Charlotte A. Grice
Charlotte A. Grice, 53, of 229 Poplar Circle died Thursday in Newnan.
Mrs. Grice, born Nov. 6, 1949, was the daughter of Jim J. Pressley and the late Ressie LeMerla Brown Pressley. She had lived here most of her life and was employed at Freu - denberg NOK for 23 years.
Survivors in addition to her father of LaGrange, include two daughters and sons - in - law, Vicki and J.M. Johnson and Shalet Grice and Chad Moore, all of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Josh Baker, Hannah Johnson, Jagger Johnson, Katie Moore, Brian Moore and Ansley Moore, all of LaGrange; a brother and sister - in - law, Mike and Reba Pressley of LaGrange; very special friends, Jim Shepard and Elizabeth Mann, both of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and brother, Alan Pressley.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand Chapel with the Rev. Franklin Treadwell officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter and son - in - law, Vicki and J.M. Johnson, at 124 Cameron Pointe Drive and will receive friends until the funeral hour.

Jackie Dozier
Jackie Lavern Dozier, 49, of 3257 Washington Road, East Point, died Dec. 25 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point.
Mr. Dozier was born April 12, 1953 in Troup County. He was the son of the late Harvey Dozier Sr. and Mary Gholston Dozier. He attended Kelley Grammar Elementary in LaGrange. Upon moving to Atlanta, he completed his elementary education at the C.A. Pitts School and was a 1972 graduate of S.H. Archer High School. He worked for the City of Atlanta and was retired due to disability. He was married
to Miss Christie Anderson.
Survivors include one son, Maurice Dozier; a devoted sister, Gwendolyn A. Dozier; two brothers, Harvey Dozier Jr. and Larry D. Dozier; four uncles, six aunts; one great - aunt, Mrs. Surlener G. Williams; nieces; nephews and other relatives.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Mackey - Wilson - Jennings Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. W.T. Edmondson will officiate. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.
The family will assemble at the funeral home and will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Edward Hester Sr.
Edward Hester Sr., 74, of 312 Waverly Way died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Hester, born Dec. 26, 1928, in Randolph County, was the son of the late William Garland and Clara Roberts Hester. He had lived here 55 years and was the owner and operator of J.E. Hester and Sons Contractors. He was a member of First Assembly of God and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Hester of LaGrange; two daughters and sons - in - law, Patricia and David England of Lanett, Ala. and Jean and Danny Farmer of Newnan; three sons and daughters - in - law, Eddie and Denise Hester of Phenix City, Ala., Doug and Teresa Hester and Keith and Donna Hester, all of LaGrange; 14 grandchildren; two great - grandchildren; a stepbrother and his wife, Lewis and Huldah Yarbrough of Phenix City, Ala. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Bernice Hester, a brother, Earl Hester, and a stepsister, Eunice Norred.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Assembly of God with Pastor Ben Cotton, Pastor Lane Farley, and Pastor Andrew Overby officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at his home at 312 Waverly Way and will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lisa R. Calhoun
Lisa Renee Calhoun, 36, of LaGrange died Friday of injuries received in an automobile accident near LaGrange.
Born Oct. 3, 1966, in Atlanta, Mrs. Calhoun had lived in Troup County for the past 20 years and was a member of the Baptist church. She owned and operated the Hair Jungle Salon in LaGrange.
Survivors include a daughter, Savannah Smith and a son, Cole Calhoun, both of LaGrange; her mother and stepfather, Susan and Randy Able of Greenville; her father, Sonny Dean of Marietta; a brother and sister - in - law, Casey and Linda Dean of Warm Springs; and her step - grandmother, Frances Robinson of Hogansville.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Dr. Billy Burks will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Nellie B. Freeman
Mrs. Nellie Boatner Freeman, 94, of Gay, formerly of LaGrange died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs. Freeman, born Feb. 24, 1908, in Pell City, Ala., was the daughter of the late Fred and Emily McDougal Boatner. She had lived here most of her life and was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School approximately 50 years and was a member of the Emeritus - Order of Eastern Star #32
Survivors include two children, Jesse William Freeman of Gay and Bonita Freeman Bishop of LaGrange; a sister, Inez Childs of Decatur; 17 grandchildren; 32 great - grandchildren; and nine great - great - grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Madison Freeman and two sons, Johnny Fred Freeman and James Madison Freeman.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand Funeral Chapel with Bro. Clayton Scott and Bro. Scott Russell officiating. Burial will be in the Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Bonita Freeman Bishop at 206 East Lakeview Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Christine Maddox
Miss Christine (“Putting Nig”) Maddox, 80, of 208 Clearview Court, died Monday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Miss Maddox, a native of Troup County, was the daughter of the late will and Mary Sue Maddox. She was a member and former cafeteria worker in the LaGrange School System. Miss Maddox was a member of Burks Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and a son - in - law, Phyllis and Larry Haynes and Dorothy Mae Maddox, all of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, Chris Maddox, Monica Maddox, Orlando Harris, Delton Maddox, Stephanie Harris, Demon Maddox, Demetris Maddox, and Shamika Maddox, all of LaGrange; eight great - grandchildren; two sisters, Willie Mae (Kelley) Martin of LaGrange and Mary Graham of Detroit, Mich.; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her son, Arthur “Tula” Maddox and her devoted friend, Sam Love.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burks Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lenton Snow officiating. Burial will be in the Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at their home.

