Eddie D. Smith
Eddie D. “Smitty” Smith, 65, of 408 Ragland St., died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Smith, born December 15, 1937 in Bessemer, Ala., was the son of the late Roosevelt Smith Sr. and Rebecca Richards. He was a retired Army Vietnam War veteran having received the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 5th AWD, Vietnam Service Medical, Vietnam Campaign Median, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and three Overseas Service Bars. He was an ordained deacon and a very faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church on Fannin Street where he was past president of the Voice of First Baptist, assistant superintendent of Sunday School, Boys Scouts, Missions, Men’s Fellowship and Male Choir.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ethel Ruth Smith of LaGrange; a daughter Evangeline Ross, a son Cheavez and Patricia Ross; two grandsons, Montrell and Terrance Ross, all of LaGrange; his mother - in - law, Jannie Hardnett of LaGrange; two great - grandchildren, Denia and Devaughn Ross of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, Leo Smith, John and Dorothy Smith and Roosevelt III and Carla Smith, all of Bessemer, Ala., and Charles Smith of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Creola Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Joyce Smith of Bessemer, Ala.; sister - in - law, Brenda and John Jackson of LaGrange; brothers - in - law, James Hardnett Jr. and John Henry and Barbara Jean Hardnett, all of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Hardnett of LaGrange; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and two special friends, Ionia Smith and family and Marie Gurrero and family of Pemberton and Browns Mill, N.J. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Smith and Roosevelt Smith Jr. and a sister, Jannie Smith.
Funeral services was at 1:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, 104 Fannin St., with Dr. Clarence Sams officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elvis E. McFarland
Elvis Eugene McFarland of 110 Addie St., died Thursday at his residence.
The family will be at their home.

Emmett H. Kelly Jr.
Emmett Herrard Kelly Jr., 70, of 120 Hunnington Drive, died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Kelly, born Nov. 17, 1933, in Itta Bena, Miss., was the son of Emmett Herrard and Mamie Elizabeth Weber Kelly. He came to LaGrange in 1968 practicing as a nurse anesthetist at the City County hospital. He left LaGrange in 1947 for various jobs, retiring in 1998 from the State Hospital in Milledgeville, he then returned to LaGrange after his retirement.
Survivors include two nephews and many friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Emmett Herrard Kelly Jr. will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2003 at the cryptside in Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Helen E. Harrington
Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Harrington, 72, of 160 Sanders Road, died Thursday, May 22, 2003 at her residence. Mrs. Harrington, born March 21, 1931, in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Oscar William and Dizzie Elizabeth Spraggins Reed. She was a homemaker and was married
to the late Thurman J. Harrington. Mrs. Harrington was a member of Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Winnie Spradlin of West Point, Pat Longshore, Katherine Smith, and Margaret Daniel, all of LaGrange; and a brother, George Reid of West Point. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Louette Butler and Eva Orrick; and two brothers, Robert Reed and Leroy Reed.
Funeral services for Mrs. Helen E. Harrington will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with burial in the Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetry. The Revs. Jay Knight and Roland Cross will officiate.
Visitation will be held this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Emma L. Davis
Mrs. Emma L. Davis, 87, of 1003 Cannonville Rd., died May 20, 2003 at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Davis, born Dec. 31, 1915, in Harris County was the daughter of the late James and Beulah Copeland Walker.
Mrs. Davis retired as a school guard and had lived in Cleveland, Ohio for 48 years, before returning to LaGrange in 1985 where she resided with her niece, Mildred Rutledge. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Survivors include a devoted son, Mark McCord of Chicago, Ill.; a very loving and devoted niece, Mildred Rutledge of LaGrange and other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1518 South Davis Rd., with Bro. Forrest Cofield officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at her niece’s home at 1103 Cannonville Road.

