Mr. Buford H. (Bill) Carter Sr., 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 while under Respite Care at Florence Hand Home.
Mr. Carter was born
Sept. 14, 1916 in LaGrange, son of the late Buford Cephas and Elanora Harris Carter. He was a member of the First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange and a member of the Williams/Pilot Sunday School Class, and a charter member of the Troup County Sportsmen's Club.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Buford and Jane Carter Jr. of Richardson, TX, Grover and Sandra Carter of Newnan, Michael Cephas and Valoree Carter of Houston, TX; sister, Mary Taylor of LaGrange, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Rosalind E. Carter, his second wife of 14 years Ruth E. Carter, and a grandson Bill James Carter.
Funeral service is 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31 in the Ida Cason Callaway Chapel of the First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul R. Baxter and Reverend L. C. Lane officiating. Entombment will be in the family mausoleum at Shadow Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation is was Friday from 6-8 p.m. Flowers were accepted, or donations to the First Baptist Church on the Square (Children's Building Fund).

Mrs. Carol Jackson Herndon of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004.
Mrs. Herndon retired as a tax examiner for the IRS after 25 years of employment. She and her husband, Harold Herndon, were married
for 57 years and were residents of Atlanta prior to moving to Newnan 15 years ago.
Surviving are her husband, Harold Herndon, Newnan; daughters, Gina Duke of Lawrenceville, Ga. and Sherry Fishman of Severna Park, MD; son, Charles J. Herndon, Albany, Ga.; three grandchildren.

Mr. Robert Anthony (Bob) Gonzales of Hogansville, Ga., died Jan. 27, 2004 at West Georgia Medical Center. He was born
in San Diego, CA on Dec. 11, 1957 to Roberto and Sarita Gonzales who preceded him in death. He was employed by the McDonald's Corp., and was operating the Riverdale location. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy, loved football (especially the San Diego Chargers), had a great love for his family -- children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Theresa (Brooks) Gonzales; son, David Jackson Brooks; daughters, Michelle Brooks and Emily Marie Gonzales; sisters, Diane Nash and Patricia Kirkland; grandchildren, Kali, Ethan, Brenan; a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with a beloved nephew, Lucas Dorion, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to funeral time. Mr. Joseph Henry Carroll, 79, of Newnan, Ga., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan. He was a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pearl (Gillum) Endicott, 85, of Four Oaks, N.C., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, N.C. She was born
July 24, 1918 in Rose, Oklahoma, daughter of the late James Gillum and the late Annie Burgess Gillum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Endicott.
Surviving are daughter, Connie (Endicott) Moore of Four Oaks, N.C.; son, Kenneth Endicott of Newnan; grandchildren, Kerri Curlee of Newnan, Steven Endicott of Newnan, Tammy Richards of Four Oak, N.C., and Brian Hyatt of Salt Lake City, Utah; eight grandchildren.

Mr. William E. Jones of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Nora Ragsdale Jones; daughter, Beverly & John Mountz, Sharpsburg; son, Stephen & Gissel Jones, Austin, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Mountz, Sharpsburg, Sherondah Jones, Macon, Melissa Mountz, Sharpsburg, Mariessa Jones and Joshua Jones, both of Austin, TX; sister, Charlotte Timmons, Fayetteville; brother, Jasper Jones, Fayetteville; sisters-in-law, Cora Cooper, Sharpsburg, Zelma Hitchcock and Lorene Burns, both of Atlanta; brother-in-law, Curtis & Ernestine Ragsdale, Powder Springs; a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge he earned a degree in accounting from the University of Georgia (Atlanta campus), and a law degree from the Woodrow Wilson School of Law, also in Atlanta. He was employed with the Gulf Oil Corporation for 35 years until his retirement. Afte retirement, he earned his real estate brokers license in Tennessee. Throughout his life his love of the Lord was evident in his dedication to church work, serving as deacon, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, and in any other areas where he was needed.
Funeral services Saturday, Jan. 31, First Baptist Church of Peachtree City, 11 a.m.; in state 10 a.m. Dr. Steve Bingham and Dr. Harold Zwald officiating. Interment, Forest Lawn. Mrs. Sara Crook Massengale, a native of Meriwether County, Ga., and resident of Atlanta, Ga., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 in Mobile, Ala. at the age of 69.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Massengale of Atlanta; son, John Robert "Bobby" Massengale of Atlanta; daughters, Marie Massengale (Peter Hirsch) of Hawaii and Steffi (Jeff) Thomas of Cleveland, Ga.; sister, Louise (Lewis) Thompson of Atlanta; grandchildren, Hayla and Skyla Thomas of Cleveland, Ga.; other relatives.

