Spog Padgett
Jan. 13, 1931-April 7, 2001
Dewey “Spog” Padgett of Dawsonville died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Friendship Nursing Center in Cleveland following an extended illness. He was 70.
A native of Pickens County, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. For many years, he owned and operated Padgett’s Garage after which he was a carpenter until his retirement.
Mr. Padgett was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lillie Padgett; a sister, Mary Goode; and a brother, Floyd Padgett.
Survivors include his daughter, Wanda Bankston, Jersey; son, Wayne Padgett, Dawsonville; brother, Roger Padgett, Dawsonville; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lawton Burt officiated. Donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Clinton Bell
Died June 20, 2001
Clinton Bell of Silverwood Drive, Dawsonville, died Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was 47.
Mr. Bell was a native of Pickens County who had lived in Lumpkin County most of his life. He was a mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Jane Adams Bell; parents, Calvin and Elsie Mae Free Bell; and brother, Frankie Bell.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Kenneth Holbrook, Dahlonega, Holly and Chris Davis, Dawsonville; brother, Howard Bell, Ringgold; sisters, Ann Fouts, Ball Ground, Judy Thomason, Acworth, Kay Holbrook, Cumming, Fay Jackson, Acworth; grandchildren, Matthew Holbrook, Amanda Holbrook, Caitlin Davis, Jacob Davis; sister-in-law, Janie Bell, Dawsonville; and several other relatives.
A graveside service was held Saturday at Antioch Cemetery
in Lumpkin County.
The Rev. Terry Fields officiated.

William Walters
May 30, 1945-June 17, 2001
GAINESVILLE – William Allen Walters, known as “Mr. Bill,” died June 17, 2001. He was 56.
He was born
in Oil City, Pa., on May 30, 1945.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Mehl Walters, and a son, Eric Roberts Walters of Nevada.
A celebration of his life was held at the family home in Gainesville on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, Ga. 30096.
Cremation Society of Georgia, Atlanta, had charge of arrangements.
Clarence Foote
Died Jan. 16, 2002
Clarence Lee Foote of Eagle Ridge Road, Dawsonville, died Jan. 16, 2002, in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Mr. Foote was survived by two stepdaughters, Zilpha Parrott, Palm Harbor, Fla., and Margaret Cravens, Chattanooga.
A memorial service was held Jan. 19 at McKee’s Chapel in Dawsonville.

John Lindner
Jan. 23, 1918-Feb. 2, 2002
John E. Lindner of Dawsonville died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 84.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Dawson County for 20 years, having moved here from Long Island, N.Y. Mr. Lindner was a retired foreman with the New York Telephone Co. with more than 30 years of service.
While in New York, he served as president of the Kiwanis Club and was a volunteer fireman on Long Island.
After moving to Dawson County he served as a volunteer with the Dawson County Senior Center, where he delivered meals on wheels for many years. He was a former deacon at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of Winds of Peace Fellowship Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ethel Lindner, Dawsonville; daughter and son-in-law, Ethel and Donald Filaski, Loganville; son, John E. Lindner Jr., Oxnard, Calif.; grandchildren, Carrie Filaski, Augusta, Donnie and Brandi Filaski, Cleveland, Kati Filaski, Atlanta; great-grandsons, Brandon Filaski, Bradley Filaski.
Funeral services were held Monday at Dawsonville Church of God of Prophecy. The Revs. Tommy Panter and A.J. Creel officiated.

Beverly Nunley
July 17, 1939-Jan. 25, 2002
DAHLONEGA – Beverly Nunley died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at her residence following an extended illness. She was 62.
Born in Yuma, Ky., she had lived in Lumpkin County for more than four years, having moved from Fayetteville, N.C.
Mrs. Nunley was a homemaker, a member of Cornerstone Christian Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Frances Scott, and a brother, David Scott.
Survivors include her husband, Richard L. Nunley, Dahlonega; daughters, Tami Williams, Dawsonville, Beth Daniel, Elizabethtown, Ky., Alicia Riggs, St. Petersburg, Fla., Amanda Reeves, Dawsonville; son, John S. Logan, Minot, N.D.; brother, Ronald Scott, Covington, Ind.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Memorial services were held Jan. 29 at Cornerstone Christian Church, Dawsonville. The Rev. Randy Smith officiated.

