Hoyt Lee Hobgood
Hoyt Lee Hobgood, age 72, of McDonough, Georgia died March 25, 2006. Mr. Hobgood was born
in Canton, the son of the late Sidney and Cleva Hasty Hobgood. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hampton and retired from the City of Atlanta Fire Department with over 27 years service.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Q. Hobgood; children, Mike (Tracy) Hobgood of McDonough, Kathy Palmer of Memphis, Tennessee, Saundra (Joe) Eason of Reidsville; stepchildren, Hal (Beth) Quinn of Huntsville, Alabama, Dr. Nancy (Dan) Lefever of Talking Rock, Vicky LaJesse of Hampton; siblings, Tom W. Hobgood of Loganville, Barbara Johnson of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held March 29 at Hampton First Baptist Church, with Dr. Terry Quick, and Rev. Buddy Perstrope officiating. Interment Eternal Hills Memory Gardens in Snellville. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
James O. Ingram
James O. Ingram, age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died March 25, 2006. Mr. Ingram was born
in Ball Ground, the son of the late James Gordon and Cordelia Nickelson Ingram. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger days and worked on rebuilding each of his sons a 1955 Chevy. Later in life he loved vegetable and flower gardening. He received several awards during his duty in the U.S. Army and several awards with the Atlanta Army Depot for suggestions that resulted in operation improvements. He was also preceded in death by his son Harry Ingram.
He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Debra) Ingram of McDonough, Olson (Barbara) Ingram of Stockbridge, James R. Ingram of McDonough; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Vera Bishop of Ball Ground, Opal Hales of Calhoun, Virginia Chapman of Canton, Hilma Worley of Cumming, Melba (Jerry) Hales of Chamblee, and Charlotte (Bill) Sosebee of Chamblee.
Services were held March 28 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Bob Reno officiating. Interment Kelley Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
J.W. Mason
J.W. Mason, age 80, of McDonough, Georgia died March 26, 2006. Mr. Mason was born
to the late Worthy B. and Annie Maude Moore Mason. He spent his days productively, repairing, restoring, buying, selling, and trading anything with a motor. He grew the best Silver Queen, field corn, and black-diamond watermelons in Henry County. He enjoyed bird hunting and fishing, especially with his grandkids. A loving father, grandfather and friend, he was always there when anyone needed a hand. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Mae Mason.
He is survived by his son, Randall (Susan) Mason of Locust Grove; daughter, Sandy Mason Sherwood of McDonough; grandchildren, Amy (Fred) Elrod, Blake (Nicole) Sherwood, and Kyle Sherwood, all of McDonough; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Allie, and Ryan Elrod and Dylan Sherwood; brothers, Pete Mason of Macon, Johnny (Mary) Mason of Stockbridge, Charles Mason of McDonough; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held March 28 at Sharon Baptist Church, with Rev. Gary Lewis and Rev. Al O’Quinn officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Donald Terry Kown
Donald Terry Kown, age 67, of Hampton, Georgia died March 27, 2006. Mr. Kown was born
March 18, 1939 in Fulton County, the son of the late Bertran Eugene and Mary Lou Missouri Austin Kown. He served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, and retired from Georgia Pacific after 20 years. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Griffin, and was a member of Lake Cindy Civic Club for 35 years, having become President in 2000. He was past president of the Henry County Chamber of Commerce in 1985, and he loved fishing, golfing, woodworking, and could play any musical instrument. He was preceded in death by siblings, David and Glen Kown and Emajean Parker and Betty Fain.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pat Kown of Hampton; son and fiancée, Bill Kown and Penny McCall of Hampton; grandchildren, Brandy and Christina Kown of Hampton, Christian McCall of Austell, Sierra Kown of Hampton; great granddaughter, Alyssa Kown of Hampton; brothers and sister in law, Richard Kown of Murphy, North Carolina, Jack and Janet Kown of Vero Beach, Florida; many nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 31 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Contributions may be made to Lake Cindy Civic Club, P.O. Box 701, Hampton, Georgia, 30228 in his memory. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Roy Melton Greer
Roy Melton Greer, age 76, of Locust Grove, Georgia died March 31, 2006. Mr. Greer was born
October 4, 1929 in Griffin, the son of the late Roy Thomas and Lucille Brown Greer. He graduated Hampton High School, served his country in the Georgia National Guard, retired from Delta Airlines, and was a lifelong member of Berea Christian Church. He visited Mt. Carmel Personal Care Home and Starcrest Nursing Home patients, delivering fruit, cakes and ice cream, always helping those in need. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Greer.
