Mr. Charles L. Goodson
Charles L. Goodson, son of Ora Lee and Thomas Goodson, died at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2003 at LaGrange Hospice after an extended illness.
Born on March 24, 1928, Mr. Goodson was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Enloe Goodson; two daughters, Jane Goodson of Brunswick, and Leigh Goodson Harris of Waynesville, OH; two sons, Page Goodson and Charles L. Goodson Jr., both of Carrollton; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Gary Parrish officiating. Visitation will be held at McKoon Funeral Home between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Mr. Goodson was a graduate of Heard County High School in 1945, were he served as senior class president. He graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia Law School in 1950. He served as Chief Justice of the Law School Honor Court.
From 1951 to 1953 he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon his return from the war, he was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and served from 1953 until 1955. From 1955 to1957, he was an Administrative Assistant to Congressman Jack Flynt in Washington D.C.
President John F. Kennedy appointed him U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia in 1961. He was reappointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson and remained as U.S. Attorney until 1969, when he returned to Newnan to practice law.
In Georgia, serving as attorney for the cities of Newnan and Franklin, in addition to County Attorney for Heard County, he served three years on the State of Georgia Bar Disciplinary Committee.
He retired from law practice in 1984. In retirement he served on the Board of Directors for the C & S Bank in Newnan and was the Chairman of the Bank of Heard County and Heard County Regions Bank from 1984 until 1996.

Deputy Sheriff Troy Hoyt, 26, of Senoia, Ga., died April 16, 2003.
A deputy with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, he is survived by parents Ed and Cathy Hoyt of Senoia; sisters and brothers-in-law, Richard and Tricia Ann Brownley of Newnan, Michael and Tina Marie Bledsoe of McDonough; brother, Lance Corporal Trevor Jason Hoyt (USMC), Senoia; grandparents, Frances Day and Margaret Hoyt, Indianapolis, IN; nieces, Megan Bledsoe and Maylin Colon; nephews, Jake Bledsoe, Miles Colon and Michael Colon.

Mrs. Kathryn Paxton Jones
Mrs. Kathryn Paxton Jones, 91, of Hillrise Boulevard, Johnson City, Tenn. died Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Johnson City Medical Center.
Mrs. Jones was a Defiance, Ohio native who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late John Fred and Bessie Drain Paxton.
Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Ohio State University and was a homemaker. She was a member of Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. For many years she wrote a regular column on birds for the Johnson City Press. She was also a member of the Lee Herndon Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Monday Club, the American Penwomen and the Dilettantes Book Club. She was the long-time chairwoman for the Johnson City Mayne Williams Public Library.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, Carl A. Jones Jr., former publisher of Carl A. Jones Newspapers; one brother and two sisters.
Mrs. Aline Black Coleman
Mrs. Aline Black Coleman, 90, died April 16, 2003.
She was born
September 6, 1912 in the Providence Community of Butler, Alabama. She was the eldest of eight children born
to Ervin Napoleon (Polen) Black and Mollie Stinson Black. After several years of marriage, Ms. Coleman moved to Conecuh County, Alabama, then moved to Mobile, Ala. in 1963. In 1979 she moved to Newnan, Ga. to be near her daughter where she resided until her death.
Mrs. Coleman worked ten years as a cachier for Eckerd Drugs. At that point she retired and spent her time visiting firends and family. Her family describes her as very active until the age of 80 when Alzheimer's Disease was diagnosed. She was physically strong until recently when she suffered a stroke.
Mrs. Coleman was widowed in 1960, having been married
to Lewis James Coleman. She was also preceded in death by two of her sons, John L. Coleman and Earl Leon Coleman; sister, Vera Black Pruett; two brothers, Marvin Black and Bill Black; granddaughter Diane Coleman; and grandson Roderick Coleman.
Surviving are daughter, Bonnie Coleman Bragg and Mrs. Bragg's husband John Bragg of Newnan, Ga.; son, Douglas Coleman of Mobile, Ala.; three sisters, Velma Black Jones of Shelby, Ala., Leomia Black Vickery of Andalusia, Ala., and Viona Black Sellers (husband, Charlle Sellers) of Mobile, Ala.; brother, Ervin Black (wife, Jo Black) of Orlando, Fla. Other survivors are four sisters-in-law, Emogene Coleman of Mobile, Ala., Lucile Black of Fayetteville, N.C., Eileen Coleman of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Opal Coleman of Pensacola, Fla.; borther-in-law, Buddy Baldwin of Pensacola, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Visitation is noon to 2 p.m. Friday, April 18 at Johnson Funeral Home in Georgiana, Ala.

