Mr. Robert C. Raines
Mr. Robert C. Raines, age 83, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife Mary Raines of Newnan; son Robert T. Raines of Newnan, Ga.; sister Margaret Kilgore of Newnan, Ga.; brother William "Billy" Raines of Newnan, Ga.; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga. Visitation will be held Monday, March 29, 2004 from 6 p.m. till 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, Brother Clay Henry and Rev. David Arrington officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan, Ga. Contributions can be made in memory of Mr. Raines to your favorite charity or a Disabled Veterans Association.

Mr. Anthony Chris Byram
Mr. Anthony Chris Byram, 51, of Newnan, Ga., died Friday, March 26, 2004. He was born March 30, 1952 in Carroll County, Ga., son of the late J. H. Byram. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Surviving are parents, E. C. and Frauline Edge of Newnan; daughter, Amber (Byram) Coffey of Marble, N.C.; three sons, Kyle Byram of Lakeland, Fla., Dusty Byram of Umatilla, Fla. and Nick Byram of Topeka, Kan.; sisters, Rita and Larry Gresham of Newnan, Ga. and Holli and Ted Justiss of Alpharetta, Ga.; brother, Eric Edge of Newnan.

Pallbearers are John Coffey, Dusty Byram, Larry Gresham, Ted Justiss, Mike McDonald, Delmar Prowant and Kyle Byram.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga. where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 27. Funeral service will be at McKoon Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 28 with Rev. Rick Duncan officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Harold E. Haynes Sr.
Mr. Harold E. Haynes Sr. of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Newnan Hospital. He was born in Coweta County on July 13, 1922 to the late James and Beatrice Thompson Haynes. Mr. Haynes was a WWII veteran and served in the U.S. Army. He served in Europe during WWII and bravely fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Haynes retired from the William L Bonnell Company as a supervisor in the tool and dye department after 35 years of service.

The funeral will be Saturday, March 27 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Parrish and Rev. Joe Strickland officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. The family has requested memorial contributions to either Newnan First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 33 Greenville St., Newnan, GA 30263 or to the American Lung Association, 2452 Spring Rd., Smyrna, GA 30080.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Haynes of Newnan; sons and daughters-in-law, Hal and Maricel Haynes of Lawrenceville, GA and Scott and Deborah Haynes of Newnan; brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Bobbie Haynes of Moreland; sister, Sally Eason of Moreland; stepson, Douglas Walls of Newnan; and step-grandchildren, Joanne Bradford and Danielle Walls, both of San Antonio, TX.

Mrs. Peggy J. Pollard
Mrs. Peggy J. Pollard, 62, of Brooks, Ga., died March 25, 2004.

She was born March 27, 1941.

Funeral is Sunday, March 28 at Open Door Baptist Church, Senoia, Ga., at 2 p.m. with burial in Whitewater Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Visitation is Saturday, March 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her children, Anthony Pollard, Deborah Pollard and Stanley Pollard.

Surviving are her husband, Robert Ishee of Brooks; daughter, Rhonda and Bruce Goddard of Brooks; grandchildren, Elizabeth Pollard, Wesley Pollard, Riley Goddard; former husband, Ralph Pollard of Brooks; mother, Mrs. Rachel Feltman of Senoia; sisters, Willene Bullock of Griffin, Dorothy Byrom of Luthersville, Linda Quick of Senoia, Cathy Harris of Grantville; brother, William Riley Kelley Jr. of Senoia; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Nancy Jane (Canavan) Cleaver
Mrs. Nancy Jane (Canavan) Cleaver, 65, of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, March 22, 2004 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 11, 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . She was the daughter of the late William Alexander Canavan. Surviving are her mother, Virginia (Pelter) Canavan Mooney and her husband, Charles Mooney; daughters, Kimberly Kilgore and her husband Douglas of Newnan, and Karen Lee Cleaver and her boyfriend Jeremy Coto of McDonough; brother, William Alexander Canavan Jr.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga. where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, March 26. The graveside funeral service will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Friday, March 26. Memorial contributions may be made in Ms. Cleaver's memory to The Alzheimer's Association or to Special Olympics.

Mr. John D. Pharris
Mr. John D. Pharris, 81, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Wednesday, March 24, 2004. He was born January 17, 1923 in Columbus, Ga. He was the son of the late Charles Elliot Pharris and the late Eula Lee Bell Pharris. His childhood was spent in Columbus, Ga. and Crawford, Ala., on the family's farms. In June 1944 he married Marguerite Smith from Fortson, Ga. He began his life-long career in the lumber industry at Muscogee Lumber Company in Columbus, Ga. in the early 1950s. In 1957 he moved his family to East Point, Ga. where he worked for a few years with Union Lumber Company. In 1962 he opened his own wholesale business, Pharris Lumber Company, presently located in Newnan, Ga. He served on the board of the National Wholesale Lumber Association for several years and was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan.

