Don Carson, Sr.
Don Carson, Sr., age 56, of McDonough, Georgia died October 25, 2005. Mr. Carson was born
in Long Beach, California, the son of the late Donald Clifton and Rose Morcomb Dunghey Carson. He liked to play golf, fish, and attend Georgia Tech football games with his sons. He also enjoyed teaching his daughter his favorite sports. He was a graduate of the University of Alaska/Fairbanks where he attended on a basketball scholarship. He taught school for 32 years, most recently with the Clayton County School System. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Whiteneck Huff.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Carson of McDonough; children, Donald Arthur Carson, Jr., and Brendan Sheehan Car-son, both of Orlando, Florida, Sara Rose Carson of McDonough; mother, Rose Morcomb Carson of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.
Private services were held for the family. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made for his daughter, Sara Rose Carson, at the Washington Mutual Bank, N. McDonough Crossing, 53 Price Quarters Road, McDonough, Georgia, 30253. Yolanda M. Lopez
Yolanda M. Lopez, age 58, of Stockbridge, Georgia died October 25, 2005 at her residence. She was born
in Caguas, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Sergio and Faustina Martinez Marcano.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Lopez; children, Janette Soto, Jose J. Lopez, and Marisel Thomas, all of Stockbridge; sister, Nilsa Pizarro of Augusta; and grandchildren Felix, Sophie, Alex Lopez, Yolanda Soto, Michael and Giovanni Thomas.
Services were held October 27 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Dudley Rose officiating. Those who wish may sign the online guest registry at cannon-cleveland.com. Gregory Taylor
Gregory Taylor, age 60, of McDonough, Georgia died October 14, 2005. Mr. Taylor was born
in Pinehurst, North Carolina, the son of the late Lee C. and Gertrude Kelley Taylor. He was a loving husband and father, but most of all he loved his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Pe-Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Diane Taylor of McDonough; children, Greg Taylor, Jr. of Palm Beach, Florida, Christine Sullivan of New Jersey, Scott Hughes of McDonough, Brian Hughes of Davie, Florida, Vanessa Hughes of Pembroke Pines, Florida; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held October 17 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Dudley Rose officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Denise Miller
Denise Miller, age 53, of Hampton, Georgia died October 16, 2005. Mrs. Miller was born
in Fayetteville, North Carolina on January 12, 1952. She will leave a legacy to her faith and her will to live. She was a one of a kind lady. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Cole Smith; son, Baby Boy Miller; and father-in-law, Billy R. Miller, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Dusty Miller of Hampton; daughter, Angela Miller of McDonough; son, Billy Miller, III of Hampton; grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Miller of McDonough; father, Howard Greene of Washington ; mother-in-law, Connie Miller; several nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law.
Services were held October 18 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Dan Atkinson officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Jerry Wayne Minium
Jerry Wayne Minium, age 67, of McDonough, Georgia died October 17, 2005. Minium was born
in Huron, South Dakota, the son of Paul and Alice Werner Minium. He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended Foothill Junior College in Los Altos, California and San Jose State University in San Jose, California, graduating with distinction from both. He was a CPA, practicing for many years in California until his retirement and move to Georgia. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and an inspiration to his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents; his dear companion, Mary Minium of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, James and Louise Minium of Brooks; daughter and son-in-law, Kristine and David DeLisle of Menlo Park, California; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and David Rand of Huron, South Dakota; brother, Larry Ray Minium of Yuma, Arizona; grandchildren, Nicole Minium, Jessica Minium, James DeLisle, Joseph DeLisle, Ian DeLisle; and great-grandchild, Arias James Verduzco.
Services were held October 21 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with Pastor Ken Albright officiating. Interment Wolsey Cemetery
in Wolsey, South Dakota, with Welter Funeral Home handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Georgia Chapter, 455 Abernathy Road, NE, #210, Atlanta, Georgia, 30328. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Hubert Alexander Laney
Hubert Alexander “Henry” Laney, age 79, of Hampton, Georgia died October 18, 2005. Mr. Laney was born
January 22, 1926 in Atlanta, the son of the late Alene White and Hubert C. Laney. He retired from Georgia Power with 39 years of service. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #70 F&AM for 50 plus years, served in the Navy during WWII as a Boat Swain Mate on the USS Beaumont, and was a member of Berea Christian Church. He also enjoyed woodworking and boating.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dora Sandlin Laney; daughter, Alexis House and husband David of Hampton; son, Alex Laney and wife Lucy of Atlanta; grandchildren, Christopher Laney and wife Christina of Carrollton, Lori Laney of Atlanta, Sandra House of Griffin, Douglas House and wife Christal of Hampton; great grandchildren, Liam Laney, Courtney, Rhyon and Alexis House; sisters Janice Laney and Christy Hall of Douglasville.
Services were held October 20 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Gunnin officiating. Interment Berea Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Masonic Children’s Home, 1417 Nottingham Drive, Macon, Georgia, 31211 in memory of Mr. Laney. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Walter Curtis
Walter “Jack” Curtis, age 82, of McDonough, Georgia died October 19, 2005. Mr. Curtis was born
August 25, 1923 in Atlanta, the son of the late Odessa Pruitt and Henry Clayburn Curtis. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was retired after 43 years with MARTA.
He is survived by his wife, Faye C. Curtis; son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Sarah Mooney; granddaughter and husband, Amy and Derrick Mooney; grandson and wife, Craig and Hope Curtis; four great-grandchildren; seven stepchildren.
Services were held October 25 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment Chattanooga National Cemetery, with military honors. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Miranda Faith Hatfield
Miranda Faith Hatfield, age 5 months, of McDonough, Georgia died October 9, 2005. She was preceded in death by her great grandmother, Icey Blair Graham.
She is survived by her mother, Barbara Ann Franks Hatfield; siblings, Kristina Leigh Sattazahn, and Brandon Jack Hatfield; grandparents, Barbara Ann Presley of Meansville, Robert Barry Franks of Murphy, North Carolina, Barbara G. Keith of McDonough; great- grandparent, George Alton Duffee of Morrow; uncle, Robert Barry Franks, Jr. of McDonough; very close friend and cousin, Shelley Amanda (Michael) Scott.
Services were held October 13 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Dr. Bob Marsh officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Wade Hampton Turner, Jr.
Wade Hampton Turner, Jr., age 89, of Naples, Florida died October 10, 2005. Mr. Turner was born
March 20, 1916 in Henry County, the son of the late Daune George and Wade Hampton Turner, Sr. and was raised in McDonough. After graduating from high school, he began work in the furniture business for Rhodes Furniture. In 1967, he left Rhodes Furniture and moved to Naples where he started Robb & Stucky in 1985. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Naples, and a past president of the Better Business Bureau. He was a veteran of the Pacific Campaign of WWII having served proudly as a staff sergeant in the 20th U.S. Army Air
Force. He was always active in his children’s school activities, as well as Boy Scouts and band. He was an avid golfer, and he also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Coral Gables.
He is survived by his children; Wade H. Turner III, and Douglas (Sandra) Turner; sister, Jean Price; brother, Allen Turner; and granddaughter, Emily Turner.
Services were held October 17 at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
