Mrs. Mary B. Truett

Mrs. Mary B. Truett, 51, of 56 Hudson Road died at her residence this morning after a lengthy illness.
Arrangements will be announced by Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ruby H. Gay

Mrs. Ruby H. Gay, 74, of 190 Poplar Cir. died Saturday at Hospice LaGrange after a brief illness.
Mrs. Gay was born November 6, 1923 in Heard County, daughter of the late Tommie Felder and Sallie Kate Wilson Hunt. She had live here most of her life, was retired from Dixie Division of West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company and was a former employee of McDonalds. She was a member of First Assembly of God.
Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard Dennis and Kim Gay of Meansville and Darryl Lamar and Judy Gay of LaGrange; 11 grandchildren, Brittany Denise Gay, Ashley Marie Thompson, Christopher Dennis Gay, Brian Lamar Gay, Dustin Lamar Gay, Melanie Renee Franks, Christopher Brandon Webb, Billy Duane Gay, Veronica Izell Forbes, Douglas Randolph Hovey Jr., Christy Renee Hammett; nine great-grandchildren; six sisters, Frances Wood of LaGrange, Joyce Willingham, Peggy Powell and Deborah Gaddy, all of Hogansville, Linda Scott of Franklin and Nancy Copeland of Corinth; three brothers, Wayne Hunt, Ray Hunt and Jimmy Hunt, all of Hogansville; stepmother, Lurline Hunt of Corinth; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Comer officiating. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery in Franklin.
The family will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Darryl and Judy Gay at 105 Alton Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 76 until 9.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or First Assembly of God in memory of Mrs. Gay.

Carl Blackstone

Carl Blackstone, 83, of 130 Old Airport Road died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center of injuries received in a tractor accident.
Mr. Blackstone, born on November 9, 1914, in Chambers County, Ala., was the son of the late H.H. and Ever Pledger Blackstone. He had lived here since 1956 and was retired from LaGrange Realty Company. He was a member of Shawmut First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Frances Blackstone; two daughters and sons-in-law, Georgeann and Donald Allen and Kathleen and Don Jones, all of LaGrange; seven grandchildren, Barbara Dougherty, Tony Allen, Joey Allen, David Jones, Jennifer Watkins, Rob Jones and Jerri Tidwell; nine great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug McCart officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at their home at 130 Old Airport Road and will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8.

James Elmer Houze

James Elmer Houze, 87, of Pine Mountain died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday at Quattlebaum Funeral Home Chapel in Roanoke with the Rev. Stoney Halsey officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
Mr. Houze was born January 6, 1911, in Randolph County, Ala., the son of the late Noah and Lanora Wood Houze. He had been a resident of Roanoke most of his life and was a member Forest Home Congregational Christian Church. He had been employed with Southland Dairies
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Clark of Pine Mountain and Helen Kemp of Dallas, Texas ; a son, Millard Houze of Griffin; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Ward Houze.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Roanoke, beginning at 3 this afternoon.

Mrs. Mary B. Truett

Mrs. Mary B. Truett, 51, of 56 Hudson Road died Monday at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Truett was born August 25, 1946, in Troup County, daughter of Mrs. Edna Bailey and the late Forrest Bailey. She had lived here all of her life and was employed at Hughes-Raytheon. She was a member of Murphy Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Howard Truett, a daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Bo McDonald; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Charlotte Truett; two granddaughters, Jessica McDonald and Montana Truett, all of LaGrange; three sisters, Brooksie DeLoach of Pine Mountain, Barbara Miller of Standing Rock and Gail Hosey of LaGrange; two brothers, Dr. David Bailey of Gainesville and Leon Bailey of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Murphy Avenue Church of Christ with Evangelist Alton Bailey and Minister Larry Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at their home at 56 Hudson Road and will receive friends at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home this evening from 7 until 9

Jack B. Woodruff

Jack B. Woodruff, 72, of Indiantown, Fla., died April 7 at his residence.
Mr. Woodruff, born March 18, 1926, in Troup County, was the son of the late David Reid and Mary Beth Woodruff. He lived in LaGrange before moving to Indiantown 37 years ago where he was a self-employed auto mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee Woodruff and Marion Lee Woodruff and a sister, Virginia Woodruff.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mrs. Margaret Woodruff of Indiantown; five daughters, Della Anderson of Mayo, Fla., Jackie Knipe, Sheryl Woodruff and Beth Woodruff, all of Indiantown, and Reba Rantin of Miami, Fla.; three sons, John Woodruff and Roger Woodruff, both of Indiantown, and Mark Woodruff of Fort Knox, Ky.; two sisters, Joyce Harris and Betty Shephard, both of LaGrange; and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral services were April 10 at Indiantown Baptist Church with burial in the Port Mayaca Cemetery.

Clarence J. Jessup Jr.

