Rosie Jane McElhannon Cason
Rosie Jane McElhannon Cason, 68, of Eatonton, formerly of Greensboro, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
She was born on February 27, 1943, in Lexington, Ga., to the late Carl Cornelius McElhannon and Lillian Young McElhannon. She attended Greensboro High School, married in 1957 and was a seamstress at Stewart Apparel. Jane was a member of Union Point Worship Center. She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her husband, George A. Cason of Eatonton; three sons, George Douglas Cason and wife Donna of Eatonton, Michael Keith Cason and wife Laura Ann of Washington, and Anthony Wayne Cason and wife Connie of Eatonton; three sisters, Sarah Ann Hall and husband Mike of Union Point, Katherine Quin of Union Point, and Connie Scarborough and husband Eddie of Elberton; two brothers, Cornelius "Buddy" McElhannon of Winder, and Terry Lynn McElhannon of Winder; grandchildren, Jesse Douglas Cason (Rena), Jeffrey Alan Cason, Christy Cason Nation (Derrick), Amanda Cason Cruz (Juan), Forest Cason, David Cason and Joshua Cason; step-grandchildren; Colby Chandler Howard, Anthony Cole Howard; great-grandchildren, Anna Megan Cason, Kaleb Fluker, Justin Fluker, Lynn Nicole Nation, Carlos Aiden Cruz; and a number of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Lindsey and Victoria McDaniel.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 17, at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Dennis Mitchell officiating. Interment followed in Greenview cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro. Serving as pallbearers were Jesse Cason, Jeffrey Cason, David Cason, Mike Hall, Eddie Scarborough, A. J. Mathis and Forest Cason.

Eda Elaine Jones Murphy
Eda Elaine Jones Murphy, age 97, of Greensboro, Ga., and Fernandina Beach, Fla., formerly of Orlando, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, Ga.
She was born in Utica, Neb. on July 22, 1913, the daughter of the late Raymond Wesley Jones and Ethel Hannah Jones. She graduated from Utica High School at the age of 16, attended Nebraska Wesleyan College for one year and then transferred to the University of Nebraska School of Nursing in Omaha. She graduated with a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1934.
On Sept.4, 1940, Eda married William Seymour Murphy, of Florence, S.D., in Reno, Nev. Their first duty station as a married couple was Honolulu, Hawaii. William (Bill) was a Gunner's Mate Chief, assigned to the battleship, USS Nevada, stationed at Pearl Harbor with the US Pacific Fleet. Along with his brother, James Murphy, also assigned to the USS Nevada, all three survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
She began her working career as a Registered Nurse for Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. While her husband was stationed in Hawaii, during World War II, she worked at Queen's Hospital, in Honolulu.After leaving Honolulu, she continued her nursing career at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Mass. for the duration of the war.The Murphys retired to Orlando, FL in 1957, and enjoyed life there for 48 years. Eda was a member of Goss Memorial Methodist Church in Orlando. In 2003 she moved to Greensboro and lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the past seven years. She was an avid reader, loved pro football and basketball, and enjoyed her hammock overlooking the lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Murphy, in 1995; as well as siblings, Lita J. Shirley, Dale R. Jones, Glen G. Jones, and Jeneve DeCorsi. She is survived by her daughter, Eda Elaine Murphy Huenink, and son-in-law, Alvin John Huenink of Fernandina Beach, Fla., and Greensboro; two grandchildren, Jeremy A. Tallant, of McDonough, and Jenna L. Colman and her husband Chad, of Gainesville, Fla.; a great-grandchild, Asher Evan Colman; and a number of other relatives and friends.
In accordance with her wishes there will be no memorial service. Her interment will be in Bushnell, Sumter County, Fla., at Florida National cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, where she will join her beloved husband, Bill. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorial contributions are made to: Oconee Regional Humane Society (ORHS), 6350 Lake Oconee Pkwy, STE 102, PMB 178, Greensboro, GA 30642, in her memory and that of her beloved ORHS Collie, Moses.

