George Zajicek

George “Zack” Zajicek, age 61, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away March 11, 2009. He was born June 6, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois and was preceded in death by his parents, George Sr. and Lorraine; son, James, and a sister, Debbie. George was a Vietnam veteran and 30-year retiree from Roadway Express. He obtained his degree in Industrial Electricity from DeKalb Community College. He was always active in youth sports with his sons. Both he and his wife, Rebecca, worked with MADD since their son’s death in 1993. He was proud of his daughter’s involvement in Special Olympics. He always enjoyed his membership in Light-house Community Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca; daughter, Tina, and son, Barry; granddaughters, Christian and Corinne Zajicek; grandsons, Quintin and Justin Gunn and their mother, Ainly Zajicek. He also leaves behind devoted family friends, John, Shirley, Nicole and Sarah Jack-son. George has eight remaining brothers and sisters, Barbara (Richard) Henry, Robert Zajicek and John Zajicek all of Chicago, Illinois, Noreen (Tony) Molinari of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Cecille (Louis) Murray and Gloria Zajicek of South Holland, Illinois, Lisa (Keith) Stogner of Frankfort, Illinois and Kenneth Zajicek of McDonough. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, Greg Castle of Chicago, Illinois, Charles Bray of Augusta, Georgia and Fred (Margaret) Bray of Abbeville, South Carolina. George is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services were conducted March 15 at the Lighthouse Community Baptist Church, Pastor Jeff McBurnett officiating. William Thomas Ford

William Thomas “Bill” Ford, age 67, of Locust Grove, Georgia, passed away March 11, 2009. He was born in Gallatin, Tennessee to the late James Edgar and Lucy Kathrin En-gland Ford. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired after over 30 years with Bennett International Group.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Susan Ford of Locust Grove; children, Jeff (Dawn) Ford of McDonough, John (Carrie) Ford of Jonesboro; Nathan Ford of Griffin, Jason Buckner of Forsyth and Angela Buckner of Forsyth; five grandchildren; siblings, Robert Ford of Tennessee, Kenneth (Lamon) Ford of Thailand, Nancy Vaughn of Tennessee, Kitty (Don) Butler of Wyoming.

Funeral services were conducted March 15 at the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, Rev. William L. Herndon officiating. Interment followed at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Elder M. Starr

Elder M. "Mutt" Starr, age 79, of McDonough, Georgia, died March 15, 2009. He was born in Milner on July 17, 1929 to the late Elder H. and Arvella Harris Starr. Mutt was a member of County Line Congregational Christian Church, where he had served faithfully in many areas. He was also a member of the Hampton Masonic Lodge #70 and McDonough Masonic Lodge #37. He was very involved with the Gideons International. After retiring from Ford Parts Depot, he opened Starr Bright Jewelers in McDonough. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Ellen Starr.

Mr. Starr is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Starr, McDonough; daughters, Helen and Charlie Davis, Hampton, Kaye and Danny Sellars, McDonough; 3 grandchildren, Chris and Kim Deatherage, Kris and Martain Hutchens, and Robin and Jason Crutchfield; 6 great grandchildren, Noah, Gabe, Hailey, Hope, Stormy, and Alex.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Vic Whited and Dr. Michael Halsey officiating. Interment will follow at County Line Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Hampton Lodge #70. Those who wish may make donations to A Friend's House. Claude Horace Wilson

Claude Horace Wilson, age 84, of Locust Grove, Georgia, passed away March 17, 2009 at Sacred Journey Hospice. Mr. Wilson was born in Musella, the son of the late Sara Anna Wiggins and Claude Apolean Wilson. Mr. Wilson served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic before retiring. He enjoyed being with his family, visiting, mechanic work, and gardening and he was also known for being an all around handy man. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49-plus years, Pauline Watkins Wilson; brothers, Cecil Wilson and Earl Wilson; and sister, Lila Harris.

Survivors are his son, David Wilson of Locust Grove; brothers, William Wilson, Jack Wilson and James Wilson all of Musella; sister, Betty Jennings of East Point; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Wilson will be Thursday, March 19, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Joey Seabolt and Chaplain Dave Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association. Sharon Holland Jones

Sharon Holland Jones, age 51, of Stockbridge, Georgia, passed away February 28, 2009. Mrs. Jones was born in Hall County. Sharon was a devoted wife, mother, nanny, daughter and friend, who enjoyed her family, spoiling her grandchildren, Road Atlanta, and playing computer games. She was preceded in death by her father, William Robert Holland and a brother, Danny Lanier Holland.

Survivors are her husband, Alan Jones of Stockbridge; children, Shane Jones of Lawrenceville, Trisha Wheeler (J.R.) of Locust Grove; mother and step father, Betty and Rudolph Herrin; sister, Robyn Higginbotham (Brett); brother, Wayne Holland (Bea); grandchildren, Reece Wheeler, Chance Wheeler, Isaac Wheeler, and Landon Jones; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jones were held March 4 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Lewis and Rev. Tony Butler officiating. Entombment followed at Haisten/East-lawn Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home, 770-914-8833.

Helen Collum

Helen Collum, age 102, of McDonough, Georgia, passed away March 10, 2009. Mrs. Collum was born in Athens on August 23, 1906. She moved to McDonough in 1935 with her husband, Elmer M. Collum, who preceded her in death in 1957. She was a member of the Mc-Donough First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Collum was a talented person who provided handcrafted items such as ceramics, knit, and crocheted objects to the gift shop at Henry Medical Center when the hospital was first established. She was a charter member of the Silver Sixties Club at the Henry County Senior Citizens Center and received recognition on several occasions for her work with the Club. Mrs. Collum also served on the school nutrition staff at McDonough Elementary School for over twenty years. This was in an era when excellent home-style meals were served daily in the schools. Mrs. Collum’s primary task in the kitchen was baking biscuits for all of the students and the faculty. On her hundredth birthday Mrs. Collum was presented a Key to the City of McDonough by Mayor Billy Copeland. She was a strong believer in self-sufficiency and lived in her own home until her death.

Survivors include her children, Reverend Gene Collum, a retired United Methodist minister, Pat Barr and Miller Collum, both of McDonough. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Her home-going services were held at Haisten Funeral Home on March 12. Conducting the services was Rev. Gene Collum and Rev. Jim Vanwinkle, Pastor, First Christian Church of Stock-bridge. Haisten Funeral Home, 770-914-8833.
