Frank Martin

TOCCOA, Ga. - Frank Martin, 93, of Toccoa, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Toccoa Nursing Center.

He was the son of the late Lewis Martin, he was born on Nov. 23, 1912 in Stephens County, Ga., where he lived all of his life. He worked at Hayworth Furniture Company in Toccoa for a long number of years. He was a member of Toccoa Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Mae Standridge Martin; and a son, Glen Martin.

Surviving are daughters, Betty Evans of Summerville, S.C. and Faye Fowler of Toccoa; sons, John Martin of Martin and Frank Martin Jr. of Toccoa; 18 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home by the Rev. Jerry Holbrooks. Interment will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Jimmy Howard

TOCCOA, Ga. - Jimmy Dean Howard, 56, of Toccoa, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Stephens County Hospital.

Born in Toccoa, he was the son of the late Robert and Margie Hayes Howard.

Surviving are sisters, Edna U. Cochran of Toccoa, Barbara H. Oglesby of Rome and Shirley H. McKey of Gainesville; and a brother, Graffus Howard of Toccoa.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Crossroads Baptist Church in Toccoa by the Rev. G.L. Watson, pastor; burial will be in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery. The body is at Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home in Toccoa.

Linda Mae Mulchi

MT. AIRY, Ga. - Linda Mae Mulchi, 60, of Mt. Airy, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Habersham County Medical Center.

Born in Habersham County on Oct. 29, 1945, she was the daughter of the late G.L. "Bud" and Vera Mae York Hamilton. She worked several years in the Bakery Department at the Ingles in Clarkesville. She was a member of Amy's Creek Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Mulchi Sr.; a son, Carl L Mulchi Jr.; a sister, Patsys Brock; and one granddaughter, Jasmine Gisselle Bravo.

Surviving are daughters, Regina "Gina" Mulchi of Mt. Airy and Terena "Sissy" Craig of Mt. Airy; son, Charlie "Bubba" Mulchi of Mt. Airy; brothers, Lee Hamilton of Mt. Airy, Larry "Sonny" Hamilton, Jerry Hamilton and James Hamilton, all of Clarkesville; brothers, Clyde and Ronald "Runt" Hamilton, both of Clarkesville; sister, Brenda Porterfield of Cornelia; and two grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Amy's Creek Baptist Church by the Revs. Avery Mote and Paris Whitworth; burial will follow in the church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery. The family will receive friends at McGahee-Griffin-Stewart Funeral Home in Cornelia from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.

The family will be at the residence of brother, Lee Hamilton, Hwy. 197 South, Mt. Airy.

Tom Ayers

CARNESVILLE, Ga. - Tom Watson Ayers, 91, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Brown Convalescent Center in Royston.

Born Jan.13, 1915, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Milton and Pearl Garrison Ayers.

He was the father of the late Ruth Andrews, Jimmy Ayers, and Dora Janelle Ayers, and the grandfather of the late Pam Patillo.

He was a farmer and retired from Masters Furniture Company.

He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Marie C. Ayers of Canon; sons, Watson Ayers of Toccoa, Doug Ayers of Canon and David Ayers of Hartwell; daughter, Patsy Pagan of Atlanta; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Ayers of Commerce and Emerson Ayers of Westminster, S.C.; and sisters, Mildred Norris and Troyce Kazee, both of Toccoa.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at B.D. Ginn Memorial Chapel of the Ginn Funeral Home in Carnesville by the Revs. Randy Floyd and Harold LeCroy.

Burial will be in the Middle River Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">cemetery.

The body is at the funeral home, where the family received friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday.

The family is at the home, 2112 Cawthon Davis Road, Canon.

Tony Baker

HARTWELL, Ga. - Tony Lee Baker, 58, of 51 Rhodella Park St., died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Hart County Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1947 in Anderson, S.C., he was retired from Hart Electric Membership Corporation with 33 years of service as a underground technician. He was a member of the Hartwell First Presbyterian Church, Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge #690 and the Top Gun RC Club.

Surviving are his parents, George Lee Baker and Grace Moon Baker of Hartwell; wife, Terry Robinson Baker of the home; daughters, Mandy Jackson and Kristal Rowland, both of Hartwell; sister, Ann Mincey of Hartwell; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandchild.

Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hartwell First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Stephen Nelms. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

The family will be at the home.

Memorials can be made to the Hartwell First Presbyterian Church, 41 S. Carter St., Hartwell, Ga. 30643.

HENRIETTA RICH

June 27, 1911-March 23, 2006

WINTERVILLE, GEORGIA - Our loving mother, Henrietta Guest Rich, 94, of Comer, Georgia, passed away at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Winterville, Georgia on March 23, 2006.

Henrietta was born in Madison County, Georgia, June 27, 1911. She worked in the Commerce Cotton Mill, the Elberton Mill, and the Comer Blue Bell.

She was of the Baptist Faith. For over 20 years, she enjoyed going to the Madison County Senior Center.

Mrs. Rich was preceded in death by her father, Van Guest; mother, Della Wooten Guest; husband, Julian B. Rich; son, William B. Rich; four brothers, and four sisters.

Mrs. Rich is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Tina Wages of Anderson, South Carolina, Mary Short of Comer, Georgia, Paula & Dan Sullivan of Ware Shoals, South Carolina, Olean & Lonnie McDaniel of Winterville, Georgia, Jeanie Guest Vanderburg of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Fannie Guest Gunter of Comer, Georgia; brother, Herman Guest of Carlton, Georgia; sisters, Clora Guest Pulliam and Margie Guest Dudley both of Carlton, Georgia; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 21 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rich will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Powers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery in Danielsville, Georgia.

Pallbearers will be some of Mrs. Rich's great grandchildren.

The body is at the Pruitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening. The family is at the home.

Lora M. Newman

Oct. 31, 1917 - March 23, 2006

TOCCOA, Ga. - Lora McPhaul Newman, 88, of Rosedale Street died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at the Stephens County Hospital.

Born in Poulan, she lived most of her life in Toccoa, and was a member and former registrar for many years with the D.A.R.

She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Toccoa and the Tab Lawrence Sunday School class at the church, a room mother with the P.T.A. for a number of years, a den mother with the local Cub Scouts, and was involved in the restoration of the Historical House on Pond Street.

Surviving are her daughters, Dr. Georgia Ann Newman of Milledgeville and Peggy Newman Snyder of Toccoa; sister, Harriette McPhaul Adams of Lakeland, Fla.; twin brothers, Sam McPhaul of Atlanta and Malcolm McPhaul of Cochran; and three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of James Frederick Newman Sr. and the daughter of the late Neal Alexander and Georgia Hurst McPhaul.

She was preceded in death by a son, James Frederick Newman Jr.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Stephens Memorial Gardens with Dr. Georgia Ann Newman and Dr. James Powell officiating.

Interment will be in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Toccoa Nursery Fund, 205 East Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Ga. 30577 in memory of Lora M. Newman.

JANICE MIZE

CANON, GA - Mrs. Janice White Mize, 48, of 8230 Royston Hwy., Canon, GA, wife of George E. Mize, died Wednesday, May 03, 2006 at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by the Strickland Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel.

JOYCE BROWN

DEWY ROSE, GA - Mrs. Joyce Winn Brown, age 88 formerly of Elberton Highway (Nuberg Community), widow of Sen. M. Parks Brown, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston, Ga.

Funeral services are incomplete and will be announced later by the Strickland Funeral Home - Hartwell Chapel.

HOYT YEARWOOD

March 3, 1917 - June 16, 2006

TOCCOA, GEORGIA - Mr. John Hoyt Yearwood, age 89, of 505 Black Mountain Road, Toccoa passed away Friday, June 16, 2006 at the Stephens County Hospital.

The son of the late Jeff and Jessie Sosebee Yearwood, he was born March 3, 1917 in Stephens County and lived all of his life in Habersham County on Black Mountain Road.

He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, the Men's Sunday School Class and worked and traveled with the Baptist Campers on Mission.

He was a member of the Gideon's International and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II in Germany.

In 1996 he worked with the Olympics in Savannah and he worked regularly with the Habersham Soup Kitchen.

Mr. Yearwood's first job was with Claude Groover Ford.

