Mrs. Bertha Lamken
Mrs. Bertha Crowder Lamken, 94, of Pine Mountain, died July 20 at his residence.
Mrs. Lamken, born February 23, 1908, in Chambers County, Ala., was the daughter of the late Dosia Cook Crowder and Henry G. Crowder.
Mrs. Lamken was a graduate of Lanett High School and attended a business school. She was a homemaker and had been active in her church.
Mrs. Lamken was a sales associate in a department store in New Jersey and later worked as a librarian. She worked for Interstate Telephone Company in West Point and was a lover of art and music.
Survivors include her husband, Jack W. Lamken of Pine Mountain; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Marseilles cemetery in West Point with the Rev. Tom Taylor officiating.
The family will receive friends at McCarthy Funeral Home tonight from 6 to 8.
Flowers will be accpeted or memorials may be made to Vista Care Hospice Foundation, Columbus in memory of Mrs. Lamken.

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Favors of 935 Borton St., died today at Florence Hand Nursing Home.

Mrs. Sara Herbener
Mrs. Sara Goolsby Traylor Herbener, 84, of Thomaston, Ga., died Sunday at Upson Regional Medical Center, Thomaston.
Mrs. Herbener, born October 15, 1917, in Woodland, was the daughter of the late Julian Riley Goolsby and Florence Hendricks Goolsby. She was a public school kindergarten teacher.
Mrs. Herbener, a native of Talbot County and a resident of Upson County for 67 years. She retired after 25 years as a kindergarten teacher and was a member of Antioch United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and president of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her husband, Mr. William J. Herbener of Thomaston; two daughters and sons - in - law, Mrs. Barbara Traylor (Hugh) Dunn of Greenville and Mrs. Vanita Traylor (Billy) Maxwell of Climax; a step - daughter, Mrs. Lucille Herbener Lipscomb of Kingsville, Texas; a stepson, Mr. Thomas Herbener of Goodyear, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Frances Goolsby Sosebee of Columbus; several grandchildren, great - grandchildren, step - grandchildren, and step - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Antioch United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Duke officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Methodist Cemetery, Thomaston.

Rev. Russell Simpson
Rev. Russell W. Simpson, 84, died Sunday at West Georgia Medical Center.
Rev. Simpson, born March 7, 1918, in Randolph County, Ala., was the son of late Willie and Katie Cofield Simpson. Rev. Simpson was a minister over 50 years and retired from Bethel Chapel Baptist Church.
In the past he served Oak Grove Baptist, Louise Baptist, and assistant pastor of East LaGrange Baptist. Rev. Simpson was a Mason and member of Elm City Lodge #544.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Flora Harvell Simpson; three daughters and two sons - in - law, Bobby and Rebecca Mauldin of Dothan, Ala., Joe and Shirley Thrower of LaGrange, Susan Sherrod of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, Cindy Miller of Montgomery, Ala., Rusty Breed of Fayetteville, Tony Thrower of Liberty, S.C., Lee Cottle of Roanoke, Ala., Kelly Wilson, Shea Reynolds, and Michelle Emory, all of LaGrange; eight great - grandchildren; three brothers, Morris Simpson of Roanoke, Euris Simpson, and Jim Simpson, both of LaGrange; two sisters, Kate Grant of LaGrange, Dessie B. Dodgen of Roanoke, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Rev. Simpson will be today at 3 p.m. in the Striffler - Hamby Mortuary chapel with the Revs. Aaron McCollough and Vernon Prather officiating. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Terrell Williams
James Terrell Williams, 70, of 2581 Crescent Road, Navarre, Fla., formerly of LaGrange, died Saturday at his home.
Mr. Williams, born October 4, 1931, in LaGrange, was the son of the late Gussie James and Sallie Mae Williams.
He lived in LaGrange until 1996 and retired as owner of West Georgia Collections. He was a former member of Highland Country Club and LaGrange Jaycees. Mr. Williams was a United States Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Corinne Williams of Navarre, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Henry Duke of Birmingham, Ala., and Jodi and Joe Brazell of LaGrange; seven grandchildren, Ashley Keel, Beau Keel, and Brian Keel, all of Birmingham, Joseph Alise, Joseph Brazell, Hunter Brazell, and Hayley Brazell, all of LaGrange; four step - grandchildren and their spouses, JoAnne and Bobby Salter of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Karen and Paul Bowers of Birmingham, Ala., Thaddeus and Donna Nobles, and Philip Nobles of, all Pensacola, Fla.; step - grandchildren, Jennifer and Chuck Hartsfield and Alexia Bowers, all of Birmingham, Ala., Grant and Cam Salter of New Smrna Beach, Fla., Ashton Salter and Addison Salter, both of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Ariston Bowers of Virginia, Heather Moore, Ashley Nobles, and Misty Nobles, all of Texas; a step - great - grandson, Hudson Hartsfield of Birmingham; a stepbrother, Donald Swann; and a very close friend, Willie J. (Bubba) Easter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn W. Williams and stepbrother, Rodney Swann.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. in the Hunter - Allen - Myhand chapel with the Rev. Max McCord officiating. Entombment will be in Shadowlawn Mausoleum. After the service today the family will be at the home of his daughter and son - in - law, Jodi and Joe Brazell, 105 Lismore Drive.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 12 noon until 2 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 2001 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, Fla. in memory of Mr. Williams.

