Josie Mae Cummings

Josie Mae Cummings, 77, of Calhoun Falls, S.C., died Sept. 28, 2002, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood, S.C.
A native of White County, she was a daughter of the late Simpson and Hattie Mae Hullsey Brown. She and her husband owned and operated Jim and Joe Cash Grocery in Calhoun Falls for many years. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmie Cummings of Calhoun Falls, S.C.; a son, David Cumming of Calhoun Falls, S.C.; a brother, Frank Brown of Cleveland; three sisters, Pauline Saxon of Gainesville, Lucille Pilgrim of Cleveland and Jessie Haynes of Cleveland; two granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday at Northside Baptist Church in Calhoun Falls with the Revs. Eric Boggs and Ray Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Abbeville, S.C.
Calhoun Falls Funeral Home in Calhoun Falls, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Clyde Thompson

Clyde Smith Thompson, 64, of 366 Church St. in Elberton died Sept. 30, 2002.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of Maxine Smith Thompson of Elberton and the late Hubert Thompson. He was a retired instructor for the ROTC department at Elbert County Comprehensive, a deputy for Elbert County Sheriff's Department and a retired first sergeant of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Valerie Ruff Thompson of the home; two daughters, Donna Thompson of Elberton and Deborah Fife of Elberton; a son, Michael "Mike" Thompson of Elberton; a sister, Joan Almond of Statham; a brother, LaMar Thompson of Elberton; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. David McConnell officiating. A full military service will be held at the graveside. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
Berry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Amelia Nicora

Amelia Joyce Bond Nicora, 70, of Watkinsville died Sept. 27, 2002, at Embracing Hospice Care in Snellville.
A native of Elberton, she was a daughter of the late W.M. and Viola Maxwell Bond. She was a homemaker; a member of the Athens Area Porcelain Artists; and a charter member of the Calvary Presbyterian Church in Elberton. She was preceded in death by a son, Barry D. Nicora Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Barry D. Nicora Sr. of the home; two daughters, Maurie Luvall of Huntsville, Ala., and Lia Nicora of St. Mary's; a brother, Maurice Bond of Elberton; and four grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday at Elmhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Lohmeyer officiating. Memorials may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church building fund.

Nancy Barden

Nancy Virginia Barden, 68, of 320 S. McIntosh St. in Elberton died Sept. 26, 2002.
A native of Anderson, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Ralph Calvert and Mary Smith Calvert. She was a textile worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bud" Andrew Barden.
Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Mattox of Comer and Susan Perkel of Idaho; a son, William Patrick Barden of Elberton; a sister, Nellie Ruth Calvert of South Carolina; a brother, Joe Calvert of South Carolina; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Lighthouse Church in Elberton with the Rev. Don Beitzel officiating.
Brown Funeral Home in Danielsville is in charge of arrangements.

Annette Welborn

Helen Annette Crowe Welborn, 48, of 843 Academy Drive in Elberton died Nov. 25, 2002, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
A native of Fulton County, she was a daughter of Lucy Carter Crowe of Elberton and the late Hershel R. Crowe. She was a registered nurse and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a daughter, Candice Michelle Giannoni of Elberton; and a brother, Robert Crowe of Elberton.
Funeral services were held Nov. 27 at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adams officiating. Burial was in the Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery in Toccoa.
Berry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Reba Glenn

Reba Bell Glenn, 70, died Nov. 26, 2002.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Willie J. and Emma Lou Bell. She was a retired accountant with the University of Georgia and a member of Clouds Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Sam Glenn; a daughter, Jennifer Ishee of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Jeff Glenn of Elberton; and three brothers, Guy Bell and Ralph Bell, both of Comer, and Fred Bell of Tucker.
Funeral services were held Friday at Lord and Stephens Chapel East with the Revs. Mark Palmer and John Parker officiating. Burial was in Athens Memory Gardens.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Steve Bowman

Steven Keith Bowman, 43, of 1636 Middleton Church Road in Elberton died Nov. 23, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Abbeville, S.C., he was a son of the late Luther W. and Agnes Mitchell Bowman. He was a welder in the construction industry and was a member of Welcome Wesleyan Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Kay Bowman and Elizabeth Katrina Bowman, both of Elberton; two brothers, Ronnie Bowman and Mark W. Bowman, both of Elberton; and eight nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Wednesday at Welcome Wesleyan Methodist Church with the Rev. Dan Fernandez officiating.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Laura Griggs

Annie Laura Griggs, 73, of Elberton died Nov. 26, 2002, at Spring Valley Health Care Center.
A native of Madison County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Sallie Mae Hilliard Seigler. She was a homemaker and a member of Elberton First Baptist Church. She was a former resident of Petersburg Towers.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford Griggs; a daughter, Vickie King of Carlton; a son, William Troy "Bill" Griggs of California City, Calif.; a brother, Obie Seigler of Hartwell; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with the Revs. Ken Smith and Lee Griggs officiating. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ron Fortson, Carl Serritt, Buck Moore, Richard Griggs, Charles Sturgis and Kyle Sturgis.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Ashworth

Robert Ashworth, 74, of 1824 Highway 172 in Bowman died Nov. 24, 2002, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens.
A native of Elbert County, he was a son of the late Thomas Newton and Nora Parham Ashworth. He was retired from the textile industry and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Ashworth of Bowman; two sons, Gary Ashworth and Kenneth Ashworth, both of Bowman; two sisters, Zelma Fleeman of Royston and Ruby Nell Leard of Bowman; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 27, at Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel in Royston with the Revs. Mike Sullivan and Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Bowman.
Pallbearers were MelvinAndrews, Billy Leard, James Fleeman, Johnny Ashworth, Steve Leard and Mike Wallace.
Pruitt Funeral Home in Royston was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Bryan

Louise Elizabeth Bryan, 101, of Magnolia Estates in Elberton died Nov. 26, 2002, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.
A native of Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late James Edward and Talulah Steele Watson. She was a retired elementary school teacher, having taught in the Elbert County School System for 35 years. She was a member of the Elberton First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jasper Bryan; a son, Charles Bryan Jr.; and a grandson and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 27 at the chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Fenlon officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Hicks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