Ella Southern

ELLIJAY – Ella Weaver Southern of Macedonia Road died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, in the Gilmer Nursing Home. She was 88.
Mrs. Southern was born
in Gilmer County and was the daughter of the late George and Savannah Garrett Weaver.
She was a housewife and member of River Hill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Southern, and a son, Edwin Southern.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Edd Gaddis, Dawson County; sons and daughters-in-law, Everett and Glenda Southern, Ermel and Betty Southern, Euel and Judy Southern, Ruel and Alice Southern, Barbara Jean Southern, all of Ellijay; sister, Stella May, Acworth; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Sally Weaver, Acworth, Arthur Weaver, Douglasville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at River Hill Baptist Church. The Revs. Billy Cantrell, Ardell McClure and Ray Fowler officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

TALKING ROCK – Phyllis Jean Frix died Sunday, May 26, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 44. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Frix; and sister, Renee Frix. Surviving are her mother, Shirley Frix, Dawsonville; son, Tom Fowler, Talking Rock; brother, Billy Frix, Dawsonville; sisters, Jackie Watkins and Nancy Frix, both of Dawsonville; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Brandon Parker
Brandon Parker of Dawsonville died Thursday, May 23, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 16. A native of Forsyth County, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 11 years. Mr. Parker was a 10th grade student at Dawson County High School. For many years, he was an active participant in Dawson County Park & Recreation baseball and planned to pursue a career in auto mechanics. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his parents, Mark and Kay Parker; sister and brother-in-law, Beth and Christopher Baker; brother, Blake Parker; niece, Cameron Baker; grandparents, Leonard and Evelyn Shoemake, all of Dawsonville, Randall and Bobbie Parker, Cumming; great-grandmother, Ila Shoemake, Cumming; and a number of aunts, uncles and other relatives. Goat Savage
William Lewis “Goat” Savage of Dawsonville died Monday, May 27, 2002, at his residence following a sudden illness. He was 70. A native of Lumpkin County, he lived most of his life in Dawson County. He was employed by Big Canoe for 15 years after which he worked at other locations in Dawsonville. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Annette Savage, Dawsonville; brother, Yancy Savage, Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Hugh Fields will officiate. Burial will be in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. CUMMING – Dovie M. Pruitt died Sunday, May 26, 2002. She was 89. Mrs. Pruitt was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton R. Pruitt; daughter-in-law, Patsy Pruitt Thornhill; grandson, Tommy Pruitt; and son-in-law, Earl E. Marshall. Surviving are her children, Evelyn Pruitt, Lamar and Ruby Pruitt, all of Cumming, Leon and Hazel Pruitt, Tignall, Paul and Edwina Pruitt, Cumming, Mickie Wilkins, Dawsonville; son-in-law, J.M. James Williams
DAHLONEGA – James Williams died Friday, June 28, 2002, en route to Chestatee Regional Hospital in Dahlonega due to a sudden illness.
He was 36.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Lou Williams.

Buck Chapman
William “Buck” Chapman of Dawsonville died Friday, June 28, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. He was 32.
Born in Charleston, S.C., he grew up in Dawson County. He lived in Alpharetta for five years before returning to Dawson County 12 years ago. He worked for many years in the automobile maintenance field after which he enjoyed woodworking. Mr.
Chapman was a member of Christ Fellowship Church. Surviving are his wife, Nan Chapman, Dawsonville; son, Buck Chapman Jr., Dawsonville; stepchildren, Misty Boyce, Dawsonville, Kurt Boyce, Texas , Mike Boyce, Dawsonville, Rich Boyce, Ohio; mother, Patricia “Pat” Payne, Dallas; father, Grady Chapman, Ball Ground; sisters, Barbara Padgett, Dawsonville, Susan Williams, Jasper, Shannon Layne, Cumming; brothers, Russell Chapman, Dahlonega, Robert Chapman, Cumming; granddaughter, Kelsey Boyce; and a number of other relatives.

JOLIET, Ill. – Victoria H. “Vicky” Holsey, formerly of Dawsonville, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was 54.
Born in Glen Dale, W.V., a former Romeoville resident, she lived in Dawsonville for 15 years before moving to the Joliet area one year ago.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Bartsch; daughter, Sonya Rene Holsey; infant son, Joseph Lloyd Holsey; and maternal grandmother, Frances Kuprowicz. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mirinda and William Ashley, Elwood, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Crystel Holsey, Dawsonville; son, Bill Holsey, Joliet; father, Richard Bartsch, McMechon, W.V.; brother, David Bartsch; brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Jane Ann Bartsch, all of McMechon; grandchildren, Jeremy Holsey, Nichole Crow, Jacqueline, Marina and Austin Ashley, all of Elwood, Gage, Hunter and Kirsten Holsey, Dawsonville; a niece and nephews.
