Mrs. Eva Rooker Meadows
Mrs. Eva Rooker Meadows, 79, of Grantville, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at the home of her granddaughter in Grantville.

Mrs. Meadows was born March 13, 1924, in Alabama, to the late John and Eula Mae Dees Rooker. She lived in Coweta County most of her life, was a member of Miracle Tabernacle Worship Center in Newnan, and retired from the West Point Pepperell Manufacturing Company in Grantville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, ZD Meadows.

A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003 in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Rev. Jimmie L. Willis will officiate, and burial will be in the Grantville City Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dwayne Digsby, Timothy Digsby, Jeffery Arrington, Chris Lovelace, Brett Fields, Justin Smith, Zachary Digsby, and Christopher DeLoach.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Stanley Arrington, Nancy and Ronnie Hubbard, and Joan and Gerald Howington, all of Grantville; sister Dorothy Smith of Gainesville; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Albert Mixon, 66, of Fairburn, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003.

Mr. Mixon was born April 27, 1937, in Fulton County.

A funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in the chapel of Parrott Funeral Home. Minister Ross Anderson officiated.

Mrs. Mina L. Smith, 93, of Palmetto, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 25, 1909, in Douglas County.

A grave-side service was held Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Holly Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Ralph Bobo officiated. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Southwest Christina Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City GA, 30291.

Mrs. Gussie E. White, 86, of Union City, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003.

Mrs. White was born April 4, 1917, in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. White, and her daughter, Regina Chastain.

A funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Southwest Christian Church in East Point. The Revs. Jim Dyer and Thom Miller officiated, and burial was in Crestlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Larry Wayne Faulkner
Mr. Larry Wayne Faulkner, 52, of Luthersville, Ga., died at his home Friday, Aug. 29, 2003.

Mr. Faulkner was born in Newnan, Ga., to Wayne and Mary Faulkner and spent most of his life in the Newnan area. In 1969, after high school, Mr. Faulkner joined the Army and trained as a Combat Infantry Soldier, specializing in light weapons. As a corporal serving in Vietnam, Mr. Faulkner received the Distinguished Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars and two Overseas Bars, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After Vietnam, he returned to Newnan and was employed by State Wide Aluminum in Newnan. Mr. Faulkner loved tinkering with his truck and playing country music on his guitar.

His mother, Mary Frances Higginbotham and a brother, Danny James Faulkner, preceded Mr. Faulkner in death.

Surviving are father and stepmother, Wayne Edward and Azzie Lee Faulkner; son, Michael Faulkner and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Kathy Presley and her husband, Shane; brother, Steve Ray Faulkner; two sisters, Judy Cantrell and Debbie Green; stepbrothers, Denver Kittles, Robert Kittles and Frankie Kittles; four stepsisters, Judy Wainright and Dinah Costley, Louise Noles and Sarah Allen; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

The family was receiving friends at Jones Funeral Home 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.

A funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Shannon officiating. Burial will be in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Seale, Alabama.

Mr. William O. "Pete" Garrett Jr., 69, of LaGrange, Ga., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral home in Hogansvile. The Rev. James Moon will officiate, and burial will be in Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

Born Nov. 10, 1933, in Troup County, Ga., Mr. Garrett was son of the late William and Claudie Wynn Garrett. He lived in Troup County all of his life, was a member of the Baptist Church, and retired from the City of LaGrange Pollution Control Dept. after 30 years of service.

Surviving are three sisters and their husbands, Ruth and Don Ford of LaGrange, Faye and Hoyt Rushton of Hogansville, and Cathryn and Edwin Busbee of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Connie Garrett of Hogansville and Coleman Garrett of Newnan; a number of nieces and nephews.

His wife, Rachel Bowles Garrett, preceded him in death.

Mr. Jimmy E. Kennedy Sr.
Mr. Jimmy E. Kennedy Sr., 63, of Villa Rica, Ga., died Aug. 31, 2003 in Atlanta, Ga.

He was born in Trion, Ga. Nov. 8, 1939. He was an administrative assistant for the Veterans Administration and served in the U.S. Navy.

A funeral will be at Beulah Baptist Church Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at 2 p.m. The remains will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Pastor David Couch and Rev. Bruce Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Pitts Cemetery in Moreland, Ga.

Visitation was at McKoon Funeral Home Tuesday, Sept. 2 from 6-8 p.m.

Surviving are wife, Patricia Kennedy; son, Jimmy Kennedy Jr. of Villa Rica, Ga.; daughter, Terri (Kennedy) Bond of Stafford, VA and formerly of Georgia; brother, Clyde Kennedy of Waco, TX; grandchildren, Meggan Bond, Shelli Bond, Hannah Kennedy and Austin Kennedy.

Mr. Robert Parham Jr. of Atlanta will be remembered at funeral services Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Newnan.