He worked for Kimsey-Hill Ford Dealership and was self employed for several years and later he worked for Lawson Motors as Service Manager before his retirement.

He enjoyed cattle farming. After his retirement he traveled extensively with the Campers on Mission he and his wife visited and worked in 48 states and Alaska.

Mr. Yearwood loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he loved to attend their school functions and birthday parties.

Survivors include his devoted wife of sixty-eight years, Jennie Sue Anderson Yearwood of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Malcolm and Joan Yearwood of Gainesville, Georgia; three grandchildren, Jay Yearwood, Titia Sargent and her husband Kiley Sargent all of Gainesville, Dana Stumler and her husband Darrell Stumler of Watkinsville, Georgia; four great-grandchildren, Jonathan Yearwood, Elizabeth Yearwood, Will Sargent, Ben Stumler, two sisters, Anne Brock of Georgia and Bobbie Mills of Marietta, Georgia; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Hallford.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 o'clock Monday morning at The Antioch Baptist Church with The Reverend Brian Stephens and Mr. Clarence Davis officiating.

Flowers are optional or memorial may be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 663, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 and/or to The Antioch Baptist Church Building Fund, 2175 Antioch Church Road, Mt. Airy, Georgia 30563, in Mr. Yearwood's memory.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 until 9 P. M.

Interment will be in the Antioch Baptist Church cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John Hoyt Yearwood.

WILLIE RUTH CLAY

Sept. 17, 1927 - June 15, 2006

CARNESVILLE, GA - Mrs. Willie Ruth Clay, 78, of 894 Bold Springs Road, Carnesville, Georgia died Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia.

Mrs. Clay was born in Dawson County, GA, September 17, 1927, the daughter of the late Carl and Lavada Burdine Gilleland.

She was a retired employee of Hardee's of Royston and was a member of Gordon Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Andrew Waymon Clay.

Mrs. Clay is survived by sons, Andy (Skipper) Clay of Carnesville, GA and Larry W. Clay of Dawsonville, GA; daughters, Patsy Walton of Cumming, GA, Barbara Dean-Snow of Auburn, AL and Peggy Raner of Alpharetta, GA. She is also survived by two brothers, Hoyt Gilleland of Norcross, GA and Clyde Gilleland of Ellijay, GA; three sisters, Carlene Mulkey of Lawrenceville, GA, Jean Wilfong of Stone Mountain, GA and Bertice Muddiman of Canton, GA.

Also surviving, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Clay will be at 2:00p.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Crowe officiating.

Burial will follow in the Franklin Memorial Gardens-North.

The body is at the Pruitt Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening, June 16, 2006 and from 12 noon until funeral time on Saturday. The family is at the home.

Leland Ray Casey

September 23, 1916-October 17, 2006

ROYSTON, GEORGIA - Mr. Leland Ray Casey. 90, of 566 Pine Valley Drive, Royston, Georgia died Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at his home.

Mr. Casey was born in Franklin County, Georgia, September 23, 1916, son of the late Henry Lee and Winnie Allen Casey.

Mr. Casey was a 20 year Retired Veteran of the United States Navy where he was a Boiler Tender Chief having served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Casey was a member of the Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church.

He was an avid Braves fan and Georgia Tech fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Guynelle Broome Casey.

Survivors include daughter, Sandra Casey Reel of Winter Haven, Florida; grandchildren, Ginger Ward, Wayne Reel and Jennifer Salisbury; great grandchildren, Jeff Ward, Stacie Ward, Chris Ward, Kelly Ward, Kevin Ward, Mary Casey Ward, Cody Reel and J.R. Reel; nephews, Dwight Massey, Nelson Casey, Truitt Casey and Kenneth Casey; nieces, Jackie Reynolds and Laura Miller.

Preceded in death by: 4 brothers, Hubert, Jack, Ace and Frank Casey; 3 sisters, Eva Massey, Thelma Casey and Ora Mabry.

Graveside Services for Mr. Casey will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Rose Hill cemetery" target="_blank">Cemetery with Rev. Byron Greene officiating and with full military honors.

The body is at the Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston, Georgia where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday Evening.

The family is at the home. Flowers are optional.

Memorials may be made to the Gaines Chapel United Methodist Church.
