Samuel "Tee" Hadden
Mr. Samuel "Tee" Hadden, 79, of Avera died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at University Hospital.

Mr. Hadden was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was an active member of the choir and a deacon. He was retired from E.I. DuPont after 37 years as an operator. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Bertha Clyde Hadden. He is preceded in death by two brothers, William "Bill" Hadden and Lloyd Hadden; and two sisters, Goldie Standridge and Gladys Cain.

The funeral was March 25 at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Donald Lumpkin and Lester Clark officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce W. Hadden; one son, Tommy (Candice) Hadden, Wrens; three daughters, Carolyn (Tommy) Farmer, Augusta, Cheryl (Clint) Hardy, Evans, and Tracie (Ron) Bryant, Aiken, S.C.; two brothers, Morris "Gus" Hadden, New Ellenton, S.C., and Thomas (Bud) Hadden, Avera; one sister, Elsie Milburn, Gibson; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Hadden, Dwain Hadden, Bob Hadden, Chester Radford, Lucius Thigpen, Robert Kodama, Jason Sheppard, Brady Hadden, John Padgett, Melvin Hadden and Dan Faust.

Honorary pallbearers were the deacons of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building fund, c/o Bobbie Kitchens, 1092 Oak St., Avera, GA 30803.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Horace Lariscy Jr.
Mr. Horace Lariscy Jr., 78, of Sylvania died Monday, March 20, 2006.

Mr. Lariscy, a native of Screven County, was a member of McDonald Baptist Church. He was in the tire business for many years and was the owner/operator of Sunny South Cleaning Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn R. Lariscy, and grandson, Cale Bragg.

The funeral was March 23 at 4 p.m. at the McDonald Baptist Church with the Rev. Horace W. Lariscy III and the Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda L. and Lavaughn Bragg, Statesboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Horace W., III and Linda C. Lariscy, Wrens; two sisters, Gloria L. Hughes, Savannah, and Evelyn L. and Ned Davis, Rincon; three grandchildren, Kaycee B. Orchik, Athens, McKenzie Bragg, Statesboro, and Hope Lariscy, Wrens; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

James Murphy Lemmon
Mr. James Murphy Lemmon, 69, of Union, S.C., died Sunday, March 12, 2006.

Mr. Lemmon was born in Conway, S.C. to the late Samuel Lindsey Lemmon and Myrtle Murphy Lemmon. His maternal grandparents were John Ridgeway Murphy and Daisy Pugesley Murphy of Louisville. He attended the University of South Carolina on an athletic scholarship in baseball and graduated with a degree in business. He and his wife were former owners of Derrick Motor Co. of Union. He served on the Board of the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association. He was an active member of the Carolina Alumni Association and was a member of the Gamecock Club. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Union where he served as deacon and elder. He is predeceased by his brother, Samuel Lindsey Lemmon Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Ann Derrick Lemmon; three sons, J. Murphy (Molly) Lemmon Jr., Hilton Head, S.C., R. Derrick (Michele) Lemmon, Daniel Island, S.C., and Kevin (Tiffany) Lemmon, Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Jordan Andrew Lemmon, Collin Ray Lemmon, Madeline Michele Lemmon, Caroline Rebecca Lemmon and Matthew Welton Lemmon.

Mildred Wallace Rowland
Mrs. Mildred Wallace Rowland, 82, of Louisville died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Rowland was a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville and was a retired secretary and homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Benjamin "JB" Rowland Sr., and parents, William Andrew Wallace Sr. and Edna Mays Wallace.

The funeral was March 24 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Montgomery officiating.

Survivors include a son and his wife, James B. and Laura Rowland Jr., Madison; a sister, Mrs. J.M. Aaron, Dalton; two brothers, W.A. Wallace Jr., Hampton, and W.W. Wallace, Augusta; two cousins, Hope Arnold, Louisville, and Harold Mays, Augusta; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Bill Hattaway, Ken Wheatley, Scott Wallace, Tommy Aaron, Jimmy Aaron, Howard Miller, Randall Harold, Pete Love and Darren Rowland.

Honorary pallbearers were Billy Lamb, Grady Means, Ralph Hartley, Joel Lamb, George Miller, Harry Rowland, Bill Strange and Bob Henderson.

Charlie "Frank" Thigpen
Mr. Charlie "Frank" Thigpen, 81, of Bartow died Monday, March 20, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Thigpen was a member of Old Bethel Church where he was a Sunday School Superintendent, an Honorary Deacon Emeritus and a member of Men's Fellowship and the choir. He was retired from Jefferson EMC after 37 years as a line man and meter reader. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He is the son of the late Lee and Janie Thigpen.

The funeral was March 24 at 2 p.m. at Old Bethel Baptist Church in Bartow with the Revs. Bill Thigpen and Warren Killingsworth officiating. Burial was in Walden U.M.C. cemetery in Avera.

Survivors include his wife, Lois H. Thigpen; one son, Bill (Johnnie) Thigpen, Bartow; two daughters, Delores (Bill) McGlohorn, Bartow, and Peggy Kirkland (Lloyd) Schroder, Conyers; three brothers, Harold Thigpen, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Ray (Ruby) Thigpen, Grovetown, and Otis (Eunice) Screws, Tallahassee, Fla.; one sister, Beulah Hood, North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Clay Holbrook, Gene Holbrook, Christopher Cash, Colby Harrell, Dale Williams, Larry Bailey, Troy Williford, Craig Lamb, David Bullard and Aaron Newsome.

