Mr. John Bowick

THOMSON -- Mr. John Edward Bowick, 82, of 1109 S.E. Davis Circle, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at McDuffie County Hospital.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Goshen Baptist Church, Lincoln County, with the Rev. Allen Danner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mr. Bowick, a native of Greenwood, S.C., was a retired farmer and a member of Loco Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Turner Bowick; two sons, James Thomas Bowick, Conyers, and Billy G. Bowick, Thomson; one daughter, Ann B. Williams, Greenville, S.C.; one sister, Susie Andrews, Lincolnton; and 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Lee Andrews, George Andrews, Gene Andrews, Ralph Andrews, Stephen Webb and George Dill.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hopkins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Edna Brenny

Homemaker

Mrs. Edna D. Brenny, 79, of 409 Pleasant Home Road, Martinez, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 1998, at Forrest Lake Health Care Facility.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, Ferndale, Mich.

Mrs. Brenny, a native of Grand Ledge, Mich., was a homemaker and a member of St. James Catholic Church.

The family said she was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Brenny, Fairhope, Ala., and Ron Adams, Houston; four daughters, Cheryl MacDonald, Augusta, Cynthia Herron, Rochester Hills, Mich., Norma Olsen, St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Ruth Cameron, Stowe, Vt.; two sisters, Lilian Smith and Delphine Dodge, both of Greeley, Colo.; and 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.

Thomas L. King Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Ms. Chelsea Burnett

Food service worker

TENNILLE, Ga. -- Ms. Chelsea Denise Burnett, 28, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Washington County.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Ms. Burnett, a native of Sandersville, was a food service worker and a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. She was a 1986 graduate of Washington County High School and completed the commercial truck driving program at Sandersville Regional Technical Institute.

Survivors include her parents, Willie and Betty Burnett, Tennille; one brother, Michael L. Burnett, Oconee; one sister, Terrineya Burnett, Tennille; and his grandparents, Ola Bell and Winston Wiggins, Tennille, and Versonary Burnett, Oconee.

L.M. Pierce Funeral Home, Sandersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Childs

Forklift operator

MILLEN, Ga. -- Mr. James Edward Childs, 57, of 326 Old Waynesboro Road, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at the Hospice Center, Brunswick.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. Berry Rogers officiating. Burial will be in New Millen cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Childs, a native of Jenkins County, was a forklift operator with Georgia-Pacific Gypsum Plant. He was a member of Salters Grove Baptist Church and Jordan Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Daryl Murphy and Andre Murphy, Waynesville; two daughters, Janice Childs and Deborah Childs, Brunswick; his mother, Minnie Childs, Millen; three brothers, Willie Lee Childs and Ellis Childs, both of Augusta, and Hosea Childs, Hephzibah; four sisters, Ruth Young and Eloise Jenkins, Newark, N.J., Brenda Childs, Augusta, and Sara Johnson, Millen; one adopted sister, Jewel Stancil, Newark; and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jimmie Billue, Jeffrey Cohen, Samuel Hall, William Odum, Willie Odum and Gary Walker.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Georgia-Pacific Gypsum Plant.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Dwight's Funeral Home.

Mr. Jesse Cronic

Farmer

UNION POINT, Ga. -- Mr. Jesse D. Cronic, 86, of 806 Stewart Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Columbia Dunwoody Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Alvin Taylor and Grady Mosley officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Cronic, a native of Hancock County, was retired from Union Manufacturing Co. as a knitting room fixer, and he was a farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was a member of Happy Hearts, the trustees board and the administrative board, and served as the official greeter.

Survivors include his wife, Jessie Huff Cronic; one son, William Cronic, Washington; three brothers, David H. Cronic and Royce N. Cronic, both of Union Point, and Oscar D. Cronic, Athens; and three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Ben Stewart, Bob Stewart, Mark Channell, T.A. Marks, Al Fontz and Mauricio Infante.

Honorary pallbearers will be Willing Workers Sunday School Class.

Friends may call at the residence.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Callaway Funeral Home.

Miss Gloria Doyle

AIKEN -- Miss Gloria Jean Doyle, 44, of 2913 Congaree Ave., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary with the Rev. G.L. Brightharp officiating.

Miss Doyle was a native of Aiken County.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph Priester, Norfolk, Va.; and four sisters, Laura Williams, Lillie Doyle, Melinda Doyle and Lelia Green.

Mr. Jack Gant

Retired truck driver

SYLVANIA, Ga. -- Mr. Jack Gant, 74, of Dell Street, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at his residence.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ernest Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Memorial cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.

Mr. Gant, a native of Metter, was a retired truck driver and a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Gant; four sons, Walter Bangs, Sylvania, John C. Bryant, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., John C. Kent, Atlanta, and John Fuzz, Worcester, Mass.; three daughters, Doris Adams, Atlanta, Carolyn Roberts, Sylvania, and Lillie Kent, Miami; one brother, Charlie Gant, Trenton, N.J.; and 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Booker T. Scott Memorial Chapel.

Pallbearers will be brothers-in-law.

Sylvania Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mamie Hood

Mrs. Mamie ``Peggy" Hood, 47, of 3190 Skinner Mill Road, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, at University Hospital.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Robin Spring Baptist Church, Sandersville, Ga., with Alvin Mason officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

Mrs. Hood, a native of Washington County, Ga., was a homemaker and a seamstress.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Jimmy Hood; two brothers, Willie Frank Pearson and Sam Irwin, both of Sandersville; three sisters, Joan Archer, Macon, Nettie Jackson, Atlanta, and Sandra Green, Sandersville. M.C. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. John Hooks

Road crew worker

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. John Willie Hooks, 85, of 310 Poplar Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.

The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Smith Grove Baptist Church, Tennille, with the Rev. Charlie Reese officiating. Burial will be in Harrison cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Harrison.

Mr. Hooks, a native of Washington County, was a road crew worker.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Hooks; two sons, James Wigfall, Baltimore, and William Wigfall, New York; seven daughters, Alberta Julius, Miami, Ruby Lee Jenkins, Elizabeth, N.J., Ruby McElwee, Baltimore, Louise Travet, Harrison, Mattie James and Mary Lee Asberry, both of Tennille, and Virginia Jackson, Chicago; three sisters, Bessie Mae Smith, Tennille, and Evelyn Wilcher and Carrie Mae Stoffer, both of Dover, Del.; and 55 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Asberry Jr., Tracy Asberry, Perry Hines, Rodney James, Robert Stanford and Gus Purvey.

M.C. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Claude Jennings

Business owner

LOS ANGELES -- Mr. Claude F. Jennings, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Culver City.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Dent's Funeral Home, Augusta, with the Rev. Allan McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Second Mount Moriah Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Harlem.

Mr. Jennings, a native of Augusta, was a business owner and a Navy veteran of World War II.

The family said he owned and operated several businesses. He was an avid reader and was deeply interested in interior decorating, antiques and landscaping.

Survivors include four sisters, Virginia J. Jennings and Norma J. Henry, both of Los Angeles, Allene A. Jennings, Harlem, and Frankie M. Mitchell, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Pallbearers will be members of his family and friends.
