Sidney Frederick Noble
LAVONIA - Sidney Frederick Noble, 65, of died June 6, 2003 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

He was an Air Force veteran and retired as owner of J.P’s Family Restaurant in Lilburn after 25 years of operation.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Welch; sons, Duane Noble of Norcross, Todd Williamson of Laramie, Wyo., Troy Williamson of Mills, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Stephen and Taylor Noble of Monroe; an aunt, Priscilla Ballance, Wilson, , N.C. and an uncle, Roney Davis, Goldsboro, N.C.

Mr. Noble was cremated and a Celebration of Life memorial will be held Sunday, June 22, 2003 at 4 p.m. at Tugaloo State Park in Lavonia.

Zelma Mewborn
ELBERTON - Zelma Fleming Mewborn, 95, of Spring Valley Nursing Center, died Sept. 23, 2003 at Spring Valley in Elberton.

The Elbert County native was born Dec. 2, 1907 to the late H.A. Fleming and Janie Elizabeth Gaines Fleming. She was the wife of the the late Joe Curtis Mewborn and was a homemaker and member of the Bethesda United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis M. Adams of Elberton; daughter - in - law, Mary Helen Mewborn; sisters, Lois F. Barton and Margaret Seymour, both of Elberton; grandchildren Stephanie Belcher, Curtis F. Mewborn Jr., and Joe M. Adams; and six great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Curtis F. Mewborn.

The Revs. Jim Winn and Billy Pittman officiated at the funeral services, held Sept. 26, 2003 from the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Bethesda United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, 352 Bethesda Church Rd., Hartwell, GA 30643.

Dot Sewell
CARNESVILLE - Mary Dorothy “Dot” McCurdy Sewell, 88, of the Bold Spring community, died Sept. 23, 2003 at the ACC center in Commerce.

A native of Madison County, she was born April 24, 1915 to the late Charlie Hoyt and Mary Ruby Haley McCurdy; and was the wife of the late William Raiford Sewell. She was an elementary school teacher at the Sandy Cross, Bold Spring, and Carnesville Elementary Schools for 33 years and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Bold Spring United Methodist Church where she had served as pianist.

Survivors include her daughter Bobbie Edwards of the Bold Spring community of Carnesville; six grandchildren and 10 great - grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Billy Sewell and sister Annie Ruth Martin.

Services were held at the Bold Spring United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Deitle officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Billy Ray Swift Sr.
MARTIN - Billy Ray Swift Sr., 43, of 530 Crawford Rd., died Sept. 25, 2003 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

The Stephens County native was born Feb. 9, 1960 to the late Thomas Clifton and Betsy Inez Simmons Swift. He was the husband of Melinda S. Swift and owner/operator of Swift Remodeling Company. He was of the Baptist faith and was a Harley - Davidson enthusiast.

Survivors in addition to his wife, include daughters Melissa Smith and Amy Swift; and sons, Levi Swift and Billy Ray Swift Jr., all of Martin; sisters, Lois Bridges and Pamela Selph, both of Toccoa, Irene Simmons of Martin, Carolyn Kutulas of Atlanta, and Connie Brown of Clayton; brother, Jerry Lee Swift of Milan; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Margo Swift; and brothers, Thomas Clifton Swift Jr. and Larry Swift.

Funeral services were held Sept. 27, 2003 in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home in Lavonia. The Rev. Terrell Simmons officiated. Interment followed in the Swift family cemetery.

Otho Mabry Jr.
HARTWELL - Otho Mabry Jr., 74, of 172 Glendale Dr., Hartwell, died Sept. 25, 2003 at Hart County Hospital.

The son of the late Otho Mabry Sr. and Elise Adams Mabry was born Dec. 9, 1928 and was the husband of Gussie Dyer Mabry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and served as fireman first class aboard the USS McComb and the USS New. He operated Consolidated Credit, was a self employed truck driver, and owner/operator of Town and Country Cars. He was a member of Toccoa Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife Gussie Dyer Mabry; sons, Danny Mabry of Canon and Michael Mabry of Hartwell; daughter, Jan Young of Westminster, S.C.; brothers Curtis Mabry and Walter Mabry, both of Hollywood; sisters, Sara Pannell, Kathryn Durden and Joyce Bleckley, all of Toccoa, Pat Tabor of Hendersonville, N.C. and Ann Dover of Westminster; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sept. 28, 2003 from the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home. The Revs. Thomas Maxwell and Richard Bowers will officiate. Burial followed in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hart County Relay for Life, 1610 Lightwood Rd., Hartwell, GA 30643.

Carrie Rhodes
ROYSTON - Carrie Alice Rhodes, 77, of 407 Cook St., died Sept. 28, 2003 at Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.

A native of Des Moines, Iowa, she was born Nov. 15, 1925 to the late Elmer and Maude Lane Lovell. She was the wife of Paul Raymond Rhodes and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Costa Mesa, Calif., and a member of the Elks Club.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Raymond Rhodes of Royston; son, Jack Wock of Royston; daughters, Lindy Rhodes and Paulette DeForeest, both of Royston, and Shari Sharp of Fullerton, Calif.; brothers, Frank Lovell of Utah, and Melvin Lovell of Des Moines; eight grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren.

The body was cremated.

Memorials may be made to the St. Josephs Indian School, P.O. Box 100, Chamberlain, SD, 57325.

Thomas Dean
DANIELSVILLE - Thomas Nelson Dean, 76, of 6024 Hwy. 29 N, died Sept. 28, 2003 at the Brown Memorial Convalescent Center in Royston.