Rosaria Pompei Pirone Nessine
Rosaria Pompei Pirone “Rose” Nessine, 80, of Eatonton passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at Saint Joseph’s East Georgia Hospital in Greensboro.
She was the wife of the late John Anthony Nessine Sr.
Born Oct. 20, 1929, in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo Pirone and Nicoletta Busico Pirone. She grew up and attended school in Newark.
In 1951, she married John Anthony Nessine Sr. who preceded her in death in 2006.
As newlyweds they lived in Newark, moved to Bayshore, N.Y., and later bought their first home in Belleville, N.J., where she worked for Jergens Lotion Factory. Later they moved to Manchester, N.J., where she worked as a teacher’s assistant in the New Jersey Public School System and retired in 2005.
After her husband’s death in 2006, she moved to Eatonton to live with her daughter. She was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church of Lakewood, N.J. She enjoyed reading and writing poetry and short stories.
Survivors include, two daughters, Lorraine Nessine (Ted) Webb of Eatonton and Michele Nessine Baggio of Los Flores, Calif.; two sons, Frank John (RoseAnn) Nessine of Vernon, N.J., and John (Laurie) Nessine Jr. of Bloomfield, N.J.; grandchildren, Stacie Ann (Fred) Schick, Frank James (Shari) Nessine, Jessika Rovell, Davie John Rovell, Christopher Joseph Baggio, Lisa Michele Baggio, Nicholina Nessine and Joelle Nessine; a great-grandchild, Selah Nessine; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Michael Pirone, James Pirone, Jerry Pirone, Flora Veneziano, Angie Liguano, Susie Cardo and a twin brother Fred Pirone, who died as an infant.
Calling hours will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at D’Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood, N.J. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood. Burial will be in the St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery, 1 Honey Locust Drive, Lakewood.
Serving as pallbearers are David Rovell, Frank Nessine, Christopher Baggio and Fred Schick.
The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

H.T. Collis
H.T. Collis, 83, of Eatonton passed away Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, at a local hospital.
His was the husband of Mae Griffin Collis of Eatonton.
Mr. Collis was born in TyTy to the late Dennis Nelson and Annie Love Collis.
He was a charter member of Lone Oak Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the deacons. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Besides his wife, survivors include, two daughters: Dianne Brown of Eatonton and Sandra Burgess of Monroe; two sons: Danny Collis of Ivy and Taylor Collis of Eatonton; a brother: Donald Collis; a sister: Myrna Meadows Pope; Grandchildren: Sandy Sheppard, Becky Renaud, Daniel Slaughter, Rick Wade, Aimee Wade, Jannie Collis, Daniel Leonard Collis, Ty Collis, Jake Collis and Katie Collis Underwood; and 20 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Wednesday at Loane Oak Baptist Church.

Joseph Willard "Joe" Leanna
Joseph Willard "Joe" Leanna, age 94, of Greensboro, Ga. died Wednesday, Sept. l, 2010.
Born October l, 1915, he was the son of the late William Leanna and Alma Olstram Leanna. He grew up and attended school in Wallace, Michigan. In 1936 Joe married Clara Josephine Haulotte in Woodstock, Ill., and they moved to Dunbar, Wisc. In 1937, where he was a logger. Along with his wife, Clara, they bought several businesses including the Algonquin Hotel in Pembine, Wisc., which they ran for many years and with their dedication to their work were able to make these businesses very successful. When he sold the hotel he partially retired and bought a part ownership in the Four Seasons Country Club in Wisc. and enjoyed to pass time playing golf and being the greens keeper at the club. In 2000, Joe and Clara moved to Madison and Greensboro. In 2005, Joe moved into Willow Run where he met many wonderful folks and was happy there. He was a member of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Leanna O'Neill and husband John of Greensboro; two sons, Robert Leanna and wife Janice of Marietta; and Larry Leanna and wife Cathy of Milwaukee. A brother Bob Leanna of Pembine; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Haulotte Leanna on Feb. 20, 2003: two great grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Barker, and Bradley Christopher Clanton, brothers Guy Leanna, Ray Leanna, and Bill Leanna.
A Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Ga. 30642 with Father G. Philip Ryan officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

John Hartwell
John Edward Hartwell of Buckhead, died Sunday, March 6 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Son of the late John William Hartwell and Janie Lou Gleaton Hartwell, he was born on May 20, 1954, in Atlanta. He attended Brown High School in Atlanta He was employed by Kroger where he had worked for 32 years and was Head Dairy Clerk. He enjoyed Nascar racing and was a fan of the Atlanta Braves. He had lived in Buckhead for the past two years, moving from Atlanta.
He is survived by his daughter, Sonia Christina Collier and husband Weldon of Buckhead; a son, Heath Hartwell and wife Jennifer of Bethlehem; three sisters, Mary Hartwell of Riverdale, Dorothy Ginn and husband Tony of Morrow, and Tina Thomas of Jonesboro; three brothers, Henry Hartwell of McDonough, , Harold Hartwell and wife Teresa of Senoia, and Roger Hartwell of Fairburn; two grandchildren, Judson Hartwell and Elizabeth Collier; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Tuesday at the McCommons Chapel with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating. McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro, was in charge of arrangements.
James TenBrook
Local resident James TenBrook, 73, expired at his home in Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro, GA on Saturday, March 5th,, 2011.
Growing up in Millville, NJ, Jim was quite the sports hero. He captained his high school baseball, basketball, and football teams. As quarterback of the team, he led them to the state championship, winning 31 consecutive games.
Jim graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960 where he played football and wrestled. Switching commissions upon graduation, he had a successful Army career. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation medal upon serving two tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He retired after twenty years as a Lt. Colonel.
He earned a masters degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M and a masters in counseling from Columbia University.
Jim spent his second career as a facilities engineer at Gettysburg College, PA and the University of Georgia, ultimately retiring as an associate vice president there.
Jim's happiest memories were coaching his sons, local orthodontist, Dr. James TenBrook of Millville, NJ and Scott TenBrook of Gainesville, VA in sports and spending time with his grandchildren.
His is also survived by his wife of fifty years, the former Muriel Roselle of Millville, now of Greensboro, GA, grandsons Justin and Chase TenBrook of Millville and Bailey Madison TenBrook of Gainesville, VA, brothers John TenBrook and wife Michelle of Sea Isle City, NJ, Robert TenBrook and wife Janice of Simi Valley, CA, Don TenBrook and wife Lisa of FL, brother-in-law Paul Roselle of Fountain Hills, AZ, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father John and mother Irene Ten Brook and sister Jacqueline McCall.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Millville, NJ on Saturday, March 19th at 11 A.M. followed by a reception at the home of Dr. TenBrook, 55 Deer Path Rd, Union Lake, Millville. A private burial for the family will be held at Arlington National cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery in VA.

Jim Thomas “Moe” Ellison
Jim Thomas "Moe" Ellison, 68, of Eatonton, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. He was born in Putnam County to the late Mr. Willie Frank Ellison Sr. and Mrs. Lucy Mae Dennis-Ellison on Feb. 19, 1943. He was the husband of Mrs. Lena Mae Reid-Ellison of Eatonton.
Mr. Ellison received his education in the Putnam County school system. He was employed by Rossee Dairy Farms. He joined Pinkerton Grove Baptist Church in 1975, where he served as a deacon until his health began to fail. He was a member of Jefferson Sun Masonic Lodge #242 where he was in good standing for 28 years. Fishing was his passion. He married his childhood sweetheart on Jan. 13, 1978. He was a loving and kind person to whomever he came in contact with.
Two sisters preceded him in death: Mrs. Olene Andrews and Mrs. Lillie Ruth Ellison.
