Mr. Harold O. Hellams, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 2004, in Snellville, Ga.
Mr. Hellams was born
in Oconee County, South Carolina. He was a service technician (specialist) for the heating and air-conditioning field. His greatest love was serving in the U.S. Army and serving his country. He served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and at Normandy -- Utah Beach. He received the Bronze Star for his service in the military and the Jubilee Award from the state of South Carolina for his service at Normandy.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel on Harry L. White Funeral Home today at 2 p.m. Reverend Bobby Jones will officiate, and Interment will take place at Green Meadows Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Christine Beasley Owens departed this life for eternal rest on Friday, Dec. 24, 2004.
Mrs. Owens was born
July 26, 1933, in Newnan. She was the first born
of Orea and Ethel Beasley. She was a lifelong and devoted member of St. John Baptist Church in Shenandoah, Ga., where she served on the Mother Board faithfully up until her death. She had a deep love for her church, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son Ronald Geter; and one sister Carolyn Beasley.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church. Rev. W.J. Clark will be the eulogist and will be assisted by Rev. John Farmer and Rev. Ronnie Johnson. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, Steven Beasley, Leroy Hill Jr., Danny Hill, Sam Hill, Angelo Hill, Cecil Moon and Joseph Smith Beasley.

Mr. Billie Lee Reed
Mr. Billie Lee Reed, 72, of Newnan, died at his home on Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, after an extended illness.
Mr. Reed was born
in Clarkesville, Mo., in 1932 to Wilmer and Loretta Reed. After high school, he joined the Air Force, in which he served as an aircraft avionics electrician. He retired 20 years later as missile avionics maintenance superintendent. Reed began his second career after graduating cum laude from Georgia State University, first as an IRS agent and retiring again as a bank examiner for the state of Georgia. He attended Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
The graveside service will be Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at 12:30 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon. Reverend Paul Melton will officiate, and the U.S. Air Force will provide military honors.
Survivors include wife, Awilda "Tootsie" Millaway Reed; one son, Stanley Reed and his wife Jo Ann of Jasper; one daughter, Linda Fordham and her husband Randy of Savannah, Ga.; three step-sons, David Millaway, Brett Millaway and Lynn Millaway; one brother, Philip Reid and his wife Shirley; one sister, Madeline Lund; three grandchildren; and many friends.

Mrs. Jennie Mae Arnold
God smiled on all of us by allowing a very special person, Jennie Mae Cook Arnold, an educator, active churchwoman, a wife, a mother, sister, an aunt and friend to walk among us. She departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004 at her home, in the care of a loving family and friends.
Mrs. Arnold was the youngest of five siblings, born
June 5, 1918 in Coweta County to Thomas and Beatrice Cook. Both parents, three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
While attending old Wesley Chapel Church, she accepted Christ at an early age. She served her church faithfully, well over half a century. It is partly due to her dream, tireless efforts and personal financial support, along with the support of the church family and community, that the new church edifice is a reality today.
She inspired and initiated the purchase of the family homestead and surrounding farmland along with two older brothers, Willie B. and Howard Cook, which the family had leased and farmed in previous years. Westside School now sits on a portion of the original property.
She was the wind beneath her family's wings. She was strong-willed and never set a goal she did not accomplish.
Mrs. Anrold attended McClelland Academy in Newnan and Forsyth Normal High School in Forsyth. Her teaching career started after she finished high school as a teenager. She taught at a church school in the Welcome Community, living in the homes of the Allen and Worthan families.
She later taught in the Smith Chapel School. She lived at home during that period and drove to school each day in a buggy pulled by a beautiful gentle mare named Dolly, which had a pony that trotted alongside its mother.
Mrs. Arnold taught herself to drive the car her brother, Walker Cook, left when he went to serve in World War II. She cast the horse and buggy aside and chauffered herself and her co-workers in a sleek vintage 1941 Chevrolet.
After the war ended and the soldiers returned home, she married
her childhood sweetheart, O. C. Arnold, who preceded her in death. Of this union, a son survives.
Mrs. Arnold received a BA Degree in Elementary Education from Fort Valley State College in 1951. She acquired her credits through summer and weekend attendance.
A few years later she was assigned to Westside School, a new school built to circumvent the historic Brown versus Board of Education landmark case, which rule the "separate, but equal" doctrine unconstitutional and mandated the integration of schools. Mrs. Arnold's first experience teaching in an integrated setting was at Elm Street School. Later she taught at Ruth Hill School.
Mrs. Arnold gave more than 30 indefatigable professional years in the service of educating children in Coweta County. She took an early retirement to care for her ailing mother, Beatrice, who lived to be 92-years-old.
Jennie Mae, as she was referred to by the family, enjoyed fun things and was young at heart. She enjoyed her membership in the Cooperative Club of Newnan. She looked forward to entertaining the members in her home each year. Good homecooked food and good conversation were the orders of the agenda. She fondly called it her "Greeting, Meeting, Eating" club.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. C. Neal officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Men and grandnephews.
Survivors include her son, Gary Carlton Arnold; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Arnold; three grandchildren, David Arnold, Teresa Arnold, Carla A. Jackson; three great-grandchildren, David Jr., Dejah, Danaeus; nieces, Mary Virginia Brown, Jeannette Moring, Mildred Geter; nephew, Tommy Lee Cook, grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.

