Clinton Hall
HARTWELL - Clinton Parks Hall, 91, of the Hart Care Center in Hartwell, formerly of 948 Parhamtown Rd., Royston, died April 24, 2004 at the Hart Care Center.
A native of Madison County, he was born June 24, 1912 to the late Lindsey and Addie Christian Hall. The retired farmer was the husband of the late Hattie Dixon Hall and a member of the New Bethel Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son - in - law, Willa and Talmadge Dove of Anderson, S.C.; grandson Chris Dove and his wife, Kim of Anderson; great grandchildren, Hunter Parks Dove and Ellie Grace Dove of Anderson; brother, Watson Hall, Royston; and sister, Geneva Ray, Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Herbert Hall; and sister, Mylitie Smith.
Funeral services were held April 26, 2004 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Ty Sorrow and Kenneth Vanderford officiated. Burial followed in the New Bethel Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.
Billy J. Thomason
CARNESVILLE - Billy James Thomason, 8, of Hwy 198, died April 20, 2004 at the Ty Cobb Health Care Center in Royston, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
The son of James Thomason and Mary Jean Sellers Ledford was born June 30, 1995 in Stephens County. Billy was a third grade student at Carnesville Elementary School.
Survivors include his parents, James Thomason and Mary Jean Sellers Ledford of the home; sisters, Heather Thomason of the home, Christie Augustus of Toccoa, and Stacey Ledford of Carnesville; and grandparents, Jeanette Thomason, and Mary and James Stowe, all of Carnesville.
The Rev. Dr. Tommy Childress officiated at the funeral services, held April 25, 2004 at the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree - Davis Funeral Home in Toccoa. Interment will be held in the New Bethel Baptist Church cemetery at a later date.
Clarence Strickland
CANON - Clarence Clifton Strickland, 71, of 5699 New Franklin Church Rd., died April 23, 2004 at Hartwell Health Care Center.
The Belton, S.C. native was born Aug. 18, 1932 to the late Clarence Alonzo and Elsie Phillips Strickland. He was a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked in the construction industry. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by brothers, Billy Strickland of Canon, and Marvin Strickland of Greenville, S.C.; sister, Betty Jo Eustace of Clinton, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Steven Strickland; and brother, Robert Lee Strickland.
Funeral services were held April 25, 2004 in the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral Home in Westminster, S.C. Burial followed in the Bowers Memorial Park in Canon.
Lila Hendrix
ROYSTON - Lila Moon Hendrix, 83, of 79 Hendrix Rd., died April 22, 2004 at her daughter’s home.
A native of Madison County, she was born Nov. 17, 1920 to the late John Bill and Bessie Moon. She was the wife of J.D. Hendrix, was a retired inspector from Oxford Manufacturing, and was a member of New Bethel Congregational Holiness Church.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include daughter and son - in - law, Stephanie and Leon Rousey of Royston; niece Linda Fortson and her husband, Lamar, Danielsville; brothers, Lee Moon and Haskel Moon, both of Anderson, S.C.; sisters, Lucy Pulliam, and Ruby Vaughn, both of Royston; and several nieces and nephews.
The Revs. Bruce Kesler and Raymond Duncan officiated at the funeral services, held April 24, 2004 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the New Bethel Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.

Sidney Carey
ROYSTON - Sidney Carey of the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston, died April 25, 2004.
The daughter of the late Lee Anderson and Lou Jimmie Stovall Jordan, and the wife of the late Junius Asbury Carey, was born in Franklin County on March 11, 1915. She was a retired nurse, having worked at the Royston Medical Associates, and was a member of the Royston Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons, Jimmy and Jerry Carey, both of Royston; six grandchildren, 15 great - grandchildren, and six great - great - grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Steve, George, and Lee Jordan; and sisters, Francis Barton, Sarah Roach, and Luna Mae Adams.
Funeral services were held April 27, 2004 at the Royston Baptist Church. Dr. Danny Barton and the Rev. Malcolm Herndon officiated. Burial followed in the Rose Hill cemetery in Royston.

Nicole Coutant Kress
WONDERVU, COLO. - Nicole Coutant Kress, 34, of Wondervu, Colo., died April 15, 2004 of injuries sustained in a car accident in Coal Creek Canyon.
The daughter of Gerald and Fern Woodard Coutant was born April 19, 1969 in Libby, Mont. She was the wife of Jerome S. Kress and was employed as a graphic artist at eTrinsic in Louisville, Colo. She was a member of the Colorado Bluegrass Society and Swallowhill Music Association.
Survivors include her parents, Gerald and Fern Woodard Coutant of Royston; husband, Jerome S. Kress of Wondervu; brother, Derek N. Coutant of Orange Park, Fla.; sister, Keely Sottovia of Baton Rouge, La.; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by a nephew, Stacy Williamson.
The Rev. Forrest Whitman officiated at the outdoor memorial service, held April 21, 2004, at the Axton Ranch.