"Johnny" Pharris is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marguerite Pharris; sons, Dan Pharris of The Rock, Ga.; Don and Doug Pharris of Atlanta; a brother, James B. Pharris of Crawford, AL; sister, Georgia Dudley of Marvyn, AL; five grandchildren, Robin Pharris, Allison and Andrea Pharris, Jesse and Gracie Pharris, and several nieces and nephews.

John was a very generous man who loved people and helped anyone that he could. We will miss him greatly, but it is a comfort to know that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 25 from 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan, Ga. The funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. graveside at Park Hill Cemetery in Columbus, Ga. with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crawford Baptist Church, 4503 U. s. Highway 80, Phenix City, AL 36870 or First Baptist Church of Newnan, 15 West Washington Street, Newnan, GA 30263.

Mr. Eugene B. Franklin
Mr. Eugene B. Franklin, 87, longtime resident of Maryville, TN, died March 23, 2004 in Newnan, Ga.

He was born March 11, 1917 in Jefferson County, TN, to the late Samuel and Texie Cate Franklin. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Grose Franklin; son, Ernie Franklin; and twin brother, Clyde Franklin. He was a deacon at Oak Street Baptist Church and retired from Alcoa Aluminum after 40 years of service.

The funeral will be Saturday, March 27, at 2 p.m. graveside at Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Alcoa, TN.

Surviving are daughter, Sue Zimmerman of Newnan, Ga.; grandchildren, David Franklin of Atlanta, Ga., Aimee Wofford of Dallas, Ga., Kristin Zimmerman of Boone, NC, and Mark Zimmerman of Chapel Hill, NC.

Mr. Joel Jefferson "Jeff" Johnson
Mr. Joel Jefferson "Jeff" Johnson died March 17, 2004 in Thomaston, Ga.

Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 22, 1948 in Virginia, and lived in Coweta County for many years. He attended MIracle Tabernacle Church in Coweta County.

He is survived by his wife, Lauri; son, Joshua; step-daughters, Lydia and Narisah, of Carrollton and Newnan; sons, Joe and Chris; and daughter, Mary, all of Greensboro, North Carolina; along with four grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Helen Mann, and sister, Elizabeth Weaber, both of Charleston, South Carolina.

Mr. Johnson was a disabled veteran, having served, been decorated and injured in the Vietnam Conflict. He was also an accomplished musician, songwriter and artist.

Mrs. Annie Mae Kirkley
Mrs. Annie Mae Kirkley, 82, of Atlanta, died Saturday morning, March 20, 2004. Mrs. Kirkley was born in 1922 in Paulding County to Carl and Ellen Palmer. In 1960 she married her husband Robert Marion Kirkley and remained his loving wife until becoming his widow in 1979. She was an active member of Atlanta Metro Seventh Day Adventist. She will be remembered as a strong-willed woman who loved helping people and as a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Anette Kirkley of Atlanta; brother, Melvin Palmer of Jasper; grandson, Robert J. Kirkley of Atlanta; many nieces and nephews, and also many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Kirkley; two brothers, Buddy Palmer and Harold Palmer; and two sisters, Kathleen Coleson and Mabel Hopson.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, March 24, at 4 p.m. in the Jones Funenral Home chapel, with Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating.

Mrs. Eather Elizabeth Williamson McWhorter
Mrs. Eather Elizabeth Williamson McWhorter, 92, of Burden, Kansas, formerly of Heard County, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield, Kansas.

Mrs. McWhorter was born on August 15, 1911 in Carroll County, Ga., to the late Issac M. and Anna Duke Williamson. She was the loving wife of the late John Andrew McWhorter. During WWII she worked at the Cotton Mills in Hogansville, Ga., and later at the Callaway Carpet Mills in LaGrange, Ga. from which she retired in 1966. After retirement she worked at the Fashion Star in Carrollton and finally at the Earnest Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Ga. As a pastime she enjoyed volunteer work at Humana Hospital in Newnan, Ga., sitting with the sick, and attending the Senior Center in Franklin. She was a member of the Centralhatchee Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services for Mrs. McWhorter will be conducted Friday, March 26, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Bingham officiating. Interment will follow in the Centralhatchee Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. McWhorter is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and Harry Hoover of Kansas; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew Jerry and Karen McWhorter of Texas ; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of adoring nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Geneva Smallwood
Mrs. Geneva Wiles Smallwood of Palmetto, Ga., died March 21, 2004. She was preceded in death by brothers, Horrie and Jerome Wiles. She is survived by husband, Edward Smallwood; daughters and son-in-law, LaVern Jones, Palmetto, Teresa and Bobby Thomas, Fairburn; son, Kenneth Smallwood, Palmetto; sisters, Gertrude Nelson, Fayetteville, Jacqueline Williams, East Point, Barbara Fulghum, Palmetto; brothers, Eugene Wiles, East Point, Wendell Wiles, East Point, Harold Wiles, Palmetto, Larry Wiles, East Point; grandchildren, Kristin Jones, Dalton Thomas, Dylan Thomas and Nicole Smallwood; mother-in-law, Minnie Smallwood, Palmetto. Funeral services are 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. Frank Fulghum officiating. Interment Holly Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Lorette C. Quick of Senoia died Thursday, March 18, 2004.

