John F. Kane
John F. Kane, 83, of Comanche Circle, entered into rest on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Warrenton Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 10 at Magnolia cemetery in Augusta.
Mr. Kane was the widower of the late Mary Dorothy Archer Kane. He was born in Tarrytown, New York on October 15, 1921, and was raised and educated in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He was honorably discharged in 1946 from the New Jersey National Guard and served until 1962 in the United States Army, earning the rank of Master Sergeant. He served two tours of duty in the Korean Conflict. Mr. and Mrs. Kane made Augusta and Lincolnton their homes from the time of his retirement in 1962.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Veronica B. Ward of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Mr. Thomas H. Kane, Jr. of Clinton, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lavergne Archer of Largo, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

Lois Martin
Ms. Lois Martin, 90, entered into rest on Friday, September 23, 2005 at Wilkes Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28 at Price’s Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Jackson Parks and William H. Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Ms. Martin was a daughter of Doc and Fannie Mae Martin and was a lifelong resident of Lincoln County. She was a retired cook and housekeeper and a dedicated member of Price’s Grove Baptist Church since 1926. She was mother of the church for the past five years. For over 55 years she served in various capacities such as church secretary, deaconess, the mother board, and Sunday school teacher, a job at which she excelled.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Martin and Martha Clarke of Athens, Ga.; one sister, Myrtis Martin of Athens; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Estes, Jr.
Pallbearers were church deacons and trustees. Deaconesses served as flower bearers.

Norris Ware
Mr. Norris Ware, 59, of Water Oak Drive, entered into rest on Friday, October 7, 2005 at the residence.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 9 at Lincolnton Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Palmer officiating. Interment followed at Lincolnton City Cemetery.
Mr. Ware was the son of the late Albert Hawes and Fannie Ruth Bohler Ware. He was a former employee with Part’s Warehouse of Augusta, owner of Ware’s Auto Parts for 25 years, a member of the American Legion Post 194, the Iron Horse Motorcycle Club and a veteran of the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ware; two daughters, Christie W. Bryan and Taylor Curtis Ware, both of Lincolnton; one son, Todd Ware of Greenville, S.C.; two step-children, Don Morrow of Lincolnton and Franklin Curtis of Missouri; one sister, Rebecca W. Tarver of Lincolnton; and one brother, Kelly Ware of Thomson, Ga.
Pallbearers were Danny Dawkins, Jimmy Harrison, Bobby Moore, Matt Nunn, Perry Pittman, Herbert Rhodes, Jimmy Shelton, Mark Taylor and Hillyer Wright, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were the Iron Horse Motorcycle Club.

Nancy Snyder
Mrs. Nancy Findling Snyder, 61, wife of the late John C. Snyder, Jr., of Lake Drive, entered into rest Friday, December 15, 2006 at University Hospital in Augusta, Ga.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 18 at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Joyner officiating.
Mrs. Snyder, a native of Pennsylvania, had lived in North Augusta for many years before moving to Lincoln County fifteen years ago. While in North Augusta, she was employed by Nations Bank and had been a secretary for Lee Builders in Lincolnton for several years. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly Snyder Hardee of Clarks Hill, S.C.; her mother, Louise Findling of Ocala, Fla.; a brother, Gary Findling of Ocala, Fla.; and one grandson, Craig Weise.

Glenn G. Hopkins
Mrs. Glenn G. Hopkins entered into rest on Monday, November 6, 2006 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 9 at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church. Interment followed at Westminister Gardens.
Mrs. Hopkins was a native of Washington, Ga. She attended cosmetology college in Charleston, S.C. Upon graduation, she practiced in Charleston and Beaufort, S.C. before moving to Greensboro, N.C., where she continued to practice cosmetology for several years. She managed the ladies department at Bernard Shephard in Greensboro for ten years before retiring. She was a member of Guilford Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Women of the Church, a circle leader and a reservation chairman for the Golden Age Program, a member of the North Carolina Federation of Women's Club and Charity League of Greensboro, and she did volunteer work at Wesley Long Hospital for several years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Hopkins, Jr.
Survivors include one son, John E. Hopkins, III and wife, Dru of Greensboro, S.C.; two sisters, Geneva Mayfield of Atlanta, Ga. and Marie Smalley of Lincolnton; and two grandchildren, Jacy and Shay Hopkins of Greensboro.

