Alfred DeLon Bumpus, IV
Alfred DeLon Bumpus, IV, age 55, of McDonough, Georgia died June 12, 2006. Mr. Bumpus was born
on August 13, 1950, the son of Floy Eula Bumpus and the late Alfred Delon Bumpus, Sr. He grew up in Unadilla and graduated from Unadilla High School. He graduated from Valdosta State College in 1972 with a B.A. in History. He continued the following year working on his Master’s Degree. During his college years Alde (Al) was president of Baptist Student Union and served as a summer missionary in Arizona under the Home Mission Board. After college he began working with Southern Bell in several locations around Atlanta. He was currently employed with AT&T in Atlanta for the past 32 years. He was a management employee involved in various titles including sales marketing manager, communications consultant and customer service. He achieved Gold Club designation for several years due to high sales productivity. He enjoyed the friendships he made over the years with fellow workers and customers. One of his greatest desires was to be a good father and provide for his family. He was so proud of the academic accomplishments of all three sons and many times said how proud he was of the men that they had become. He was so touched with how they supported and honored him during his illness. He took his family on many camping trips that allowed them to visit most of the National Parks and Monuments in all but three of the 50 states in what he thought was a most beautiful country. He loved to travel and the most recent trip with his family was a European trip in July, 2004 to London, Paris, Barcelona, Florence and Rome. It will be a vacation that will never be forgotten. He had many hobbies with most involving the outdoors. He was however an avid reader of three to five books a week. He was a long distance runner since high school, played soccer, enjoyed golf, white water rafting, skiing, motorcycling, camping and hiking. A good deal of his time centered on helping his three sons develop their athletic skills. He was on the board in the early stages of the formation of the Henry County Soccer Association and got his E coaching license and coached several of the youth soccer teams. He was active in the Ola Athletic Association where his sons played baseball. He was also active in the Henry County High School Soccer Booster Club where all three sons played for the War-hawks. An important part of his life was as an active member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro for the past 30 years. He served as a Sunday School teacher, R.A. Leader and for many years served as an usher. His church fellowship prayed, visited, sent cards and supported him during his illness and he was touched.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jenny Babb Bumpus; sons, Eric and daughter-in-law Mandy Bumpus of Woodstock, Kyle Bumpus of Decatur, Kevin Bumpus of McDonough; mother Floy (Peggy) Bumpus of Unadilla.
Services were held June 15 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, with Dr. Dean Haun officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Park in McDonough. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be given to First Baptist Church of Jonesboro designated for missions ministries or Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University School of Medicine and designated for brain tumor research. Beverly McLeod Collins
Beverly McLeod Collins, age 68, of McDonough, Georgia died June 12, 2006. Mrs. Collins was born
October 6, 1937 in Clayton County, the daughter of the late Emily Camp and John McLeod. She was a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Collins; daughter, Car-olyn Collins; and granddaughter, Cathy Ann Collins, all of McDonough; sister, Katy Stafford of Maryland.
Services were held June 18 at Sharon Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharon Baptist New Building Fund, 536 N. Ola Road, McDonough, Georgia, 30252. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Everett Ray Mullins
Everett Ray Mullins, age 64, of Hampton, Georgia died June 13, 2006. Mr. Mullins was born
in Welch, West Virginia, the son of the late William F. and Lula England Mullins. He retired from the International Paper Company. His grandkids were the most important part of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sharlene Mullins of Hampton; son, Scott (Hannah) Mullins of Covington; grandsons, Austin and Stuart Mullins, both of Covington; and several brothers and sisters.
Services were held in West Virginia, with Fanning Funeral Home handling arrangements. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of local arrangements.
Bernice Callaway Crumbley
Bernice Callaway Crumbley of McDonough, Georgia died June 15, 2006. Mrs. Callaway was born
September 15, 1909 in Lovejoy, the daughter of the late Mittie and Ira Callaway. She graduated from Young Harris College in 1928 and became an elementary school teacher and worked later at Southside Bank in Lakewood and Ft. Gillem Credit Union in Forest Park. “Granny” enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and music. She played piano since young childhood and was a church pianist for 20 years at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, where she remained a member. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, J.C. Crumbley in 1976; siblings, Roy Callaway, Cloma Callaway, Rev. J. Clyde Callaway, Marvin Callaway and Grace Callaway Strawn.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Don Chapman of McDonough; grandchildren, Donna Drake and husband Jim, Debbie McMichael and husband Ted, Del Chapman and wife Kim, Derek Chapman and wife Marcia; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, June 17 in the chapel of Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Home, with Mr. Roger Waters, Minister of Music at Salem Baptist Church officiating. Interment Westview Cemetery
in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Salem Baptist Church Music Ministries, 1724 Hwy.155 N., McDonough, Georgia, 30252 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 192 Century Blvd. NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30345. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Victor Angelo Goggins
Victor Angelo "Big Daddy" Goggins, age 38, of McDonough, Georgia died June 16, 2006. Mr. Goggins was born
January 22, 1968 in Rockdale County. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was employed with Vulcan Materials as a heavy equipment operator. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed his family and friends.
