Clayton Dennis Holteen
Clayton Dennis Holteen, age 63, of Locust Grove, Georgia died September 3, 2006. Mr. Holteen was born
January 29, 1943 in Lebanon, Oregon, the son of the late Avis Almira Marin and Claude A. Holteen. He was a retired aircraft mechanic with United Parcel Service who enjoyed old cars and racing. He was also preceded in death by siblings, Clell Holteen and Phyllis Witt.
He is survived by his wife, Renee Holteen of Locust Grove; children, Laurie and Randall Hickman of Turner, Oregon, Natalie Panelli of Reno, Nevada, Angie Earwood of Roseburg, Oregon, Chad and Stacey Holteen of Lowell, Oregon, Jeannie and Jeff Holland of Marble Falls, Texas and Tracie and Peter Zenti of Tigard, Oregon; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and a celebration of life will be held later in Oregon. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Beth Tinsley Alexander
Beth Tinsley Alexander, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia died September 4, 2006. Mrs. Alexander was born
in Stockbridge, the daughter of Robert Mather and Otis Thurman Austin. She was a member of Flippen United Methodist Church and was a masterful artist with flowers. She was truly a Southern Belle. She was a member and Past Royal Matron of McDonough Ct., #22, Order of the Amaranth and a member of the Eastern Star, Hillpatrick Chapter.
She is survived by her husband, James O. Alexander of McDonough; sons, Alexander Tinsley of Nashville, Tennessee, Thomas A. Tinsley of New Port Ritchie, Florida; daughter, Madge E. Tinsley; brother, Thurman Austin of Hampton; sisters, Audrey Williamson of Forest Park, Eleanor J. Eberhardt of McDonough; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held September 7 at Flippen United Methodist Church, with Rev. Gary DeMore and Dr. Robert Brown officiating. Interment Flippen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Flippen United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3707 Jodeco Rd., McDonough, Georgia, 30253; or Georgia Diabetes Research Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 70638, Albany, Georgia, 31708-0638. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Ken Sloan
Ken Sloan, age 48, of Ellenwood, Georgia died September 6, 2006. Mr. Sloan was a member of the Fairview Athletic Association, and of The CHI PHI Fraternity.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Sloan; daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Nathan Young of Stockbridge; parents Waldo and Carolyn Sloan of Calhoun; brother, Tommy Sloan of Calhoun; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass was held September 8 at St. James Catholic Church, with Father Darragh Griffith as celebrant. Interment Fairview Memorial Gardens. Horis A. Ward Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Vinnie Lee Neal Mattke
Vinnie Lee Neal Mattke, age 87, of McDonough, Georgia died September 7, 2006. Ms. Mattke was born
April 1, 1919 in Whitfield County, the daughter of the late Eula Jane Henderson and John Cleveland Neal. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ashley Delmar Mattke, Sr.; brother, Ervin Neal; sisters, Vera Elizabeth Neal, and Marie Hayes.
She is survived by her stepson, Ashley D. Mattke, Jr. and family; numerous nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; nine great-great-nieces and nephews.
Services were held September 9 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Pastor Carla Knobler officiating. Interment Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Bobby Draper, Jr.
Bobby Draper, Jr. age 39, of McDonough, Georgia died September 7, 2006. Mr. Draper was born
in Urbana, Illionis. He was a loving and caring uncle who had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with his family. He was a movie enthusiast and an avid Nascar fan. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dianne Lillie Ray Draper; and brother, Joey Draper.
He is survived by his father, Bob Draper, Sr. of McDonough; brother, David (Crissy) Draper of McDonough; sister, Melissa Draper of Jonesboro; aunt, Kelly Moyle of Concord, North Carolina; uncle, Ronnie Ray of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held September 11 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Rick Statham officiating. Interment Jackson City Cemetery. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Curtis Arnett
Curtis Arnett, age 74, of Stockbridge, Georgia died September 10, 2006. Mr. Arnett was born
in Franklin, the son of the late Jesse and Vesta Wingo Arnett. He enjoyed nature and the beauty of God’s creations. He was commonly known as the ‘Candy Man’ who loved people of all ages and always shared encouragement with them. Those who knew him were blessed with his sense of humor. Even during his illness his faith in God was always obvious. He was a loving and nurturing husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by sisters, Geneva Oneal and Mary Ellen Fields; and brother, Dallas Arnett.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Arnett of Stockbridge; son, Richard Curtis Arnett of Marietta; daughter, Angela Rice of Stockbridge; grandsons, Tyler Rice and Alex Rice; siblings, J.C. Arnett of Woodburn, Oregon, Dorothy Newsome of LaGrange, Jess Arnett of Silverton, Oregon and Theo Arnett of Franklin.
Services were held September 13 in the chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Betty Grace Conner
Betty Grace Conner, age 40, of Locust Grove, Georgia died September 10, 2006. She was born
February 17, 1966 in Atlanta, the daughter of Burdett Joseph and Grace Brown Slauson. She was a member of the Baptist faith, attended Unadilla High School and was employed by U.S. Liberty restaurant where she loved to cook. She worked as a cook for 18 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Burdett Joseph Slauson.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Marie Bryant and Candy Ann Bryant, both of Hampton; mother, Grace Slauson of McDonough; sisters, Gayleen Shoemaker and Cathy Slauson, both of Locust Grove; brothers, Robert Slauson of Lutherville and Howard Slauson of Flovilla.
Services were held September 14 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Drucker officiating. Interment Flippen Cemetery. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sara Louise Hollbrook Smith
Sara Louise Hollbrook Smith, age 78, of Locust Grove, Georgia died September 12, 2006. Mrs. Smith was born
December 24, 1927 in Oconee County, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Kate Stone and Silus Wesley Holbrook. She enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, quilting and cross stitching. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Leon Smith, Sr.
She is survived by her children, Clyde L. Smith, Jr., Roger and Lorraine Smith, all of Locust grove; grandsons, Clyde L. Smith III and Roger Smith II; brother, Marvin Holbrook of Alapaha; sisters, Gladys Finley of Seneca, South Carolina, Jeannie and Reba Dooly, both of Toccoa; nieces and nephews.
Services were held September 15 at Locust Grove Cemetery, with Rev. Joey Seabolt officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Randolph Beasley
Randolph (Randy) Beasley, age 79, of McDonough, Georgia died September 13, 2006. Mr. Beasley was born
in Swainsboro, the son of the late Roy and Sally Tucker Beasley. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps, and was a member of the Flippen United Methodist Church. He had a love for flowers, fishing, football and baseball. Most important to him was his family. He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Carole Reagan Beasley of McDonough; daughters, Lisa (David) Stewart of Dacula, Lori (Steve) Burke of Cumming; sons, Glenn (Denise) Worley of Forest Park, Doug (Terri) Worley of Sharpsburg, Patrick (Tasha) Lane of Cartersville; grandchildren, Chris, Kaitlyn, Cory, Austin, Brandon, Christopher, Christi, Josh, Cody, Charley, D.J., Emily, Jack, Elise; great-grandchildren, Tiree and Aaralyn; brothers, Wallace (Dink) Beasley and Harold (Edna) Beasley, all of Claxton, Doug (Shelby) Beasley of Augusta, Al (Jackie) Beasley of Statesboro; and sister, Myrtle (Hugh) Coulter of Savannah.
Services were held September 16 at Flippen United Methodist Church, with Dr. Robert Brown, Hershel Childs and Rev. Patrick Lane officiating. Interment Forest Hills Memorial Gardens. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