Ms. Donna Sue Loner, 47, of Highway 5 W., Whitesburg, Ga., died Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at Higgins General Hospital.
She was born
April 28, 1955 in Coweta County to Helen Henry Holloway and the late W. A. Holloway. Ms. Loner was a member of the Rotherwood Methodist Church; and before her health failed she was a winder operator at Wellington Mills.
Surviving are her mother, Helen Holloway; children, Jennifer and Chris Bailey of Carrollton and Amy and Jeffre Coggin of Newnan; three sisters, Judy and Tommy Chandler of Tallapoosa, Tessie Richardson of Carrollton, and Pat Madden of Whitesburg; four brothers, Danny and Regina Holloway of Bremen, Billy Holloway of Carrollton, Terry and LaJuana Holloway of Roanoke, AL, and Timmy and Brenda Holloway of Panama City, FL; three grandchildren, Dylan, Lauren and Preston Bailey of Carrollton; niece, Spring Holloway as well as several other nieces and nephews. A funeral will be Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m. at Martin and Hightower West Center Street Chapel in Carrollton with Rev. Jimmy Henry and Rev. Matt Moore officiating. Music will be rendered by Rev. Jimmy Henry, Eva Henry and Jason Henry.

Mrs. McCullough was born
January 30, 1931 in LaGrange, daughter of the late Grady and Percy Cooper Garrett. A retired seamstress, she lived in Sharpsburg most of her life, was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and was the wife of the late Melvin McCullough Jr.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and John Harrison of Sharpsburg; three granddaughters, Teresa Eason of Sharpsburg, Tammy Pierce of Palmetto, and Tara Callaway of Newnan; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Robert Hoover Morris Sr., 73, of Newnan, Ga., died April 16, 2003.
He was born
May 30, 1929, in Manning, South Carolina, son of Martin Azro and Cleo Ann Tennet Morris.
He worked as a security guard supervisor with the Nabisco Company. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Morris.

Mrs. Laura Louise Melson Newell died Monday, April 14, 2003 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga.
A funeral will be Friday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at Bethel Heard Baptist Church, 2484 Charlie B. Johnson Road, Franklin, Ga. Rev. Clinton Melson, pastor, Rev. Willie L. Geter officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church from noon until the hour of the service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 5-7 p.m.
On the day of the service the family will assemble at 7 Beverly Drive at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be nephews and cousins. Flower ladies will be nieces.
Mrs. Newell was born
July 11, 1961 at Heard County Memorial Hospital. She was the ninth of eleven children born
to Clinton and Sarah Melson. She attended public schools in Coweta County and was a 1979 graduate of Newnan High School. She was very smart academically and received a full scholarship to Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where she planned to major in mass communication. The family used to tease her about being the next "Monica Kaufman." Instead of completing her degree, Laura decided to marry and start a family. She married
Ricky Newell in 1980 and they had three children. Laura loved to read, you could always find her with a book in her hand, or one nearby. This hobby was fostered during her high school years as she worked in the school's library. After traveling with her husband during his military career, they returned to settle in Newnan. Laura again found her niche as she went to work for the Newnan-Coweta Public Library. She loved her job and even talked about "when I go back to work" during some of her most recent hospital stays. Laura was an active member in her church where she served with the youth department, was a member of the choir and served as treasurer of the adult choir. Laura fought a long hard battle.
She was preceded in death by her brother, James Melson.
Surviving are three children, Tori, Erica and Chris; grandchildren, Amaya, Darius, Miracle; step-son, Ken Newell; parents, Rev. and Mrs. Clinton Melson; eight sisters, Minister Maggie Murphy, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus (Sarah) Keith, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy (Jeanie) Wilburn, New York, Mr. and Mrs. James (Annie) Keith, Mrs. Carrie Boxley, Maryland, Ms. Betty Melson, Ms. Barbara Melson, Ms. Lucinda Melson; brother, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony (Gwen) Melson; sister-in-law, Lavon S. Mrs. Darlene Threlkeld Parmer, 53, of Cedartown, Ga., died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at her home.