Billy O'Neal Biggerstaff
Mr. Billy O'Neal Biggerstaff, 66, of 574 North Washington St., entered into rest on Friday, November 3, 2006 at Doctor's Hospital, Augusta.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 5 at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Rev. T.G. Hall officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Biggerstaff was the son of the late Kasville Spate Biggerstaff and the late Lillian Banks Biggerstaff. He was a self-employed businessman and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Angela B. Snyder and husband Todd of Elberton, Ga., Renay B Miller and husband, Ricky of Edgefield, S.C.,
Virginia Bohler Ferguson
Mrs. Virginia Bohler Ferguson, 75, passed away Monday, October 27, 2006 at University Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2 at Parks Grove FBH Church with Pastor Tonita Cody officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ferguson was a native of Lincoln County and was the daughter of the late West and Clotale Bohler. She was a member of Parks Grove FBH Church.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Willie A. Ferguson of the home; five daughters, Mary E. Jones, Dianne Brantley and husband, James; Nellie L. Milton and husband, Willie R., Juanita Bynes and husband, Ronnie, and Selisa Ferguson, all of Lincolnton; six sons, Tim Jones, Willie J. Jones, James Ferguson, Racy Ferguson, William H. Ferguson, all of Lincolnton and Henry W. Jones of Newark, NJ; four grandchildren reared in the home, Ronnell Ferguson, Pernisa Ferguson, Telisa Ferguson and Jaquavious Burns; one brother, Ralph Bohler of Newark, NJ; four sister-in-laws; one-brother-inlaw; an uncle, an aunt, 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and two very close family friends, Margaret Perrin and Grady Tutt.

John David Jones, 48, of 2524 White Rock Road died Thursday, November 2, 2006 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Lincoln County.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 12 at Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, Lincolnton.

Mrs. Margaret Lenora Prather, 90 of Metasville Rd. entered into rest Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Ga.
Services were held at 3:00 p.m, November 6, at Hephzibah Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Danner officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Prather was the daughter of the late Jacob B. Martin and the late Corrie Lee Dunbar Martin. She was a homemaker and a member of Hephzibah Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Claude S. Prather ; son, Bill Wellmaker, Sr. and wife, Beth of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandsons, Bill Wellmaker, Jr., Richard Wellmaker, Stephen Wellmaker and wife, Angie; two great grandchildren, William Caleb Wellmaker and Victoria Mechelle Wellmaker.

Ruby Clary Sutherland, 80, wife of Lawrence A. Sutherland, died Sunday, November 5, 2006 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 8 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Anderson, SC, with Rev. Frank Lybrand officiating. Burial followed in New Silverbrook Cemetery, Anderson.
Born in Lincolnton, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Willie Lee Clary. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking. For more than 50 years she was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Anderson.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence A. Sutherland of the home; three daughters, Nancy Johnstone and husband, Bill, and grandchildren, David and Anna Johnstone, Austin, Texas, Carol Stoute and husband, Richard of Anderson, SC and grandson, Chris Stout and wife, Rainey, of Beaufort, SC, Le Ann Hopkins and husband, Agnew of Charlotte, NC; one brother, William Clary and wife, Fannie of Lincolnton; two sisters, Rosemary Clubb and husband, Hal, of Washington, Ga and Hilda Quarles and husband, Don of Lees Summit, Mo.

Mr. Donald Edward "Don" Walker 80, of Metasville Road entered into rest on Friday, October 13, 2006 at the residence.

Mr. Walker was self-employed as a refrigeration technician and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronnie Walker and a brother, Carroll Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, June H. Walker; one son, Kim Walker of Lincolnton; one daughter, Karon Walker of Gainesville, Fl.; one brother, George Walker of Tallahassee, Fl; five sisters, Evelyn W. Logan of Graniteville, S.C., Ruth W. Poland of Lincolnton Ga., Priscilla W. Styles of Conyers, Ga., Shirley W. Ashmore of Belton, S.C. and Imelda Walker of Lewiston, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Johnny Dupree Poteat Jr., 67, of 1747 Bethany Church Rd., entered into rest on Sunday September 3, 2006 at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington, Ga.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, September 5, at Double Branches Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. David Inglett officiating.
Mr. Poteat was a native of Spartanburg County, S.C. and the son of the late Johnny Dupree Poteat Sr. and Lucille McKelvy Poteat. He was a graduate of Wofford College, was former vice president and technical director of Spartan Mills. Mr. Poteat was a member of the American Chemical Society and Double Branches Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne Morgan Poteat, ; two daughters, Denise Annette Poteat of Savannah, Ga. and Deborah Ann P. Hagin and husband, Ken of Statesboro, Ga.; one son, Johnny Dupree Poteat III and wife, Lori of Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Barbara Joann Edwards of Inman, S.C.; five grandchildren, Blake Hagin, Ashton Hagin, Kelly Poteat, David Poteat and Preston Poteat.
