Jack McFarland Peebles
Jack McFarland Peebles, age 88, of Flippen, Georgia, died Thursday, August 18, 2005. Mr. Peebles was born
Sunday, November 12, 1916, the last surviving child of Hughey I. and Annie Elizabeth McFarland Peebles. He lived his entire life in Henry County, on the Peebles homeplace in Flippen. In addition
to farming, he retired after 25 years from Ford Motor Company in Hapeville. He was a lifelong member of Flippen First United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Navy and was a 50-year member of Fraternal Lodge #37 in McDonough. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Floyd Peebles; and siblings, Marge Burch, Jeanette Adams, and Frank Peebles.
He is survived by his sister-in-law, Muriel Peebles of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, August 21 at Flippen First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Interment Flippen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Flippen First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3707 Jodeco Road, McDonough, Georgia, 30253. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sarah Ruth Smith Harris
Sarah Ruth Smith Harris, age 62, of McDonough, Georgia died Friday, August 19, 2005. Mrs. Harris was born
Thursday, July 22, 1943 in Henry County, the daughter of the late Margaret Ruth Gleaton Smith and Ralph Lamar Smith. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed her family and friends, and was known for being devoted and dependable at work and home. She was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Elaine Smith; and a brother, Ralph Eugene Smith.
She is survived by her husband, George A. Harris, Sr. of McDonough; daughter, Kimberly E. Harris of McDonough; stepsons, Travis Harris of Greenville, South Carolina, and George A. Harris Jr., of Spartanburg; brother, Harold Smith of West Jefferson, North Carolina; sister, Christine S. Jarrett of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Billy Murphy of McDonough, Lindsey Harris of Greenville, South Carolina, Christopher Harris and Nathaniel Harris of Spartanburg.
Services were held Monday, August 22 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Dr. John W. Moody officiating. Interment Ozias Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
John Stephen Ogletree
John Stephen “Steve” Ogletree, age 53, of Tucker, Georgia died Saturday, August 20, 2005. Mr. Ogletree was born
in Atlanta, the son of the late John Pruitt and Jacqueline Faye Reed Ogletree. He loved to play golf, drive his Corvette, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He lived life to the fullest each and everyday. He was a very sucessful business man and never met a stranger. He also loved his family unconditionally.
He is survived by his son, John Alan Ogletree of Hermosa Beach, California; daughter, Heidi Anne Ogletree; brother, Timothy Carl (Melissa) Ogletree, all of McDonough; niece, Jacqueline Christine Ogletree.
Services were held Wednesday, August 24 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Michael Mcullum officiating. Interment Camp Memorial Park. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Martha F. Conner
Martha F. Conner, age 77, of Reynolds, Georgia, formerly of Locust Grove, died Saturday, August 20, 2005. Mrs. Conner was born
Thursday, August 2, 1928 in Rockdale County, the daughter of the late Runnie and Uri Roebuck Farmer. She retired after 30 years with D.M. Weathery in Atlanta, and was a member of McDonough First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Conner, in 2003; and a son, Larry J. Conner, in 1970.
She is survived by her son, Ronald D. Conner of Reynolds; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Margaret Farmer of Conyers; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Elmo Greer of Barnesville, Julia and George Ivey of Alpharetta, sister-in-law, Pat Farmer of Snellville; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Tuesday, August 23, in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Mack Riley officiating. Interment Hillandale Memorial Park in Lithonia. Please make contributions to the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Conner. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Wilbur Lee Dunson Jr.
Wilbur Lee Dunson Jr., age 50, of McDonough, Georgia died Thursday, August 11, 2005. Mr. Dunson was born
Monday, November 1, 1954 in Fulton County. He graduated from Forest Park High School Class of ‘73’, was a member of the Bass Masters and an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed NASCAR, and his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Cheryl Dodson Dunson; and a sister, Sharon D. Marvin.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristen L. Dunson of McDon-ough; father, Wilbur Lee Dunson, Sr. of Rex; mother Barbara Dunson of Fayetteville; sister, Linda Allen and her husband David of Fayetteville; brother, Steven and Gladys Dunson of Stockbridge; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Sunday, August 14, in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Hugh Kirby officiating. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charles Edward Jackson
Charles Edward Jackson, age 70, of Sharpsburg, Georgia died Saturday, August 13, 2005. Mr. Jackson was born
Sunday, March 31, 1935 in Floyd County, the son of the late Frank and Dorothy Lenora Bennett Jackson. He had spent most of his life in Henry County and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Henry County. He was a United States Marine Corp veteran and a member of the American Legion. For forty years, he worked as a dock supervisor for GFA and Old Dominion Freight Lines. He worked with the Atlanta Constitution as a customer service representative from 1992 until his retirement in 2002. He was preceded in death by his father in August 1991 and his mother in July 1992.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Phillips Jackson, to whom he was married
August 30, 1985; sons, Brian Jackson of McDonough, Chuck Jackson of Stockbridge, and Chris Mashburn of McDonough; daughters, Cyndi Bowen of Newnan, and Angela Causey of Sharpsburg; brothers, Ronald Jackson of Tullahoma, Tennessee, Norman Jackson of Elmore, Alabama; sister, Christine Alred of Columbia, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, August 15 at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home, with Rev. Dallas Ken Gray and Rev. John Cromer officiating. Interment Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Laurence Emory Walker, Sr.
