Mr. Buford Young
Mr. Buford Young, 84, of Newnan, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Avalon Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Newnan. He served in the Army during World War II and was in the second wave during the D-Day invasion.

He was the owner of Wright & Young Building Supply in Newnan. Later he operated a feed store. He joined Providence Baptist Church in 1958 and served as a Deacon for 36 years.

He is survived by his wife Ethel Young of Newnan.

Other survivors include two daughters, Dianne (Young) Dutton of Newnan, and Jane and Wilson (Young) Treadwell of Panama City; one sister, Clovis Morrow of Carrollton; two brothers, Dallas Young of Carrollton, Bill Young of Nashville; and grandchildren, Leigh Ann Smith, Beth Feralin, and Jennifer and Bill Kirk.

Pallbearers will be Clay Miller, Robby Beavers, James F. Beavers II, Billy Kirk, David Smith, and Randy McClain.

Honorary pallbearers will be great grandsons, Adam Burnham, Will Smith, Andrew Smith, Eli Smith, Hunter Kirk and Hanson Kirk.

The family will receive friends today from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at 2 p.m. at McKoon. Reverend Ken Norton will officiate. Interment will be at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Newnan.

Mrs. Evelyn Martha (Brown) Hill
Mrs. Evelyn Martha (Brown) Hill, 78, of Senoia, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Newnan Hospital in Newnan, Ga.

She was born April 8, 1912 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Hugh and Jule Brandenburg Brown. She was a member of Senoia United Methodist Church. She had been employed at Big Star Grocery. She was preceded in death by her husband, William P. Hill.

Surviving is her daughter, Karen Frances East and her husband Larry of Senoia, Ga.; brother, Harold Brown of Fayetteville, Ga.; and grandchildren, Clint and Lance East.

Arrangements are being handled by McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson St., Newnan, Ga., where the family will receive friends 11:30 to 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Funeral service will be at McKoon's chapel 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2. Rev. Bob Martin officiating. Interment in Senoia City Cemetery, Senoia, Ga.

Mrs. Ophelia McCutcheon
Mrs. Ophelia McCutcheon, 92, of Carrollton, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003.

She was born Jan. 19, 1911 in Cedartown to the late Winston and Annie Barrett, one of 11 children. In 1926 the family moved to College Park where she attended public schools and met and married her husband of 71 years. She was preceded in death by eight siblings. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a devoted assistant to her husband as he served as pastor of Baptist churches.

Surviving are her husband, Rev. C. R. McCutcheon; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Steve and Cynthia McCutcheon; granddaughter and husband, Stephanie and Sammy Dunlap, Barnesville; two sisters, Myrtice Teate, Starke, Fla., and Mary Ann Parker, Peachtree City, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are Friday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Almon Funeral Home, Carrollton, with Dr. Steve Davis and Rev. John Riley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday morning before the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Mr. Mark Deon Clark
Mr. Mark Deon Clark, 33, of 2891 Lone Oak Road in Grantville, Ga., died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 in Birmingham, Ala.

He is the son of Mr. Willie Clark and Mrs. Wilmatine Clark, and he worked as an agent for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, GBI.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 29, at 1 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church in Grantville, Ga. Rev. C. F. Melson will officiate, and Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Miss Emma Grace Murphy
Miss Emma Grace Murphy became an angel in heaven on Feb. 25, 2004.

Surviving are her parents, Clint and Angie Murphy, and her brother, Garrett Wilson Murphy. Her grandparents are John and Karey Murphy; Mike and Rosa Plant. Great-grandparents are Catherine Plant, Margaret Garrett and Mr. and Mrs. John C. Murphy Sr.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, Ga., with Rev. Jonathan Porter officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. A memorial fund to honor Emma Grace has been established at The Greenville Banking Company, P.O. Box 218, Greenville, GA 30222.

Mrs. Virginia Copeland
Mrs. Virginia Copeland, 70, of Atlanta, Ga., and formerly of Newnan, Ga., wife of the late Nathaniel Copeland, passed Feb. 20, 2004 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Saint John Baptist Church, Amlajack Boulevard, Newnan. Apostle D. L. Dennis, Pastor, officiating with remains placed in state at 11:30 a.m. Interment in the churchyard cemetery. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence of 20 Reynolds St., Newnan. Public viewing is Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.Andrews Mortuary, Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Margaret Helen Jones
Mrs. Margaret Helen Jones, 88, of Newnan, Ga., died early Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at Lafayette Nursing Home in Fayetteville, Ga. Mrs. Jones was born in Palmetto, Georgia, in 1915 to William and Mattie Collins.

