Mrs. Tempest B. "Tim" Heard, 79, of Newnan, Ga., died Sept. 30, 2003.
She was born
Aug. 17, 1924 to James and Annie (Harris) Brazil.
A funeral is Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 from 7-9 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Heard was a homemaker, member of First Baptist Church of Newnan, and worked at Bonnell in the Sample Department for over 20 years.
She was preceded in death by son, Jackie Ira Banks.
Surviving are her husband, Louie Heard of Newnan; mother-in-law, Lizzie M. Heard of Woodbury; daughter, Judy and Russell Mapp of Dallas; sister, Mildred Holcombe of Bowden; grandchildren, Roxanne Worrell of Glendale, Arizona, Rena Pope of Powder Springs, Russell Mapp Jr. of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Cody Worrell, Kristin Pope, Jackson Mapp, Peyton Mapp.

Mr. Richard Dennis Kirkpatrick Sr., 54, of Sharpsburg, Ga., died Sunday, September 28, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East in Newnan, Ga.
He was born
August 20, 1949 in Tacoma, Washington , the son of Robert A. Kirkpatrick and Miriam McIntosh Kirkpatrick. Mr. Kirkpatrick worked in sales for a paper company.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra (Griffiths) Kirkpatrick, of Sharpsburg, formerly of Ocean County, New Jersey; two sons, Richard Dennis Kirkpatrick Jr. and his wife Sylvia of Parsippany, N.J., and expected grandchild, and Jonathan Craig Kirkpatrick of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; brother, Robert A. Mr. Frank A. Foster, 82, died at his home on Lee Street in Gray, Ga. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Bridges Funeral Home in Gray. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1 in the sanctuary of Gray United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Haney will officiate, and burial will be at Cedar Ridge Cemetery
in Gray.
Mr. Foster was born
April, 20, 1921, in Otto, N.C., but had lived in Middle Georgia for the past fifty years. A veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II, he was a graduate of Piedmont College and Peabody University. After retiring as a Chief Probation/ Parole Officer with the United States Courts in Middle Georgia, Mr. Foster continued to enjoy his hobbies of restoring antique automobiles and playing golf. He was a member of the Central Georgia Seniors Golf Association, as well as a lifelong Methodist and active member of Gray United Methodist Church since 1965.
Mr. Foster is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois K. Foster of Gray; daughters and son-in-law, Carol Foster of Macon and Dale and David Harrell of Newnan; granddaughters, Laura Foster, Deborah Harrell and Meredith Harrell; one sister, Frances McClure of Marietta; brothers, Roy Foster of Buford and Ellis Foster of Hartwell; and several nieces and nephews.

Lucile Jessie Bailey, 91, of Moreland, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003 at Newnan Hospital West in Newnan, Ga. She was a member of White Oak Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
She was the daughter of the late Marvin D. and Fannie M. Stamps Wallace, having been born
in Coweta County Jan. 2, 1912. For many years she had worked as a clerk in the probate judge's office in Coweta County. Her survivors include her nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Annie Bell Carroll Cochran, 89, of Newnan, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003.
She was born
July 24, 1914 in Coweta County to the late Oliver M. and Sallie Payton Carroll. She attended Coweta County Schools and won the county spelling bee in 1922 under the tutelage of Mrs. Delia Bridges at Arnco-Sargent School.
She was preceded in death by husband Howard Cochran; children, Ruby Eason, Bobby L. Cochran, Howard E. Cochran Jr.; brothers, John Carroll, Oliver M. Carroll; and her sister, Allie C. Cochran.
The funeral will be Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at McKoon Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6-9 p.m. Flowers are welcome, but those wishing to make contributions may do so to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund.

Mrs. Bessie Floyd Gentry, 77, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 at her home after a brief illness.
She was born
Jan. 12, 1926 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Martin Luther and Fannie Miller Floyd. Having received her education in the Newnan Schools, she has been associated with The PAPP Clinic for almost 30 years as the business office cashier. She was a loyal worker and faithful member of Unity Baptist Church, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Allen Gentry, along with her parents.
Surviving are her daughter, Teresa Higgins of Newnan; son, Marty Gentry and his wife, Sue, of Newnan, and Don Higgins of Newnan; four grandchildren, Lindsay Yearwood and her husband Michael, Caroline Moore and her husband Jarred, Matt Higgins and Chelsey Higgins; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Keith Yearwood; siblings, James Floyd, Harold Floyd, Dorothy Tomlinson, Christine Evans and Frances Brittain.