Survivors include: one daughter, Amy Davis; two grandsons, Jim'Quaves Hunter and Jimontae Hunter; five brothers, Willie Ellison Jr., John (Rosa) Ellison Sr., Rufus (Mary) Ellison, Curtis (Shirley) Ellison, Ray (Sandra) Ellison; three sisters, Lucinda Andrews, Lucy (Rev. Willie C.) Jones Sr., Nellie (Ronnie) Evans, all of Eatonton; in-laws, Willie (Annie) Reid, of Gray, Ennis Reid, of Macon, William Reid, James (Willie Mae) Harris, Steve Cutwright, Mr. Rayfield Evans, Mr. Joe Andrews and Julia Manson, all of Eatonton; a god-daughter, Natasha Nelson and a devoted friend, Vicky Bostic, both of Monticello, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Service was held Saturday, March 5, at Greater Bell's Chapel Baptist Church in Eatonton. Putnam Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Julia Mae Little
Julia Mae Little, 84, of Eatonton, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at her Putnam County residence. She was born Nov. 7, 1926 to the late Oscar and Ava Parham. She was the wife of the late Robert Little.
Mrs. Little (Aunt Dut) was well known for her wonderful cooking shared not only with her immediate family, but also cooked for people outside of her home. She will be sadly missed. She was a member of Henderson Grove Baptist Church serving on the Mother's Board and Usher Board until her health failed. She was a loving mother of seven children, two of which preceded her in death: Bennie Ruth Griggs and Ava Marie Griggs.
Also preceding her in death: sister, Sophie Peters; brothers, Arthur Parham, Willie Parham, Oscar Parham Sr., Frederick Parham Sr., and James Parham; sisters-in-law, Louvenia Parham, Eva Parham, Ruth Parham, Dorothy Parham, Ruthie Parham, Eva Julia "Wax" Little and Katie Mae Little; brothers-in-law, Ramond Bullard, Warren Peters and Dave Little.
Survivors include: Johnny Scott Griggs (Louise), Lynda Little, Robert Chuck Little, Todd Little (Shirley), Herman Dale Little; her siblings, Lula Bullard, Robert Parham Sr., Charles Parham Sr., Martha Parham, Dallas Parham, Lula Mae Little, Margaret Sands (John), Christine Little, Mildred Little, and Charlie Little; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The service was held Saturday, March 5, at Henderson Grove Baptist Church. Burial was conducted in the East Eatonton cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery. Hurt and Redd Funeral Home of Eatonton was in charge of arrangements.
Sara Jane Clary
Mrs. Sara Jane Clary, 79, of Eatonton, passed away on February 24, 2011. She is survived by her husband, Kelly Clary, her son, Donnie Thompson and family, daughter Robin Leonard and family, and step-daughter Andrea Cliett and family. Service was held on March 1, 2011.
Prince Carl Harden Sr.
Prince Carl Harden, Sr. of 1243 Carlisle Ave, Macon, formerly of Eatonton, departed this life on March 3, 2011.
Mr. Harden was born Sept. 26, 1951 in Monticello to the late Lucious Harden, Sr. and Loyie Dennis Harden. He was a 1970 graduate of Butler Baker School.
Bro. Harden was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Macon where he served in many capacities. He served on the Steward Board, the Trustee Board, sang in the Men of Bethel Choir "MOB," was a Sunday School teacher and in the summer taught Vacation Bible School. He was employed by the Georgia Power Company for over 20 years.
Prince was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Roosevelt Harden, and his brother-in-law, Calvin Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter, Toya D. Harden Wright of Milledgeville; four sons, Prince C. Harden, Jr., Desmond C. Harden both of Macon, Terrance L. Harden, Darion J. Harden, both of Eatonton; grandchildren, Catherine E. Harden, A'Lexus Wright, Matthew Wright, Jr., Jabori Wright, Jabreshia Amica, Jonathan Wiggins, Princess Harden, Angel Harden, Dashawn Nolan, Darien Harden, Aniyah D. Harden; sisters, Mary Smith of Toomsboro, Jeanie Spivey (David) of Atlanta, Deborah Harden (Leonard Vogt) of Lilburn; brothers, Lucious Harden, Jr. (Janice), of Decatur; uncle, Clarence Harden, of East Point; godson, Kani M. Harper; nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 7, at 1 p.m. from Union Baptist Church, 240 MLK, Jr. Drive, Eatonton. Elder Jesse Porter, Pastor and Minister Michael Harden officiated. Burial followed in East Eatonton City cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery.
