Lila H. Cadden
Mrs. Lila H. Cadden of Augusta died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Cadden, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Clayburn and Amison Huff Hood. She had made Augusta her home since 1932. She was retired form the Graniteville Company, Sibley Mill with 41 years of service and was a member of the Hope Chapel.

The funeral was April 25 at noon at Elliott Sons Funeral Home Telfair Street Chapel with the Rev. Guy Campbell officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Ann Kitchens, Jupiter, Fla.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Elliott Sons Funeral Home Telfair Street Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Essie Mae Thompson Hilton
Mrs. Essie Mae Thompson Hilton of Louisville died Monday, April 17, 2006, at University Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Hilton was a member of Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church where she served all of her life as a missionary. She was also a member of the Fair and Honest Society and Spring Bethel Benevolent Society.

The funeral was April 22 at 1 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and cemetery with the Rev. Abraham Gibbons officiating.

Survivors include a daughter, Viola and Willie Lee Batts Sr., Louisville; her grandchildren, Sylvia Dia, Jonesboro, and Willie Lee Batts Jr., Albany; her sister-in-law, Margaret Thompson, Burlington, N.J.; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clarence Lamb
Mr. Clarence Lamb, 82, of Wrens died Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

Mr. Lamb, a native of Jefferson County, was the son of the late Robert and Gertrude Mathis Lamb. He was a farmer and a member of Jordan Chapel Church of God where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 20 years. He is preceded in death by a son, Larry Lamb.

The funeral was April 21 at 3 p.m. at Jordan Chapel Church with the Revs. David Jones and Guy Campbell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Evydell Williford Lamb; sons, Harold (Cathy) Lamb, Gibson, and Earl (Lucille) Lamb, Louisville; a daughter, Christy (Joe) Williams, Gibson; a sister, Maudie Black, Gibson; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy McNair, Hershal Waits, Glenn Price, Bobby Williams, Billy Williford, Bob Swan, Andy Purvis and Lynn Tapley.

Honorary pallbearers were Men of Jordan Chapel Church of God and the Department of Public Safety.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Katie McKinnie Williams
Mrs. Katie McKinnie Williams of Bartow died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at an Augusta hospital.

Mrs. Williams, a native of Jefferson County, was a member of Pierce Grove Baptist Church. She was a 1969 graduate of Jefferson County High School and a 1976 graduate of Swainsboro Tech with a degree in nursing. She was employed for 15 years at the Jefferson County Health Department as well as several nursing homes.

The funeral was April 25 at 2 p.m. at Pierce Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Sampson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, James Williams Sr.; children, Rodney (Shelia) McKinnie, Louisville, Kimberly L. Williams, Stone Mountain, James A. Williams Jr., Wrens, and Demetria (Derrick) Members, Rochester, N.Y.; her mother, Ezra McKinnie Flournoy, Wadley; siblings, Mattie Flournoy, Dorothy Gibbons and Myra Flournoy, Wadley, Albert Flournoy, Louisville, and Vanessa Flournoy, Augusta; six grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Curtis William Pennington
Mr. Curtis William Pennington, 91, of Starr S.C., died Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Willow Creek Nursing Home in Iva, S.C.

Mr. Pennington grew up on a farm in Wrens. He was the son of the late Reesey W. and Annie Mae Evans Pennington. He was an athlete at Wrens High School and received a football scholarship to Clemson College, Clemson, S.C., in 1935 and played under Coach Jess Neeley. He graduated from Clemson in 1939 with a degree in agriculture education and became an ag teacher at Starr High School. Four years later he taught at Boys High School in Anderson for 17 years where he ran the county cannery each summer. He later became principal of Starr Elementary School for four years. He then served as superintendent of Anderson School District 3 until his retirement in 1982. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Dean Jones Pennington, and two brothers, Ralph Pennington and Paul Pennington.

The funeral was April 13 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Roper officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Anderson.

Survivors include his children, Curtis W. Pennington Jr., Deanna Pennington and Elizabeth Pennington Newall; a brother, George Pennington, Matthews; and three grandchildren.

McDougald Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald Harold Simmons
Mr. Ronald Harold Simmons, 58, of Augusta died Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

Mr. Simmons, a lifelong resident of Augusta, was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and a retired school teacher.

Graveside services were April 20 at 3 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Tony Christie officiating.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Knopf Simmons, Augusta; two brothers, Donald Simmons, Wrens, and Marion Simmons, Martinez; his close friend, Louise Simmons; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the American Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Member Support (A.S.P.C.A), 424 East 92 St., New York, NY 10128.

Platt's Funeral Home, Augusta, was in charge of the arrangements.

Oliver C. Wilson
Mr. Oliver C. Wilson, 81, of Sandersville died Thursday, April 20, 2006.

The funeral was April 23 at 3 p.m. at the Sandersville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Burial was in Brownwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Roughton Wilson; children, Stanford G. Wilson, Atlanta, Robert O. Wilson, John K. Wilson and Leigh Anne W. Pullen, all of Sandersville; sisters, Evelyn W. Davidson, Leesburg, Fla., Dorothy W. Graham and, Jackie W. Andrews, Brunswick, Ollie W. Kirkland, Douglas, and Eva W. Prescott, Wrens; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Gary M. Cox
Mr. Gary M. Cox, 48, of Thomson died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.