Winton Harold "Chip" Watson Jr., 52, of Montgomery, Ala., died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in a single vehicle accident when the UPS van he was driving hydroplaned.
He was the grandson of William Brewer and Amelia Crawford Witcher of Newnan, both deceased, and grandson of Robert Milton and Minnie Johnson Watson of Newnan, also both deceased.
He is survived by wife, Sydney Hamn Watson; son, Winton Hyden Watson of Montgomery; and daughter, Aimee Lynn Watson of Sylva, N.C. Also parents, Winton Harold and Jenelle Witcher Watson; sisters, Peggy Watson James (Rex), Nancy Watson Koontz (Lloyd) and Marsha Watson Fitzgerald, all of Montgomery, Ala.; and brother, Robert Monroe "Montie" Watson (Kathy) of Hickory, N.C.; 11 nieces and 8 nephews.
Survivors in Newnan are aunt, Eleanor Witcher Bridges (Herb) and uncle, William Robert Breed. In Atlanta, aunt, Frances Witcher McDowell.
He had been employed with UPS for 25 years. He and Sydney were married

Mr. Larry Garrett
Mr. Larry Garrett, 61, of Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at Piedmont Hospital, Atlanta. He was born
in Coweta County on July 13, 1942 to the late Herbert Jackson Garrett and the late Myrtle Hancock Garrett.
Mr. Garrett grew up in Coweta County always wanting to be in law enforcement. He was mentored and encouraged to follow his dream by the late Sheriff Aaron Massey. He and his brother both chose law enforcement as their professions. His brother, Tony Jackson Garrett, was killed in the line of duty while a deputy sheriff in Carroll County. Larry was Coweta County's first juvenile officer. He began his career with the Coweta Police Office in the 1960s. He was an officer with the City of Fairburn from August 1973 until June 1991. He went back to work for the Coweta County Sheriff's Office in 1992 as a patrol officer and was a deputy in the Court Services division at his death.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Yates, Rev. Terry Phillips and Sheriff Mike Yeager will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers, and fellow law enforcement officers will be honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Evelyn Greene Singleton
Mrs. Evelyn Greene Singleton, 71, of Newnan, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003 at her home after battling cancer and multiple strokes.
She was born
on July 1, 1932 in Rockmart, Ga., daughter of the late Lewis Greene and Inez Greene. After graduating from Rockmart High School, she earned three college degrees in the field of education. During her 37-year career, she taught in Coweta County Schools, West Point Schools and Lamar County Schools. She served as a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Newnan, Ga. She was an active member in Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teacher Sorority in Coweta County. Her commitment to the business education field was exemplified in her leadership of student organizations such as Future Business Leaders of America.
Her husband, Jerry E. Singleton, Sr. and her mother, Inez Greene, survive her. She is also survived by son, Ed Singleton and his wife Sandy, of Ellijay, Ga; son, Brian T. Singleton and his wife Crissie, of Newnan, Ga.; and daughter, Teresa Johnston of Telford, TN. There are seven grandchildren: Corbin Singleton of Ellijay, Ga.; Mark Singleton and Matthew Singleton of Newnan, Ga.; and Sarah Hinton, Erin Hinton, Mary Hinton and Jerry Hinton of Telford, TN.

Mr. Joseph Dennis Weaver, 62, of Dallas, Ga., passed Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003 at Fountain View Nursing Facility.
He was an honorable veteran of the U.S. Army, 82 Airborne.

Ms. Doris Hopkins Peavy, 81, of Stone Mountain died November 18, 2003. She was born
on Feb. 4, 1922 to the late Thomas and Francis Hopkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus Vinson Peavy Sr.

Ms. Lauren L. Stepaniak
Ms. Lauren L. Stepaniak, 46, ended her journey with breast cancer Nov. 19, 2003. A loving wife to Mark and dog mother to Argos and Calypso. Lauren worked in the field of education as a teacher, assistant principal and principal for 23 years.
Ms. Stepaniak was born
March 5, 1957 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to William Elbert Lytch and Priscilla Jean Shorey Lytch. At the age of 9, her family moved to Bartow, Florida, where Lauren graduated from Bartow High School in 1975. She attended the University of South Florida, Tampa, from 1975-1979, majoring in education. Her first teaching position was at the Child Enrichment Center, United Methodist Church, in Bartow. She met the love of her life, Mark Stepaniak, at a Jaycees convention in Lakeland, Florida, in May 1980. It was love at first sight and the couple was married
on June 20, 1981.
Mr. Stepaniak served his country in the Air Force and the couple travelled tirelessly during his enlistments. They lived in Zweibrucken, Germany; Del Rio, Texas ; San Antonio, Texas and on the U.S. teritory of Guam. Mr. Stepaniak retired from the Air Force on Guam in 1997, and Ms. Stepaniak became an assistant principal with the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) at that time. In 1999, the couple moved to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, where Ms. Stepaniak was the assistant principal at Ramey Unit School. When her breast cancer returned in 2002, Mr. Stepaniak accepted a position at the DDESS headquarters in Peachtree City, Ga. This move allowed the Stepaniaks to be closer to their families in Texas and Florida. Ms. Stepaniak was hired as Principal at Madras Middle School in Newnan in 2003. She is survived by her husband, Mark Stepaniak; parents, William and Priscilla Lytch; brothers, William and his wife, Nancy Lytch, Pete S. and his wife Tina Lytch; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Ray Stepaniak, sister-in-law, Cathy Stepaniak, niece Natali and nephews Nolan and David, and five nephews.