Funeral services for Mrs. Quick will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Senoia First Baptist Church, with remains placed instate at 2 p.m. Rev. Ted Padgett will officiate, and internment will be held at Senoia City Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Bobby and Jane Quick of Sharpsburg; one daughter, Elaine Pollard of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Billy and Pam Quick of Newnan and Rhonda and Eric Spencer of Haralson; great-granddaughters, Makayla Quick and McKenzie Quick of Newnan; one brother, Marvin and Patsy Couch of Tyrone; one sister, Frances Whitlock of Jonesboro; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bobby Caldwell Jr.
Mr. Bobby Caldwell Jr., 46, of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Charlie Bob Caldwell Sr. He is also survived by his wife Melanie Caldwell of Newnan; mother, Sarah Caldwell Henderson of Fayetteville, Ga.; three sons, Dayna Caldwell of Newnan, Charlie Bob Caldwell III of Newnan and Micah Caldwell of Newnan; three sisters, Oneita Brancome of Newnan, Bonita Payton of Newnan, Deborah Howard of Senoia, Ga.; four grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Ronny Pate, Doug Knott, Wilson Pate, Gene Payton, Lance Duncan and Reggie Duncan.

Ms. Stephanie Renee Keith
Ms. Stephanie Renee Keith of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 20, at 1 p.m. at Sellers-Smith R. W. S. Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tilden Colton officiating. Burial in Eastview Cemetery.

Stephanie was born April 20, 1972 in Saginaw, Michigan. She is the daughter of United States Air Force Chief Master Sergeant retired Charles and Mrs. Kathy Keith of Newnan, Ga. She traveled most of her life with her parents on military assignments. She was educated in Japan, Philippines, England, California and Texas . Stephanie was a graduate of Career Point Business Office Systems in San Antonio, Texas .

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roberts and Evelyn Weems.

Surviving are children, Davante R. Purdy, Kierra Elaine Garrett; parents, CMsgt (ret) Charles W. and Kathy E. Keith of Newnan; sisters, Charka M. Johnson of Newnan, and Miriam E. and SSgt (Tony) Lewis of Shaw AFB, South Carolina; niece, Toni Lewis; four nephews, Daijon, Malik, Larenz and Adarius; grandparents, Bishop James R. and Mildred Keith of Newnan; special friends, Howard Archer, Andrea Stith and Darren Gilbert; a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Fellowship with the family at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Pinson Street, immediately following the interment. The cortege will assemble at 126 Spring Court, Newnan, at noon.

Mr. Raleigh A. Winkles
Mr. Raleigh A. Winkles, 94, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Newnan Hospital. He was born on April 22, 1909 in East Point, Georgia, the son of Julius A. Winkles and Minnie Belle Bailey Winkles, and was born on the site of the post office facility in East Point. One of the large trees removed from the property had been planted by Mr. Winkles' father. For many years he was the owner and operator of East Point Auto Service and was skilled as an automobile mechanic, often donating these skills for a worthy cause. Since moving to Newnan, following his retirement, he was a loyal member of Unity Baptist Church, and the O'dell Sunday School Class. He was a 61-year Mason of East Point Lodge, a Shriner, and he was Assistant Diretor Emeritus of the Yaarab Temple Director's Staff. His greatest joy was in his family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Allen Winkles. Their 67th anniversary would have been April 10. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Carol (Mrs. Eugene F.) Fox. Surviving Mr. Wilkles are two daughters, Gail (Winkles) Rainwater and her husband Harris, of Grantville, Ga., and Linda Sue (Winkles) McMillan and her husband Thomas of Brunswick, Ga. Grandchildren are Emily Gail and Dennis Hammer of Reno, Nevada, Valerie Alisa Smith of Tucker, Catherine and Terry Craft of LaGrange, Deborah and Barry Hardy of Gainesville, Kate and Richard Brannen of North Augusta, S.C. Great-grandchildren are Terry Craft III, Kevin Craft, Ryan Brannen, and Fiona Hammersmith. One brother, William Ernest Winkles of Jacksonville, Fla. also survives.

Funeral service will be at McKoon's chapel 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, Danny Wilson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Winkles' memory to Unity Baptist Church, 311 Smokey Road, Newnan, GA 30263. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Joyce Lambert Rainwater
Mrs. Joyce Lambert Rainwater, 81, died March 16, 2004.

A native of Coweta County Ga., she moved to Athens from LaGrange in 1969. She was a daughter of the late Marvin C. and Clyde Slaughter Lambert. She was a housemother at the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority at the University of Georgia for 25 years.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 20, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lord and Stephens East Funeral Home, Athens, Ga. Rev. Doug Tribolet will officiate. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan, Ga.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy Rainwater Davis of Havana, Fla. and Melinda Rainwater of Athens; sister, Mary Frances Robinson of Canton, Ga.; granddaughter, Katherine Hieronymus of Oxford, England; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Thompson Lake Clubhouse, 1505 Morton Road, Athens, GA 30605.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice.