Laurence (Larry) Emory Walker Sr., age 78, of Stockbridge, Georgia, died Saturday, August 13, 2005. Mr. Walker was born
in Ohio, the son of the late Emory Laurence and Madge Lenore Woods Walker. He retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons with over 22 years service. Prior to this, he was a farmer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. The last ten years have been his most enjoyable, being able to spend time with his two grandsons in baseball and following Ohio State football. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Juel Stevens.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Walker of Stockbridge; sons and daughter-in-law, Larry E. Walker Jr. of Destin, Florida, and Tim L. and Lisa Walker of McDonough; brother, Gerald Rinehart of Greenfield, Ohio; grandsons, Chad and Cole Walker; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were handled through Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg, Ohio, 937-780-7841.
James Joseph Weber
James Joseph Weber, age 39, of Fayetteville, Georgia died Mon-day, August 15, 2005. Mr. Weber was born
in Bronx, New York to Carol Jean Anthony Weber and the late Peter Joseph Weber. He was employed as a technician specialist with Autowerks in Fayetteville. He was also preceded in death by his nephew, Anthony Nicolazzi, III in 2003.
He is survived by his mother; sisters, Jean Quinton, Linda Schneider; brother, Christopher Anthony Weber; grandmother, Mary Lupis; nieces, Dana Nicolazzi, Samantha Schneider, Jessica Schneider; nephew, Richard Peter Schneider.
Services were held Friday, August 19 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Mary Jane Mayfield
Mrs. Mary Jane Mayfield, age 93, of Griffin, Georgia, formerly of Locust Grove died Monday, August 15, 2005. Mrs. Mayfield was born
Wednesday, April 17, 1912 in Atlanta. the daughter of the late William Pritchard Smith and the late Sara Etta Mitchell Smith. She was a 1929 graduate of O’Keefe High School, was retired from Loveable Garment Company, was a member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church, where she was a cook for 17 years. She was also a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Mayfield, in 1966.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara Ann and David Bishop of Austin, Texas , Carolyn and David Lank of Lompoc, California; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Ella Mae Kimberly of Conyers, and Hannah Jacks of Jonesboro; nieces and nephews.
Services were held Thursday, August 18 at Locust Grove First Baptist Church, with Pastor Craig Bowers and Rev. Kenny Heath officiating. Interment Locust Grove Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Audrey Mae Hammett
Audrey Mae Hammett, age 75, of Stockbridge, Georgia died Wednesday, August 17, 2005. She was a member of North Henry Baptist Church in Stockbridge.
She is survived by her daughters, Kay Rush of Stockbridge, and Deborah Higley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Steve (Lynn) Rush of Stockbridge; sisters, Betty Young of St. Simons, and Jean Davis of Folkston; brothers, Woodrow Young of Harrison, Arkansas, and Dwey Young of Memphis, Tennessee; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, August 20 at Ward’s Fairview Chapel, with Pastor B.S. Cole officiating. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Ward’s Funeral Home Fairview Chapel in charge of arrangements.
James Elmer Denman
James Elmer Denman, age 63, of Stockbridge, Georgia died Thursday, August 4, 2005. Mr. Denman was born
Sunday, July 19, 1942 in Atlanta, the son of the late Gladys Lillian Kurts and Harry Adam Denman. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, served his country in the U.S. Army, and retired from Lucent Technology. He enjoyed his family, computers, and watching sports. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Harry Denman, Edwin Denman, Robert Eugene Denman and Gerald Denman.
He is survived by his brother, Albert Denman; sisters, Virginia Swinney, Edith Mathews and Regina Denman; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, August 6 at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Murphy officiating. Haisten Funeral Home, McDonough, 770-914-8833, in charge of arrangements.
