CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Mary Castleberry died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at a relative's home. She was 92.
Survivors include one son, Carl Layman, Gibsonburg, Ohio; three daughters, Jean Johnston, Chattanooga, Bonnie Wooten, Grand Prairie, Texas, and Dorris Fraser, Chatsworth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Peeples Funeral Home in Chatsworth with the Rev. Charles Carnes officiating.
Burial will be held in the Mount Moriah Cemetery.
Roy McGregor
RINGGOLD, Ga. - Roy McGregor died Saturday evening at a local hospital. He was 56.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Wallis-Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Lamar Davis, the Rev. Ken Paul and others officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Wallis-Stewart Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Woodstation Cemetery.
Irene Nelson
SUMMERVILLE, Ga. - Irene Nelson died Monday, Jan. 12, 1999, at her home. She was 81.
A native of Cherokee County, Ala., she was a member of the Berryton Church of God. She was retired from Best Manufacturing.
Survivors include two daughters, Marzell Stewart, Summerville, and Bobbie Jean Barnes, Lafayette, Ga.; one son, Sammy J. Nelson Sr., Griffin, Ga.; five sisters, Gussie Henderson and Almeter Henderson, Gaylesville, Ala., Kathleen Kellett, Summerville, Pluma Renfroe, Boaz, Ala., and Nellie Tucker, Powder Springs, Ga.; one brother, Barney Stallings, Menlo, Ala.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the J.D. Hill Funeral Home in Summerville with the Rev. Gleason Maxwell and Father Tom Marrelle officiating.
Burial will be in the Summerville Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frances Nicholson
DALTON, Ga. - Frances Marie Wilson Nicholson died Saturday at her home. She was 76.
Services will be held today at 3 p.m. at Ponders Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Atkins, and the Rev. Doug Mattox and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Myrtis Scoggins
WEST ARMUCHEE, Ga. - Myrtis Elizabeth Phillips Scoggins died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in an area hospital.
She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Doris Scoggins Henning, Chattanooga; two sons, A.P. 'Sonny' Scoggins and Alan Scoggins, West Armuchee; six granddaughters, one grandson, six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in Lafayette, Ga., with the Rev. C.F. Strickland and the Rev. Terry Burns officiating.
Burial will be in Phillips Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
James West
FAIRMOUNT, Ga. - James F. West died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in an area hospital. He was 74.
He was a school bus driver for the Gordon County School System, had operated a grocery store, and was a member of Pleasant Grove-Ryo Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dot W. Hayes; one son, Lamar West, Fairmount; three brothers, Clifford West, Ranger Ga., Noel West, Resaca, Ga., and Dale West, San Angelo, Texas; five sisters, Nera Stone, Vera Boling, Linda Mauldin and Carolyn Malloy, all of Fairmount, and Sandra Scoggins, Calhoun; one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Bell and the Rev. Jack Baker officiating.
Burial will be in Chandler Cemetery.
Richard Garner
Richard Larry Garner of Chickamauga, Ga., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in Centre, Ala. He was 63.
Formerly of LaFollette, Tenn., he had lived in the Chickamauga area for the past 26 years.
He was a member of Brainerd Kiwanis Club, an employee of the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga for 42 years and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Lewis Garner.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis H. Garner; three sons, Richard Larry Garner II, and Vincent Howe Garner, both of Signal Mountain, and Phillip Brandt Garner, Chickamauga, Ga.; one brother, Hugh Garner, Signal Mountain; one sister, Susan Geiger, Rogersville, Tenn.; three granddaughters.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn cemetery in LaFollette, Tenn.
The family will receive friends at Cross Funeral Home in LaFollette Wednesday from noon until 1:30 p.m.

Katherine Gleason
Katherine Fitts Gleason of Rossville, Ga., died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 80.
The Alabama native had most of her life in the Chattanooga area.
She had been employed at Rossville Federal Savings and Loan Association and was a member of MacFarland United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Chattanooga Chapter of Pilot Club International.
She was widowed by both Dr. E. Marlin Fitts and Frank M. Gleason.
Survivors include one son, Joel E. Fitts, Ooltewah; one sister, Hazel McCord, Louisville, Ky.; one son, Joel E. Fitts, Ooltewah; two grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Laura Jean Myers-Ross officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Bernice LaVaughn Wheeler Smith of Rossville, Ga., died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in a local health care facility. She was 78.

Grady Swafford
Grady Farris Swafford of Chickamauga, Ga., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at his home. He was 83.
A longtime resident of the Chickamauga area, he was formerly a professional boxer and had also worked as a machine operator with Hamilton Concrete Products.
He was a Baptist and the widower of Cora Lee Swafford.
Survivors include four daughters, Evelyn Garrett, Chickamauga, Ga., Kathleen Brock, Ringgold, Ga., Debbie (no last name), and Jean Rosser, both of Dalton; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Hampton officiating.
Burial will be in Chickamauga City Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hansard H. Gray of Flintstone, Ga., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at a local hospital. He was 69.
