Evelyn Smock
Evelyn (Grandma Cookie) Smock, age 85, died May 8, 2006. Mrs. Smock was born
March 14, 1921 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Jack and Hazel Pierson. She was given her nickname by her grandson Matt because of her cookie baking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Smock.
She is survived by her daughters, Andi and husband, Jim Robinson of McDonough, Kathryn and husband, Kevin Lamb of St. Louis, Missouri; grandsons, Matthew Littlefield, Adam Littlefield, Tom Littlefield, and Patrick Lamb.
Memorial Mass was held May 12 at St. James The Apostle Catholic Church, with Father Terry Crone officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 1925 Century Boulevard, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30345. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Marion Pinion Foshee
Marion Pinion Foshee, age 83, of Griffin, Georgia died May 8, 2006. She was born
December 7, 1922 in Cochran, Georgia the daughter of Maynard C. Pinion and Amelia Willis. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy of 54 years in 1998.
She is survived by a loving family of daughters, Gloria and Richard Barlow, Sara Sewell; son, Tommy and Debbie Foshee; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen and Charles Nelson; brother, Sonny and Margaret Pinion; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 11 in the chapel of Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, with Dr. Trenton Swanson and Rev. Mark Sellers officiating. Interment Memorial Gardens in Griffin. Ford-Stewart Funeral Home, Inc. in charge of arrangements.
John Wesley Cross
John Wesley Cross, age 73, of Jackson, Georgia died April 29, 2006. Mr. Cross was born
January 16, 1933 in Decatur County, the son of the late Caudie Martin and James Ralph Cross. He was retired from Ford Motor Company, and a member of the local UAW 882. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, farming and traveling. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Riverdale and attended Jonesboro First Baptist Church and Jackson First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Alan Cross; and several siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Maybelle Pirkle Cross of Jackson; children, Lance Cross of Stockbridge, Donna and John Davis of McDonough; grandchildren, Erin and Michael Davis of McDonough; siblings, Alberta Scott of Winter Park, Florida, Arvenia Foister of Panama City, Florida, Waymon Cross of Camilla, Vance Cross of Oxford, Rachel Cross of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 1 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Stan Patterson and Rev. Earl Pirkle officiating. Interment Bethel Baptist Church cemetery. Haisten Funerals and Cremations in charge of arrangements.
Grace Caldwell Lentz
Grace Caldwell Lentz, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia died April 30, 2006. Mrs. Lentz was born
October 17, 1921 in Cumming. She was a woman who loved to go shopping, and loved her flowers.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Charles Lentz of McDonough; daughters, Celia D. Chivses of Albany, Rita Lavon Cantrell of Snellville; five grandchildren; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held May 2 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors. Interment Westview Cemetery. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Robert Letaw Simmons
Robert Letaw Simmons, age 97, of Hampton, Georgia died April 30, 2006. Mr. Simmons was born
December 10, 1908 in Sinclair County, Alabama, the son of the late Cora Bell Cosby and George B. Simmons. He was a member of Hampton First Baptist Church. He was retired from Southern States. He enjoyed his family, friends and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Audrey Buckner Simmons; and a son, R. Lowell Simmons.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Tammy McLemore and husband Stanley of Hampton; great-granddaughter, Brandi Barber of Hampton; sisters, Hariett Eady and Odessa Weems of Pinson, Alabama, Waudine Layfield and husband Pan of Blountsville, Alabama; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held May 2 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Terry Quick and Rev. Buddy Perstrope officiating. Interment Berea Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Jeanne Lorraine Essex
Jeanne Lorraine Essex, age 56, of McDonough, Georgia died May 2, 2006. Mrs. Essex was born
in Tullahoma, Tennessee. She enjoyed traveling, flowers and plants, and her animals. She was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, and a friend to many who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Waggoner.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Essex of McDonough; mother, Anne Overko Waggoner of Stockbridge; sister, Nancy Waggoner Colley of Newark, Delaware; brothers, William Waggoner of Marietta, Robert Waggoner of Greeneville, South Carolina; nieces, Nichele Rothrock, Alisa Colley; nephews, Brian Waggoner and Russell Waggoner.

Austin Lee Bridges
Austin Lee Bridges of Locust Grove, Georgia died May 2, 2006. He was born
in Stockbridge.
He is survived by his mother, Micheleen Miranda; and father, Billy Bridges, both of Locust Grove; half-brother, Tyler Selman; half-sisters, Ada Nicole McCormick, Montana Selman; half-twin brothers, Eric and Sean Chasteen; maternal grandfather, Inocente Miranda; paternal grandfather, Jerry Bridges, Sr.; and paternal grandmother, Mary Bridges.

Adelene Lunsford Wilder
Adelene Lunsford Wilder, age 85, of Locust Grove, Georgia died May 4, 2006. Mrs. Wilder was born
October 27, 1920 in Henry County, the daughter of the late Josie Lee Laney and Grady Walter Lunsford. She was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church, where she served as treasurer. She retired as a Vice President with SunTrust Bank with 34 plus years of service. She enjoyed shopping, fishing, traveling, cooking and serving people.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, A. C. (Pete) Wilder of Locust Grove; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Dickie Moore of Jackson, Linda and Clint Roberts of Griffin; grandchildren, Sonya Moore Rechtorvic, Maria Moore Barnes, Clint Smith, Sandy Smith Walker; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 6 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenny Ott officiating. Interment Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Susan LaMonte Pembleton Klath
Susan LaMonte Pembleton Klath, age 83, of Stockbridge, Georgia, formerly of New York died May 4, 2006. Mrs. Klath was a resident of Dogwood Forest Assisted Living. She was born
December 17, 1922 in New York, the daughter of the late Julia Haverly and John Gilbert Pembleton.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Weisman of Croton-On-Hudson, New York, David Klath of Somers, New York, Gail Klath of Hollywood, Florida; sister, Joan Puder of Sacramento, California; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be announced and held later in Pennsylvania . Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Peggy Moore Blanton
Peggy Moore Blanton, age 59, of McDonough, Georgia died May 4, 2006. Ms. Blanton was born
in Ashville, North Carolina. She was a member of Glen Haven Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing and cross-stitching. She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Moore.
She is survived by her daughter, Christina (Dwayne) Lightsey of McDonough; son, Al (Lisa) Blanton of Loganville; mother, Janice Moore of Loganville; sister, Toni Draper of Duluth; grandchildren, Ashleigh Blanton, Christopher Lightsey, and Caleb Lightsey.
Services were held May 7 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Ralph Easterwood, Rev. Stan Berrong, and Rev. Warren Green officiating. Interment Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
