Mrs. Mary Illene (Eskew) Dodson
Mrs. Mary Illene (Eskew) Dodson, 81, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Mr. David and the late Mrs. Mary Eskew.
She was a foster parent for 55 years to 100s of children ranging from Georgia to Houston, TX and at one time having 27 children in her home at the same time.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Dodson; daughters, Dolores West of Newnan, Ga., Kristie Dodson of Newnan, Ga., Frances Dodson of Houston, Texas , and Katie Dodson of Newnan, Ga.; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga. Funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.
Mr. Edward A. Magri
Lt. Col. Edward A. Magri (USAF Ret.) died Sept. 12, 2004. He was born
July 22, 1918 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Eugene and Elizabeth Magri.
He was a graduate of Officer Candidate School in Miami, Fla., and held a master's degree in education from McKendree College. He served in the European Theater in WWII, in the Battle of the Bulge during "The Blitz" in London, England, Italy and Germany and during the liberation of the Jewish (Holocaust) concentration camps in Auswitz, Germany. Postwar he was stationed in Alaska, Hawaii and Japan and the 7th Logistics command Robbins Field (AFB) as a base inspector including Cape Canaveral.
Col. Magri retired from military service at 44 and entered business with an oil distributorship, restaurant and bowling lanes in Dublin GA and finally with a theater chain including "The Alamo" and Lam Theater in Newnan, GA.
He is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Betty Weddell Magri. Survived by daughter Kathleen Magri Hall and son-in-law Ricky Allen Hall. A memorial mass was Monday, Sept. 13, at St. George Catholic Church, Newnan, with Father Austin Fogerty officiating. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Johnny Lee "Wimp" Jackson
Funeral services for Johnny Lee "Wimp" Jackson will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. from the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Sharpsburg, with body placed in state at 1 p.m. The Reverend Ronald Grooms, pastor, officiating, assisted by Pastor Tim Mortimer. Johnny was born
April 12, 1949, in Alcoa, Tenn. to Jessie Kate Robinson and the late Willie Jackson. He joined Pleasant Grove Baptist at an early age. He departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004.
Johnny was educated in the Coweta County Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1967. He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971, with a year being served in Vietnam. He was married
to Bobbie Jean Draggs, and in this union they were blessed with two children.
Johnny was preceded in death by his step-father, Bryant Robinson; brothers, Willie Andrew Robinson, Paul Edward Robinson; sisters, Sandra Robinson White and Virginia Jackson.
Surviving are his mother, Jessie Kate Robinson, children, Johnny and Arnella Jackson, daughters, Davida Jackson and Nakela Berry, granddaughters, Olivia and Alexus; brothers, Clarence Jackson, Willie James Jackson, Marvin Robinson, Willard Jackson; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. James Watson (Bessie), Mr. and Mrs. Chris Benning (Wyvet), Rosa Jackson Phillips, and Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Trimble (Virginia) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Mrs. Edna Raymond Rhinehart Stull of Shenandoah, GA, originally of Adrian, Michigan, passed away of natural causes at the age of 97 on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004.
She is survived by her two sons, Marvin Rhinehart Stull of Senoia and Eric Stull of Adrian, Mich.
She was buried Sept. 11, 2004 by her husband at Oakwood Cemetery

Mr. Earnest J. Butts, 59, of Valley, Ala., formerly of Newnan, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.

Mr. James "Mac" McWhorter Jr.
Mr. James "Mac" McWhorter Jr., 80, of 3813 Danbury Court, Woodbridge, Va., died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2004, at his home.
Mr. McWhorter worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District of Mobile, Ala. He later worked with Otto C. Fret (the first president of ACI) in the construction of the Gaylite aggregate plant in Rockmart, Ga. In 1961, he joined Solite Corporation of Virginia and Northeast Solite Corporation of Saugerties, N.Y. and was an employee there for nearly 50 years. Mr. McWhorter was long-time supporter of, and expert in, the lightweight aggregate industry.
"Mac," well known on construction sites for his "hands-on" expertise, was an integral part in the collection of the technical data that is used today throughout the concrete related industries. He continued to be active in this research until his death.
He was an Eagle Scout and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a decorated World War II combat veteran with the U.S. Army Amphibious Engineers in the Pacific and a lifetime members of both the American Legion and the VFW.
A memorial service will be held in Buchanon City Cemetery
in Buchanon, Ga., for the Interment of his ashes on Thursday, Sept. 16. His brother, the Rev. D.F. McWhorter, will present his eulogy. Mr. Malachi Allen
Mr. Malachi Allen, 76, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004. Mr. Allen was born
in 1927 to the late George and Love Allen of Newnan. He was educated in the Coweta County public school system and served in the Army during World War II, receiving several commendations and an Honorable discharge for his patriotic service. He was employed by Marion's Thriftown Grocery and was retired from the First Citizens Bank. Mr. Allen was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Transportation Committee.
Mr. Allen is survived by two daughters, Robin Johnson and Rhonda Allen; granddaughter, Bynghum Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Jashulynn Smith, all of Newnan; a brother, Mr. and Mrs. Isiah Allen of Detroit, Michigan; two aunts, Lucille Dyer and Charlotte Colton, both of Newnan.
His wife of 47 years, Mrs. Wyndolyn Allen, and a son, Rodney Allen, preceded Mr. Allen in death.

