VIDALIA - Services for A.J. Helms will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service in Vidalia with burial in South Thompson Baptist Church Cemetery. Helms, 63, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000. He was a logger and of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Helms; daughter, Angie Cannady of Vidalia; brothers and sister, Gross Helms of Loganville, Bernard Simpson of Vidalia and Ollie Williams of Columbia, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Jack Hooks
WRIGHTSVILLE - Services for Jack Hooks will be at 4 p.m. today in New Home Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Hooks, 71, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. A World War II veteran, he was a pipefitter, retired from Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 150. He was a member of Scottish Rite in Macon, was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Anderson Lodge No. 2243.

Survivors include his wife, Willete R. Hooks; children, Jakie Marlow of Lewisville, N.C., David Hooks of Jackson, S.C., Steven Hooks of Rincon and Vaughn Hooks of Evans; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Stanley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

John Hooton Jr.
DUBLIN - A visitation for John W. Hooton Jr. will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Townsend Brothers Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ashland City Cemetery, Ashland, Ala. Hooton, 82, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. He was born in Montezuma, son of the late John Hooton Sr. and Mary Frances B. Hooton. He was a World War II veteran serving the Army Air Corps and Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He was was retired from Southern Bell after 37 years and was a Baptist and a Mason.

Survivors include his wife, LaDalia W. Hooton; children John W. Hooton III and Douglas Hooton, both of Phoenix, Ariz., David Hooton of Macon, Wayne Hooton of Daphne, Ala., and An-g Prosperi and Janis Hooton, both of Dublin; and a grandchild.

Alta Hutcheson
EASTMAN - Services for Alta Mae Hutcheson will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Eastman First United Methodist Church with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. Hutcheson, 100, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in a Marietta hospital. Daughter of the late Archie and Edna B. Harrell, she was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of Eastman First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Floy Owen of Marietta; grandchildren Roy H. Owen, Rebecca Owen, John Owen and Jim Owen; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in Stokes-Southerland Funeral Home and may be contacted at 704 Seventh Ave. The body will be in the church at 10 a.m.

Bobby Jenkins
SANDERSVILLE - Services for Bobby Loren Jenkins will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Sisters Baptist Church with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Jenkins, 63, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000. He served in the Coast Guard and Georgia National Guard. He attended Sisters Baptist Church and was a member of Ridgeland Heights Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon chairman, Sunday School superintendent, choir member, trustee and brotherhood member. He was a member of Georgia Cattlemen's Association and former member of Washington County Civitan Club and Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen Jenkins; children, Barbara Jones of Cumming, Bill Jenkins of Sandersville and Bruce Jenkins of Daytona Beach, Fla.; sisters, Martha Banner of Lawrenceville and Betty Jo Martin of Lilburn; five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in May and Smith Funeral Home, Sandersville, and may be contacted at the residence on Linton Road. Memorials may be made to Sunshine House.

Michael Lowe
CENTERVILLE - Services for Michael E. Lowe will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Heritage Memorial Funeral Home, Warner Robins, with burial in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Lowe, 38, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. He worked at Wilson Electric in Macon and was a member of First Baptist Church in Centerville.

Survivors include his wife, Holly H. Lowe; mother and stepfather, Joan and Sam Ellington of Macon; and sister Sherri White of Woodstock.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Richard Morton
Memorial services for Richard L. Morton will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Vineville Baptist Church. Morton, 79, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. The son of the late Frank and Esther Morton, he was a retired major from the Air Force and was retired from the Social Security Administration. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Bibb County, where he was district director and president. He was a member of Vineville Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Maria R. Morton; children, Marlou Kirby of Southport, N.C., Jeanne Slocumb of Macon, Dee Rossi of Cortona, Italy, Jim Morton of Lawrenceville, Steve Morton of Chicago and Johnny Morton of Macon; sister, Emily Zlaket of Cleveland, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C. 28607. Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Willie Nash
DESOTO - Services for Willie E. Nash will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Smithville, with burial in the church cemetery. Nash, 57, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000. He worked at Textron Automotive for the past 21 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Brown of Americus; mother, Christine Nash of Leslie; sisters and brothers, Mattie Bagley of Vero Beach, Fla., Gladys Timmons, Elbert Nash Jr., Jesse Nash, Eugene Nash, all of Leslie, and Randy Lewis and Linda Thomas, both of Smithville, and two grandchildren.

Oglethorpe Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Rufus Scott
WRIGHTSVILLE - Services for Rufus Scott will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Westview Cemetery. Scott, 66, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000. The son of the late Reece Scott, he was a supervisor at Apparel Brands. He was Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie B. Scott; son Michael Scott of Dublin; mother, Johnnie M. Scott of Wrightsville; brother and sisters Herman Scott, Edith Bush and Ruth Wilson, all of Wrightsville; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. today in Stanley Funeral Home.

Dorothy Staples
Services for Dorothy E. Staples will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Crest Lawn Funeral Home with burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Staples, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, in a local nursing home. Born in Bibb County, she was a homemaker and member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Staples; son, Donnie Staples of Macon; brother and sisters, Lamar Wade of South Carolina, Marget Edwards of Jakin and Elizabeth Piland of Phenix City, Ala.; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home and may be contacted at Wilson Airport, Lot 662.

Grover Westmoreland
CORDELE - Services for Grover Cleveland Westmoreland will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sunnyside Cemetery, veteran's section. Westmoreland, 62, died Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000. He was retired from Clark Buford Bait Co.

Survivors include his sisters and brother Nannie Owens of Cordele, Mary Watson of Spencer, Tenn., Betty Jo Walker of Burkesville, Ky., and J.P. Westmoreland of Cookesville, Tenn.

Hughes & Wright Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Grady Altman

SWAINSBORO - Services for Grady Lanier "Rabbit" Altman will be at 3 p.m. today in Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with burial in Eastbrook Cemetery. Altman, 54, died Sunday, May 7, 2000. He was a retired grounds keeper from East Georgia College.

Survivors include his wife Lena Altman; children, Marie Bedgood of Rincon, Wendy Sirmon of Adrian, and Tony Altman of Swainsboro; sister and brothers, Betty Rodriguez of Wadley, Alvie Altman of Millen, Danny Altman of Swainsboro, Roger Altman of Wilmington Island, and Kenneth Altman of Athens; and four grandchildren.

Robert Ashmore

AIKEN, S.C. - Services for Robert Evans Ashmore were Monday in First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Magnolia Gardens, Augusta. Ashmore, 85, died Thursday, May 4, 2000. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was vice president, retired from Riegel Textile. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ashmore; children Carole Martin of Burlington, N.C., and Elizabeth Veltri of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Walter Ashmore of Macon; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 224 Barnwell Avenue, Aiken, S.C. 29802 or American Cancer Society, P.O. Box K, Aiken, S.C. 29802. Shellhouse Funeral Home in Aiken, S.C., has charge of arrangements.

Reba Bennett

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Services for Reba Bennett will be at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. Bennett, 86, died Saturday, May 6, 2000. She was a member of North Shore Bible Church and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her children David Bennett of Cambridge, Mass., and Robyn Block of Huntsville; sister, Elaine Jones of Auburn, Calif.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Paulk Funeral Home in Fitzgerald has charge of arrangements.