July 21, 1949 in Hogansville, daughter of the late Clarence and Lavesker Faulkner Threlkeld. A homemaker, she had lived in Cedartown since 1985.
Surviving are husband, Benny C. Parmer of Cedartown; daughter, Melisa R. Marcos of Rome; sister, Dianne Canup of Cartersville; four grandchildren, Christopher David Camacho, Catherine Denise Camocho, Jonathan Daniel Marcos, and Darlene Lavesker Marcos.

Mr. Robert Sanford Payne
Mr. Robert Sanford Payne, 86, of Jim Starr Road, Newnan, Ga., died at home Tuesday, April 15, 2003, following a short illness.
Known as Sanford or Bob, Mr. Payne had lived in Newnan for 32 years after leaving Atlanta with his wife, Mary Frances. Together they operated a bumper crop farm in the Roscoe community and were mainstays at the vegetable and fruit market at the old Coweta County fairgrounds on Temple Avenue in Newnan each summer for the past 25 years.
Mr. Payne, a native of Montgomery County, Tenn., was a Delta Airlines Pioneer and retired from there in 1979 after working as a mechanic and inspector for 31 years.
A veteran of World War II, Mr. Payne served in what was then known as the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a veteran of many areas of Christian service as well, some of which are the Fellowship of Christian Airline Personnel, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Georgia Baptist Lay Renewal, and Macedonia Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and former director of many activities there.
Surviving besides his wife of 57 years are daughter, Mary Ann Denney and husband Gerald of Newnan; grandsons who were like sons to him, Brad West and wife Stephanie, Ryan West and wife Scarlet; great-grandchildren, Cody, Hailey and Abbie West, all of Newnan. Three sisters also survivie, Idella Richardson of Crossville, Tenn., Kathryn Frey and Ernestine Lehto of Gallatin, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17 at McKoon Funeral home with burial in Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan.

Miss Sarah Summers Snow
Miss Sarah Summers Snow, 100, died April 16, 2003.
She was born
August 13, 1902 in Troup County, daughter of George B. and Olive Summers Snow. She was a resident of Newnan, Ga., and formerly of Decatur. She was a member of Clairmont Hills Baptist Church and a charter member of the Morningside Baptist Church. She retired after 35 years of service with the Penn Mutual Insurance Company. She graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta. After high school she graduated from business school as well. She was a member of the Euzelian Club. She spent her adult life in the Decatur area.
She is survived by cousins, Virginia and Elmo Harrell of Newnan and Jan and Bobby Boal of Senoia, as well as other cousins.
A funeral will be at graveside Saturday, April 19, at 11 a.m. at Westview Cemetery
in Atlanta. The family will assemble at the main gate of the Cemetery prior to the service.

Mrs. Faye Richardson Whitley, 72, of Princeton, Alabama, died Monday, April 14, 2003 at her home.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Larry Hogan will officiate, and burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery
in Hogansville.
Born January 22, 1931 in Hogansville, Mrs. Whitley was the daughter of the late Dove and Mattie Oliver Richardson. She was a graduate of Indian River Community College and St. Leo's College and was a retired public health nurse. A former resident of Cedartown and Rockmart, she lived in Princeton for two years and attended Princeton United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas G. Whitley of Princeton; one daughter and son-in-law, Alana and Dwight Todd of Hogansville; two sons, Thomas Whitley Jr. and his wife, Tracy of Memphis, Tenn., and Drew Whitley of Chattanooga, Tenn.; one step-daughter, Sandra Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.; one step-son, Buddy Whitley and his wife, Linda, of LaGrange; two grandchildren, Beth Todd, and Dale and Jessica Todd; one great-grandchild, Autumn Todd; and four step-grandchildren, Whit Abel, Haley Abel, Tyson Whitley, and Leslie Battle.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Dale Hackney.