Rev. J. W. Gibbons will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Surviving are a devoted friend, Ms. Sandra F. Smith; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo (Ruby) Jackson; Ms. Doris Coleman, Ms. Shirley Gates, Ms. Virginia Sims; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. James C. Parham, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Parham; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

The remains will be placed in state at 12:30 p.m.

Mrs. Susie Wallace
Mrs. Susie Wallace, 78, of Stockbridge, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003 at her home after an extended illness.

Mrs. Wallace was born in Smith County, Mississippi in 1924 to Napoleon and Oma Jones. During World War II she worked in Mobile, Alabama, as a "Rosie the Riveter" in Brookley Field at an airplane manufacturing plant. It was there that she met her husband. Following her husband's career in the airline industry, they moved to the Atlanta area in 1959. After Mr. Wallace's demise, she moved to Stockbridge to live with her daughter, Mary. Although Mrs. Wallace's interest in life was her family, she worked for and retired from Richway Department Store. She was a member of the Fayetteville Church of Christ. She was a kind and loving grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Mr. Paul M. Wallace.

Surviving are son, Mr. Mark Wallace and his wife Debbie of McDonough; three daughters, Ruth Dykes and her husband Clint of Valdosta, Mary Clark and her husband James of Stockbridge, and Bonnie Maddox of Roswell; sister, Grace Barr of Jackson, Miss.; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

A funeral will be at graveside at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Sherwood Memorial Park on Tara Boulevard in Jonesboro, Ga. Ministers Virgil Richie and Mike McCullough will officiate.

Survivors include his father Mr. Edward Wayne Faulkner and step-mother Azzie; a son Mr. Michael Faulkner and his wife Jennifer; a daughter Kathy Presley and her husband Shane; two brothers Steve and Jeff Faulkner; two sisters Judy and Debbie Faulkner all of Newnan; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

Mr. Cecil F. Stephens
Mr. Cecil F. Stephens of College Park, Ga. died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at Southern Regional Hospital.

Mr. Stephens was born Aug. 5, 1936 in Fulton County to the late Carl Otis and Laura Stark Stephens. He worked for Allied Cleaning Company.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003 at the Higgins Hillcrest Chapel. Interment will be at College Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 1 after 2 p.m. and there will be open visitation Tuesday.

Survivors include his wife Jean Stephens of College Park; daughter and son in-law William and Lisa Harbuck, Jr.; three step-children; a friend like a brother Mr. and Mrs. Clyde and Geraldine Chastain; and a grandchild Kayla Brooke Harbuck.

Mr. Chester Eugene Williams of Newnan, Ga., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003 at his home.

Mr. Williams was born Oct. 17, 1924 in Russell County, Ala. to the late Charlie and Exa Williams. He was a veteran of the Navy and worked for the Bonnell Company as a machine operator.

He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Williams in 1971.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 at the Higgins Hillcrest Chapel with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Sept. 1 from 6-8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Michael Williams, Mitchell Williams, Todd McClain, Stevie Cheatwood, Lee Baldwin and Michael Wall.

Survivors include his wife Beatrice Williams of Newnan; daughters Dianne Cheatwood and her husband Jim of Newnan, and Martha Williams of Newnan; brothers Harold Williams, Charlie Williams, Jr., and Ray Williams, all of Alabama; sisters Mary Oakes, Barbara Stewart and Helen Brown, all of Alabama; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Master Devin Thomas Abercrombie of Newnan died Monday, January 27, 2003 at Southern Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery Saturday, Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. The family will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m.

Surviving are his loving and devoted parents Mr. and Mrs. Darren (Denise) Abercrombie and twin brother Donavin of Newnan; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Dorothy) E. Hill of Moreland, Ga.; Mr. and Dr. Thomas (Delnta) Abercrombie of Brooklyn, NY; Ms. Barbara Jean Neal of Brooklyn, NY.; great-grandmothers, Ms. Lucretia Hill of Moreland, Ga., Ms. Louvater McGruder of Luthersville, Ga., Ms. Deloris Hunter of Brooklyn, NY; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Emma Reed of Atlanta, Ga.

Mrs. Lucrete York Jackson, 89, of Atlanta, Ga., died Wednesday, January 29, 2003 at the Fountainview Center in Atlanta.

A funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at graveside at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in the Rocky Mount Community of Meriwether County, with Dr. Billy Burks officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 11 a.m. to 1 p..m. Saturday.

Mrs. Jackson was born September 13, 1913 in Meriwether County, daughter of the late Ernest Alonza York and the late Eunice Chambless York. She had lived in Atlanta for more than 60 years, was a retired beautician, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are son, William C. Jackson of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Ernestine McCurdy of Warm Springs and Miss Jeraldine York of Dunedin, Fla.