Mr. John Robert (Bob) Tumperi
Mr. John Robert (Bob) Tumperi of Newnan, Ga., died Jan. 27, 2004 at his home in Newnan.
He was born
in Lake Linden, Michigan, the son of the late Isaac and Lydia Tumperi. A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, he lettered in lacrosse and ice hockey and was company commander during his first class year. He chose the armored branch and upon graduation was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, serving in Fort Knox, Ky. and Nuremberg, Germany. After leaving the Army he had a successful career in management and manufacturing with General Electric. He was president of Esterline-Angus Company in New Jersey and he joined Yokogawa Electric Co. to set up a facility in Shenandoah Industrial Park in Coweta County and serve as vice-president of operations.
Later, he operated his own management consulting company, K&T Management Systems and more recently served as conference leader and guest lecturer. He was active in the community and served in a variety of capacities, including the board of The Heritage School, director of C&S Bank, and on the Newnan Arts Council. His greatest interest was Rotary. He served as president of Newnan Rotary Club and as an assistant district governor. In 1998, he had the honor of receiving Rotary's "Significant Achievement Award" for outstanding community service. Bob demonstrated his lifelong passion for chess by initiating the Chess in Schools program through Rotary for the Coweta County School System.
Compassion, hard work, and honesty were every day attributes that Bob shared with his family as well as the community.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Laura of Chicago; son, Scott of Woodberry Forest, VA; son, Eric, daughter-in-law, Linda, and four grandchildren, Lindsey, Marshall, Nathan and Owen of Decatur, Ga.; sister, Mimi Sword of Sun City, AZ, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Newnan or to the Newnan Rotary Chess in Schools program.
The funeral service will be Saturday, Jan. 31, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Parrish and Rev. Allan Rainwater officiating. Interment is at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be at McKoon Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. Ronny Wayne Youngblood Sr., 60, of Thomaston, Ga., died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26, in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, Thomaston, with Rev. Wesley Hunt officiating. Mr. Youngblood was a native of Upson County, born
March 13, 1943 to the late Obie and Helen Tidwell Youngblood. He was a retired textile worker, having worked for Carter's of Thomaston and Griffin and Sherry Lynn Textile Company of Zebulon. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Cora Farmer Herring, daughter of the late John and Leuche Farmer, was born
July 18, 1909 in Newnan, Ga. She was the seventh child from this union, all of whom preceded her in death: Urston, Burrell, Waymon, Wallace, Euvenia, Lonetta and Velma. Cora inevitably received a dynamic education in her home, for her mother was a school teacher who was well-respected in Coweta County. Raised in a Christian home, she joined the Jones Hill Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age. A dedicated member of The Jones Hill Chapel Choir, she served as president until her health began to fail.
Cora married
the late Otis C. Melson. To this union were born
three children: Alton "Love," Lurlene and Willard. She later married
the late Joe Herring and to this union was born
one daughter, Winnie.
Cora loved her family and constantly emphasized the importance of going to church. She was a great cook, seamstress and even enjoyed fishing. She was both respected and loved by all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory four children: Mr. Alton "Love" Melson (Bessie) of Newnan, Mrs. Lurlene Smith (Willie Glenn) of College Park, Mr. Willard Melson (Mary) of Atlanta, Mrs. Winnie Cheaves (Rufus) of Newnan; 18 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Gussie Farmer of Rome, Ga., Maggie Herring of Atlanta, Mattie Pearl Harris of Atlanta, a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; and two adopted children, Gwendolyn Hutchinson and Rev. Mrs. Esther Geneva Sparks Benefield of Newnan, Ga., formerly of East Point, died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004.
Mrs. Benefield was a longtime active member of the Timberlake Nazarene Church, formerly the East Point Church of the Nazarene, and she most recently attended Raymond Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bethel Z. Benefield, and son, Jerry Benefield.
Surviving are son, Charles and wife Opal Benefield of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; daughter, Sandra and husband Jim Callahan of Newnan; son, Albert Benefield of Hapeville; son, Randy and wife Elise Benefield of Centennial, Colo.; son, Tony Benefield of Hapeville; sister, Josephine and husband Melvin Traweek; brother, Robert and wife Wilma Harper; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Robert L. White, 60, of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at his residence in Newnan, Ga. He was raised in Lorain, Ohio and graduated from Bowling Green University in 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. During his Air Force career, Bob won the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with 7 Oak-Leaf Clusters. He flew 154 missions in Vietnam. After the Air Force, he flew with Eastern Airlines for 18 years, then spent 3 years in Saudi Arabia flying for Saudi Airlines. He ended his career with Federal Express Airlines.
Surviving are his wife, Pamela (Nelson) White of Newnan, Ga.; sons, Todd White of Powder Springs, Ga., and Brian White of Newnan, Ga.; brother, Barry White of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