Mrs. Gertrude Applequist
Mrs. Gertrude Ann Readwin Appelquist, 78, died Dec. 23, 2004.
She was the wife of Father Larry Applequist, who died in 1991. A brother, Raymond Readwin, also preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. Albans American Episcopal Church, 3348 SR 426 (Aloma Ave.), Ovieda, Fla.

Mrs. C. A. Kennedy
Mrs. Ruby Drake Kennedy, 91, widow of C. A. Kennedy and former resident of Maury County, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 in Newnan.
Mrs. Kennedy was born
Nov. 14, 1913 near Lynnville in Giles County, Tenn. to Newton White Drake and Bertha Anderson Drake. Her mother died when she was five, and her father later married
the former Ethyl Hayes.
As the daughter of a struggling tenant famrer, she knew the hard labor of "chopping and picking" cotton, watching from the fields as other children passed by on the way to school.
She witnessed the death of a young sister from tetanus in the days before antibiotics. While attending Jones High School, she made her home with an aunt in the nearby town of Lynnville and later took courses at the University of Tennessee Extension in Nashville.
She was married
Sept. 17, 1936 to Carlton A. Kennedy, a well-known teacher, principal, attorney, judge, Tennessee state senator and longtime elder and Bible teacher at West Seventh Street Church of Christ in Columbia, Tenn. They made their home on a small farm in the Culleoka Community.
After her husband's death in 1958, Mrs. Kennedy attended business college and began a 26-year career with the Tennessee Department of Employment Security in Nashville, retiring in 1987.
Mrs. Kennedy held lifelong membership in the Parent-Teacher Assocation. She served a number of years on the state board for that organization.
A member of the West Seventh Street Church of Christ in Columbia for many years, she moved her membership to West End Church of Christ after her move to Nashville, following her husband's death. She established residence in Newnan in 2000 to be nearer family after the onset of Alzheimer'. Her final years were spent as a resident of Pointe Magnolia in Newnan.
Mrs. Kennedy had a total of 11 brothers and sisters, two of whom survive: Peggy Drake Bates of Ardmore, Ala. and Harold Drake of Giles County, Tenn. Siblings preceding her in death were Mary (Mrs. James) Hyatt, Ethel Drake, William Drake, Imogene Drake, Mildred Drake, Betty (Mrs. Jerome) Holly, Thomas Drake, Hayes Drake and Bobby Drake.
In addition to her brother and sister, survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jack and Patricia Kennedy of Chattanooga, Tenn., Al and Sandra Kennedy of Newnan; grandchildren, Cheryl Phillips of Chattanooga, Alice K. and husband Craig Jackson of Nenan, Dr. Karin Kennedy and husband Steve Trageser of Chattanooga, Tenn., Andy and wife Karen Kennedy of Newnan and Elizabeth and husband Calvin Brownlee of Newnan; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends today, Dec. 28, from 6-8 p.m. at Oakes and Nichols Funeral Directors in Columbia, Tenn.

Mr. William 'Bill' Kubida
Mr. William "Bill" Kubida, 62, of Lawrenceville, died at his home on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004. Mr. Kubida was born
in Chicago to Michael and Olga Kubida, who had recently moved to America from the Ukraine. In Chicago, he studied Business Management at the University of Chicago and then served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army. Afterwards, he worked for Western Electric and then later accepted a position with Panasonic in Atlanta. While in Atlanta, he also worked as a Purchasing Agent for the State of Georgia. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Chicago and filled his spare time with woodworking and photography.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Olga Kubida; two sons, Bill Nicholson Kubida and his wife Debra of Powder Springs, and Philip Kubida and his wife Liz; three daughters, Tammy Jarrett and her husband Mathew of Newnan, Stacy Kubida, and Erika Kubida; a brother, Michael Kubida and his wife Angie; a sister, Susan Kubida; nine grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Jones Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today. The funeral will be at noon graveside at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004. Father Austin Fogarty will officiate.