Mr. George Reid Sr. died Monday, January 27, 2003 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point, Ga.

A funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Highway 16, Sharpsburg, Ga., with Rev. Ronald Groomes, pastor, assisted by Elder Alonzo Penson, Rev. J. T Coleman, Pastor Warren L. Henry Sr.

Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from noon until the hour of the service. Pallbearers will be nephews, Harold Simmons, Wayne Simmons, Toby Domineck, Marvin Domineck, Christopher Reeves, John Alvin Smith, Jeffery Patterson. Flower ladies will be Tiffany Brittian, Darcie Simmons, Donna Simmons, Keisha Simmons, Monica Simmons, Lynn Roberts, Pat Domineck.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7-8 p.m.

On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at 620 Clearwater Road, Sharpsburg, Ga. at 12:30 p.m.

Mr. Reid was born May 20, 1922 to the late Mr. Elmes and Ophelia Feriby-Reid. He joined the Summer Hill Baptist Church at an early age. He served there until his marriage to Catherine Crowder. They had four sons and one daughter. He was a retiree of Georgia Power Company. He joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was a deacon and served faithfully until his illness.

His wife and son, James Park Reid, preceded him in death.

Surviving are three sons, George E. Reid Jr., William C. Reid and Edward L. Reid; daughter, Vergia K. Hayes; son-in-law, Bobby L. Hayes; two daughters-in-law, Evelyn Reid and Grace Reid; one sister-in-law, Ethel Clara Glenn of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Christel and Steven Hayes, Arjohnique Haney, Catrina Reid and Jocelyn D. Reid (Gloria Smith) and his devoted faithful neice, Doris Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Ellen Ruth Simmons, 77, of Olin Lane, Grantville, Ga., died Sunday, January 26, 2003.

A funeral will be Friday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. at the Thrash and Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lowinston Jackson will officiate, and burial will be in The Camp Ground Cemetery.

Mrs. Simmons was born March 30, 1925 in Meriwether County, Greenville, Ga., to Gilbert Cousins and Lucille McGlaughlin Cousins. She attended the Meriwether County Public Schools. She was married to Henry Simmons.

She joined White Plains Methodist Church in St. Mark at an early age, where she served as an usher. In 1953 she moved to Homestead, Florida, where she joined Greater New Mount Zion AME Church under the pastorage of Rev. Clarence Bess. Sister Simmons was a devoted church member who loved the Lord and her church family.

Surviving are daughter, Jacqueline (Louis) Jackson of Luthersville, Ga.; son, Jeffery (Shierl) Marshall of Washington , D.C.; two God children, Anthony and Tasha; two sisters, Agnes Colton of Greenville, Ga. and Janice White of Atlanta, Ga.; brother, Robert Cousin of Hogansville, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; one sister-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Arthur Lee Walker died Saturday, January 25, 2003 at his residence.

A funeral will be Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church on Smokey Road, Newnan, Ga. with Rev. J. C. Neal, pastor eulogist, assisted by Rev. Willie L. Geter, Rev. Prez Cochran, Elder Don Cochran and Rev. Eugene Florence,

The remains will lie in state at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be in the Ballard Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Flower Ladies will be granddaughters. On the day of the service the cortege will assemble at the residence at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7-8 p.m.

Mr. Walker was born March 27, 1941, to Willie Lee and Essie Mae Walker in Coweta County. He was employed by Vulcan Material for 18 years where he acquired the nickname "B-Bop."

Surviving are wife, Shirley Walker; seven children, Willie Authur Walker (Brenda) of Colton, California, Daniel Lee Walker (Atlanta, Ga.), Flint Walker (Audrey) Carrollton, Ga., Walter Lee Prather (Mary), Robin Stegall, both of Newnan, Ga., Betty Walker-Farley of Carrollton, Ga., Rita Jackson of Newnan; sister, Minnie B. Ellington; brother, Willie Robert Walker, brother of Newnan; mother-in-law, Venetter Snoween (Atlanta); father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce (Daisy) Stegall of Newnan; three sisters-in-law of Atlanta; three brothers-in-law of Newnan; 42 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. W. L. Wilson, 70, of Newnan, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003 at Newnan Hospital West.

Mr. Wilson was born in Carroll County, Ga. and was the son of the late W. L. Wilson Sr. and Naomi Adams. He worked for the City of Newnan in the sanitation department.

Surviving are his wife, Julia Wilson of Newnan; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Betty Wilson of Newnan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mozelle and Junior Patterson and Betty and Thomas Musick, all of Newnan.

The family will receive friends and relatives Thursday, Jan. 30 at McKoon Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. in the McKoon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Arrington and Rev. Doug Bearden officiating.

Pallbearers will be Harold Wilson, Tom Reese, Keith Harris, Michael Musick, Tommy Musick and Joey Musick.
