Audrey Y. Janney
Mrs. Audrey Y. Janney, 89, of LaGrange died Tuesday at Brian Center.
Mrs. Janney, born July 13, 1913, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Jim and Ollie Lewis Young. She had lived here most of her life, retired from the Hillside Plant of Callaway Mills in 1972 and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Annette and T.L. Thomas of Whitesburg and Linda J. and Charles A. Smith of LaGrange; a son, William Arnold and Barbara Janney of Five Points, Ala., a daughter - in - law, Katie Janney of LaGrange; a sister, Bertha Huey of Tallassee, Ala.; ten grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; four great - great - grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Janney; a son, Rev. James Janney; and a grandson, Doug Phillips.
Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home with the Rev. S. T. Janney officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Linda Smith, at 1272 Salem Road and will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 6 until 8.

David Battle
David Battle of 3182 Cameron Mill Road died Tuesday at West Georgia Medical Center.
The family will be at his home.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home.

Leon Neese
James Leon Neese, 84, devoted husband of 61 years and loving father to his four daughters, died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Neese, born Aug. 4, 1918, in Moultrie, was the son of the late James Lewis and Grace Beatrice Kilgore Neese. He was the owner and operator of Leon Neese Service Station and Garage for 26 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square, where he was a member of the Pilot Sunday School Class, Elm City Lodge #544, Free and Accepted Masons, and a former member of the Civitan Club. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is described by his family as a devoted and caring father, grandfather, great - grandfather and father - in - law.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Bailey Neese of LaGrange; four daughters and sons - in - law, Anne Neese and Tony Garrett of Thomasville, Pamela Neese and Al LaRue of Thomaston, Barbara (Bobbe) Neese and Doug Pharr of Smyrna, and Mary Frances Neese and David Hodges of Montgomery, Ala.; grandchildren and their spouses, Tonya Garrett and Eddie Hodges of Daytona Beach, Fla., DeNeese Garrett and Gene Sampson of Thomasville, Ansley Garrett of Thomasville, Vickie LaRue of Bolingbroke, Stephanie LaRue of Smyrna, Jeff and Merri Pharr of Lexington, Va., Ryan Pharr of Atlanta, Angelia Lawson of Mobile, Ala., and Cheri Hodges of Montgomery, Ala.; great - grandchildren, Taylor Hodges and Hannah Hodges of Daytona Beach, Fla., Sophi Sampson of Thomasville, Lauren Lawson of Mobile and Thomas Pharr of Lexington, Va.; sisters, Edna Grace Workman of Valley, Ala., and Mary Jim Yarbrough of Warner Robins; brother, Thomas Neese of Wauconda Ill.; a stepsister, Vivian Johnson of LaGrange; and a stepbrother, Charles Shephard of Valley, Ala.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday Feb. 20, 2003, in the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Ronnie Puckett officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
Striffler - Hamby Mortuary at 1010 Mooty Bridge Road is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Plumia Burts
Mrs. Plumia Luceil Brewer Burts, 85, of 617 Snelson St., died Saturday at Florence Hand Home.
Mrs. Burts, born April 30, 1917, in Glenn, was the daughter of the late John and Anna Seay Brewer. She retired as a nurse aide at Brian Center and loved working in nursing, and caring for people. She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters Willie Belle Taylor, and Mary Joyce Burts; two sons, John and Minnie Burts and Nathaniel Burts, all of LaGrange; a grandson, Christopher Darnell Taylor of LaGrange; three granddaughters, Anetrice Richelle Burts of Panama City, Fla., Carol Denise Taylor and Valerie Nicole Taylor, both of LaGrange; a great - grandson, Reggie Burts of Panama City, Fla.; four sisters - in - law, Aggie La Rue of Inglewood, Calif., Corine Stevenson of Kansas City, Mo., Martha Dukes of Flint, Mich., and Annie Mae Glenn of LaGrange; three brothers - in - law, Amos and Pauline Burts of Detroit, Mich., David and Bessie Burts and Andrew Burts, all of LaGrange; and numerous nieces, nephews, great - nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Battle Burts and eight siblings.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Arbor Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 200 Brown St., with the Rev. W.T. Edmondson officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will be at her home.
Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Lee Bailey
Mrs. Annie Lee (Ann) Bailey, 80, of 707 LaRose Terrace died Monday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Bailey, born January 13, 1923, in Randolph County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Luther and Lura Whitmore Cofield. She had lived here most of her life. She and her husband lived throughout Michigan, California and Texas during and after World War II in which she served her country as a Rosie the Riveter. They returned to LaGrange to raise their family, where she later owned and operated a florist’ business, Ann Bailey’s Flowers and Gifts, for 42 years. As a member of Franklin Road Baptist Church and of the Troup and Heard County communities, she delighted in providing pretty flowers and her signature sweet touch to all her friend’s and customer’s needs. She loved travel, people, family and a good joke. She will be greatly missed and remembered in peace. She lived her life to the fullest with a big heart.
Survivors include her husband, Huey G. (Sam) Bailey of LaGrange; three children and their spouses, Jim and Carol Bailey of Gabbettville, Sammy and Dianne Bailey of Franklin, and Dolly and Rob Fowler of LaGrange; eight grandchildren and a spouse, Crista Bailey, Jamie Bailey, Sammy Jr. and Tammy Bailey, Michael Bailey, Keith Bailey, Karen Bailey, Amanda Nicholson and Samantha Nicholson; two great - grandchildren; a sister, Maryjane Embry of LaGrange; two brothers, Hope Cofield and Danny Cofield, both of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Cofield.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin Road Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmie L. Willis and R. C. Prescott officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at her home and will receive friends this evening at Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home from 7 until 9.
Flowers will be welcomed, or those desiring may contribute to Hospice LaGrange in memory of Mrs. Bailey.

