Robert H. Brooks, age 77, of Salem, Oregon, formerly of McDonough, Georgia died October 19, 2006. Mr. Brooks was born
October 31, 1928, the son of the late Charlie and Lizzie Brooks. He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by seven siblings.
He is survived by his children, Debbie, Robert, Scott and Stacy; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Frances Palmer and Wincie Moore; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held October 21 at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Sue Allen Googe
Sue Allen Googe, age 83, of Stockbridge, Georgia formerly of Atlanta, died October 20, 2006. Mrs. Googe was born
May 1, 1923 in Copper Hill, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Ethel Mull and Ranza Allen. She marched in the Atlanta parade for the premiere of Gone With the Wind; graduated from Girl’s High School; was a member of the Rainbow Girls and a lifetime member of East Lake Country Club and was an avid golfer. She was a retired medical technician and a member of Gordon Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.H. "Barney" Googe.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Evelyn Price Allen of Lake City; nieces, Sue Carroll Tolbert of Troutville, Virginia, Cheryl Carroll Knick of Lake Anna, Virginia, Julie Carroll Lee of Manassas, Virginia, Sylvia Allen Ludlow of Easley, South Carolina, Gail Allen Lassiter of Jackson; nephew, James E. Allen, Jr. of Hampton; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held October 23 at Arlington Memorial Park Mausoleum, with Rev. Buddy Perstrope officiating. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Mrs. Googe. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Chloe Culpepper Cardwell
Chloe Culpepper Cardwell, age 87, of McDonough, Georgia died October 22, 2006. Mrs. Cardwell was born
in Veal, the daughter of the late Luther Leonard and Stella Pace Culpepper.
She is survived by her husband, John Cardwell of Jonesboro; son, Johnny (Dawn) Cardwell of McDonough; daughter, Donna Fisher; granddaughter, Kristin (Rankin) Muse; and great-grandson, Bradley Muse, all of Raleigh, North Carolina; and sister, Miriam Shuford of Columbia, South Carolina.

W. Wade Rutland
W. Wade Rutland, age 80, of Morrow, Georgia died October 24, 2006. Mr. Rutland was born
December 9, 1925 in LaGrange, the son of the late Frances Louise Granade and Dr. Silas Clifford Rutland. He served his country in the U.S. Navy with 23 years of service.
He is survived by his sons, Matthew W. Rutland of Woodstock, Jamie W. Rutland of McDonough; stepchildren, Tammy Bates, Samantha Gasses and Tommy Henderson, all of McDonough; and 11 grandchildren.

Helen Lorene Morris Smith
Helen Lorene Morris Smith, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia died October 25, 2006. Mrs. Smith was born
May 1, 1922 in Henry County, the daughter of the late Clyde Phillips and Lawrence Morris. She graduated from Hampton High School. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church and was a beautician for 22 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Bernard Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Robertson of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Stacy Patrick of Tampa, Florida, Mark Patrick of Cummings, and Todd Patrick of Tampa, Florida; sister, June Torbett of Kennesaw; and brother, Richard Morris of Milledgeville.

Bruce A. Byrne, Sr. and Linda Byrne
Bruce A. Byrne, Sr., age 65 and Linda Byrne, age 60 of McDonough, Georgia died in Stockbridge. Mr. Byrne was born
in Madison, Wisconsin, the son of the late Robert John and Evelyn Meta Salter Byrne. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from J.C. Penney Catalog Distribution Center, where he was part of the management team, and was most recently employed with the Polo Outlet in Locust Grove. Mrs. Byrne was born
in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of the late Timothy Gibson and Katie Pearl Jackson Whatley, Jr. She worked with Eastern Airlines for 27 years and then with Turner Broadcasting for 5 years. Most recently she was employed by Cities Mortgage Corporation (Ron Byrne’s business) as the most awesome bookkeeper in the world. Bruce and Linda were members of the McDonough Presbyterian Church. They were a loving couple to each other, their children and grandchildren.
They are survived by their children, Karin Byrne of Denver, Colorado, Ron (Nicole) Byrne of Cumming, Bruce (Valerie) Byrne, Jr. of Dacula; four grandchildren; Bruce’s siblings, Judy Tait of Eagan, Minnesota, Scott Byrne of Bothell, Washington , Kent Byrne of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and Linda’s sister, Barbara Hines of Montgomery, Alabama.

Durwood C. Smith
Durwood C. Smith, age 63, of McDonough, Georgia died October 6, 2006. Mr. Smith was born
November 26, 1942 in Griffin, the son of the late Adolph Steiner and Gwendolyn Connell Smith. He graduated from Hapeville High School in 1960. He was a member of Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He served as an Airman 2nd Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964. At the time of his death, he was serving as 1st Lt. in the Civil Air Patrol, volunteering his time and airplane with Angel Flight, aiding access to medical treatment and assisting with disaster relief. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Judy Stipe Smith; and his sister, Jacqueline Smith Camp.
He is survived by his children, Cindy (Brett) McIver and Debbie Doss Jones, both of Griffin, Steve (Michelle) Smith of Locust Grove; grandchildren, Christian Smith of Kennesaw, Reece and Keelen McIver, and Karsten Doss and Lauren Jones, all of Griffin, Max Simmons of Jackson, Elizabeth Simmons of Locust Grove, Ana and Meg Jones of Hampton; siblings, Barbara Smith of Atlanta, and James Smith and Ruth McKinley, both of Jonesboro.

Patricia Crocker Smith
Patricia Crocker Smith, age 61, of McDonough, Georgia died October 6, 2006. Mrs. Smith and her husband Durwood died in an airplane accident in Henry County. Mrs. Smith attended William A. Bass High School in Atlanta. She was a member of Eagle's Landing Baptist Church, and was employed with Eagle's Landing Country Club as an accountant. She and her husband were happily married
for 2 1/2 years and went to be with the Lord together. She will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her father, Ottis Holly Crocker; and daughter, Karen Wallace.
She is survived by her mother, Elsie Crocker of McDonough; siblings, Bobby Crocker of Doraville, Sterling Crocker of Acworth, and Gerald Crocker of Decatur.

Sylvia Elaine Rhymer
Sylvia Elaine Rhymer (nee Green), age 65, of McDonough, Georgia died October 10, 2006. Mrs. Rhymer was born
September 26, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland the daughter of the late Mrs. Lillian Green Hopkins and William Archie Green. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Kelly.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie T. Rhymer; daughter, Odella Wicker; sons, Purnell, Andre Kelly; Odell, Ojay Wicker; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of additional brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, very dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and three generations of loving cousins, nieces, nephews and many devoted friends and other relatives.

Mabel Lucille Irwin
Mabel Lucille Irwin, age 81, of East Point, Georgia died October 12, 2006. Mrs. Irwin was born
November 2, 1924 in Barrow County, the daughter of the late Rosa Lillian Gore and Leonard P. Bell. She was a member of St. Matthew Methodist Church in East Point, and had retired from National Acceptance/Heller Financial, with 15 plus years of service as Assistant Vice President. She was a landscape painter, enjoyed crossword puzzles and was a collector of clowns. She graduated high school from Cartersville High. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raiford Irwin; and a daughter, Diane Zimmerman.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jan Young of Locust Grove, Christy and Greg Greer of Jonesboro, Bill Zimmerman of Hayesville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Joey Zimmerman of Dallas, Lori and Brian Jackson of Douglasville, Keri Young of Augusta, Kim Young of Locust Grove, Ashley Miller, Austin Miller and Alex Miller, all of Jonesboro; three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