John Wilson Jr.
John Wilson Jr., 68, of LaGrange died Monday, May 19, 2003, at his home.
Mr. Wilson, born August 3, 1934, in Philadelphia, Penn, was the son of the late John and Marion Hoag Wilson. He retired as the regional property underwriting manager with Wausau Insurance Company after 30 years. He was a member of Loyd Presbyterian Church and a past president of the Loyd Men’s Club and the Georgia Antique Car Club. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Wilson of LaGrange; four sons and daughters - in - law, John and Laura Wilson of Austin, Texas, David and Pam Wilson of Walnut Grove, Paul and Shannon Wilson of Rockwall, Texas, Robert and Mary Anna Wilson of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, John Ryan Wilson of Austin Texas, Logan Wilson of Austin, Texas Lindsay Wilson of Walnut Grove, Luke Wilson of Walnut Grove, Taylor Wilson of Rockwall, Texas, Susie Wilson of Rockwall Texas, Jaxson Wilson of Rockwall, Texas, and Tanner Wilson of LaGrange; a brother and sister - in - law, Donald and Claire Wilson of Mission Viejo, Calif.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Loyd Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Tony Dean and Father Selva Raj officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary from 7 until 9.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Loyd Presbyterian church cemetery Fund, 550 Glass Bridge Road, , LaGrange, Georgia, or to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, Georgia, 30240.

Deborah Wynn
Mrs. Deborah Riddle Wynn, 44, of LaGrange died Wednesday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Wynn, born August 10, 1958, at Edwards Air Force Base in Boron Calif., was the daughter of William A. and Barbara Moore Riddle. She was a 1976 graduate of Troup High School. and had worked at West Georgia Medical Center as a computer operator and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross, LifeLink of Georgia and Callaway Gardens. She was pianist and organist for many years at Concord Baptist Church and East Vernon Baptist Church where she was a member. In 1996 she received a double lung transplant at the University of Alabama Hospital following an illness with primary pulmonary hypertension.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband of 19 years, Ovid Wynn; a son, William Wynn: a daughter, Katie Wynn: a grandson, Levi Wynn; two sisters and a brother - in - law, Vicki and Thomas Jacks and Angel Hamlin; three brothers and two sisters - in - law, Robert and Jane Riddle, Roger Riddle and Ralph and Angie Riddle, all of LaGrange; and her in - laws, Harold and Pauline Wynn of LaGrange.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at East Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Clayton Scott and the Rev Ronnie Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at Striffler - Hamby Funeral Home from 6 until 8.
In lieu of flowers the family request that cotributions be made to an educational fund for her children at CB&T, P.O. Box 250, , LaGrange, Georgia, 30241.

Jack Tucker
Mr. Jack Tucker, formerly of LaGrange, died Monday.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Johnnie) Varner of College Park; three grandchildren, Michael Tucker of College Park, Gail Broughton of Atlanta, and Sgt. Tyron Varner who is stationed in Iceland; seven grandchildren. Travis Gray, Marquise Tucker, Tianna Varner, Tyree Varner, Tyson Varner, and Traevon Broughton and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from Mt. Patmus Baptist Church, 2207 Candler Rd., in Decatur. The Rev. Horace Andrews will officiate will interment in Crestlawn cemetery in Atlanta. Family and friends please assemble at the church at 10:45 a.m. Friday.

Joe A. Dewberry
Joe A. Dewberry of Standing Rock, Ala., formerly of California, died Wednesday at his home.
Mr. Dewberry, born October 15, 1917, in Moultrie, was the son of the late Henry Grady and Lola Mae Kilgore Dewberry. He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He had been employed with the California Division of Forestry, Orange County Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Jenny (Marge) Balfour Dewberry; a son, Rick Dewberry of Standing Rock, Ala.; two grandchildren; and a great - grandchild.
Memorial services will be Friday, May 23, 2003 at 2 p.m. CDT at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in LaGrange with Brother Tom Delaney officiating.
Quattlebaum Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Elsie Rovinetti
Mrs. Elsie Pini Rovinetti, 81, of New Haven, Conn., died Tuesday, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Mrs. Rovineteti, born in Seymour, Conn., Sept. 22, 1921, was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Angelina Bonazzoli Pini. She moved to Italy as a child where she was raised and educated. She moved back to Connecticut in 1949 and had lived in New Haven since 1970.
Survivors include a son, David Rovinetti of Watertown, Conn.; a daughter, Daniela R. Chase and her husband Sy Chase of LaGrange, and Nadia Rovinetti of New Haven, Conn.; a sister, Franca Manfredi of Sydney, Australia., eight grandchildren, and seven great - grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held today in New Pine Grove cemetery in Waterbury, Conn. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vincent DePaul Society of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, LaGrange, Ga., 30240.
Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury, Conn., is in charge of the arrangements.
