Rev. Robert Welcome Sutton Sr.
Rev. Robert Welcome Sutton Sr., long-time minister in the Newnan-Coweta area, died Sunday, January 19, 2003 at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.
A funeral will be Sunday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Newnan, 15 West Washington Street. Those officiating include Dr. Gene Tyre, pastor, Bishop L. Scott Allen, eulogist, assisted by Rev. Robert Melson, Rev. Joe P. Geter, Rev. Kenny Johnson, Rev. Johnny Coleman, Rev. J. W. Russell Sr., Rev. Edward J. Best, Rev. McAllister Hollins, Rev. Willie Johnson, Rev. J. C. Neal, Rev. J. L. Hendricks, Rev. Felton James.
Rev. Sutton's remains will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in Powell Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be area ministers, and the ministers' wives will serve as flower ladies.
The family will receive friends at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home Inc. Saturday, Jan. 25 from 6-8 p.m. The cortege will assemble on the day of the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffery Sutton, 74 Sutton Drive, Newnan, Ga. at 1 p.m.
Even before he was born, Rev. Sutton's mother often said that he would be a special child. She knew before he did that his life would be one with a special mission. She always felt that he would one day be a preacher.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Amanda Beatles Sutton.
He married
the former Elizabeth Huling Sutton on June 2, 1929. They had seven children, three of whom preceded him in death, including James Sutton and Robert Sutton Jr.
His early childhood education was in the public schools of Newnan and Coweta County and in his Christian home. As a teenager, his love for gospel songs and singing led him to form a group with others who shared his enthusiasm. He later became a leader of a Prayer Band formed in Newnan. He was converted in 1934 at the age of 19. He answered the call to preach in 1935. Also, he was given his first church in 1936. He attended the Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Later he attended Clark Atlanta College and Gammon Theological Seminary, both of Atlanta. He was ordained Deacon in 1950 and his Elder Ordination was two years later in 1952. He worked several jobs in the Newnan area and his love for children allowed him to drive a bus for the Coweta County School System for 25 years. He was on the Board of Directors at Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City, and he was on the Board of Nomination at the Coweta-Fayette EMC. In 2000 he was nominated preacher of the year by a local social club.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Sutton; children, Bernice Poythress, Annie (Felton) Ransby, David (Lizzie Mae) Sutton, Jeffery (Janice) Sutton; 22 grandchildren (three others preceded him in death), 50 great-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Willie (Mattie Mae) Huling and Leonard (Velma) Huling; sister-in-law, Rose Vanlowe; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ila Stitcher Brown
Mrs. Ila Stitcher Brown, 86, of Vidalia, Ga., died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 in the Bethany Nursing Home of Vidalia after an extended illness.
Mrs. Brown was born
September 28, 1916 in Douglas County, Ga. She had resided in Newnan, Ga. most of her life, moving to Vidalia in 1989. She was a resident of Bethany Nursing Home since 1991. She was a beautician for many years, and served as pianist in her church for more than 40 years. She was a member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Vidalia. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene L. Brown, in 2000.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Barry Eugene and Ellen Reece Brown of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Leesa Brown Coursey and Jay Richardson Coursey of Mt. Vernon, Kimberly Brown Moxley and Derik Olan Moxley of Fortson, Jason Reece Brown and Kathy Hamilton Brown of Hamilton; six great-grandchildren, Morgan Beasley, Logan Coursey, Kaitlyn Moxley, Deidre Moxley, Joe Coursey and John Moxley.
The Brown family was receiving friends at the Ronnie L. Stewart Family Funeral Service in Vidalia on Wednesday evening beginning 6 p.m.
On Thursday, Jan. 23, the remains will be taken to McKoon Funeral Home in Newnan, Ga. for visitation on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m.
A funeral for Mrs. Brown will be held in the McKoon chapel in Newnan Friday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Doug Bearden officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Mrs. Sara Ward Byers, 75, of Old Newnan Road, Whitesburg, Ga., died Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at her residence.

January 3, 1928 in Georgia.

Mrs. Grace Lovett O'Kelley, 89, of Athens, Ga., formerly of Talladega, Ala., died January 21, 2003 at Athens Heritage Home in Athens, Ga.

Master Patrick James Scicchitano died January 21, 2003 at Children's Health Care of Atlanta.
He was the son of James and Natalie Scicchitano of Newnan. Little Patrick was born
December 18, 2002.

March 25, 1953 to Mrs. Julia Mae Bridges and the late Mr. Bryant Warner Sr. in Meriwther County, Luthersville, Ga. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age. He was educated in the Meriwether and Coweta school systems.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Dr. Paul Nelson Warner and Mr. Joe Leamon Warner.
Surviving are his wife, Ethel Gene Warner; daughter, Dendric Warner; granddaughter, Ethan Fannin; mother, Julia M. Mr. Billy Joe Williamson, 39, of Hogansville, Ga., died Monday, January 20, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange, Ga.
A funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Dalton Hammock will officiate, and burial will be in Meadoway Gardens in LaGrange.

