He attended the Perry County School System and graduated from Marion Military High School. Before a short service in the United States Navy, he attended the University of Alabama.
In 1940, John's father built the movie theatre in Eatonton, GA and ran it until his death in 1950. At this time, John was 23 years of age. He then moved to Eatonton because he inherited the theater from his father. John ran the theatre until the 1990's when he transformed the building into rental office space. In the early years of 2000, he sold the building, ending his association with the reason for coming to Eatonton.
On December 23, 1951, John married Mary Elizabeth Cone, forming a 59 year marriage. From this marriage, one child was born, Susan Victoria. They all are members of the Eatonton First United Methodist Church.
While operating the movie theatre, John attended and graduated from the University of Georgia with a BS degree in accounting in 1961. He first worked for the J.P. Stevens textile company and then McGaw Laboratories as an accountant before retiring with 15 years employment with the State of Georgia Revenue Sales Tax Division.
John was ever interested in his Eatonton community. Upon moving to Eatonton, he quickly joined the local Kiwanis Club and Masonic Order. He actively served both of these organizations for 60 years. Just before his death, he and two other local Masonic Brothers, Roy Vining, Jr. and Jack Rossee, were proudly honored by their Rising Star #4 Masonic Lodge for their 60 years of service.
John leaves his wife, Mary Elizabeth Cone Peck, daughter Susan Peck Park, grandson Sy Park and wife Aimee, grandson J. Park and two great-grandsons, Ace and James Park. John is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Richard S. Park, Jr.
