell County Memorial cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, with the Rev. Hilton Johnson, Kenneth Catoe and Chaplain Martha Edel officiating.

Mr. Croft, a native of Barnwell County, had retired as a detention officer from the Barnwell County Detention Center. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 17 and the American Legion. He was a former salesman for B&B Ford and Whittle Ford Co.

Survivors include two sons, Andy Croft, Anderson, and Mike Croft, Barnwell; a daughter, Sandra C. Loftis, Barnwell; his mother, Annie Lou S. Croft, Barnwell; two brothers, Duist Lee Croft and Rufus Gillie Croft, both of Barnwell; three sisters, Salley Carter and Adaree Morris, both of Barnwell, and Ann Jones, Sumter; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, Augusta, Ga.

Friends may call at the residence of his son, Mike Croft, 33 Laurel St.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Mole Funeral Home.

Mr. Joe Edwards

Mr. Joe Nathan Edwards, of 2804 Lumpkin Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Friendship Baptist Church, Atlantic Beach, Fla. Burial will be in Cosmo cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Jacksonville, Fla.

Mr. Edwards, a native of Metter, had been a cook at Picadilly Restaurant in Jacksonville and Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Edwards; two sons, Joe Pinkney, Jacksonville, and Michael Davis, Augusta; one daughter, Wilhelmina Loretta Edwards, Jacksonville; his father, Johnny Edwards, Metter; 11 brothers, Daniel Edwards and Rodney Edwards, both of Reidsville, Billy Ray Edwards, Ronnie Edwards, Mike Edwards, Johnnie Edwards Jr. and Connie Edwards, all of Metter, David Edwards and Robert Edwards, both of Maine, Jimmy Lee Rouse, Jacksonville, and Melvin Rouse, Kingsland; four stepbrothers, Levi Rouse, Henry Rouse, Ronnie Rouse and Leroy Rouse, all of Jacksonville; six sisters, Betty Rose Williams, Betty Mincey, LaTrinia Edwards, Naomi Rose, Brenda Kelly and Sadie Wilcher, all of Jacksonville; and two stepsisters, Annie Bell Rouse, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Evelyn Allen, Gainesville, Fla.

Williams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Virginia Evans

Teacher

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Virginia Wilkes Evans, 70, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at her residence.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Swainsboro City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Wills officiating.

Mrs. Evans, a native of Tatnall County, was a teacher in Jacksonville, Fla., and a graduate of Georgia Teachers College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she served on the administrative board and was a member of the United Methodist Women's Group. She was the first president of the Parent Teacher Organization at David Emanuel Academy, Stillmore.

Survivors include her husband, Henry R. ``Hank" Evans Sr.; two sons, Hank R. Evans Jr., Swainsboro, and Bruce Wilkes Evans, Dublin; one daughter, Mary Pate Gay, Swainsboro; one sister, Theda Williams, Savannah; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Paul McDaniel, Hayward Altman, Bill Sasser, Edd Patrick, Rosby McKenzie and Bonnie Ogburn.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Mattie Garbutt

Robins Air Force Base retiree

MACON -- Mrs. Mattie Mae Veal Garbutt, 96, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Macon Northside Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lang's Chapel, Sandersville, with the Rev. Charles Ricks officiating. Burial will be in Deepstep United Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Garbutt, a native of Washington County, had retired from Robins Air Force Base. She was a member of Deepstep United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Maryann Anderson, Macon; a sister, Louise Brooks, Deepstep; and five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Deepstep United Methodist Church.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Christine Gnann

Piano teacher

Mrs. Christine Greene Gnann, 90, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Henry Medical Center, Stockbridge.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Poteet Funeral Home, Greene Street, with the Revs. Robert Taylor, Carlisle Phillips and Dale Dean officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.

Mrs. Gnann, a native of Springfield, S.C., was a piano teacher and a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the choir and Sunday school and past president of United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., and was a former member of Augusta Music Club and the Augusta Arts Council.

Survivors include one daughter, Helen Gnann Byars, McDonough; one sister, Dorothy Greene Myers, Evans; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be William Arthur Greene Jr., Hugh Phillips Greene, Charles Meyers, Charles Watkins III, Richard Anchbacher, William Arthur Greene III, Phil Greene and Tommy Greene.

Memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 439 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901.

Friends may call at the residence of Nick Greene, 2508 Henry St., or the funeral home.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Miss Paula Hankerson

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Miss Paula Hankerson, 30, of 192 Shirbar Lane, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Jefferson Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Spring Bethel Baptist Church, Louisville, with the Rev. Thomas O. Lampkin officiating. Burial will be in Spring Bethel Benevolent Society cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Louisville.

Miss Hankerson, a native of Essex County, N.J., was a member of Green Grove Baptist Church and a 1985 graduate of Waynesboro High School. She was a member of Spring Bethel Benevolent Society.

Survivors include two daughters, Laquanda Drayton and Tiffany Hankerson, both of Waynesboro; her father, Paul Hankerson, Newark, N.J.; her mother, Ella Walker Hankerson, Waynesboro; four brothers, Charles Hankerson, Waynesboro, and Ronald Gordon, Donnell Gordon and Dwayne Gordon, all of Newark; and six sisters, Mary Walker, Louisville, Paulette Gordon, Silena Gordon and Roxanne Gordon, all of Newark, and Jacqueline Hankerson and LaTasha Hankerson, both of Waynesboro.

Pallbearers will be Willie Rollins, James Bostic, Richard Koonce, Phillip Evans, Willie Tolbert, Dexter Jones, Bernard Walker, Leon Walker, Isaiah Lockhart and Floyd Haynes.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Waynesboro High School class of 1985.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.today at Garrer Funeral Home, Louisville.

Mrs. Lettice Jones

WAYNESBORO, Ga. -- Mrs. Lettice Jones, of 529 W. Peace St., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Burke County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Thomas Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Lerone Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Bell Grove Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones, a native of Jenkins County, was a homemaker and a member of Bell Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir.

Survivors include two sons, Willie James Jones, New York, and Roosevelt Jones Jr., Loraine, Ohio; one daughter, Barbara Newkirk, Sylvester; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Lee Jenkins, Louis Sapp, Jerry Reed, Mathis Abrams, Johnny Walker and Dobbie Collins.

Friends may call at the residence of Hattie Outlaw, 707 W. 7th St.