He is survived by his wife of over 30 years, Helen Steele Greer; son, Robert Thomas Greer of Hampton; daughter, April Martina Greer of Locust Grove; granddaughter, Chelsea Robyn Greer of Senoia; numerous cousins.
Services were held April 3 at Berea Christian Church in Hampton, with Rev. Michael Gunnin and Rev. Jerry Scweitzer officiating. Interment Berea Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Johnson Bible College, 7900 Johnson Dr., Knoxville, Tennessee, 37998-1001 or Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Dr., McDonough, Georgia, 30253 in memory of Mr. Greer. Grady Jackson Campbell
Grady Jackson Campbell, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia died March 31, 2006. Mr. Campbell was born
May 3, 1921 in Fulton County, the son of the late Myrtice Gordy and Barry Jackson Campbell. He retired from Watkins Service Company.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Ann Campbell of McDonough; daughter, Deborah Turner of Senoia; sister-in-law, Azalee Campbell of Stockbridge; seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Bernice Gardner Brown
Bernice Gardner Brown, age 89, of Locust Grove, Georgia died March 15, 2006. Mrs. Brown was born
May 17, 1916 in Locust Grove, the daughter of the late Lula Elizabeth Gaillard and Samuel Howell Gardner. She was a member of the Locust Grove First Baptist Church since 1929, where she served in all areas of the church. She received her teachers certificate from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, received her teachers degree from Bessie Tift College in Forsyth and her Master’s Degree from UGA. She was past president of the Locust Grove Women’s Club 1942 – 1943, 1946 – 1948, and 1972 – 1976 and a faithful member that was active in keeping the club going for years. She was a Locust Grove Historian and Citizen of the Year. She was a member of the Retired Teachers’ Association, Bridge Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Hospital Auxiliary, the first teacher in Henry County for Special Education, a leader in getting the Locust Grove Institute Building on the Historical Register and in getting the steeple replaced. She was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Brown, Sr.; brother, John Gardner; and sister, Lula Thomas.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Melanie Brown of McDonough, Sammy and Claire Brown of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Gardner and Jennifer Brown of Athens, Zeb Brown and Sarah Brown of Locust Grove, Derek Brown and Devan Brown of McDonough; great-grandchildren, Josie Brown of Athens; sister, Nan Brown of Locust Grove; brother, Howell Gardner of Locust Grove; caregiver, Patsy Leege; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 18 at First Baptist Church in Locust Grove. Interment First Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the Henry Medical Foundation or to the Henry County Scholarship Foundation. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jeanette Christian Denton
Jeanette Christian Denton, age 76, of McDonough, Georgia died Friday, March 17, 2006. Mrs. Denton was born
February 28, 1930 in Fulton County, the daughter of the late James Laney Christian and Madge Chambers McFarland.
She is survived by her children, Jim and Susan Denton of Locust Grove, Joy and Rob Richardson of Fayetteville; grandson, Jeramy Denton; sister, Rachel Willingham of Stockbridge.
Services were held March 20 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Mr. Scott Chewning officiating. Entombment Haisten/ Eastlawn Mausoleum. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sotheary Terri Oun
Sotheary Terri Oun, age 38, of McDonough, Georgia died March 17, 2006. Mrs. Oun was born
October 6, 1967 in Cambodia, the daughter of Ieng Thien and Borom Toek. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, loved spending time with her children, the outdoors and traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Bunlong Oun; children, Christopher and Brenda Oun; parents, Ieng and Borom Thien, all of McDonough; sisters, Channary Kosal of Tucker, Linna Thien of Norcross, Puthavy Thien of Long Beach, California, Viki Hing of McDonough, Sovannary Thien of Atlanta; brother, Rich Thien of McDonough; nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 25 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Sorn Clot and Rev. Sytha Chan officiating. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Kathy Johnson
Kathy Johnson, age 50, of Hampton, Georgia died March 19, 2006. Ms. Johnson was born
in Lancaster, South Carolina. She loved working, spending time with her family especially her grandsons, she also enjoyed her flower garden and her online friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Amy Diane Johnson of Hampton; son, Phillip Kyle Johnson of Hampton; grandsons, Dylan Andrew Johnson, Devin Lee Johnson; parents, Wesley and Betty Driggers of McDonough; sisters, Gail (W.T.) Mahon of Middleburg, Florida, Cindy (Dan) Hardy of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 21 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Al O’Quinn officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