The youngest of six children, she attended elementary and grammar school in a one-room schoolhouse and later graduated from Campbell High School in Fairburn. After her graduation in 1933, she married Rollin S. Fillingim and had four daughters. They were married 28 years at the time of his demise in 1961. In 1963, she married Mr. Frank Jones, to whom she was married 27 years at his death in 1991. Margaret spent all her life taking care of her family and was proud to call herself a homemaker. She was an excellent pianist and enjoyed entertaining her family and friends whenever there was an occasion to do so.

Mrs. Jones is survived by four daughters, Myrna Brown Marlene Milne, Marilyn Lenski and Melinda Coleman; three stepsons, Philip, Frank and Michael Jones; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Jones' Memorial Service will be at 3 p.m Saturday, Feb. 28, at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating.

Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth (Betty) Nations
Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth (Betty) Nations of Newnan, Ga., died Feb. 25, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center. She was born on August 30, 1927 to the late Henry Roy Brewer Sr. and Lois Griffith Brewer in Fulton County. She was a homemaker, a member of the Pentecostal Holiness faith, worked at Newnan Hospital for many years and has lived in Coweta County for over 20 years. She is survived by her son Mr. William Howard Pratt of Newnan; daughter, Alver Jean Byrd of Manchester; brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Jammie Brewer of Mabellton, Bill Brewer of Jonesboro, Warren and Dot Brewer of Riverdale, Tommy and Sharon Brewer of Tennessee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Herschel Hawkins of Newnan, Shirley and Bill Couch of Newnan, Ruby and Robert Pitman of Monticello; grandchildren, Johnny Baswell and Robert Baswell; one great-grandchild; sister-in-law, Mary Brewer; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Rev. Joe Strickland officiating. Interment in College Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs. Florence Addison
Mrs. Florence Addison of Palmetto, Ga., died Feb. 23, 2004. Mrs. Addison was retired from the Playtex Corp. where she worked in production and was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Newnan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Addison, and children, Henry Gaddy, Patricia E. Waite, Dorothy M. Lawson, and Brenda Gaddy Richards.

Surviving are daughter, Fay N. Jeter of Palmetto, Ga.; brothers, John Bishop of Newnan, Thomas Bishop of Senoia; sisters, Mary Redfern of Palmetto, Cora Abbott of Carollton, Lee Youngblood, Hazel Dykes, Sue Hanson, Rose Mathis, all of Newnan; grandchildren, Mary Jane, Ann, Martha, Tommy, James, Cindy, Ricky, Jody, Michael, Brenda, Wayne, Lawrence, Toni, Tom, Gene, James, Kathy; 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Joe Strickland officiating; burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Remains will lie in state at the church from 2 p.m. until the funeral time. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Jack Erwin Barnett
Mr. Jack Erwin Barnett, 80, of Newnan, Ga., born May 17, 1923 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of the late Walter Erwin Barnett and the late Eva Humphrey Barnett of Newnan, Ga., died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004 at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, Ga. He was a member of Bethany Primitive Baptist in Tucker, Ga. Mr. Barnett retired at 37 years with Georgia Power (Plant Yates). He was a decorated veteran of World War II. He served as navigator bombadier on B-29's in the Pacific Theatre. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross six times, the Purple Heart two times, four Air Medals and the Silver Star.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Barnett of Newnan; four sons, David and his wife Martha Barnett of Newnan, Darrell & his wife Debbie Barnett of Acworth, Stephen & his wife Kathy Barnett of Newnan, Mark and his wife Francis Barnett of Griffin; grandchildren, Jennifer Barnett, Jason Barnett, Michael Barnett, of Newnan, Andy Barnett of Denver, Colorado, Kandy Larkey, Stephen Barnett Jr., Scott and Clare Barnett of Newnan, Stacy and Melissa Barnett of Tyrone, Sandy and Jennifer Barnett of Newnan, Lacy Barnett of Griffin; great-grandchildren, Will Larkey, Wimberley Larkey, Christopher Barnett, Haley Barnett, Lauren Barnett, Hunter Barnett, McKenzie Barnett, Bailey Barnett, Jeremy Barnett and Donovan Dement, all of Newnan; two nephews and three nieces.

