LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Melvin McSears died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in an area nursing home. He was 76.
Arrangements will be announced by Willis Funeral Home, Dalton.
Doreen Nicely
RINGGOLD, Ga. - Doreen Jeanette Nicely died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in a local hospital. She was 76.
A native of Portland, Ore., she had lived in the Ringgold area most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Alan Nicely.
Survivors include four sons, Fred Nicely, Chattanooga, Richard Nicely, Rossville, Michael Nicely, Rock Spring, and Gary Nicely, Flowery Branch, Ga.; two daughters, Glenda Nicely and Sandra Evans, both of Rock Spring; one brother, Robert F. Pearson, Washington; one sister, Maxine Fletcher, Oregon; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 12:30 p.m. at Wallis-Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Sloan officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
Doug Fountain
CALHOUN, Ga. - Douglas Howell Fountain died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. He was 43.
A native of Jasper, Ga., he was a son of the late Denton Fountain, and was a retired dozer operator with Bowater and Calhoun Woodlands.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Allen Fountain; two daughters, Stephanie and Patricia Fountain; his mother, Elsie Long Fountain; one sister, Nancy Lemming, all of Calhoun; and one grandchild.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at New Town Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Brannon and minister Frank Mills officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. David Ray in charge of graveside rites.
Arrangements are by Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, Calhoun.
James Gibson
TUNNEL HILL, Ga. - James S. 'Gibby' Gibson died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at his home. He was 80.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Anderson Gibson; four daughters, Rebecca McGee and Sandra Teems, both of Chattanooga, Gwen Bevis, Harrison, and Kaye Tapia, Flat Rock, Ala.; one sister, Oleeta Plumley, Dalton; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Hyatt and the Rev. Thomas Black officiating.
Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
W.D. Betton
DALTON, Ga. - W.D. Betton died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at his home.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was retired from Seaboard Railroad System.
Survivors include three sisters, Eva Lou Rivers Sr., Jessie Mae Cooper and Frances Betton, all of Dalton.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Warren Thaxton and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.
Ida Coleman
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Ida Hartness Coleman died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 97.
She was a native of Polk County, Tenn., and a member of Midway Baptist Church in Dalton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Coleman; two daughters, Mamie Painter and Edna Barfield, and two sons, Clarence, and Calvin Coleman.
Survivors include two sons, Wilford and James Coleman, both of Dalton; three daughters, Mae Baker, Cleveland, Tenn., Imogene Maynor, Dahlonega, Ga., and Hazel Tankersley, Chatsworth; one sister, Helen Lawson, Cleveland; one brother, Paul Hartness, Dalton; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Love Funeral Home with the Rev. James Whitmore and the Rev. Joe Baker officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dianne Chaney Grissett of Riverdale, Ga., formerly of Dalton, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, in a Decatur, Ga., hospital.

CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Frances Robinson died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 87.

Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

AUSTELL, Ga. - Mildred Dent Clarke of Austell, Ga., and formerly of Summerville, Ga., died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, in a Marietta, Ga., hospital. She was 90.
She was the widow of Edward Lowe Clarke, and a member of Summerville Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Hair, Summerville; one son, the Rev. Dr. Erskine Clarke, Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Louise Wheeler, LaFayette, Ga., and Margaret Thompson, Atlanta; one brother, Alex Dent, Cartersville, Ga.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Summerville Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Julia Simmons and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in Summerville Cemetery.
