Mr. Herby L. Wright
Mr. Herby L. Wright of Newnan, Ga. died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.

A funeral will be Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at The Faith Tabernacle, 97 West Washington St. in Newnan. Minister Julius Herron will deliver the eulogy. Burial in Westview Cemetery. Family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Wright was the son of Charlie Ben and Florine Wright and was born in Coweta County Dec. 27, 1943. He joined The Deliverance Revival Center at an early age. He was employed by the City of Newnan for 30 years, until his health failed.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters: Charles Wright, Bessie Mae Wright, Clara B. Wright and Betty Wright.

Surviving are his God mother, Mrs. Kathleen Clark; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Billy (Bertha) Wright, Mr. and Mrs. John (Minnie) Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey M. (Hattie) Wright and Mrs. Mildred Wright; two God brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Clark and Mr. Ronnie Clark; one God sister, Mrs. Jeanette Lyons; eight nephews; three nieces; two dear friends, Ms. Mattie Bell Marchman and Mrs. Joanne Fann; a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Jewell Wade
Mrs. Jewell Wade, 87, of Newnan, died Aug. 10, 2003 at Pine Knoll Nursing and Rehab Center in Carrollton.

She was born Feb. 25, 1916 in Meriwether County, Ga. to Sidney W. and Minnie Lee (Dean) Mobley, both of whom preceded her in death.

A funeral will be at Higgins Hillcrest Chapel in Newnan Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Douglas New and Rev. Searcy Jackson will officiate. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Wade was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she worked in the preschool department as a nursery worker for 30 years. She worked for the Coweta County Board of Education in food service. A hard worker all her life she loved her family and enjoyed reading and sewing.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wade.

Surviving are sons, Joe D. Wade of Newnan and Sidney W. and Maribelle Wade of Newnan; daughters, Shirley and Bobby Story of Newnan and Syble and Don Ross of Carrollton; grandchildren, Sam Story, Randy Wortham, Richard Wortham, Charles Story, Melanie Hubbard, Melissa Wade and Renee Janovec; great-grandchildren, Justin Story, Breanne Story, Tracy Story, Josh Story, Jessica Story, Patricia Story, Will Hubbard, Sarah Hubbard, Andrew Hubbard.

Mrs. Linda Daniel
Mrs. Linda Daniel, 50, of Atlanta, Ga., died Aug. 5, 2003 at Emory University Hospital.

A funeral was Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at Hines Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gregory Sutton, pastor of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton, Ga.

Linda Daniel was born Dec. 19, 1952 to the late Mr. John Witlock and Doris Daniel. She was a faithful member and was on the senior usher board at Jackson Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons, Mr. Eric Daniel, Mr. Bernard Daniel and Mr. Fleming Daniel; aunt, Tersha Henry; a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Horace Donald Gilbert
Mr. Horace Donald Gilbert of Decatur, Ga. died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003 at DeKalb Medical Center.

Mr. Gilbert was born Aug. 16, 1934 in Etowah County, Ala. to John Calvin and Rubie Gray Smith Gilbert. He was a veteran of the Air Force and a mechanic for Johnson Motor Lines.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren, Christy Nichole Pace in 2002 and Shannon Eugene Gilbert in 1978.

Funeral plans will be announced by Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Survivors include his wife Frances Kyle Gilbert of Decatur; sons and daughter-in-law, Horace Gene Gilbert of Stockbridge, John Calvin Gilbert of Alvaton and Donnie Vernon and Sharon Gilbert of Oxford; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth Gail and Larry Hamilton of Forest Park, and Dottie Doris and James Pace of Senoia; sisters, Onzelle Gray Jackson of Ashville, Ala. and Beulah Pulliam of Birmingham, Ala.; eight grandchildren; a stepson Anthony Bass of Loganville; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Joyce Simpkins
Mrs. Mary Joyce Simpkins, 62, of LaGrange, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003 at her residence.

Mrs. Simpkins was born April 7, 1941 in Floyd County, Ga. and was daughter of the late Rev. Charles and Mrs. Rosa Lee Burgess Laird. Mrs. Simpkins was a member of the First Assemby of God and was president of the Happy Hearts Senior Group.

Mrs. Simpkins is survived by her husband of seven years, Mr. Julian Simpkins of LaGrange; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Michael Quary of Sharpsburg, Ga.; son, Dale Haynes of LaGrange; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Kevin Simpkins of LaGrange and Kerry and Caty Simpkins of Fort Mill, S.C.; grandson, Joshua Hibbert of Sharpsburg, Ga.; two step-grandsons, Isaac Simpkins and Elliot Simpkins, both of Fort MIll, S.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Al Kelley of Forest Park, Ga.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Peggy Laird of Roanoke, Al. and Gene Laird and Eleanor of Senoia, Ga.