Ms. Naida Ann Hewett
Ms. Naida Ann Hewett, 74, of Sharpsburg, Ga., formerly of Colquitt, Ga., passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 12, 2004 at Fayette Community Hospital after an extended illness. Ms. Hewett was born in Baker County, Ga. on Nov. 8, 1929 to Mr. and Mrs. Sam Houston. Later she married and moved to Miami, Florida, where she worked as an Intake Supervisor for Dade County for 30 years and then an additional 10 years in the same capacity for the federal government. She moved to Sharpsburg in 1995 to be closer to her family. Naida was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend. She will be remembered as a sweet, generous, and loving person. Her passion for gospel music, playing the organ, gardening, and crocheting will be missed.

Ms. Hewett is survived by a son, Alonza Hewett Jr. of Miami, Florida; a daughter, Luanne Baker and her husband Chris of Sharpsburg, Ga.; brother, Edward Houston and his wife Winifred of Lumber City, Ga.; two sisters, Dorothy Casey of Lithia Springs, Ga. and Elizabeth Lane of Bainbridge, Ga.; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Her husband, Alonza Hewett Sr. and a sister, Bobby Sue Faircloth, precede her in death.

Ms. Hewett's graveside service is 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27 at Houston Cemetery in Colquitt, Ga. with Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating. In place of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society at 135 Bradford Square, Suite B, Fayetteville, GA 30215.

Ms. Viola Marshall Hazard Pierce
Ms. Viola Marshall Hazard Pierce, "Ms. Vi" as she was known to her many friends, entered into rest with her Lord Jesus Christ and rejoined her beloved husband Robert Hazard who died in 1961, and her dear daughter, Nance Hazard who died in 1996. Ms. Vi, who was 83 years "young," resided at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Newnan, Ga., at the time of her death.

Born in Ilion, Herkimer County, NY, on May 16, 1920, the daughter of Floyd and Ruth Marshall, she is survived by two daughters, Karen Irby of Nashville, TN and Barbi Ridley of Newnan, Ga. Other survivors include brothers Rev. Harry Marshall of Wilmington, DE, Dr. Verne Marshall of Geneva, NY and Wayne Marshall of Roanoke, VA; and sisters Shirley Bennett of Republic, MO, Avis Phelps of Aiken, SC, and Dale Russo of Cape Coral, FL; brothers-in-law, George Hazard Jr. and Ed Hazard both of Long Island, NY, and sister-in-law, Mary Nielsen of Bradenton, FL. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Following a private burial, memorial celebrations will be held at Heatherwood Baptist Church, 721 Shenandoah Blvd., Newnan, GA on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. and at Shadowbrook Baptist Church, 187 Suwanee Dam Road, Suwanee, GA on Sunday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Ms. Vi's favorite ministry, The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry Inc., P.O. Box 908, Bellmawr, NJ 08099.

Mrs. Margaret Skidmore, 79, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of Paso Robles, CA, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, R. Floyd Skidmore.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 28 from 4-6 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home. The funeral service and burial will be in Templeton Cemetery in California. Mr. Willis E. (Bill) Baggett Jr. of Newnan, Ga. died Feb. 23, 2004. He was a veteran of World War II and a retired Atlanta area beverage company executive.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Hill Bagget; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Dee Baggett of Blairsville; two step-daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Doug Monk of Virginia, Diana and John Jones of Peachtree City, GA; grandsons, David Baggett of Cumming, GA, Gregory Baggett of Blairsville, GA; three step-grandchildren; four great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, Rev. Wendell Baggett officating. Interment Decatur Cemetery.

Mr. Robert Hoyt (Bobby) Walton, 69, of Astor, FL, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 at Florida Hospital in Deland, FL.

A native of Sylacauga, AL, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was employed with Norfolk and Southern Railroad in Decatur, IL and Atlanta, GA. He attended B. B. Comer High School. He also worked with Southtowne Motors in Newnan, Ga.

Services are Thursday, Feb. 26 at Curtis and Son North Chapel, Sylacauga, AL, 2 p.m. Burial in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Sylacauga, AL. Rev. Tommy Reaves officiating.

Visitation is Thursday, Feb. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son funeral home.

Surviving are his wife, Ellen Walton of Astor, FL; daughter, Sherry Karas of Decatur, IL; granddaughter, Brooke Karas of Decatur, IL; sister, Jarrie Stewart of Sylacauga, AL; brother-in-law, Art Stewart of Sylacauga, AL.