The Madison County native was born April 27, 1927 to the late Claude Lee and Nancy Lee Adams Dean. He was the husband of Janie Ruth Ginn Dean and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific during the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He was a retired installer from Athens Glass and Mirror and was a member of the Evangelical Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Ruth Ginn Dean of Danielsville; son and daughter - in - law, Tommy and Kathy Dean of Danielsville; daughter and son - in - law, Brenda and Anthony Ray of Eatonton; and four grandchildren, Vincent Ray, Stephen and Marion Ray, Jennifer Dean, and Nancy Ray.

Tim Peek and the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiated at the funeral services, held Sept. 30, 2003 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Jones Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Bernice Ramsey
HARTWELL - Bernice Smith Ramsey, 94, of Hartwell Health Care Center, formerly of N. Forest Ave., Hartwell, died Sept. 27, 2003 at the Hartwell Health Care Center in Hartwell.

A native of Oglethorpe County, she was born Dec. 1, 1908 to the late Luke L. Smith and Addie Murray Smith; and was the wife of the late Lovic T. Ramsey. She was retired from the Hartwell Garment Company where she was a seamstress and had formerly run the Salvation Army Clothing Store of Hartwell. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell where she taught Sunday school for 35 years.

Survivors include sons and daughters - in - law, Byron L. and Mary Ann Ramsey of Hull, and Bobby R. and Lenora Ramsey of Hartwell; sister, Juanelle Bowen of Hull; seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her brother Lewis J. Smith and sister Damie Sue Glenn.

Graveside services were held Oct. 1, 2003 at the Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The Rev. Gary Thompson officiated.

Arnold Hill
CANON - Arnold Richard Hill, 78, of 6229 Hwy 17, Canon, died Sept. 26, 2003 at his home.

The native of Franklin County was born March 7, 1925 to the late Louis and Bell Alewine Hill. He was the husband of Ida Mae Hunter Hill and was employed with J.H. Carter for 21 years. He was a self employed pulp wood cutter and farmer and was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Mae Hunter Hill of Canon; sons, Richard, Dean, Jerry and Terry Hill, all of Canon; daughters, Jane Bond and June Hill, both of Royston, the Rev. Barbara Vaughn, Carolyn Harris and Tammie Chappelear, all of Lavonia; and Nancy Busby of Canon; brothers Robert Hill, Canon; sisters, Macy Shiflet, Mary Shiflet, and Estelle Kirkland, all of Canon, and Florence Murray of Bogart; 26 grandchildren and 30 great - grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Hill and sister Virginia Hill.

Funeral services were held Sept. 28, 2003 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Johnny Stowe and Roby Wooby officiated. Burial followed in the Franklin Memorial Gardens South.

Parks Little
BOWERSVILLE - Bonnie Parks Little, 66, of 1024 Union Hill Church Rd., died Sept. 28, 2003 at his home.

The Hart County native was the son of the late Bonnie and Mary McGarity Little and the husband of Betty Mackey Little.He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a retired district manager for the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Athens Daily News and the Anderson Independent. He was a member of Old Canon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Mackey Little of Bowersville; daughter, Connie Berryman of Elberton; sister, Hazel Carlton of Canon; grandson Jason Lee and granddaughter Amber Berryman, both of Elberton.

The Rev. Eldon Massey officiated at the funeral service, held Oct. 1, 2003 at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Bowers Memorial Gardens.

Evelyn Robertson
BOWERSVILLE - Evelyn Shiflet Robertson, 86, of Hartwell Health Care Center, formerly of Jud Cole Rd., Bowersville, died Sept. 28, 2003.

A native of Hart County, she was born April 5, 1917 to the late Charlie C. Shiflet and Mary Ethel Cornell Shiflet; and was the wife of the late James H. Robertson. She was a retired seamstress from Bellcraft Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Flat Shoals Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member for over 40 years.

Survivors include sons and daughers - in - law, Charles H. and Patsy Robertson of Hartwell, Ervin L. and Debby Robertson of Bowersville; daughter - in - law, Bonnie Robertson of Paragould, Ark.; brother, Charles O. Shiflet of Hartwell; sister Hazel Foster of Hartwell; nine grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry D. Robertson; great grandchild, Alexis Robertson; brother, Ervin Shiflet; and sisters, Audrey Guest, Opal Cheek, Mildred Thornton and Jean Thompson.

Funeral services were held Oct. 1, at the Flat Shoals Baptist Church. The Revs. Mitchell Ash and Eddy Mattison officiated. Burial followed in the Flat Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mildred Sisk
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mildred Brown Sisk, 93, of 516 Connecticut Ave., died April 9, 2004 at the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in Spartanburg.

The daughter of the late George C. and Tennie Haley Brown was born in Franklin County on Sept. 27, 1910 and was the wife of the late Leon J. Sisk.

Survivors include her son, Jan Sisk, and friends and caregivers, Sovona Barbary (Miss Sue) and Maria Paz. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her friend of 16 years, Little Buddy “Scooter”.

A private graveside service was held April 11, 2004 in the Toccoa City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Thornwell Home for Children, P.O. Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.

Thelma Fortson
DANIELSVILLE - Thelma Evans Collins Fortson, 92, of 80 Dalton Dr., died April 13, 2004 at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Royston.

The Madison County native was born Sept. 15, 1911 to the late Ozzie and Jessie House Evans. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel M. Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, James C. Collins, Danielsville, Wayne Collins, Ila, and Roger Collins, Hull; sister, Lera Booth, Atlanta; seven grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, DeVery Evans; and sisters, Nobie Dalton, Etha Collins, Blanche Scarborough, and Millie Burroughs.

The Revs. Dennis Kesler, George Lovely and Kenneth Segars officiated at the funeral services, held April 16, 2004, in the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery.
