Walter M. Isaac, Jr.
Walter M. Isaac, Jr., age 76, of McDonough, Georgia died July 24, 2006. Mr. Isaac was born
in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania , the son of the late Walter M. and Margaret Tayhur Isaac.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy W. Isaac of McDonough; daughters, Carol I. (David) MacKusick of Stockbridge, Michelle I. (Ron) Kelley of Chamblee; granddaughters, Sarah MacKusick, Melissa Piotrowski; grandsons, Ronnie Kelley, Scott Kelley; brothers, William Isaac of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania , Joseph Isaac of Conley, South Carolina; sisters, Irene Isaac of Ellwood City, Pennsylvania , and Margaret Welsh of Youngstown, Ohio.
Services were held July 28 at Kelley Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Bob Reno officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Donna Edwards Meadows
Donna Edwards Meadows, age 62, of Jonesboro, Georgia died July 25, 2006. Ms. Meadows was born
in Atlanta, the daughter of the late Thomas Edwards and Jeanette Edwards Silvey. She had the distinction of being the first woman mayor of Jonesboro from 1991-1995. She was the founder of Bridgeover, a charitable organization that annually sponsors a renowned Christmas musical. She was a member of Trinity Lakeside Church, and at one time she owned and operated her own tax and accounting firm and drove a Clayton County school bus for over 18 years. In 2002 she was elected as a member of the Jonesboro City Council and served until the time of her death. She loved sports cars, motorcycles, and her diesel truck and was a whiz at jigsaw puzzles. She was a great practical joker with a wonderful sense of humor and a delight to all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother; daughters, Marti Garmon of McDonough, Melly McCutcheon of Jonesboro; sister, Laraine Tinsley of McDonough; brother, Daniel Edwards of Athens; nieces, Tina Bloodworth and Tanya Costa; nephew, Thomas Tinsley; grandchildren, Austin and Melly Ainsworth; sons-in-law, Jeff Garmon, Dr. Ian McCutcheon:, beloved dog Pup Pup: and a host of friends and extended family.
Services were held July 29 at Eagle's Landing Church of God, with Pastor Bryan Lee officiating. Interment Jonesboro City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bridgeover, P.O. Norma Johnson Sligh
Norma Johnson Sligh, age 85, of Stockbridge, Georgia died July 27, 2006. Mrs. Sligh was born
in Atlanta, the daughter of the late Marion and Irene Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hilary Sligh.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Sligh of Stockbridge; son, Lewis Sligh of St. Petersburg, Florida; and sister, Martha Kuhlmann of Conyers.
Services were held July 31 at Salem Baptist Church, with Rev. Dan McKay and Roger Waters officiating. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia, 30253; and Hospice Atlanta, 1244 Park Vista Drive, NE, Atlanta, Georgia, 30319. Elsie Irene Withers Mitchell
Elsie Irene Withers Mitchell, age 92, of McDonough, Georgia died July 4, 2006. Mrs. Mitchell was born
May 17, 1914 in Fulton County, the daughter of the late Maggie Irene Morris and Arthur Arondale Withers. She was a member of Peoples Baptist Church; she was a writer of religious literature, and she served as a missionary who held community "Bible Clubs." She was preceded in death by her husband James Alton Mitchell and a son, James Daniel Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Herbert O’Kelly of McDonough, Rachel and W. A. Robinson of Buckhead, Kathy and Ralph Alexander of Destin, Florida; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carolyn Mitchell of Foley, Alabama, Roy and Lanelle Mitchell of Duluth; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Withers Long of Atlanta; brother, Vernon Withers of Snellville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 8 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Glenn Henson officiating. Interment College Park Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sidney King Dixon
Sidney King Dixon, age 66, of McDonough, Georgia died July 5, 2006. Mrs. Dixon was born
February 26, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama. She is better known as Sid and Maw Maw and she was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family and the beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Stephen Dixon.