Mr. Edmond R. Merritt Jr.
Mr. Edmond R. Merritt Jr., 88, of Newnan, Ga., died at Southwest Christian Hospice Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004. Mr. Merritt was born
in 1915 to Edmond and Annie Mae Merritt in Jenkinsburg, Ga. and joined the Navy after school, serving eleven years with duty aboard the USS Minneapolis. He was in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He retired from Rubber Masters Printing Company after more than thirty years of service as an electrotype setter. Mr. Merritt was married
to the late Edith Agnes Merritt for 16 years and after her death was married
to the late Ruby Lucille Merritt for 26 years at her death. He was a Christian and member of Victory Tabernacle Church in Conyers. He will be remembered as a loving father who loved to work in his garden and his passion for politics.
Mr. Merritt is survived by three sons, Danny Merritt of Newnan, Randy Merritt and his wife Cathy of Snellville, and Wilton Merritt of Tucker; three daughters, Anita Shipman and her husband Ray of Newnan, Elaine Brown and her husband Ron of Newnan, and Lola Merritt of Smyrna; a brother, Robert Merritt and his wife Elsie of Dunnellon, Florida; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many friends.

Mr. Harold Douglas "Doug" Byrom, 75, of Moreland, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at his residence.
He was born
in Coweta County on Sept. 21, 1928, to the late John Walter and Maggie McCollough Byrom. Mr. Byrom was retired and had been a bus driver for the Coweta County School System.
Surviving Mr. Byrom are his wife, Sally Evans Byrom; his children, James Russell Byrom, Howard Michael Byrom, Douglas Erie Byrom and John Evans Byrom; a sister, Bonnie Byrom Amis; a brother, Robert Byrom; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Sept. 4 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The funeral service will be today at 2 p.m. at the McKoon Chapel, with Reverend Charlie Pharris and Reverend Terry Thompkins officiating. Mrs. Ann Hall Dye
Mrs. Ann Hall Dye, 82, of Newnan, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
She was born
Aug. 8, 1922, in Thomaston, to the late William Thomas and Mattie Bell Hall.
Upon graduation from Robert E. Lee High School in 1939, she went to work for the Thomaston Rural Co-op. In 1946, she took the job of setting up the accounting system for the Coweta-Fayette EMC in Newnan. It was in Newnan that she met and married
her husband, Arthur Hugh "Buster" Dye. They married
in 1948 and Mrs. Dye worked as a bookkeeper for several of her husband's lumber companies, including Hardwoods of Georgia in Fayetteville and Tallapoosa.
Later, Mrs. Dye was associated with the drafting department of the R.D. Cole Manufacturing Company, where she designed and drafted water tanks and towers. After the company sold, she took a job as an accountant for the transportation department of the Coweta County School System. It was from this position that she retired in 1948. Mrs. Dye was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan where she taught children's Sunday school for many years.
She was also a leader of her children's Boys and Girls Scout Troops.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Arthur Hugh Dye; a son, Larry Hugh Dye and his wife, Janis, of Roswell; a daughter, Angela Dye Friedell and her husband, Ronald, of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Arthur Hugh Dye III, Zachary Michael Friedell and Brian Michael Dye; one great-granddaughter, Alicia Faith Dye; and one sister, Cordelia Lingold of Savannah. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Dye was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Ryals, and her brothers, Tommy Hall and Everette Hall.
The funeral service will be held Monday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m. at the graveside at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Kathleen Anne Oltz
Mrs. Kathleen Anne Oltz, 55, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004. She grew up on the family farm in Stahlstown, PA, and attended schools in Ligonier, PA, and Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania . She was a resident of Albany, Peachtree City and Newnan, Ga. for 26 years, including assignment in Guatemala. Earlier residences included Hartford, Conn., and Charlotte, N.C.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward E. Carns, and husband, Charles H. Oltz.
She is survived by her loving mother, Minnig A. Riggs Modelski, and setp-father Andrew M. Modelski, of Louisa, VA; and by her loving long-time friend and companion John C. Dunn of Newnan, Ga.
Other surviving relatives are: Barry Carns and Terry Carns Harden; Robert M. Riggs Sr. (wife, Maxine), Robert M. Riggs Jr. and Rodney F. Riggs of Stahlstown and Ligonier, PA; Madge Campbell (husband, Dale), Susan Cambell Norris and Christine Cambell Aldrichof McCalla, Ala. Also preceding her in death was her uncle, Evan R. Carns.

March 22, 1937 in Coweta County to Clarence R. and Mary (Kellum) Bishop. Mr. Bishop was a self-employed grading contractor.
