Michael Allen Sims of Rossville, Ga., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at his home. He was 53.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Snyder officiating.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery, Dalton.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mary Slaughter
CALHOUN, Ga. - Mary Jane Slaughter died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, in her home. She was 40.
She was born in Scottsboro, Ala.
She was a choir member of the Winners Club and attended the Gordon County Training Center where she was active in the Special Olympics.
She was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include her father and mother, Bill and Vera Slaughter, Calhoun; two sisters, Sandi Talley, Teresa Silvers, both of Calhoun; and three brothers, Jerry Gilliam, Park Forest, Ill., Gary Slaughter, Castle Rock, Col., James Slaughter, Summerville, Ga.
Services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie McBrayer officiating.
Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
Ida Smith
DALTON, Ga. - Ida Mae Anderson Smith died Monday, Feb. 9, 1998, in a Dalton hospital. She was 75.
She was a member of Mountain Ridge Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Henry "Smitty' Smith Jr.
Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Jo Ann Smith, Dalton.
Services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home, Dalton, with the Rev. W.M. Brown, the Rev. R.E. Henley and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The body will be at the funeral home after 10 a.m. today.
Joseph E. Smith
TRENTON, Ga. - Joseph Elmer Smith died Friday, Feb. 6. He was 85.
He was a General Church of God member.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Smith.
Survivors include four daughters, Trudy Smith and Linda Case, both of Trenton, Alma Duggard, Ooltewah, and Sherry Talley, Whitwell, Tenn.; two sons, Leroy and Garland Smith, both of Trenton; two sisters, Elsie Ragland and Grace Avans, both of Chattanooga; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were today at 2 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Shirley officiating.
Burial was in Gibdock Cemetery.
Peggy Smith
CHATSWORTH, Ga. - Peggy Clark Smith of Rome, Ga., died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at a local hospital. She was 49.
Survivors include two daughters, Delaine Langford, Chatsworth, Kim McTaggart, Dallas, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be today at 4 p.m. at Peeples Funeral Home.
Cremation will follow.
The family will receive friends today after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to defer expenses.
John Parks
CALHOUN, Ga. - John Wilcox Parks died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in an area hospital. He was 82.
Born in Gilmer County, he was a member of the Salem Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and prior to his retirement he was a member of the Steam Fitters Local 766 for 47 years. He received his 50 year pin from the Oothcaloga Masonic Lodge 154 and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Parks; one daughter, Ann House of Calhoun; one sister, Rebbeca Parks of Rome, Ga.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Thomas Funeral Home, with the Rev. Terrel Colston and the Rev. Leonard Cordle officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fain Cemetery.
Marvin Parks
DALTON, Ga. - Marvin Parks of Milwaukee, Wis., formerly of Dalton, died there Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998. He was 50.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Willis Funeral Home in Dalton with the Rev. R.E. Henley and other ministers officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill cemetery with military rites conducted by Dalton Post 112, American Legion.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gary Pedigo
RINGGOLD, Ga. - Gary Nathan "'Nick' Pedigo of Rossville died Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, at his home. He was 57.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and a graduate of Lakeview High School.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene Pedigo; son, Mike Tumlin, Burnsville, N.C.; sister, Carolyn Hall, Rossville; brother, Donald Pedigo, Ringgold, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Ellis officiating.
Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Visitation will be today after 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Thelma Peterson
DALTON, Ga. - Thelma Smith Peterson of Philadelphia, Pa., and formerly of Dalton, died there recently. She was 92.
Arrangements will be announced by Willis Funeral Home, Dalton.
Harry Cook
DALTON, Ga. - Harry N. Cook died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998. He was 86.
He was the widower of Lois Hunsucker Cook.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Durham and Ann Painter, both of Dalton; one son, Erwin Cook, Wesson, Miss.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Love Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas A. Larson officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