Honorary pallbearers were Wallace Hadden, Jerry Josey, Charlie Walden and the Deacons of Old Bethel Baptist Church.

Ruth Kent Thomas
Mrs. Ruth Kent Thomas, 78, of Gibson died Tuesday, March 21, 2006, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Thomas, a native of West Virginia, was the daughter of the late Ernest Kent and Gertrude Jenkins Kent. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. "Shorty" Thomas; a son, Mark Wayne Thomas; and a sister, Mattie Blankinship.

Private graveside services were March 23 at Sallie Hill cemetery with Bro. Harold Lamb, Bro. Travis Hannah and the Rev. Jim Martin officiating.

Survivors include a son, Roy "Tommy" Thomas, Milledgeville; six daughters, Barbara Chalker, Milledgeville, Linda (Travis) Hannah, Greenhill, Ala., Becky Hinton, Thomson, Sandra Kitchens, Stapleton, Cathy (Harold) Lamb, Gibson, and Alice (Tim) Hardin, Washington; five brothers, William Kent, Ernest Kent Jr., Charles Kent, Glenn Kent and Jerry Kent, all of Griffin; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandsons.

Memorials may be made tot eh Alzheimers Association, 1899 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.

Mildred Lee Turner
Mrs. Mildred Lee Turner of Wadley died Friday, March 17, 2006.

The funeral was March 25 at 2:30 p.m. at San Clair Baptist Church with the Rev. A.C. Epps officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Marion Johnson, Wadley, and Katherine Swint, Louisville; two sisters, Alma Zoda Davis and Millard Lee Turner, Wadley; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rosette Kelsey Warthen
Mrs. Rosette Kelsey Warthen, 81, formerly of Wadley, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at an Augusta Hospital.

Mrs. Warthen, a native of Johnson County, lived in Jefferson County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Ollie and Frances Latimore Kelsey. She was a member of the Spears Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker.

The funeral was March 29 at 1 p.m. at the Spears Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. C.W. Stone, Willie B. Tomlin and Kervin Washington officiating . Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Ernestine Warthen, Swainsboro, Betty Percell, Bronx, N.Y., David Warthen, Augusta, Leroy Warthen, Rosena Warthen and Frances (Walter) Mitchell, Wadley, and Frank (Thykle) Warthen Jr., Harrisburg, Pa.; one aunt; three sisters-in-law; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her nephews.

Rev. Joel Paul Barrett Sr.
Rev. Joel Paul Barrett Sr., 89, of Madison, Fla., died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2006. Rev. Barrett, a native of Funston, was the son of the late Mirabeau Joe Barrett and Ruthie Pearl Cowart Barrett. He received his bachelor's degree from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ken. He had lived in Madison for the past 20 years and was a member of the Rocky Springs United Methodist Church. He was an active member and officer in Kiwanis International and the Lions Club. He served many churches during his ministry including, Stapleton, Zoar and Waldens.

The funeral will be Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Madison. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Madison.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Sheffield, Barrett; three sons, Joel Paul Barrett Jr., Ft. Stockton, Tex., Mira Lewis Barrett, Portal, and John Mark Barrett, Midland, Tex.; two daughters, Virginia Barrett Jarvis, Madison, Fla., and Susan Barrett Dunn, Columbus; one sister, Sarah Harrell, Decatur; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Jannie Mae Braddy
Mrs. Jannie Mae Braddy Mrs. Jannie Mae Braddy, 84, of Louisville died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Braddy, a native of Washington County, lived in Jefferson County most of her life. She was a member of New Hope AME Church where she served on the Missionary Board. She attended Jefferson County public schools and was a member of the Jefferson County Senior Citizens. The funeral will be Sept. 17 at 3 p.m. at New Hope AME Church and cemetery in Grange.

Survivors include her children, Eddie D. Braddy, Dorothy Harmon, Willie Bell Habersham, Thomas J. Braddy, Billy Braddy and Roley Braddy, Louisville, Bessie Dean Jones, Patty Virginia Beal, Lonzo Braddy and Evangela Williams, Augusta; siblings, Rawling Roberson, Grace Hood, Amanda Roberson and Betty J. Roberson, Sandersville, Ella Mae Hicks and Joe Roberson, Briston, Pa., and Ester Brookins Levittown, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Oena Grant, Dora Dogan and Mozell Dogan, all of Louisville; and several other relatives.

Mr. Danny Ray Crego, 62, of Wadley died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2006, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Crego was born in Dodge City, Kan., but had lived in Wadley for the past 30 years. He was a Jefferson County school bus driver and a member of the Wadley United Methodist Church.

The funeral was Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Wadley United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Sauls officiating. Burial was in the Wadley Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Crego; daughter, Marcy and Charlie Scarbrough, Dublin; son, Kippy and Britney Crego, Wadley; mother, Hilma Rogers, Gainesville; brother, Lee Rogers, Gainesville; three sisters, Mary Jane Carter, Gail Robinson and Vickie Ward, all of Gainesville; and three grandchildren.