Mrs. Simpkins was preceded in death by her first husband, Delmar L. Haynes, to whom she was married 32 years.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 in the chapel of the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Rev. Llen Mathura and Rev. Steve Comer officiating. Burial will be in the Sherwood Memorial park Cemetery in Forest Park, Ga.

The family was receiving friends Monday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Katie Smith, 81, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Newnan, Ga., died Aug. 1, 2003 at Grady Memorial Hospital.

A funeral was Thursday, Aug. 7 at Hines Memorial Chapel. Evangelist Cynthia Rockmore officiated. Burial was held at Mount Harmony Memorial Gardens in Mableton, Ga.

Mrs. Katie Maude Arnold-Smith was the daughter of the late Izeal and Odessa Hayes. She was born March 29, 1922 in Newnan.

Surviving are four children, Ms. Joyce Walker, Mr. Jimmy Lee Arnold, Ms. Shirley Arnold and Mr. Lamar Arnold, all of Atlanta; two sisters, Mrs. Hezekiah (Ollie Mae) Ellis of Palmetto, Ga. and Ms. Dorthy Hayes of Atlanta and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Elbert Cunningham
Mr. Elbert Cunningham, 92, died Aug. 8, 2003, in Columbus, Ga.

Mr. Cunningham was a resident of Newnan. He was born in Randolph County, Al. on Oct. 6, 1920. He served in the U.S. Army and was also a Baptist Minister before retiring.

Visitation will take place at McKoon Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services for Mr. Cunningham will be held at McKoon Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 11, 2003 at 4 p.m. The Rev. David Arrington will officiate the services, and internment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen and Rev. Udell Addison of Columbus; one sister, Nelle Bell Pope of Carrollton; three grandchildren, Russell and Donna Addison of LaGrange, Danny and Angie Roberts of Columbus, and Kenneth and Terie Pope of LaGrange.

Ms. Sarah Ann Hinesley
Ms. Sarah Ann Hinesley, 69, died Aug. 8, 2003, in Newnan.

Hinesley was born in Newnan on Aug. 10, 1933. She was a retired Bellsouth Operator at the time of death.

Memorial services for Ms. Hinesley will be held today at 4 p.m. at Lovejoy Memorial Methodist Church. The services will be officiated by the Rev. Bob Martin.

Survivors include three brothers, Mrs. and Mrs. Harley Hinesley, Mr. and Mrs. Sonny Hinesley and Tom Hinesley; one sister-in-law, Vicki Hinesley of Sharpsburg; four nephews, Eddie Hinesley, Harley Hinesley and Lee Hinesley; and one niece, Susan Lambert.

The family suggests memorials to Lovejoy Memorial Methodist, 60 East Washington St., Newnan, Ga. 30263.

Mrs. Mary Frances O'Donnell Nix
Mrs. Mary Frances O'Donnell Nix, 99, of Newnan, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Mrs. Nix was born Jan. 29, 1904 in Barbados, West Indies, to the late John Joseph O'Donnell and Lillian Ashe O'Donnell. She graduated from high school in Atlanta and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio; Chicago, Ill.; and New York before moving back to Atlanta. She later moved to Newnan to be closer to her relatives.

Mrs. Nix was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Nix, and her daughter, Jane Nix.

A member of the Catholic Church, Mrs. Nix was a great lover of classical literature, particularly Irish poetry.

A private funeral service was held Saturday. Aug. 9, 2003 at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.

Survivors include a grandson, Paul R. Seldis of Monterey, Ca.; a sister, Elizabeth Zettler; a brother, Richard O'Donnell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Orelia B. Thomas
Mrs. Orelia B. Thomas of Union City died Aug. 7, 2003.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Coweta County on Nov. 12, 1935. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobbie Dean Thomas.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn. The Rev. Terry McDaniel will be officiating, and internment will take place at Holly Hill Memorial Park. The family received friends on Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joe (Cheryl) Creamer of Senoia; sons and daughter-in-law, Rev. and Mrs. Phil (Lynn) Thomas of Morganton, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Kenny (Elaine) Thomas of Groveland, Fl., Mr. and Mrs. Keith (Kim) Thomas; mother, Mrs. Frances Brown of Union City; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. David (Mildred) Brown of Union City, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph (Sheri) Brown of Union City; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lois Margaret Nelson Cowles
Mrs. Lois Margaret Nelson Cowles, 84, of Newnan, Ga., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at her home.

