Zachry Mattox Sr.
Arthur Zachry Mattox Sr., husband of Deeonn Bryant Mattox and father of Zachry Mattox Jr., died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at West Georgia Medical Center.
Zachry Mattox, 52, was born in Hogansville where he received his primary education. He attended Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Woodward Academy in Atlanta and Troup High School. At the time of his death he was president of Propane Gas Service, a company founded by his father in 1947.
Mr. Mattox was the younger son of Mrs. Betty Matthews Mattox and the late Kendrick Ware Mattox Sr. of LaGrange. He is also survived by a brother and sister - in - law, Kendrick and Polly Mattox of LaGrange; a sister and brother - in - law, Janey Mattox Sterchi and John Sterchi of Knoxville, Tenn., an aunt, Jane Mattox Strain of Hogansville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Mattox also leaves close in - laws in LaGrange Mrs. Virginia Bryant, Garon and Diane Knopp, Mrs. Billie Kirby and Ricky and Lynn Moncus.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul R. Baxter, Dr. Walter Murphy and the Rev. Malcom Cole Davis officiating.
The family will accept the gift of flowers or donations may be made to the Mattox - Zachry Scholarship Fund at LaGrange College. They may be contacted at their home on Mooty Bridge Road.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

George Perryman
Mr. George Perryman of Smyrna, died Feb. 22 at Wellstar Cobb Hospital.
Mr. Perryman, born August 30, 1924, in Kentucky, was the son of the late Rev. J.M. and Nell Barnett Perryman. The family moved to Griffin, in 1936 where he attended Griffin High School and later Emory University. He served proudly during World War II in the Army Air Corps. The family moved to LaGrange in 1943 where his father was pastor of Dunson Methodist Church. In LaGrange Mr. Perryman met and married the love of his life, Ernestine Johnson. They were married in 1948. He accepted a position as an engineer at Lockheed Corporation in 1951 and had a distinguished career there until his retirement in 1988. He had been a member of Tillman Methodist Church in Smryna since 1956.
Mr. Perryman was well known in the field of model aeronautics, winning numerous events and trophies through the years. His success led to his being named to the Academy of Model Aeronautics Hall of Fame. He was honored by the academy as being one of the ten most influential model aircraft designers of all time.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 55 years, Ernestine Johnson Perryman; two sons and daughters - in - law, Steve and Donna Perryman; Greg and Connie Perryman; a granddaughter and her husband, Stephanie and Bill Busby; a granddaughter, Paulette Perryman of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Mary McCann of Decatur; a sister and brother - in - law, Eleanor and Morris Roberts of Dallas, Texas; a sister - in - law, Kathryn Beacham of Tucker; a brother - in - law, Larry Johnson of LaGrange; a brother - in - law, Bill Baxter of Decatur; several nieces, nephews and his beloved dog, Shadow.
A memorial service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2 at Tillman United Methodist Church in Smyrna.
Carmichael Funeral Home of Smyrna was is in charge of the arrangements.

Runette F. Smith
Mrs. Runette Fincher Smith, 69, of 3051 New Franklin Road died Thursday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Smith, born July 15, 1933, in LaGrange, was the daughter of the late Glumer Lee and Gleemah Shaw Fincher. She had lived here most of her life and retired in 1998 from J.K. Boatwright and Company. She was a member of Smyrna Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church in LaGrange.
Survivors include a son and daughter - in - law, Ken and Gail Smith of Carrollton; two grandsons and granddaughter - in - law, JohnEric and Kim Smith of Auburn, Ala., and Ethan Smith of Carrollton; a brother - in - law, Riley Golden of Tallahassee, Fla., a sister - in - law, Bobbye Holderfield Fincher of LaGrange; 17 nieces and nephews, Jennie Gray, Milton Gray, Marshall Gray and Ryan Gray, all of Tallahassee, Fla., Jeremy Golden of Ohio, Lesa Cleaveland, Chris Cleaveland, Larken Cleaveland and Jenna Cleaveland, all of LaGrange, Carole Alley, Tom Alley, Jordan Alley and Joanna Alley, all of Charlotte, N.C., Luanne Fincher and Stevie Freeman, both of Huntsville, and Heather Clark and Tristen Clark, both of Pensacola, Fla. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lee Fincher and Ruth Fincher Golden, and a brother, James Leon Fincher.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand Chapel with the Revs. Wallace Pittman Jr., Michael Powell and Curtis Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the building fund of Smyrna Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church at 3132 Hamilton Road or to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mrs. Smith.