Miss Verma E. Harris
Miss Verma E. Harris, 91, of Hogansville died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Miss Harris was born in Heard County on Aug. 25, 1911, daughter of the late William Edward Harris and the late Martha Eleanor Norwood Harris. She had lived most of her life in Hogansville, where she was a member of Highland Baptist Church. She had retired from the Hillside Division of Milliken and Co.
Survivors include five nieces, Nancy Gillam of West Point, Eleanor Maxham of Lynchburg, Va., Frances Stanford of Pine Mountain, Mary Eleanor Robinson of LaGrange and Margaret Orr of Newnan.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ola Mae Sims
Mrs. Ola Mae Sims of LaGrange died Saturday at Twin Fountains Home.
Mrs. Sims was born on March 30, 1920 in Coweta County, daughter of the late Alvin and Beulah Furlow. A Baptist, she had lived most of her life in Troup County where she was employed by WestPoint Pepperell Manufacturing Co. She was the wife of the late Alvin Sims.
Survivors include one daughter, Beulah Cato of LaGrange; one son and daughter - in - law, Douglas and Sandy Sims of LaGrange; nine grandchildren; and 14 - great - grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John Alvin Sims, and a daughter, Nellie Edwards.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 until 9 p.m. today and Monday.

Mrs. Sally F. Riggins
Mrs. Sally F. Riggins died Thursday at Twin Fountains Home.
Mrs. Riggins, a Troup County native, was the daughter of the late Robert and Sally Jackson Ferrell, and wife of the late James Riggins Jr.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel of West Georgia Mortuary with the Rev. Felix Worthen officiating. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
Survivors include four nieces, Mrs. Dorothy (Walter) Burden, Mrs. Irene Bass, Mrs. Mary Joyce Boyd, all of LaGrange, and Mrs. Neather (Edgar) Tolbert of Columbus; two nephews, Tyrone (Charlie Mae) Ferrell of Shiloh, and Virgil Ferrell of Atlanta; and several other relatives.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Burden at 114 Royal Court.

Mrs. Zell Tarrance Craft
Mrs. Zell Tarrance Craft, 88, of Hogansville died Saturday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Craft, wife of the late Bryant Craft, was born on Sept. 8, 1914 in Mississippi, but had lived most of her life in Hogansville, where she was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She had retired from Uniroyal, Inc., after 41 years’ service.
Survivors include a daughter and son - in - law, Nita and Pete Windsor of Moreland; a grandson and his wife, Chris and Jan Windsor of Austin, Texas; a granddaughter and her husband, Kittie and Randall Duncan of Moreland; five great - grandchildren, Seth Duncan and Kristal Duncan, both of Moreland, Stephen Windsor, Anna Windsor and Zachary Windsor, all of Austin; and two sisters, Ann Tarrance of Tupelo, Miss., and Willodean Tarrance of Pensacola, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Jerry Eley officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 7 o’clock this evening.