Catherine Longsworth
Mrs. Catherine M. Longsworth, 56 - year - old resident of LaGrange, died Thursday at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Longsworth was born July 10, 1946 in Glasgow, Scotland and was the daughter of the late John and Catherine McPherson Stewart. She attended the Gray Hill Baptist Church and was a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
She is survived by three daughters, Marvyl Longsworth of Glasgow, Scotland, Johan and Charlie Thornton of LaGrange and Michelle Hartman of LaGrange; three sons, Jeffery Longsworth of LaGrange, Kevin and Angie Longsworth and Stewart Longsworth, all of Wapakoneta, Ohio; one sister, Joy Jamieson of Glasgow, Scotland; seven grandchildren, Della, Cord, Ashley, Jessica, Dee, Briana and Ciera; special friends, Marco Martinez of LaGrange and Carl and Karen Longsworth of Lima, Ohio.
Memorial services will be held Monday evening at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Striffler - Hamby Mortuary with the Rev. Jimmy Pruitt officiating. The family will receive friends this afternoon from 3 to 5 at the funeral home.

Joe Britton
Longtime Alaskan Joe Britton, 89, died July 18 at Providence Hospital.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. July 23 at First United Methodist Church, 9th and G Street in Anchorage.
Mr. Britton was born in Columbus June 25, 1913. He married
Emily, his wife of 67 years, in 1935. They moved to Alaska for a year in 1951 and returned for good in 1957.
Mr. Britton joined the Civil Aeronautics Administration (predecessor of the Federal Aviation Administration) in 1941 and worked for the FAA until retiring in 1973. He was justifiably proud of his pioneering work in air traffic control and aviation development in Alaska. He was instrumental in the air traffic control development between Alaska and the Orient that made Anchorage the 'Air Corssroads of the World, was the FAA representative for two atomic tests on Amchitka, and helped establish air traffic facilities and routes for development of the North Slope. He worked in towers on Annette Island, Merrill Field and Anchorage International Airport, the Anchorage Air Traffic Control Center, taught international students at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma, and ended his career at the FAA Alaska Region Headquarters.
After his retirement for the FAA, Mr. Britton sold real estate, commercial fished and traveled extensively. He was a long - time member of the Methodist church in Anchorage, Air Traffic Control Association, AARP, Anchorage Senior Center an was a Mason.
His family will most remember that he was a truly devoted husband and father. He was always an involved member of his church and the community. He was friendly and hospitable to everyone and this earned him the respect and friendship of people around the world. He loved to travel and had an active intellect and inquiring mind until the end.
Survivors include his wife, Emily; two sons and their spouses, Wayne and Nancy Britton, Joe M. Britton and Camille Rodrigues; grandchildren, Brent, Rebecca, Galen and Erin Britton and Devin Gregg and her husband, Patrick; great - grandchildren, Cameron and Dalton Gregg, all of Anchorage; brother and sister - in - law, Charles and Margaret Maddox of LaGrange.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the First Methodist Church of Anchorage, Alaska Pacific University or a favorite charity.

Maj. Charles Wooten
Major Charles Lanier Wooten, 68, (U.S. Army - retired), husband of Mrs. Marcia Griffin Wooten, died Thursday at Baptist Medical Center - Nassau as a result of Leukemia.
A native of Shelman, Ga., Mr. Wooten was the son of the late Robert Council Wooten and Johnnie Bell Lanier Wooten. He resided in LaGrange, after relocating from Dawson, Ga. Mr. Wooten and his wife had a summer home in Fernandina Beach, Fla., where they enjoyed the ocean.
Mr. Wooten received his education at Georgia Military College, Georgia Military Academy, the University of Georgia and St. Leo's College in Florida. He served his country in the United States Army for 25 years and saw action in both Korea and Vietnam.
Mr. Wooten was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery while in Vietnam. He was an avid golfer and member of the Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course, Highland Country Club in LaGrange and the St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
Survivors besides his wife of 47 years, include his children and their spouses, Lane (Lisa) Wooten, Bill (Maggie) Wooten, all of LaGrange, and Dr. Anne (Ron) Prescott of Douglasville; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with The Rev. Hazel Smith Glover officiating. Major Wooten will receive full military honors from the United States Army. Interment will follow the memorial service in the St. Mark's Church Columbarium.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Major Wooten's name to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, North Greenwood St., LaGrange, Ga. 30240 or to the Leukemia Society of America, 1311 Mamaroneck Ave., White Plains, NY 10605.

Mrs. Rebecca Sands
Mrs. Rebecca Hamer Sands of LaGrange, formerly of the Jones Cross Roads area, died Friday evening at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Alonza Eugene and Edna V. Hunter Hamer and was preceded in death by her husband, Olin Sands, and by two children, Buddy and Roy Sands. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. from the Union Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Union Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Sands.