Mrs. Cowles was born June 8, 1919 in Schenectady, NY, daughter of the late Wendell Monroe Nelson and Margaret Daggett Nelson. She graduated from the University of Colorado in 1941 and married William Eddy Cowles of Bozeman, MT in 1943. They had a wonderful 60 years of marriage, living in Schenectady, NY, Ashburnham, MA, Shelbyville, IN, Lynchburg, VA, Huntsville, AL, Mobile, AL, Jackson, MS and Wesley Woods of Newnan, Ga.

Surviving are her husband Bill Cowles of Newnan; son, Dr. Winston B. Cowles (Connie) of Mobile, AL; grandson, Tyler B. Cowles (Ceil) and great-grandchildren Morgan and Allie of Jackson,TN; daughter, Margaret Balke (Robert) and grandchildren Sarah and Drew of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Christine Scarbrough (Fred) and grandchildren Anna, Dorothy, David and Megan of Fairburn, Ga.; and sister Miram Aldridge (Foster) of Asheville, NC.

Mrs. Cowles was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Anne Cowles and by her brother Wendell Nelson (Solvieg).

Loki, as she is fondly remembered, was very active in the Methodist Church, schools and community and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also contributed a great deal of her talents to the P.E.O. Sisterhood, a philanthropic educational organization, having served as president of local chapters and as a state P.E.O. officer. A scholarship was established in daughter Dorothy's name at Cottey College in Nevada, MO, a P.E.O. sponsored junior college.

Lois and husband Bill enjoyed traveling throughout the world during their retirement years together and in 1999 moved to Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City, Ga. They joined the First United Methodist Church of Newnan and became members of the Veatch-Nixon Sunday School Class.

The family will receive guests from10:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 in the chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan. A memorial service will follow immediately in the main sanctuary. There will also be a 2 p.m. memorial service at Wesley Woods of Newnan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. Cowles' memory to the Dorothy Anne Cowles Scholarship Fund, Cottey College, Nevade, MO 64772.

Mrs. Willie Pearl Jones-Prescott, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 in Decatur, Ga.

Surviving are three children, Charlie Hill Grissom Jr., Annie Freeman (Artis), and Gloria Hughley (Samuel), along with a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary United Methodist Church in Hogansville, Ga. Rev. Smith will officiate, and burial will be in the Ollie Branch Cemetery #2 in Meriwether County.

Mr. Marvin Lee Martin, 80, of College Park, Ga., died Aug. 6, 2003.

He was born Sept. 7, 1923 in Haralson County, Ga.

Surviving are wife, Mary Agnes Martin, College Park; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy Martin Lee, Newnan, Diane (Ben) Hayes of Gay, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Bobbie) Martin of Barnesville, Ga.; sisters, Flora Wright of Riverdale, Ga., Catherine Reynolds of Hiram, Ga.; brothers, Buck Martin of Hiram, Seaford Martin of Hiram; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Bridges officiating. Burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Miss Betty Lou Adams, 77, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East in Newnan, Ga.

She was born March 20, 1926. She was a retired office clerk and a member of First United Methodist Church in Newnan.

Pallbearers include Craig Waldron, Matthew Waldron, Robbie Hollister, Ryan Hollister, Ben Thompson and Shawn Mewborn.

She is survived by William and Bernice Ketcherside, Robert and Imogene Ketcherside, Kenneth Moore, Jeannine and Buddy Waldron, Linda Harris, Emilie and Dennis Reed and Mike Rabaduex.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7 at McKoon Funeral Home. A funeral will be at McKoon Funeral Home chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8 with Rev. Buddy Waldron and Rev. Larry Patton officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Geneva Gable Evans, 68, of Moreland, Ga., died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003 at Newnan Hospital East.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Dan Thrower and the Rev. Lindsey Maxwell will officiate, and burial will be in Southview Cemetery in Moreland.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Thursday and Friday nights.

Mrs. Evans was born January 10, 1935 in LaGrange, Ga., daughter of the late Vershaw and Edna Austin Boyd. A resident of Coweta County most of her life, she retired from Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan and was a member of Enon Grove Community Church at Franklin.

Surviving are husband, Jessie H. Evans; daughter and son-in-law, Edna and Donald Sherburn; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Robin Gable, all of Moreland, and Tony and Janet Gable of Carrollton; three step-daughters and step-sons-in-law, Helen and Mack Waits and Patricia and Tony Johnson, all of Heflin, Ala., and Darlene and Gene Kee of Whitesburg; step-son and step-daughter-in-law, David and Margaret Evans of Fruithurst, Ala.; three sisters, Imogene Brand, Shirley Clive and Mary Carter; five brothers, Charles Boyd, Randall Boyd, Robert Lee Boyd, Michael Boyd and Jerry Boyd; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