Clarence Jarrell Jessup Jr., 56, of Sanford, Fla., died Tuesday .
Mr. Jessup was born in LaGrange on September 25, 1941. He moved to Florida in 1962 where he was a pipefitter and member of the Local 295 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union in Daytona Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Jessup ; his mother, Mrs. Emma Jessup of LaGrange; a daughter and son-in-law, Chera Jann and Jon McFarland of Sanford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Cheryl Jessup and Jamison and Angela Jessup, all of Deltona, Fla.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Jim Humphrey, Emma and David Allen, all of LaGrange, and Beverly and Danny Walton of Rome; and four grandchildren, Ryan, Katie Beth, Aimee and Mark Jessup.
Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Sanford.
The family will receive friends at the Brisson Funeral Home (407-322-2131) this evening from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Sallie Vardeman

Mrs. Sallie C. Vardeman, 73, of #74 Versailles Apartments died Wednesday at Hospice LaGrange after a brief illness.
Mrs. Vardeman, born October 4, 1924, in Five Points, Ala., was the daughter of the late James Andrew and Bluddie Lee Phillips Johnson. She had lived here for over 30 years and was an associate at Wal-mart. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dean and David Carothers; a grandson and his fiancee, Randy Lambeth and Amanda Bairentine, all of LaGrange; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Betty and Dan Talasek of Temple, Texas , Nell and Bobby White of LaGrange and Helen Jones of Jacksonville, Fla.; a special nephew and his wife, Millard and Sabrina Houze of Griffin; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. Max McCord officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Dean and David Carothers, at 636 Vernon Ferry Road and will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 until 8 p.m.

Charlie Paul Riggins

Charlie Paul Riggins died Wednesday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta
Mr. Riggins was the brother of Mrs. Kathie and Sanford Riggins.
The family will receive friends at the home of his sister at 104 Easy St.
West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

James Nelson Porter

James Nelson Porter, 43, of 637 West Main St. in Hogansville died as a result of injuries in a automobile accident Sunday in Newnan.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary United Methodist Church in Hogansville. The Rev. Gregory Williams will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, Jamye; his mother Beatrice; three brothers, Ray, Stanley and Bruce; and four sisters, Constance Gamble, Vickie Smith, Marilyn Keyton and Brenda Pritchett.
Thrash & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lila Rice

Lila Rice, 76, a former resident of 411 North Greenwood St., died this morning at Florence Hand Home after several months of declining health.
Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Dorothy Davis

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Davis of 105 Bragg St. died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lucy Dozier

Mrs. Lucy Dozier of 303 Johnson St. died this morning at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Atlanta.
A service by Mackey-Wilson-Jennings Funeral Home.

Charlie Paul Riggins

Funeral services for Charlie Paul Riggins will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bringing Back The Gospel at 106 DeGroat St. The Rev. Jerry Burks will officiate with burial in Southview Cemetery.
Mr. Higgins, a native of Troup County, was a Methodist and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include a brother, Sanford Riggins; two sisters, Mrs. Kathie Riggins and Mrs. Lillian Nelson, all of LaGrange; a devoted niece, Pastor Mary Edwards of Hogansville; and several other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. on Sunday at West Georgia Mortuary.

Lila Rice

Lila Rice, 76, formerly of 411 North Greenwood St., died Friday at Florence Hand Home after several months of declining health.
Miss Rice, born in Wadley, Ala., on June 8, 1921, was the daughter of the late Rev. J.B. and Elvie Moncus Rice. The Rev. J.B. Rice was a well known Baptist pastor in LaGrange for many years.
Miss Rice, who had lived in LaGrange since 1924, graduated from LaGrange High School, attended LaGrange College and graduated from Tift College in Forsyth. She held a masters degree in library science from Peabody Library School in Nashville, Tenn., and a masters in advanced library studies from Emory University.
She was an assistant director of the Kinchafoonee Regional Library in Dawson, an assistant director of the Flint River Regional Library in Griffin and for 13 years was director of the Pine Mountain Regional Library with headquarters in Manchester. For 10 years, she served as public library supervisor in the Division of Public Library Services for the State of Georgia, where during her tenure she supervised the construction of more than 110 public library buildings throughout the state.
Miss Rice was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square and the Ruth Sunday School Class where she served as a teacher. She was a member of the American Library Association, Southeastern Library Association and a life member and honorary member of the Georgia Library Association. She was a member of the LaGrange Woman’s Club, Chattahoochee Valley Art Association, Troup County Historical Society, LaGrange College Quadrangle Society, Troup County Chamber of Commerce and Highland Country Club.
Miss Rice was a past president of the Nocturne Garden Club and a member of the board of directors of Troup 2000. At one time, she was a staff writer and woman’s editor for the LaGrange Daily News.
Survivors include a sister, Lucille Ashley of Hogansville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel of the First Baptist Church. Dr. Paul R. Baxter will officiate with burial in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 this evening at Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to an organization of their choice in memory of Lila Rice.

Mrs. Laura Crockett

Mrs. Laura Elizabeth Crockett, 79, of Brian Center Nursing Care died Friday.
Mrs. Crockett, born July 22, 1918, in Heard County, was the daughter of the late John and Hattie McLain Barrett. A former resident of Roanoke, she spent most of her life in the Glenn Community, moving here two years ago. She was a member of Rock Mills United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jean Houze and Mrs. Alice Veal, both of Roanoke, Ala., and Mrs. Brenda Conley of Albany; four sons, Stewart Crockett, Mike Crockett and Ben Crockett, all of LaGrange, and Ronny Crockett of Roanoke; two sisters, Mrs. Dot Golden of Newnan and Mrs. Ethel Edge of Houston, Texas ; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Crockett, and a son, James Brannen Crockett.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel, at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road. The Rev. David Holmes will officiate with burial in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Crockett at 84 North Shore Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5 until 8 p.m.