Mr. Patrick F. Fogarty of Foley, Ala., died Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at his residence. Born in New Orleans, LA, he moved to Atlanta, GA in 1959 where he met and married
Ava, the love of his life. Together, they raised four children. Mr. Fogarty served in Korea as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Teamster Local 728 when he retired. Mr. Fogarty loved tinkering on small engines and delighting his family and friends with his kindness and his mischievous spirit. He was an employee of Ford Motor Co. in the Quality Control Dept.

Rev. Thomas J. Boyd of Grantville, Ga., died Jan. 20, 2004. Rev. Boyd was born
May 7, 1935 in Heflin, Ala., to Jethric and Minnie Boyd. He was a chief operator for C.P.I. Plastics. Rev. Boyd was a member of the Victory Tabernacle Church. He greatly enjoyed helping others, loved his church and his Lord. A great lover of music, he regularly visited nursing homes where he was a comfort to many. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Eley.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Irene Boyd of Grantville; three sons, Gerald and Edith Boyd of Albany, Tim Boyd of Florida, and Robert Webb of Luthersville; four daughters, Jean and Phil Walsh of Newnan, Janice and Buddy Hammonds of Franklin, Gail and Bobby Dean of Franklin, and Patty Boyd of Jonesboro; brothers, T. G. Boyd of Florida and Hollis Boyd of Newnan; sisters, Ruby Rogers of Newnan and Eva Mae Johnson of Grantville; 31 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Deacon William Franklin (Brother) Harris of Haralson, Ga., died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004.
Homegoing services will be held Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Mt. Carmel Road in Haralson, Ga., with Rev. Johnny Strickland officiating. Interment in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 409 Al Roberts Road, Haralson, at 12:30 p.m.
Deacon Harris is survived by a loving wife, Irene; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Arlee (Marie) Harris of Atlanta, Ga., Mr. Arthur Lee McCrary of the Black Jack community in Coweta County; daughter, Ms. Ruby Morgan, Detroit, Mich.; 15 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Daisy Mae Harris, Atlanta, and Florence Edith Harris, Smyrna, Ga.; a host of relatives and friends.
Deacon Harris had one son, William Eugene Harris, and one daughter, Ruth Harris, who preceded him in death.