Clyde Hearn
Clyde Hearn, 65, of 326 Daniel St., died Dec. 21, 2002 at Hospice LaGrange.
Mr. Hearn, born Feb. 6, 1937, in Troup County, was the son of the late Paul and Maggie Hearn. He was a mechanic and a life - long resident of LaGrange and employee of the Henry Abernathy Service Station for nearly 40 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy and Willie Dunlap; four stepchildren, Jeraldine Green, Retha Green, Angie and Rency Carreker, and Sarah Gates, all of LaGrange; three grandchildren, Bernard, Michael, and Felicia, all of LaGrange; a brother, Stonewall and Gennie Hearn of Phoenix, Ariz.; 17 stepchildren; special friends, Ms. Doris Green, Ms. Mildred Lee Harris, Ms. Lillie Pearl Smith, and Johnnie B. Persons; sisters - in - law, Mrs. Anna Hearn and Mrs. Lula Pearl Hearn, both of LaGrange; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Rising Grove Baptist Church, 209 East Crovat St. with the Rev. Jesse Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Southview Cemetery.
The family will be at the residence of his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Dorothy) Dunlap of 603 Colquitt St.

Marion F. Whitten
Marion Frank Whitten, 70, of 2267 Hamilton Road, died Thursday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Mr. Whitten, born Nov. 24, 1932, in Meriwether County, was the son of the late Roy and Margaret Irene Fuller Whitten. He had lived here all of his life and was retired.
Survivors include four sisters, Margaret Westberry, Jackie Griffin, Linda Stephenson, and Ima Jean Sampson, all of LaGrange; five stepchildren; several grandchildren and great - grandchildren; and two brothers, Paul Whitten of St. Marks Community and Gordon Whitten of Hogansville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Lucille Whitten.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Meadoway Gardens with Pastor Steven Cole officiating.
The family will be at the home of his sister and brother - in - law, Linda and David Stephenson at 1660 Smokey Road and will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday.

Rev. Elijah Jackson Jr.
Rev. Elijah Jackson Jr., 69, of 133 Brenda Blvd., died, Dec. 15, 2002 at West Georgia Medical Center.
Rev. Jackson, born January 27, 1933, in Winston Salem, N.C., was the son of the late Elijah Sr. and Mary Ferrell Jackson. He was a retired clergyman.
Rev. Jackson was the former pastor of First Baptist Church on Fannin Street and retired as pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Miss.
Rev. Jackson was a graduate of Tennessee State University and Morehouse School of Religion in Atlanta. He was awarded Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Union Baptist Seminary in Birmingham, Ala., and Natchez College in Natchez, Miss.
Rev. Jackson was a United States Army veteran earning the rank of SP3, before receiving an honorable discharge. His ministry and community work are extensive and varied, having served as director of Dorchester Center in McIntosh, before accepting the pastorate of First Baptist Church on Fannin Street. After leaving First Baptist Church, he served as pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Miss.
Rev. Jackson was on the Executive Board of the Troup County Coalition, the National and Georgia Foster Parents Association, President of the LaGrange Ministerial Association, the Troup County NAACP and the State Director, State of Georgia, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He also served on the Board of Directors of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. as well as the Mississippi Baptist Seminary where he served as President.
Survivors include a devoted wife, Mrs. Willie Mae Jackson of LaGrange; two sisters, Mrs. Victoria Speace of Winston, Salem, NC., and Mrs. Lillie Mae Gibson of Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, James Jackson and Donald Jackson of Winston Salem and David L. and Janie Jackson of Felton, Del; daughter, Gloria J. Bennett of LaGrange; a son, Daniel L. Jackson of Meridian, Miss.; grandson, Andre R. Bennett of LaGrange; granddaughter, Kariman T. Jackson of Merdian. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as four siblings.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at the Warren Temple United Methodist Church at 416 East Depot St. The Rev. Bettye Holland, Pastor of Warren Temple and Dr. N.Q. Reynolds of 17th St. Baptist Church in Anniston, Ala. will officiate. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity will do rites today at 6:30 p.m. at Lakes - Dunson - Robertson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends today at the funeral from 7 to 8 p.m. This is not a wake.