Jeffrey G. Cooper
Jeffrey G. Cooper, 43, of 116B Wynnwood Drive died Wednesday at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
Mr. Cooper, a native of LaGrange, was the son of Willie and Annie Gamble Cooper. He attended LaGrange City Schools and was owner - operator of A - 1 Detail Shop. He was a member of Ward’s Chapel CME Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, four children, Terice and Tony Thornton of LaGrange, Britney Mitchell of Providence, R.I., Sequoia Marchman of Boston, Mass., and Matthew Cooper of Hogansville; a granddaughter, Dezirea Skye Thornton; his grandmother, Ruby Moore of LaGrange; two sisters, Dianne Bonner of Boston, Mass. and Barbara Cooper of LaGrange; a brother, Chadwick Cooper and Sharla Herring of Auburn, Ala.; a nephew, Kyle Cooper of LaGrange; six nieces, Renita Rachel, April Bonner, Bridgett Cooper, Christian Cooper, Erica Ransom, and Genesis Cooper; two great nieces, Ciherra Cooper and Anastasia Bonner; six uncles, Charles and Viola Cooper of Cleveland, Ohio, Clifford Hall of Milwaukee, Wis., Samuel and Anne Gamble of LaGrange, Thomas Gamble of Columbus, George and Jackie Stanley of Miami, Fla., and Hillard Stanley of Jacksonville, Fla., five aunts Betty Dotson of Atlanta, Emily Gamble of LaGrange, Jeanette Rosser of Greenville, Minnie Lee Stanley of Jacksonville, Fla, Willie Jean Terry of Springfield, N.Y.; and a special and devoted friend, Carolyn Smith and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Susan T. Cooper and a grandmother, Carrie Gamble.
Funerals services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint James CME Church on Revis Street with the Revs. T.D. Brown, W.E. Spratling and Perry Broughton officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of his parents, Annie and Willie Cooper at 910 Colquitt St.

Gene Hearn
Buford Eugene (Gene) Hearn, 70, of Wedowee, Ala., died Monday at East Alabama Medical Center.
Mr. Hearn, born Aug. 11, 1932, was the son of Paul Thomas and Ruby Adams Hearn. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Delta Airlines after 35 years. He a member of Roanoke Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Morrow Heard o Wedowee, Ala.; three daughters, Linda Hearn of McDonough, Linda and Mark Winters of Pleasant View, Tenn., and Rebecca and Brad Martin of Bartlett, Tenn; four sisters, Merle Higgins of Stockbridge, Eloise Wingo of LaGrange, Jewel Smith of Centerville, and Hazel Ray of McDonough; three brothers, Thomas Hearn of McDonough, Sanford Hearn of Brooks, and Roe Hearn of Morrow; six grandchildren; a step grandson; a step great - granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Roanoke Church of Christ with Brother Gerald Romine officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memory Gardens. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral home in Wedowee from 2:00 until 5:00 this afternoon.
Memorials may be floral or the family suggest contributions to The Children's Home, Raintree Village, Inc. 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, Ga. 31601.

James T. Melton
James Thomas Melton, 65, of Wedowee, Ala., died Sunday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Melton, born Feb. 25, 1938, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of William Riley and Mable McLeroy Melton. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church and was employed with Franklin Tool and Die.
Survivors include a son and daughter - in - law, Jamie and Cheryl Melton of LaGrange; two grandchildren, Stephan and Riley Melton; and a special friend, Dorothy Smith of Wedowee.
Funeral services will be this afternoon at 2:00 at Midway United Methodist Church with the Rev, Johnny Foster officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Chip Cofield, David Cofield, Rusty Sanders and Jack Cross.
Memorial may be floral or the family suggest contributions to Hospice LaGrange or Midway Church Building Fund.
Benefield Funeral Home in Wedowee is in charge of arrangements.

Kartha Lee Newson, of New Brittain, Conn., died Sunday at New Brittain General Hospital.
He was the son of Linda Newson and the brother of the Rev. James Newson.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in New Brittain with the Rev. James Newson officiating.

Wayne L. Holland
Wayne, L. Holland, 56, of 301 Eichelberger Road died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Holland, born Dec. 27, 1946, in the Abbottsford Community, was the son of Elizabeth L. Towler of LaGrange and the late Raymond Holland. He had lived here all his life, was a 1965 graduate of Troup High School and was a Marine Corps veteran. He was a maintenance person at Highland Marina and was formerly employed at Interface Flooring. He was a member of Troup County Saddle Club.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Frances H. Holland of LaGrange; a son, Randall Holland, of LaGrange; two daughters, Teresa Bailey of LaGrange and Tammy and Jackie Spradlin of Franklin; a granddaughter, Lacy Beth Fowler of Franklin; a brother - in - law and sister - in - law, Dewey and Margaret Henderson of Opelika, Ala; a nephew, Tim Wood of LaGrange; a niece, Tabitha Whaley of LaGrange; and the mother of his son, Linda Holland of LaGrange. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Wood.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Revs. Sidney Shelnutt and Brian Geter officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at his home and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 7 until 9.
Flowers will be accepted or those desiring may contribute to the Troup County Saddle Club or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

William Munzert, Jr.
William J. Munzert Jr. 72, of Columbus, died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus.
Mr. Munzert, bon Oct. 4, 1930, in Rochester, N.Y., was the son of Monica Horsman Munzert Gagnon of Longwood, Fla., and the late William J. Munzert Sr. HE had lived in Columbus for the past 20 years where he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He retired after 36 years with Rochester Products, a division of General Motors. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Nancy Taskett Munzert of Columbus; children, Beth Smith of Mamouth, Ore., John Munzert of Pine Mountain, Cathy and David Ernisse of Rochester, N.Y., and Mariann Munzert of Columbus, and Carolann hatcher of Lagrange; a brother Thomas Munzert of Macedon, N.Y.; a sister, Nancy and Ralf Carriuolo; 16 grandchildren; three nephews; an aunt, Voila Donahue Rochester, N.Y. and several cousins.
A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Frank Patterson officiating.
A rosary will be said Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at Striffler - Hamby Mortuary Macon Road Chapel in Columbus preceding the visitation.