Mr. William Grady "Skipper" Morgan, 52, of Fayetteville, Ga., died Nov. 21, 2003.
He was born
April 18, 1951. He was of the Baptist faith.

May 20, 1932 in Jackson County, WV, the son of the late Eskey Pepper and the late Nellie McMurray Pepper, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and served as a plane captain/flight engineer during the Korean War. Mr. Pepper worked in sales for many years.
He is survivived by his wife, Mrs. Maria Pepper of Newnan; son, Buddy Pepper of Newnan; and grandchildren, Ryan Pepper and Juliana Pepper, both of Newnan.

Miss Pamela Ann White, 54, of Newnan, Ga., died Nov. 17, 2003 at her aunt's home in Herrin, IL.
Miss White was born
in Carroll County June 5, 1949 to Clifton and Mable (Hall) White, who both preceded her in death.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Georgia White of Lithia Springs and Vinson and Juana White of Carrollton; special aunt, Melba Adams of Herrin IL; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Alfred Williams, 83, of Newnan, Ga., will be remembered at funeral services 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, in McKoon Funeral Home Chapel, Newnan. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating. Visitation is Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Mr. Williams, son of Alfred and Irene E. Williams, was born
June 6, 1920 and raised in northeastern Pennsylvania . He grew up in a small coal-mining town where he attended high school and a local business college. After working in the private sector of construction machinery, he passed a civil service test and accepted a position in Washington , D.C. as a stenographer. Six months later after attaining permanent status he was assigned to the office of the Governor, The Panama Canal, Balboa Heights, CZ (IC300913) for a year.
Shortly after returning to Washington he was reclassified as a professional in construction machinery. Then, while trying to join the U.S. Army Air Corps he learned he had an advanced form of pulmonary tuberculosis and was hospitalized for a year while being treated with artificial pneumothorax before returning to work.
He was unable to wear a uniform during World War II, but as a civilian employee he attained professional status in the three branches of the service as a management specialist with the Department of the Army, the U.S. Air Force and as a court reporter with the U.S. Navy. His service with the Army involved seven years in Europe. The last 13 years of his government service were wiht the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington as an international business specialist. Most of his time in the private sector was with the oil industry.
In 1978, after his retirement, he and his wife Louise Magill came to Newnan. She was the daughter of Louise Kirby of Newnan and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. During the last years of his life he became active in and served as president of the local AARP chapter. He also participated in the Meals on Wheels program for five years and with American Red Cross activities.
After Mrs. Williams's death in 1992 he resumed his college work and was graduated from Georgia State University in 2000 with majors in international relations and religious studies. He was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Georgia State University and George Washington University international business alumni associations.

Ms. Lisa Darlene Harris, 43, of Ellenwood, Ga., died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at Southern Regional Medical Center.
Ms. Harris was born
July 12, 1961 in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by grandparents, Calvin McEachern and Harold Quigley; and sister-in-law, Sandra Harris.
Ms. Harris was a collector who loved car racing, fishing and the outdoors. Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Rev. Terry Calhoun officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. Family received friends Sunday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Helton Stephens, 80, of Hogansville, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. David Arrington and the Rev. Udell Addison will officiate, and burial will be in Southview Cemetery
in Moreland.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Mrs. Stephens was born
Jan. 19, 1923 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Eurvin and Sara Pritchett Helton. A member of the Baptist church, she lived in Coweta County all of her life before making her home in Hogansville nine years ago.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Earlene and Joel Smith of Newnan; three sons and daughters-in-law, Hayward and Barbara Smith and Eurvin and Connie Smith, all of Grantville, and Larry and Brenda Smith of Newnan; two step-daughters, Connie Shelnutt of Hogansville and LuAnn Giles of San Antonia, Tex.; two sisters, Martha Payton and Frances Yeager, both of Newnan; one brother, James Helton of Carrollton; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Hayward Smith and William J. Stephens Jr.