July 10, 1963, and was a lifelong resident of Troup County. He was a graduate of Hogansville High School, was employed at Williamson Auto Parts in Hogansville, and was a member of The Pentecostal Church in LaGrange.
Surviving are his fiance, Karen Neese of Hogansville; daughter, Kelly Jo Williamson of Hogansville; parents, Billy and Kathryn Williamson, also of Hogansville; sister, Carol Williamson of Anniston, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Lamar and Sabrina Williamson of Hogansville; niece, Kendall Brem; two nephews, Will Williamson and Hunter Williamson.

Mrs. Wilma Ruth Wilson, 83, of Newnan, Ga., died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at LaFayette Nursing and Rehab.
She was born
March 6, 1919 in Newnan, Ga., daughter of the late William Stallings and the late Annie (Harper) Stallings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Euell B. Wilson; as well as by four sisters and two brothers.
She was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was retired from food service at Elm Street School in Newnan.
Surviving are two daughters, Pat Bernhard of Newnan, Ga. and husband Wilson, and Linda Wilson Hopkins of Greenville, S.C. and husband Gerald; 15 grandchildren.
The family was receiving friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16.

Mrs. Nellie Christine Whitten Brown
Mrs. Nellie Christine "Polly" Whitten Brown, 87, of Newnan, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at LaFayette Nursing and Rehab in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Brown was the daughter of the late Joel Whitten and the late Elvie Camp Whitten. She retired from Bibb Manufacturing and was a member of Welcome Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown was the widow of Frank L. Brown, who died in 1975.
A funeral will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of McKoon Funeral Home. The Revs. Julian Gordy and David Dixon will officiate, and burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Pearl Veal Knott, 60, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale.
Mrs. Knott was born
Sept. 14, 1942, in Troup County. She had lived in Clayton County for the past 30 years and was retired from Tara Florist in Jonesboro. She was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Riverdale.
Mrs. Knott was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Knott, and her father, Charlie Jeffie Veal.

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Chapman, 85,of Sharpsburg, died Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at Dogwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fairburn, Ga.
Mrs. Chapman was a retired nursing assistant and a member of Happy Valley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Aubrey Chapman.
Surviving are children, Glynice Mann, Frankie Chapman and Jackie Chapman; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Rev. Charles Lamb Moody Jr.
Rev. Charles Lamb Moody Jr., 78, of Zebulon, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 at the Christian Ministries Hospice in Griffin, Ga.
He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Griffin. Rev. Moody was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II, where he was a member fo the 630th Tank Destroyer Battalion and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He received his Bachelor's, Master's and Honorary Doctorate degrees from Emmanuel Bible College and Seminary. He was the pastor of County Line Baptist Church in Covington for 22 years. Rev. Moody moved to Zebulon and opened Moody Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in 1980. He served two terms as Pike County Coroner and was a former member of the Pike County Lions Club and the Milby Medical Center Board of Directors. In recent years he was interim minister at numerous churhces in Pike County and was a speaker for the "Voices of Veterans," where he proudly spoke to audiences about his service in the military. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lamb Moody Sr. and Mary Beulah Morris Moody; a sister, Kate Moody White, all who were from Covington, and his wife, Ruby Elizabeth (Betty) Davis Moody.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Terry Moody and Judy Moody, Michael Ted Moody Sr. and Elaine Moody, Terrell Arthur Moody and Sherri Moody, all of Zebulon; daughter and son-in-law, Becky Moody Ammons and George Ammons of Warner Robins; grandchildren and their spouses, Susan Moody Bailey and Scott Bailey of Griffin, Charles Terry (Chip) Moody II and Shondi Moody of Griffin, Joy Moody Parker and Bert Parker of Lavergne, TN; Meredith Moody Maddox and Billy Maddox of Zebulon, Michael Ted Moody Jr. of Zebulon, Lori Peugh Newberry and Tod Newberry of Warner Robins, Linda Peugh Adkins and Mark Adkins of Danville, VA, Lynett Peugh Woodruff and Ken Woodruff of Warner Robins, Raeann Moody, Lindsey Moody and Max Moody, all of Zebulon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hudson and Frankie Moody of Covington, John and Eva Moody of Kennesaw, Dwight and Peggy Moody of Newnan and Bobby and Sue Moody of Marietta; sisters and a brother-in-law, Isabel and Morton of Conyers and Gwen and Red Payne of Snellville; fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be Sunday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home with Rev. John Moody officiating. Burial will be in Moody Memorial Gardens.
Friends may visit the family from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 at the funeral home.
