AIKEN -- Mrs. Mary ``Frances" Allen, 61, of 1314 Two Notch Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with the Rev. Stephen Roehrs officiating. Burial will be in Southlawn cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.
Mrs. Allen, a native of Athens, Tenn., had lived in Aiken since 1955. She was a salesclerk at Woodruff Drug Store for 22 years. She was a member of Wild Outrageous Women and Bethlehem Lutheran Church and was a volunteer with Helping Hands.
Survivors include her husband, Sam Allen; two daughters, Jennifer Phillips, Cincinnati, and Angela Skinner, Aiken; a brother, Wallis Riddle, Athens; a sister, Charlsie Langley, Athens; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Allen, Bucky Blitchington, Vernon Holmes, Steve Langley and Mike Johnson.

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. -- Mr. J.D. Bell, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, at University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
The funeral was Sunday at Tennille Grove Baptist Church, Tennille. Burial was in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Bell, a native of Taylor County, had retired from Thiele Kaolin Co. in 1978 after 32 years of service. He was the former manager of the Tennille Bombers baseball team and a member of Jordan Station African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a son, Arcephus Bell, Baltimore; five brothers, Albert Bell, Moses Bell and Fedine Bell, all of Tennille, Charlie Bell, Warren, Ohio, and Sam Bell, Philadelphia; two sisters, Sallie Swint and Julia Dawson, both of Tennille; and six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

MILLEN, Ga. -- Mr. Kermit J. Chance, 88, of 2209 Highway 25 N., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Jenkins County Hospital.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Millen United Methodist Church with Charles Cravey and Walter Hall officiating. Burial will be in Millen cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.
Mr. Chance, a native of Burke County, had retired from Planters Electric Membership Cooperative as a manager and owned the Magnolia Motel of Millen. He was a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, a member of the Professional Society of Engineers and a former director of Ogeechee Valley Bank. He was a member of the Millen Rotary Club for 60 years.
He was a member of Millen United Methodist Church, where he was a past chairman of the Trustee Board and the Administrative Board, and was a member of the Clyde Harvard Sunday School Class.
His family said his caretakers were Sara and Lynford Cook, Margaret and Tim Johnson, and Billy, Joyce and Kyle Mixon.
Survivors include a sister, Emily C. Lane, Atlanta.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Strickland, Eddie Conway, Phil Rhodes, Carroll Gay, Bill Mincey, Don Perkins, Cecil Walters III and Cecil Proctor.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Millen Rotary Club and Clyde Harvard Sunday School Class.

LEXSY, Ga. -- Mrs. Mina Janette Youmans Collins, 94, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Bulloch Memorial Hospital, Statesboro.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tomlinson Funeral Home, Swainsboro, with Michael Newman and the Revs. W.E. Thompson and Ronnie Wills officiating. Burial will be in New Hope cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins, a native of Lexsy, had retired from the Emanuel County school system as an English teacher. She was a member of the Georgia Retired Teachers Association, the National Retired Teachers Association, the Emanuel County Farm Bureau and Stillmore United Methodist Church, and was a charter member of the Emanuel Rangers chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine C. Thomas, Swainsboro; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Charles Culver, 62, of 3623 Audubon Place, died Monday, Jan. 5, 1998, at University Hospital.

Mr. Culver was a native of Clopton, Ala.

SWAINSBORO, Ga. -- Mr. Lester Gillis Jr., 55, of 7 R.J. Holder Road, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church with the Revs. Earl Warnock and Herschel Clements officiating. Burial will be in Gillis cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Treutlen County.
Mr. Gillis, a native of Treutlen County, had lived in Swainsboro for 35 years. He was self-employed as a painter. He was a former member of the Swainsboro Police Department and a former deputy and sergeant with the Emanuel County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Woods Gillis; two sons, Lester Wayne Gillis, Swainsboro, and Keith Gillis, Wadley; a daughter, Katherine Hall, Wrightsville; a brother, Shannon Gillis, Soperton; and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Gene Arrington, Ronny Sweat, Terry Bell, Dale Williams, Bobby Seamans, Keith Johnson, R.W. Newsome and Bobby Joe Moxley.

Mrs. Kuhlke, a native of Augusta, was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the Altar Guild and the Daughters of the King.
Survivors include three daughters, Caroline Kuhlke Tefft and Bea Kuhlke, both of Augusta, and Agnes Kuhlke Holah, New York; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lane, a native of Wagner, Okla., had retired.
His family said: God graced us with a man with wisdom and laughter.

AIKEN -- Mr. William A. ``Bill" Leach Jr., 58, of 311 Plantation Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998, at Texas Medical Center Hospice.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at South Aiken Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Hoch and Dr. Olin McBride officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens, Langley.
Mr. Leach, a native of Pittsburgh, had lived in Saudi Arabia for 20 years and was an international transportation consultant. He was a 1961 graduate of The Citadel and an Air Force veteran.
He was a past master of Arabian Lodge No. 882 and was an officer in the American Canadian Grand Lodge of Germany and the American Legion China Post No. 1. He was a member of Scottish Rite and York Rite and was a Shriner. He was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Lynn Leach; a son, William A. ``Bill" Leach III, Aiken; two daughters, Bethanne Leach, Dallas, and Jennifer Leach, Aiken; and his mother, Elizabeth B. ``Betty" Leach, Aiken.