Mr. Cox was a native of Chatham County but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was the owner of Anthony Auto Sales in Thomson and attended Pine Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 19 at 1:30 p.m. in the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Patrick DeVane and Butch Baston officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy McDuffie Cox, Thomson; daughter, Elizabeth Cox, North Augusta; step-son, Jonathon Pardue, Thomson; parents, William and Thelma Cox, Thomson; three brothers, John Cox, Wadley, Larry Cox, Waynesboro, and William Cox, Augusta.

Pallbearers were Chris Adams, Matthew Caldwell, Mike Conner, Ray Hitt, Bill Hall and Ricky McDuffie.

Mrs. Wilma Hill Huff
Mrs. Wilma Hill Huff of Sandersville died Friday, Aug. 25, 2006.

The funeral was Aug. 29 at 2:30 p.m. at Hudson Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Charles Wiggins officiating. Burial was in the Old Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one sister, Eula May Moye, Wadley; one brother, Ed Hill Jr., Sandersville; a devoted niece, reared as her daughter, Maybelline Stevenson, Sandersville; and several other relatives. Hudson Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Ray Olin Smith
Mr. Roy Olin Smith, 71, of Thomson died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006.

Mr. Smith, a native of Glascock County, lived most of his life in McDuffie County. He was retired from Kinglsey Mill with over 30 years of service. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral was Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Patrick DeVane officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Cason Smith, Thomson; daughters, Debbie S. Hughes and Connie S. Jones, Thomson; a son, David Olin Smith, Thomson; a sister, Idell Hawkins Land, Thomson; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were James Callaway, Winnard Chalker, Alton Gheesling, Kenneth Kitchens, George Darden and Roy Russell.

Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. John F. Spence
Mr. John F. Spence, 86, of Brooklet died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Spence, a native of Fulton County, graduated from the University of Georgia. He taught agriculture at Southeast Bulloch High School and retired after 40 years of service in education. He was an assistant principal and coached girl’s basketball at one time. He received the NVATA Teacher of Teachers Silver Award and the Southeast Bulloch FFA Advisor Emeritus Award as well as the NVATA Outstanding Service Award. He served as president and vice-president of the GVATA. He was inducted into the Georgia Agricultural Education Hall of Fame in 2001. He was a member of the Brooklet Kiwanis Club, the Gideon’s and a longtime member of the Brooklet United Methodist Church, the church choir and the Jack Lee Sunday School class.

The funeral was Aug. 21 at 11 a.m. at Brooklet United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wes Moye officiating.

Burial was in the Brooklet City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Avera Spence; a daughter, Sue Spence Seabolt, Anderson, SC; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Taimeka Walker Williams
Mrs. Taimeka Walker Williams, 32, of Johnston, SC, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2006. Mrs. Williams, a native of Brooklyn, NY, was the daughter of Larry and Connie Williams Walker. She was a graduate of Vorhees College with a bachelor of science degree in biology and a KAPPA Sweetheart. She was a member of Brookland Baptist Church and was employed as a teacher with the Brookland Baptist Church Development Center, West Columbia, SC. The funeral was Aug. 18 at noon at Brookland Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles B. Jackson Sr. officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Johnston, SC.

Survivors include her husband, Tommie Lee Williams; her father of Brooklyn, NY; her mother of Bartow; brother, Jermaine Walker, Augusta; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Lucille Lewis, Columbia, SC; paternal grandparents, Lovett and Lula Mae Walker, Brooklyn, NY. Butler and Sons Funeral Home, Saluda, SC, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Betty Boss, 60, of Harlem died Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Boss was a homemaker.

The funeral was July 22 at 10 a.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Kitchens officiating. Burial was in the Mount Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery. She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Maggie McGahee; three brothers, Dickie McGahee, Bud McGahee and Cecil McGahee; and two sisters, Ruby Perdue and Mattie Lee Rebels .

Survivors include a son, Marty Chalker of Macon; a brother-in-law, William S. Perdue; and a sister-in-law, Eloise McGahee.

James Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Henrietta M. Boyce
Mrs. Henrietta M. Boyce, 86, of Blythe died Sunday, July 16, 2006.

Mrs. Boyce, a native of Jefferson County, was the daughter of the late Robert Samuel McCleskey and Lucile Parrish McCleskey. She moved to Burke County in 1946 and was a homemaker and retired partner in Boyceland Dairy Farm. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro. She is preceded in death by her husband Hugh Morgan Boyce; a sister, Annette M. Johnson; and a grandson, William Scott Boyce.

The funeral was July 18 at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waynesboro with the Rev. James P. Knight officiating. Burial was in Burke Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include three children, Jennie B. (Patrick) Fowler, Blythe, Bill (Carolyn) Boyce, Keysville, and Harold (Beverly) Boyce, Buckhead; a brother, Robert S. McCleskey Jr., Winston Salem, N.C.; a sister, Lucille M. Parrish, Wrens; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Hugh R. Boyce, Morgan E. Mizelle, Chad E. Boyce, H. Wayne Studdard, Mike Herrington and Jeff H. Parrish.