Survivors are her children, Tammy and James Cottrell of McDonough, Steve and Cindy Dixon of Fayetteville and Dawn Dixon of Covington; grandchildren, Rebecca, Alex, and Jonah Cottrell, Corey Masters and Zachary (Dixon) Joyce; brothers, John King of Peachtree City, Richard King of Sharpsburg; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held July 8 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Randy Kea officiating. Interment Arlington Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Bill Cates
Bill Cates, age 66, of Stockbridge, Georgia died July 12, 2006. Mr. Cates was a mechanic with Delta Airlines and retired in1991 after 30 years of service. His special interest was cars: reading about them, looking at pictures of them and talking about cars. For the past 16 months he and a friend, Calvin McCuen, were restoring a 1932 Ford Coupe that he purchased in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank F. and Zipporah Foster Cates.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Diane Cates of Stockbridge; sisters, Patricia Stewart and Cathie (Perriott) Rabun, all of Waynesboro; goddaughters, Kathy Williams of Ellenwood, Eve Young of Hampton; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; numerous cousins and a host of special friends.
Services were held July 15 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Christopher Anderson officiating. Cremation will follow. Flowers are acceptable, but for those who wish contributions may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice, 138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia, 30253 or your favorite charity in his memory. Virginia Rowan Kelley
Virginia Rowan Kelley, age 83, of Turtletown, Tennessee died July 13, 2006. Mrs. Kelley was born
in Henry County, the daughter of the late Henry Washington and Lois Brannan Rowan. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. Kelley; and son Virgil Kelley.
She is survived by her daughter, Elon Kelley Greer of Turtletown, Tennessee; siblings, Joel Rowan of Stockbridge, Richard Rowan of Griffin, Gerald Rowan of Jacksonville, Florida, Martha Stensrud of Temple, Texas ; eight grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 16 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Fun-eral Directors, with Rev. Norman Pyle officiating. Interment Flippen Cemetery. Can-non Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Roy Franklin Strawn
Roy Franklin Strawn, age 70, of McDonough, Georgia died July 13, 2006. Mr. Strawn was born
April 17, 1936 in Henry County, the son of the late Charles Franklin and Exa Mae McKibbon Strawn. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1961, gaining the rank of Corporal in the Korean War when he was stationed in Germany. He retired from Na-tional Uniform Service, attended Flippen United Methodist Church, enjoyed fishing, little league and Braves baseball. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ruth Cranford Strawn in 2001.
He is survived by his children, Lynn and Coy Pybus of Griffin, Charles and Angela Strawn of Stockbridge, Brad and Samantha Strawn of Hampton; special friend, Virginia McCollum of McDonough; daughters by love, Suzanne and Alan Cardin of McDonough, Karen and Terry Scarber of Stockbridge; special friends, Glen and Carolyn Black of Forest Park; grandchildren, Erin, Caleb, and Jonah Pybus, Jennifer, Mallory, and Austin Strawn, Hannah Burton and Emmalee Strawn; special grandchildren, Alex and Jacob Scarber and Micah and Bryce Cardin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Jean Strawn of Dawsonville, Dell Strawn of Hazelhurst; half-sister, Kitty Shipler of Florence, South Carolina.
Services were held July 17 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary DeMore officiating. Interment Forest Hills Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ralph Warren
Ralph Warren, age 79, of McDonough, Georgia died July 16, 2006. Mr. Warren was born
in Nahunta, the son of the late James Erwin and Lytha Jane Dowling Warren. He loved gardening, growing vegetables and fishing. He was preceded in death by his sons, David Warren and Ralph Douglas Warren; and brothers, Junie Warren and Lloyd Warren.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Evelyn (Haney) Warren; children, Betty Ann (Howard) Kerstetter of Jonesboro, Karen (Mike) Durham of Greensboro, North Carolina, Shirley Rowell of Jacksonville, Florida, James (Connie) Warren of Colombus; step-daughters, Gail (Johnny) Moore of McDonough, Donna (Roger) Attaway of McDonough, Darlene (George) Holloway of Locust Grove; sister, Sylvia Gebhart of Jacksonville, Florida; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services were held July 19 at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Dudley Rose officiating. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