He is srvived by his wife, Julie Goggins; daughter, Victoria Gog-gins; and son, Damien Goggins, all of McDonough; mother, Lennette Strozier Goggins of McDonough; father, Lorenza Goggins of Covington; brother, Chadwick Goggins of McDonough; sisters and brothers-in-law, Martill and Eddie Scofield of Covington, Latanya Tate of Covington; special cousins, Patricia Goggins Swinger of Riverdale, Renee’ Goggins Head of Stock-bridge; special friend, Calvin McClendon of McDonough; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held June 20 at Shiloh Baptist Church in McDonough, with Rev. Edward Lee officiating. Interment Rose Garden Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Markennley Vickie Braidswood
Markennley Vickie Braidswood, age 63, died June 17, 2006. Ms. Braidswood was born
in 1942 in Maryland, the daughter of the late Leon and Mary Birdella Ross. She was a career federal employee and was employed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by her sister, Maizella McCoy.
She is survived by her only child, Traycee Jennings-Scott, son-in-law, Ted Scott; grandchildren, Brandon Avery and Gillian Camille of Locust Grove; sisters, Leona Munoz, Yvonne Williams, Birdella King; brothers-in-law Ramon Munoz, Vernon Williams; eight nieces and nephews; a host of great-nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Services were held June 24 at The Church at Westridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hope House, a ministry of SW Christian Care, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Georgia, 30291. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.06.28.06
Paul Rowan
Paul Rowan, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia died Saturday, June 3, 2006. Mr. Rowan was born
in McDon-ough, in the Flippen Community, the son of the late Robert Tyre and Annie Barbara Brannan Rowan. He was a navigator in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He graduated from McDonough High School and Young Harris College, receiving his Master’s Degree in Political Science from Emory University. He was in retail management for 20 years before entering the Henry County Board of Education in 1973, retiring as principal of Henry County High School in 1986. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Olla Paula Rowan; brother, Horace Rowan; and sister, Mary Rowan Daniel.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Rowan of McDonough; son, Robert (Lisa) Rowan of McDonough; daughters, Marianna (Darrell) Brown of McDonough, Fredrica (Ed) Clary of Evans; grandchildren, Rachel Brown, Catherine Clary, Dan Clary; sister, Elsie Rowan Reader of McDonough; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Clamp Rowan of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 5 at Flippen United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Interment Flippen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Flippen United Methodist Church, 3707 Jodeco Road, McDonough, Georgia, 30253 or Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia, 30253. W.L. Hogue
W.L. "Bill" Hogue, age 77, of McDonough, Georgia died June 4, 2006. Mr. Hogue was born
March 31, 1929 in Cobb County, the son of the late William Elbert and Evelyn Aletha Herren Hogue. He retired after 35 years with Lockheed-Martin, was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, and loved woodcraft, coin collecting, antiquing and camping. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Jean Morris Hogue in 2003.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Angela Hogue of Marietta, Randy and Jamie Hogue of Canton; grandchildren, Jared Ryan, Zack, Jackson and Victoria Hogue; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rodney and Sadie Hogue of Roswell, Terry and Linda Hogue of Roswell, Wayne Hogue of Greensville, South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 6 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Dr. Mark Outlaw officiating. Interment Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Mt. Bethel UMC Building Fund in memory of Mr. Hogue. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Martha Berry
Martha Berry, age 58, of Jackson, Georgia died June 5, 2006. Mrs. Berry was born
in Richmond, Virginia, the daughter of the late John Edward and Elizabeth Benninghove Martin.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Berry of Jackson; children, Theresa Maurer of McDonough, Brian Lucas of Stockbridge, Kim Brooks of Stockbridge, Trinette Keck of Jackson; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Betty Jean McKenzie of Staunton, Virginia; Carol Lee Martin of Richmond, Virginia; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 8 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Marlon Thomas officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
