Marvin Ashworth
SUMMERVILLE, Ga. - Marvin A. Ashworth died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in a Rome hospital. He was 88.
The son of the late James M. and Alice Copeland Ashworth was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was married
to the late Eunice Blalock Ashworth.
Survivors include two sisters, Naomi Ashworth, Rossville, and Amanda Morris, Atlanta; two brothers, Carlton Ashworth, Summerville, and J.P. Ashworth, Rossville.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Sanford DeBerry, the Rev. Gary Wells and the Rev. Joe Blalock officiating.
Burial will be in Moseley Cemetery.
Gladys Baker
CALHOUN, Ga. - Gladys Williams Baker of Sugar Valley died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in a Dalton nursing home. She was 86.
Mrs. Baker was formerly employed with Bell Craft Mills in Dalton, was a homemaker and a member of Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
She was the wife of the late Willie Baker and was preceded in death by three sons.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Ann Denning, Adairsville, Opal Lau, Pensacola, Fla., and Mildred Brown, Calhoun; son, Boyd Baker, Resaca; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral was held today at 4 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Duvall officiating.
Burial was in Fain Cemetery.
Roger Smith
RINGGOLD, Ga. - Joseph Roger Smith of Chattanooga died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at his home. He was 59.
Services were today at 1:30 p.m. at the Dodds Avenue Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with the Rev. John Andrus officiating.
Burial was in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
C.J. Ray
CALHOUN, Ga. - C.J. Ray of Fairmount died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in a Dalton hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Ray was a retired truck driver from Roadway Express, a member of Harvest Temple Church of Calhoun, a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Morning Star Lodge 349 F&AM;, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 396, the Royal Arch, Low Twelve Club, and the International Brotherhood of Teamster Warehousemen of America.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Cornett Ray; three daughters, Janice Hackney and Cindy Moss, both of Cartersville, and Gwen Reeves, Calhoun; son, Gary Ray, Taylorsville; three sisters, Paula Cox and Martha Wehunt, both of Canton, and Coriene Wilkey, Atlanta; two brothers, Bill Ray, Ballground, and James Ray, Canton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held today at 2 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Junior Clayton officiating.
Burial was in Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton.
Evia Parker
LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Evia Hall Parker died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, in an area nursing home. She was 88.
She was the widow of Clifford Parker and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Jean Serpas, LaFayette; three sisters, Gladys Goss, Dora Lee Swrader and Eunice Strickland, all of Mentone, Ala.; one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at LaFayette Funeral Home with the Rev. Harvey Lively officiating.
Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lou Hise
LaFAYETTE, Ga. - Lou Jean Roach Hise of Chickamauga died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in an area hospital. She was 82.
She was the mother of the late Billy G. Hise.
Survivors include two sons, Charles W. and Willis E. Hise, both of Kensington, Ga.; brother, James Roach, Chickamauga; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home in LaFayette with the Rev. Gene Voss officiating.
Burial will be in Old Antioch Cemetery.
Visitation will be today after 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ruth Fuller
CALHOUN, Ga. - Ruth Fuller died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998, at her home. She was 73.
Mrs. Fuller was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Eastgate Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Jewel Fuller and was preceded in death by a brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Jones, Calhoun, and Rita Lough, Rocky Face; two sons, Jerry and Charles Fuller, both of Calhoun; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Eastgate Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Greene and the Rev. Clinton Greene officiating.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 10 p.m. at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home.

DALTON, Ga. - Marilyn R. Gibson died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998, in a local hospital. She was 58.
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Lona Mae Jones and a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jack L. Gibson; daughter, Gayle Presley, Dalton; two sons, William and James Gibson, all of Dalton; sister, Genevelyn Bunch, Moncks Corner, S.C.; three brothers, Herman R. Jones, Nashville, Billy Jones, Ellijay, and J.P. Jones, Blue Ridge; two grandsons.
The funeral was today at 2 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Morgan and other ministers officiating.
Burial was in West Hill Cemetery.
Fred Harris
CALHOUN, Ga. - Fred Harris of the Nickelsville Road community near Ranger died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998. He was 82.
The Whitfield County native was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Fairview Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Marel Andrews Harris; three daughters, Iris Parker and Phyllis Gowen, both of Ranger, and Doris Lowery, Pine Log; two sisters, Agnes and Annie Silvers, both of Calhoun; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held today at 3 p.m. at the East Calhoun Church of God with the Rev. Mark Tatum and other ministers officiating.
Burial was in Fairview Church of God cemetery with military rites.

DALTON, Ga. - Robert Levi "Bob' Hilley of Panama City Beach, Fla., formerly of Dalton, died Monday, Sept. 14, 1998. He was 75.
Survivors include his wife, Rheba Hilley; two daughters, Melinda Glass, Marietta, Ga., and Barbara Bezdek, Canton; two brothers, Harold Hilley, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Carl Hilley, Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Agnes Headrick, Dalton; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Medford-Peden Funeral Home in Marietta.
Burial will be in Cheatham Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today, Friday and Saturday morning at the funeral home in Marietta.
