Junior Nelson
SUMMERVILLE - Junior L. Nelson died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his home. He was 81.
Mr. Nelson was a retired barber and also was retired from civil service. He was a member of Pennville First Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nathalee Henderson Nelson.
Survivors include a daughter, Laura Hunt; son, Larry T. Nelson; sister, Mildred Bowers, all of Summerville; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. in Greenhills Memory Gardens.
Arrangements are by J.D. Hill Funeral Home, Summerville.
Edgar Watkins
CALHOUN - Edgar Watkins died Wednesday, April 28, 1999, an area health care center. He was 81.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired building contractor. He was a member and deacon of New Town Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Estelle Holmes Watkins; two sons, Eddy and Louie Watkins, both of Calhoun; a brother, Steede Watkins, Winder, Ga.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at New Town Baptist Church with the Rev. John Bearden and the Rev. David Ray officiating.
Burial will be in Gordon Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, Calhoun.
Joyce Young
ROSSVILLE - Joyce Virginia McKin Young died Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at her home. She was 55.
She was a member of Community Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her father, Julius McKin, and a brother, Charles D. McKin.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Cole, and a son, William Young, both of Rossville; mother, Hazel Bowman McKin, LaFayette, Ga.; four sisters, Doris Duvall, Westminster, Calif., Agnes Brown and Martha Bailey, both of LaFayette, and Marilyn McKin, Dalton, Ga.; two brothers, Claude and Roland McKin, both of LaFayette; and three grandchildren.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home with the Rev. Pat Davis and the Rev. W.C. Pence officiating.
Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.
Joni Betterson
FLINTSTONE, Ga. - Joni M. Betterson died Monday, March 29, 1999, in a local hospital.
There are no immediate survivors.
Services and burial will be Tuesday in Los Angeles.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. at the Avondale Chapel of Franklin Strickland Funeral Home.
Burnie Dawkins
ROSSVILLE, Ga. - Burnie P. Dawkins died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in a local nursing home. She was 88.
She was a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and had lived in North Georgia for most of her life.
She was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church, where she served as secretary of the Huskey Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Gordon Dawkins.
Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Nofsinger, Ringgold; two sons, Joe Lloyd Dawkins, Rock Spring, and Donald Dawkins, Fort Oglethorpe; a sister, Ruth Blevins, Rossville; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at noon at Victory Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Perry officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

CALHOUN, Ga. - Joan Rebecca McClure Dodd died recently in an area hospital. She was 42.
Services will be today at 2 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Crider and the Rev. Perry Blackstock officiating.
Burial will be in Haven of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.

RINGGOLD, Ga. - Tommy Eslinger died Friday, April 2, 1999, at his home. He was 69.

Karen Hess ROSSVILLE, Ga. - Karen Poteet Hess died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at her home. She was 46.

Linda Petty
RESACA, Ga. - Linda Pearl Petty died Wednesday, March 31, 1999, in an area hospital. She was 42.
Mrs. Petty was a transporter for Senior Solutions and had lived in Gordon County for the past 18 years.
Survivors include her parents, Thomas W. and Wanda Harris; her husband, Michael D. Petty, Resaca; a son, Josh DeWayne Petty, Resaca; two daughters, Tracy Patterson, Sugar Valley, Ga., and Amy Kephart, Calhoun; two brothers, Tommy Dyer, Calhoun, and Floyd Dyer, Murray County; three sisters, Sandra Hayes, Oakman, Tammy Dyer, Chatsworth, and Elizabeth Haues, Calhoun; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Hogan officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Baptist Church cemetery near Resaca.