Leonard Royston
ROYSTON - Leonard Carlton Royston, 36, of 400 Shirley Rd., died June 13, 2004.
The Clarke County native was born Sept. 9, 1967 to Nathaniel (Than) and Gail Cromer Royston. He worked as a truck driver.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by daughter, Brittany Gail Royston of Canon; brothers, Leslie and Nathan Royston, both of Royston; and special friend, Vickie Pullian.
The Revs. James Gunn and Johnny Stowe officiated at the funeral services, held June 17, 2004 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
Lonnie Randall Elrod
HULL - Lonnie Randall Elrod, 52, of Glenn Carrie Rd., died June 15, 2004.
A native of Jackson County, he was the son of Emma Greene Elrod and the late Lonnie Fred Elrod, and was employed by Power Partners Services. He was a charter member of the Hull Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Hull Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother, Emma Greene Elrod of Hull; brothers and sisters - in - law, Edward and Pat Elrod, and David and Barbara Elrod; nieces, Angela Elrod and Amy Elrod, both of Charlotte, N.C., and Melanie and Melissa Elrod, both of Hull.
Funeral services were held June 18, 2004 at Hull Baptist Church. The Revs. Randy Crowe and Terry Smith officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery
Kathleen Hailey Brewer
HARTWELL - Kathleen Mauldin Hailey Brewer, 86, of E. Franklin St., died June 15, 2004 at Hart Care Center in Hartwell.
The daughter of the late Marvin McSwain Mauldin and Emma Claudia Bruce Mauldin was born in Elbert County and was twice married, first to the late William H. Haley and second to the late Rev. James Brewer. She was a retired seamstress from Hartwell Garment Co. and was a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, William “Bill” Haley and Harold “Randy” Haley, both of Hartwell, and Fred M. Haley of Greenville, S.C.; daughter, Sandra K. Kerr, St. Augustine, Fla.; brothers, Harold Mauldin, Atlanta, Levis Mauldin, Elberton, and Cooley Mauldin, Dewy Rose; sisters, Mary Sue Bruce and Jamie Dixon, both of Elberton; nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren .
The Revs. Dan Bailey and Doug Brown officiated at the services, held June 19, 2004, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home. Burial followed in Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
Sallie Gaines
HARTWELL - Sallie M. Gaines, 92, of 3431 Cokesbury Hwy., died June 18, 2004 at her residence.
Born Oct. 7, 1911 in Hart County, she was the daughter of the late William B. Gaines and Mary Holmes Gaines. She was retired from Hartwell Mills, was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, and attended the Assembly Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter - in - law, Troy and Lois Gaines of Hartwell; daughter and son - in - law, Linda and Melvin Propes of Hartwell; sister, Mary Reynolds of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren and one great - great - grandchild.
She was preceded in death by five brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services were held June 20, 2004 in the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The Revs. Bill McCall and Ken Buffington officiated. Entombment followed in the Memorial Garden of Prayer Mausoleum.
James Standridge
HARTWELL - James Standridge, of 109 Ridge Rd., died June 18, 2004 at the V.A. Hospital in Atlanta.
The Hart County native, and son of the late Hoyt Standridge and Mae Phillips Standridge, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the husband of Lula Haygood Standridge and was the owner/operator of Standridge Used Cars for 52 years. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Hicks Standridge of the home; daughter, Susan Standrige Freeman of Hartwell; and two grandchildren, Faith Freeman and Amy J. Freeman. He was preceded in death by his brother Alton Standridge.
The Rev. Wayne Durden and Mr. Gene Harper officiated at the funeral services, held June 21, 2004, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home in Hartwell. Burial followed in Nancy Hart Memorial Park with military honors.

Pauline Barnett
HARTWELL - Pauline Tucker Barnett, 80, of 45 Walnut St., formerly Hidden Hills Dr., died June 20, 2004 at Atria Asssited Living in Hartwell.
A native of Atlanta, she was born Dec. 20, 1923 to the late John H. Tucker and Florine Wyatt Tucker. She was a homemaker and member of the Hartwell Christian Church.
Survivors include her son, John A. Barnett, Nashville, Tenn.; daughter, Dianne Barnett Brookins, Bowersville; and six grandchildren.
The body was cremated and a memorial service was held June 23, 2004 in the chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home with Mrs. Rachel Berg officiating.

Ed Weaver
LAVONIA - Freeman Edward “Ed” Weaver, 84, resident of Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston, formerly of 185 Edgewood Dr., died June 20, 2004 at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.
The only child of the late Epp and Mattie Elizabeth Weaver was born Sept. 10, 1919 in Hart County. He was the husband of the late Nancy Fleming Weaver and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of WW II, having served in the Pacific Theatre and was drill sergeant in charge of the operation on the Island of Morici which brought the “Death March Boys” home to the States. He was retired from Lavonia Manufacturing Company after 20+ years as a time standard supervisor. He was the proud owner of a tremendous Indian arrowhead collection, revered by many to be one of the most extensive in existence, and was also adept at the ancient art of “water witching”, helping many to secure sights to dig wells in areas presumed to have no water.
He is survived by his son, Robert “Bob” Weaver and his wife Joan of South Jordan, Utah; and five grandchildren and 11 great - grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Ronald Edward Weaver.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, 2004, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home, 355 Bear Creek Rd., Lavonia. Steven D. Hamby will minister with Scripture, eulogy and remarks. The Rev. and Mrs. Richard Dickson will minister in music. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Gardens, North, with military rites.
The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends on Thursday, June 24 from 6 - 8 p.m.
